YUP!!
Did he say he had a fractured skull? Don’t fighters havta pass some sort of medical to get licenced?
Pretty funny vid.
I didn’t think it was that easy to defend a Tito take down but I guess I was wrong.
pwilson
A side note - George Sotiropoulos
Why is no one mentioning this fighter?
I have been following him since hos time on TUF (That he should have won…). His BJJ is amazing, and his striking looks better every fight. There is no hype around him but I think he has a comparable BJJ level to Maia. He has a 2nd Rd DQ loss to Aioki, meaning, he was not submitted in a round a a half by a top ten LW. I dont get why there is not more hype around this guy. He has the ability to be a top contender and can possibly have a good chance to get the belt. I think he needs a good flash KO to get him higher in the Hype ranks (A la Duffee).
Thoughts?
I hit the reply button and tapped in the message but it didn’t add the reply to this… Grrrr. Have copied and pasted in the hope someone will delete the other message below…
I agree and I think that fight is going to be the start point for seeing his reputation build. The reason I think he’s not being mentioned much though is he’s got no marketing angle, and although that doesn’t stop us talking about it if we’re being bombarded with news about other fighters it makes him easier to overlook.
That’s my thought on it anyway!

I've been a fan of George since TUF
He was too small for that series as was proven by the defeat to Tommy, but I agree that he’s very talented and him and Ben are set to have the best careers following that series, Danzig is overrated and can’t beat top competition. George’s problem is that he was injured for a while and nobody heard a peep out of him after the TUF finale until he walked through Roop. I wouldn’t say that his BJJ is at Maia’s level (Demian is a mutiple time ADCC champion) but it is very slick and has transitioned very well to MMA, his postioning especially is very good. If he can improve his striking then he’ll be a force to be reckoned with at LW. A big win in Australia would do wonders for his career.
The problem with Maia is that he’s one dimensional… go for a half hearted take down, wait for sprawl, pull guard, secure against punching, working for submission. His BJJ might be high level but I don’t think the rest of his skills are. Once people realise what he’s doing and expose him he’ll be forced to up his game. I find Sotiropoulos much more interesting to watch on the ground (probably due to his 10th Planet style) and can handle himself elsewhere. Look forward to seeing him in action again soon. Maybe a good fight for Hazelett?
Maia is the man
The Sonnen fight proved that grappling wise Maia is on another level to anyone else in the UFC, Sonnen may be boring but he’s a superb wrestler and as soon as Maia clinched with him he sweeped him and dropped him on his head before going straight into mount. There was nothing half hearted about that takedown. That sort of skillset can’t be exposed, it’s his striking where the problem lies.
George is at 155, so he won’t ever face Dustin.
