Jesse, as far as I know...
The UFC hasn’t confirmed Leben/Silva for the main card. He fucking better not be getting main card status after his last two outings. Popped for roids, goes to jail, shows up completely untrained and gets choked out in embarrassing fashion… and main card status? Fuck that shit.
It’s time for the UFC to put new and exciting fighters on main cards instead of the tired old has-beens that they know have a recognizability factor. I know it’s about money, but it’s short term thinking. Building up new stars will increase ratings in the long run.

Gray should get the title shot after he avenges TUF loss to Diaz
Come on UFC it’s time. Gray is undefeated since coming off the show and has won decisivley [sans the NC to Emmerson] in every one of his fights. He’s beaten Frankie Edgar who’s a top contender in the division and most recently dominated Roger Huerta [who Florian earned a title shot after beating, but opted to fight and not wait]. Granted he hasn’t finished anyone since his 9 second KO of tomato can Joe Veres, but current number one contender Diego Sanchez hasn’t finished anyone at LW either. People give Gray a lot of crap, but I haven’t been bored by one of his fights since the Rich Clementi debocale. The Jim Miller fight wasn’t all that great either, but he stood up and banged withg him for three rounds. Any way it’s slim pickens at LW and Gray is next in line with a victory in my opinion.

What's next for Diaz?
A popular question being asked is what’s next for Gray Maynard after he beats Nate Diaz? A more realistic question would be what’s next for Nate Diaz after he beats Gray Maynard? I don’t see any way that Gray Maynard can win this fight. Please reply to this post before the fight so that I can re-visit tommorow and say “I told you so!”

I hope he wins...
that way BJ can SMASH his soul and send him packing. I can’t stand this punk, or his brother. He’s trash, and has no KO ability, and his jitz is 2nd rate compared to the top tier of the weight class. Either he gets his face smashed tonight, or when he sees BJ. Either way, I will be happy!

Ill give you one easy example how diaz can lose.
Maynard takes diaz down and control’s him just like guida and stevenson did.
Is that really that hard to imagine??

Indeed: if you want to know why fighters don’t finish more, this is it. Sure he was gassed in the and but he clearly won the first two rounds. Total BS- just cuz he was gassed at the end, don’t penalize the guy for trying to finish.

So Gray beats Nate “straight out of Stockton” Diaz and suddenly he gets BJ? What a joke, he would get murdered!

I guess he is the next logical guy for BJ…just sucks cause he has no shot….I am trying to think of someone else, but BJ has smashed everyone (except Gray).

After this fight, the next logical guy for BJ is at 170 and it’s not GSP. I’d like to see Penn vs. Alves.

But I am saying Hardy has as good as shot at beating GSP as Maynard does BJ
by Jake1977 on Jan 11, 2010 11:27 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
as much as
i think GSP is gonna dominate Hardy, I still think Hardy has a better shot to beat GSP, than Maynard does of beating BJ.

Honestly...
I’d say Gray has a better shot than anyone else at LW (albeit he still has no chance). You look at the last 2 guys BJ lost to GSP and Hughes and it was because the guys were stronger than him and high level wrestlers though those were at WW not LW. Gray is one of the bigger LWs and has a wrestling pedigree as opposed to Frankie can wrestle but should be fighting at 145. I dunno I think Penn should start fighting guys at WW Anderson Silva style once he destroys Gray and essentially will have cleared out the division.

He’s probably the best choice. But do you really seem him able to take BJ down, he seems very (over)confident in his hands. If he tries that wannabe Roy Jones Jr/Silva head bobbing shit with BJ he’s going to get his head taken off (and I look forward to seeing that)

No I agree
BJ can’t be taken down these days and it would be no exception with Gray and he would tee on his face for however long the ref let it go on, I’m just saying I think Gray is the strongest wrestler at LW in the UFC and that’s BJ’s weakest area compared to his BJJ and stand-up so he’d be the biggest threat albeit not really a threat at all.

I agree that Gray is probably close to the best wrestler in the strictest terms, but it doesn’t amount for much if you can’t take him down, and Gray isn’t the best at getting people down, just holding them there.
I say Sean Sherk or Guida have the best take downs, Sherk has never even attempted his, normally explosive, double leg on BJ so we never got to see how he fared in that department.
They should really make Frankie and Gray fight again. I think Frankie’s hands have improved and Gray will stand with him and lose.

That is what I was thinking....
Put Gray Maynard against Sherk or Guida before even considering him for a title shot…

BJ Has the reach
and is bigger than Gray- I honestly don’t want to see him fight again after this borefest. Gray’s only shot is a punchers chance and BJ has a great chin and jab to keep Gray away. I don’t see myself buying a BJ PPV against the current slew of lightweights.

I would
If only too see Gray get the same treatment Diego got.

matt hughes beat bj penn because he's stronger and a high level wrestler??
yeah fucking right. bj dislocated his rib while taking the back of hughes. he was never a part of that fight and would not be able to take bj down if he tried 100 times. thats not cardio, thats an injury- most guys wouldnt have even come out for the third round. hughes doesn’t have shit on penn.

As GSP would say "I am not impressed by your performance"
I really do not know what to say about this one…… They both stood in front of each other with Gray throwing wild punches and Diaz peppering Gray with little punches. I think Diaz was a little more aggressive but somehow the split decision went to Gray. Neither fighter was impressive. Gray wins by split decision………Whatever happened to aggression, where was the I am going out there and push the fight and get a solid win. At least Diaz pushed forward a little while Gray just stood there and threw wild counter punches with no move to win or finish the fight. Blah

Agree. Blah.
What does Gray Maynard do that BJ should be worried about? Waste of time for BJ.

Takedown you win the round
Why do that when the judges are just going to give the round to whoever gets the takedown. Just go for takedowns because this is the UTC: Ultimate Takedown Championship, according to the judges anyway.

Dunham impresses
I think of all the matches I was most intrigued by the Efrain vs Dunham- I do not think anyone expected Dunham to win that fight. Not only did he display the ability to bounce back from solid power shots, he made perfect adjustments that enabled him to dominate the fight. I think this guy has a lot of potential and I am looking forward to watching him fight again. He went out there took risks and got after his opponent, something that seemed to be missing from the main event. Sometimes these newer fighters put on great shows because they are determined and aggressive while some of the more established(not mentioning any names) just want to ensure they keep their record padded for that potential title shot. We then end up with a subpar fighter who decisions his way to a title shot only to get blasted because he has not experienced that adversity needed to be able to take calculated risks and bring the fight to his opponent instead of being happy that he got by with a decision because his opponent didnt bring the fight to him. This is a sport about fighting and winning, aggresion is supposed to be one of the main determining factors in a fight. Honestly lets get fighters in there who fight for the finish not for the points. A lot of people will say that is just being a smart fighter but honestly just say he was being smart and take out the word fighter. Dunham was a smart fighter, recovered from the hard shots made the adjustments and kept moving forward keeping his opponent guessing, staying aggresive . All someone else (not going to mention any name) did was prove that his striking was sloppy and mostly ineffective. Lets get some fighters to challenge for the belt who are willing to go after it. Diego Sanchez did, he is slightly crazy and he still got his ass whooped, but he went after it with no quit in him, that is the style I respect. Ok I have rambled on to long, but cmon fighters lets fight. Of course as a soldier I end this with a Patton quote-
“There is only one tactical principle which is not subject to change. It is to use the means at hand to inflict the maximum amount of wound, death, and destruction on the enemy in the minimum amount of time.”
