Karo Parisyan backs out of UFC 106; Gets a lifetime ban from the promotion

karo parisyan

The hits just keep on coming.

Karo Parisyan, who was slated to welcome fellow welterweight Dustin Hazelett back into the mix at UFC 106 this weekend (Nov. 21), is the latest UFC fighter to be pulled from the card.

And this time, it might be a permanent loss.

As UFC president Dana White reported on his Twitter page:

"Karo Parisyan has fucked over the UFC, the fans and his opponent again!!! He will not be fighting saturday or ever again in the UFC!!"

Then, a few minutes later, White added:

"Pulled out of the fight the day before weigh ins again with a laundry list of excuses!!! Let the press ask karo why! Let him explain."

This is just the latest blow to the embattled Parisyan (18-5, with 1 NC), who hasn’t fought since a January win over Dong Hyun Kim at UFC 94 was overturned after "The Heat" tested positive for multiple prescription-strength painkillers in post-fight drug testing, including hydrocodone, hydromorphone and oxymorphone.

This is not the first time Parisyan has pulled out of a fight at the last minute.

He was scheduled to fight Yoshiyuki Yoshida at UFC 88: "Breakthrough" in September 2008, but backed out of the fight right before weigh-ins, citing a recurring back and hamstring injury.

While a replacement opponent for Hazelett has yet to be named, if one can even be found on such short notice, White followed up his Twitter post with a third message:

"Dustin will be paid his full purse to show and win. Its not his fault."

Nice payday for Haze for doing nothing, but trust me, he’d rather be fighting!

Unbelievable

I am…or should I say was…a huge Karo fan and I actually felt bad for his anxiety disorder and panic attacks and I was really looking forward to him making a come back. Even though he’s pulled this stunt before I didn’t think for a second that he’d pull it again. Obviously he needs some serious professional help to over this disorder but with the commission banning a lot of the medication this guy probably needs doesn’t help him out cause I’m sure he’s usually on some type of meds but probably had to give them up leading up to the fight to get them out of his system. I hope he gets the help he needs and comes back to fight somewhere else.

Lifetime is a long time and I’ve heard that before form Dana…Karo’s only 25-26 years old and has time to recover but I doubt he’s smart enough to. So long bro…Karo/Shields in SF maybe?

Bro

Karo prolly had some more recurring injuries, bro. Prolly had to take more painkillers and anti anxiety drugs, bro. Do you know what I mean, bro, like do you know who the Heat is, bro?

What a clown.

No loss there

Karo was never going to be anything more than a gatekeeper anyway. Glad Dana is going to treat McLovin right and pay him his full purse. I want to see McLovin vs Condit at 108!!!! Make it happen Joe Silva.

Good riddance

Karo is a rotten person and boring to watch, he should have been sacked numerous times before this. I honestly couldn’t care less if he left the sport altogether. Hopefully McLovin can get a good opponent ASAP, maybe feed him Baroni so he gets a quick and impressive win and it would actually make Baroni relevant.

Enough

Enough is enough already. See ya in SF. I like Dana for very few reasons, but the fact that he will pay Dustin a winners share is awsome. It pays to be the good guy sometimes.

Dana said he's banned for life.

That means he’s either coaching the next season of TUF or main-eventing a PPV in the next year.

I agree the economy is bad, so you cut things out… not MMA!! I make a pot of coffee every morning now, and estimate we save 6k+ a year not buying it out… thats a lot! If you cut ufc events out you only save 10% of that, not worth it!

That’s kinda my problem. I gotta google how that keeps happening. Hell yeah they cost more. Got a 12 month old and 6 week old. I’m not working right now obviously so arguing over ppv’s is not the business. I’ve ordered ever single one for the last 4 yrs until this past summer. The argument is back on January though. Kevin are you serious?

You spend over $15 a day at Starbucks?

by Diceman on Nov 19, 2009 5:13 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

no, I don't

Ive never liked starbucks, but do the research. I went there sat, got my wife a mocha and my son a pumpkin spice something, it was 10 and change. Go google it, the average person that goes to starbucks goes more than once a day (my wife used to a few yrs ago), and spend 10-15 dollars a day. Do the math! It doesn’t seem like much when you r there, but think big picture, it adds up. even if it’s 5 dollars a day, that 35 a week which is 1800 a year!

by kevjack115 on Nov 19, 2009 5:18 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

No doubt

I never buy that crap! I work in a Sheraton that has a Starbucks on property so I get 75% off as a manager, but I still won’t pay for it. I know people shell out the money for it, I just thought over $15 a day was insane. They’ve got some good stuff and I understand why people like it, but their prices are out of control.

Hmmm

The three main fights are worth it alone and in my opinion anyway much better the Karo fight? I’m very interested in seeing little NOG and Can go at it KOS and rumble is almost a gauranteed KO fast paced slug fest and the last Tito and forrest fight was great?

Exactly paolo, but in all truth this is a solid card with 3 excellent fights and the Davis/Saunders is a good scrap as well. I’m still a little bitter there is no HW title on the line is all.

