WEC 44 medical suspensions and injuries for ‘Brown vs. Aldo'

The Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) recently issued its list of medical suspensions for WEC 44: "Brown vs. Aldo", which took place on Wednesday, Nov. 18, from "The Pearl" at the Palms Casino resort in Las Vegas.

Only seven of the 20 athletes who competed on the card have been sidelined by the commission doctors, including former WEC featherweight champion Mike Brown, who lost his 145-pound title to Jose Aldo.

"Junior" was not listed on the injury report, as he avoided any significant damage in his title fight that lasted just over six minutes.

Cub Swanson, Diego Nunes, and Antonio Banuelos all landed lengthier suspensions, lasting upwards of six months, unless a doctor clears them at an earlier time.

Here is the list of WEC 44 injuries and their medical instructions.

• Mike Brown: Suspended until Jan. 3 with no contact until Dec. 19 due to lacerations above each eye.
• Rob McCullough: Suspended until Jan. 3 with no contact until Dec. 19 due to left hand contusion and cut on right eye.
• Diego Nunes: Suspended until May 18 with no contact due to orbital fracture on right eye or must be cleared by oral surgeon.
• Cub Swanson: Suspended until May 18 with no contact due to broken left hand or must be cleared by an orthopedic doctor.
• Antonio Banuelos: Suspended until May 18 with no contact due to a fractured nose or must be cleared by an ENT doctor.
• Karen Darabedyan: Suspended until Dec. 19 due to a right cheek laceration.
• Will Kerr: suspended until Dec. 19 due to a right cheek laceration.

Just a quick reminder: Fighters often return to action much quicker once doctors give them the green light. The lengthy suspensions are just a precaution in most cases.
