MONDAY MORNING BLACKBELT
Well guys another solid event! I made some really good money on my Kos/nog/grove underdog parlay, it more than covered my Baroni and Tito picks. Overall I was very satisfied with UFC106, and here's my recap and thoughts:
The prelims being shown for free on spike is great. Even when they replay them as a filler fight on the ppv, it makes a great time to take a leak, walk the dog or grab a drink. I think we had a coming out of sorts and a retirement of sorts on sat. Kendall Grove looked amazing while Marcus Davis seems to be losing his skillset due to age right in front of our eyes!! I'm going to address the Volkman/Thiago fight here too (since it's where it was supposed to be, great back and forth battle. I don't understand the boos in the first round, it was a great round and there was a lot going on!
Well as you know I picked Baroni, but at the same time said he has to win in the first 90 seconds or he'll gas... I think I gave him too much credit! I was however impressed with how many uppercuts Amir took, and seemed unfazed by, it was amazing. Nog did exactly as I thought he would, and so did Kos. By the end of that fight, I had forgotten about the drama!
I kept it all short and sweet up until now so I can really focus on Tito Ortiz, what a fucking self absorbed douche bag. I was a big Tito fan and was really rooting for him to win this fight, but after his post fight antics... let me start from the beginning. I gave the first 2 rounds to Tito (although rd 2 was very close). While watching Forrest win the fight in the 3rd, I was asking my wife the whole time "is Tito gonna take the loss like a real man or make 101 excuses." Now let me say this, I personally had the 3rd a 10-8 round and scored the fight 28-28, but have no problem with Forrest winning (but 30-27 is just plain ridiculous). The comes the post fight interviews. Mr. "I', 100%, my back feels great etc etc" all of a sudden has compressed/bulging disks (but can't remember if it's c6 or 7) and a "broken face." Hey Tito (I hope you're reading) you don't have a broken orbital bone asshole, and if you do, produce x-rays and a Dr. that allowed you to fight! ANYONE who has ever competed knows that you always have bumps and bruises, you either man up and fight on or pull out. Tito is the master at hyping a fight, and he had me believing he was 100% and his back felt great, then he smacked me in the face. You lost, who cares, ring rust, 18 month layoff, there are your "excuses" but the back? You thank the Dr. who performed the surgery but say your back is still bad. FUCK YOU MAN!!!
If I were Dana or the Fertita's, I would love the fact that Tito sells... but does he? The arena looked empty and the people there were uneducated fans all in their affliction shirts. I tuned into the boxing match(Ward/Kessler) which was held in the mecca of poverty (oakland), and everyone was dressed "to the 9's." Point is, mma (UFC) needs to class things up, and they can start by cutting Tito Ortiz from his contract today! Let him go try and get another 7 figure contract in another company. I'm sure you'd all be happy with Tito/Babalu or seeing this over rated douche get KO'd by an unrated Sokuju... or better yet, give Moussassi a "big name" to knock out. My point is, there is no way you can pay this guy 7 figures to fight cans, and he will get beat by any B level UFC fighter. Save your money and let another company try to pay him... hopefully they wouldn't either and we could be done with "I am a legend" Tito Ortiz!
sorry for the rant, this post was very heartfelt! Have a great day guys!

Nice write up, Kevin. My thoughts...
Agreed 100% about Tito. His time is over. Bask in the fact that you made some good money, will probably get in the UFC HOF and you still have your health. Tito is irrelevant in the LHW division and should never have gotten main event status.
Cheick Kongo Award goes to Marcus Davis. Try to stand with a guy much taller than you, with a reach advantage and 10 years your junior? Really? Did your camp skip over the Wolff highlights? Wow. Kudos to Ben for the highlight KO BUT talk to me when you KO someone who you don’t tower over…
Lil Nog. Saw that coming. Not a surprise.
The AJ/Kos fight was a comedy of errors.

agree OJR
Davis is brutal. Should have tried wrestling with Ben. Now thanks to Davis, Ben thinks he’s a contender.

It's time for the debut edition of:
JJ’s Weekly Blunt n’ Coffee Limericks™
I’ll get around to doing all you peeps eventually.
Ode to Kev
In debates I engage him
I love to enrage him
But he’s really quite smart and well-mannered
It’s too bad he quit drinking
because I’ve been thinking
Be fun to see what he’d post hammered!

great ode
I’ve actually been smoking a little weed on saturdays. Drinking isn’t an option, and if I were, I wouldn’t be posting. Me drinking almost always included a lot of coke and whores, would have no time to post! I’m a lot better off now, healthy, happy and sane… well happy and healthy!

Long live Conan.
He would totally be the first Cimmerian HW champ in UFC history.

Run him out of town
Tito doesn’t deserve the money he is making. Pay that money to someone in the top 15. The two things he claims to be best at (wrestling and cardio) were weak. I’m not sure he is a big draw either, keep him off the main card.

