WEC 46 main card set for Jan. 10 event in Sacramento
Just one day after "WEC 44: Brown vs. Aldo," the promotion today rounded out the televised main card for WEC 46 with two new match ups -- Mackens Semerzier vs. Deividas Taurosevicius and Charlie Valencia vs. Akitoshi Tamura -- via its official Web site.
The featherweight fight between Semerzier and Taurosevicius features a young fighter who just defeated one of the top featherweights in the world up against an experienced IFL veteran.
Semerzier is coming off an enormous upset victory over Brazilian Wagnney Fabian at WEC 43, continuing his undefeated record. This fight will mark his second appearance in the WEC.
Taurosevicius last fought at WEC 43, defeating Javier Vasquez via split decision and, in the process, rebounding from a decision loss suffered to Ryan Schultz at IFL Connecticut in 2008. This will be the experienced featherweight’s second fight in the WEC.
The bantamweight match up features two veterans of the sport in Valencia and Tamura.
Valencia last competed at WEC 43, defeating Coty Wheeler via unanimous decision. The victory marked his second in a row -- he defeated Seth Dikun nine months prior at WEC 38. This will be Valencia’s eighth fight with the promotion.
Standing opposite Valencia will be Shooto veteran Akitoshi Tamura. Tamura is coming off a decision victory over former top contender Manny Tapia at WEC 40. Prior to that fight, he lost to Wagnney Fabiano at WEC 37. This will be "Ironman’s" second fight in the promotion.
WEC 46 is set for ARCO Arena in Sacramento, California on Jan. 10 of 2010.
The main event is a title unification bout between interim lightweight champion Ben Henderson and defending champion Jamie Varner. Also featured is a featherweight bout between the ever-popular Urijah Faber and jiu-jitsu wizard Raphael Assuncao.

Urijah
“I want Urijah is the next Aldo.” Can you help us translate that?
Please note that Urijah being the next Aldo is kind of tough as Urijah has already defended the title many times, is almost ten years older and has been in the game much longer. Nice work.
i want to know why everbody at featherweight is avoiding josh "the fluke" grispi?
the kid is something like 12 or 13-1. could it be his incredible height advantage. i don’t see any fights for him coming up and i don’t know of any injuries.
yes i am obsessive, obnoxious, in your face and all about covering the spread. those are my good qualities.