He’s a draw, no doubt about that!

I’ve read a lot of silly comments on here since the fights. I don’t have a lot of free time today, so I will simply say this:
If you had Tito winning that fight or had it scored a draw, you are clinically retarded not being in any way objective. Forrest landed what appeared to be 100 unanswered strikes in the final round. That round should not be scored the same way as a hard fought, relatively even round where one fighter had the upper hand would be.

10-8
is about as bad a score you can get. what would you have scored that round? Since I’m “clinically retarded” for giving Tito the first 2 rounds, how did you score them? I’m 100% objective, basically I didn’t have Tito winning and I had a decent sized stright bet and a parlay with Tito in it, so if anything I’d want him to win, but didn’t think he did. Objectivity is different from one person to another, but my draw scenario, IMHO is very realistic!

Tito didn't win the first two rounds.
Only Tito fans (a declining population, thank god) could score this fight a draw. Tito had one effective TD where he actually inflicted some damage. This fight has been broken down ad nauseum here and elsewhere, and I’m not going to waste my time on the obvious.
Tito lost the fight, clear as day. He won one round (barely), and lost the third in spectacular fashion. You don’t have to drop your opponent to get a 10-8 score. Total domination is also grounds for 10-8, and that was domination. If Forrest had any pop in his fists, Tito would have been killed.

and???
I scored it 10-8, so who said there had to be a knock down? I also said there is NO WAY Tito won the fight! we r in semi agreement here JJ, I gave tito 1 and 2, you just gave him 2. it doesn’t matter, but last I checked, the site is here to debate this. If it’s not, why are we always doing so!?

Dude I’m not a TIto’s fan and I saw it as a draw also at first . Thanks for your insult. When I watched fightMetric the next day I saw I was wrong for the 1st round, but it was very close. 28-28 was not retarded.

"objectivity"
“is different from one person to another.” heheheh.
No, Kev, that’s what we call “subjectivity”. Now I understand how you keep calling yourself “objective” even while explaining your biases.

one more thing
I agree with Kos’s post fight statements. I know we can’t have GSP inactive, but Hardy doesn’t “deserve” a shot… but no one does!
by kevjack115 on Nov 23, 2009 12:06 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
Hardy deserves it for winning the number one contender fight
DW said Hardy vs. Swick was a number one contenders fight. He can’t flake out of this one the way he did to Hendo. To be honest, no one at WW deserves to fight GSP.

you're right
But that doesn’t mean he deserves it! He gets it, but did he really earn it?

Overall it was a good event
I think Baroni/Amir was the most entertaining and should have got Fight of the Night and Grove should have got Submission of the Night.
I’d have to go back and watch the fight again, but IMO Tito, this time, was just reacting to the crowd booing. Coming up with excuses still wasn’t justified when he said he was 100% prior, but I can see how he may have been frustrated and started ranting with the crowd booing, kind of like Brock might have felt when he beat Mir.

thats exactly why
Which made him seem like even a bigger baby! And the “broken face” comment was laughable!

Kev, I understand your disappointment about Tito but IMO you take this too far. He wasn’t complaining about his back. A “C” stand for cervical, so basically he was complaining about his neck and a fractured skull (which was hillarious). Say what you want, but the thing his that he could’ve won the fight against a top 10 guy. He had rust and it showed. It would be better to wait for a 2nd fights before passing any judgements on him. Though I got to agree his post fight commentary was lame. He should learn to shut up sometimes, but it’s Jacob Ortis we’re talking about. Don’t count on it. He always were and will be like that. We will have to accept it and keep laughing.

Agreed. Also, Dent looks like a fat ass...he looks like he can easily drop down.
by OJR on Nov 23, 2009 12:41 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Yeah, Dent needs to lose the muffin-top and hit thye WEC.
I’m sure we’d see a lot of UFC LWs move down to 145 if it wasn’t for a guaranteed drop in pay and exposure. To the casual bumblecunt, being able to say you’re a “UFC fighter” is everything. People look at the WEC as minor league (although their 155 division is).

broken face comment was probably the stupidest thing
I’ve heard Tito say. And that’s saying a lot.

stupidest thing Tito has said?
C’mon, Jay, your memory can’t really be that short. Why, it was only last week that he said, “It’s like comparing checkers to chest!” Unless he was intentionally analogizing board games to boobs, that alone has to top this. And that wasn’t even the stupidest thing he said last week. “I’m willing to die for my cause…are you?” This guy is like a cross between Mike Tyson and George W Bush. Letterman should do a segment on Tito now that Bush is gone. “Great Moments in MMA Eloquence”

sigh
Tito makes it sound like he crawled out of a bunker in Afghanistan and lived off cactus shards and vulture poop until he fought his way into a U.S. embassy. You battled Griffin for fifteen minutes and couldn’t get the job done. It’s okay, fighters lose. God dammit take it like a man and move on to the next challenge.
It is not enough to succeed. Others must fail.