Bring in Fitch

Bring in Fitch to take on Dustin…

by SDA on Nov 19, 2009 4:18 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

That would be great but they will probably just promote Davis/Saunders to the main card and scrap the Hazlett fight altogether since Dana said he was already going to give him a win bonus.

by BNF on Nov 19, 2009 4:44 PM EST via mobile up reply actions   0 recs

on 48 hrs notice?

Fitch would have to be crazy to take that fight! So would Hazelett. Training for Karo and training for Fitch are two different monsters.

I’m obviously in the minority here because I was really looking forward to this fight because I love Karo. He’s been one of my favorites since way back when he was fighting GSP and Serra. His judo throws are pure poetry and he gets progressively better as the fight goes on. I for one am VERY sad to see him out of the UFC and hope to see him in Strikeforce soon.

Anybody have an educated guess what his purse would have been for this fight? If he had to pay 32,000 for the liscence and was only gonna make 25,000 to show, I wouldn’t blame him for backing out. Dana has no right to bitch. He shouldn’t promote fighters for a card without checking to see if they’re liscenced in that state. That’s why he’s so pissed, cause if his people were doing their job, they’d have known about this a month ago and had time to resolve it.

by (shonuff) on Nov 20, 2009 1:45 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Hear hear shon...

I like Karo too and you are right…Dana or his peoples should’ve done their job better.

He was getting ($40,000 to show, $40,000 to win) so I understand him to not pay.

by Alpha Male on Nov 20, 2009 2:01 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

HE WAS LISCENSED !

and kizer was only going to make him pay 1/2 of his fine for this fight, and 1/2 for a future fight, which is something they don’t normally do. they (the nsac) bent over backwards for karo and he still screwed them over.

you’re the one bitching about not getting your money’s worth after you flushed 1400 on a freakin 3 hr. show, and then calling pud a jackass as if he’s responsible for your idiocy! You want your money’s worth?? For 1400 you can dig a well that will provide clean water to a whole village in Nepal, build a school in Uganda, or sponsor a weekend glaucoma clinic in India that will give sight to 150 people who can’t support their families because they can’t see their hand in front of their face. I can tell you from experience that that’s getting your money’s worth! If you’ve got 1400 in this economy to flush on a show you could watch on your computer for free, you’ve got nothing in this world to bitch about. Save your self-pity for your therapy group.

There has always been people with less money than others, that doesn’t mean people don’t have the right to spend their money on something they enjoy like a UFC show and feel ripped off because of some fat lazy loser who acts like an arrogant tosser to cover for his own insecurities backed out of a fight again, making this card even more of a disappointment. 3 out of 5

I do have an old clunker that I use primarily to shuttle refugees to their doctors appointments, job interviews, immigration office, etc. And I allow myself the luxury of T-shirts/jeans/and shoes when they’re on sale at Walmart, and the occasional hamburger from the dollar menu. Other than that I live as simply as I can and spend whatever the Lord blesses me with on people who need it more than I do. I love MMA as much as the rest of you. But not more than I love my brothers and sisters. I can’t spend money on frivolities for myself when I could be changing somebody’s life and giving them opportunities that we take for granted.

I’m sorry for being so rude and judgemental, especially with you, ducknow. Its just been hard for me since I came back to the States to swallow all the complaining that my fellow American’s do about silly inconveniences and minor discomforts while they wallow in luxury and turn a deaf ear to the cries of the world around them. My frustration at my own failure to open their eyes just reaches a boiling point once in a while, and then somebody says something and it all just spews out. But I had no right to judge you or speak to you like that. My apologies, Brother. I humbly ask your forgiveness.

My brother is on anxiety meds, and the doctor told him under no circumstances can you just stop taking them. I’m guessing this may be part of the issue with Karo. You can’t just stop taking these types of meds, and I question why the athletic commisions won’t let fighters use them who have a documented and medical need for them.
Anyways, I do think Karo was wrong to wait so long to pull out and has probably known he wasn’t going to fight for sometime now.

dang I wanted to see that fight. Karo has the best throws in the game and wins over Nick Diaz, Fickett and went this distance with GSP. His fight with diego sanchez is still one of greatest ever. Hopefully he will go to strikeforce n fight Nick again.

Man…The fans really get screwed here! I paid a shit load of money (like a lot of other fans) to fly to Vegas to watch this card. Now we get to see on less fight on the main card. These tickets aren’t cheap and this SUCKS! How about some type of refund Dana?

Mr white must be the worst boss in the world.

He backed Karo a lot, if most people bailed on work in the last minute they’d get sacked before they got the chance to do it again, especially if they were doped up. Blame Karo for being a dick head.

Twitter? WTF?

Whether you are pissed at Karo or not, is “tweeting” something like this something the president of the UFC should be doing?

I mean, seriously…….Karo is obviously not playing with a full deck right now and has emotional problems, whether it’s depression or anxiety issues I don’t know……but one person who surely knows is Dana. Why in the world do people still believe Dana “loves his fighters”…..when his main objective in tough situations is to “tweet” for attention? Football and basketball players “tweet” stuff that they shouldn’t be going public with and get fined and/or suspended……..Dana does it and everyone looks passed it like it’s nothing. Why doesn’t the guy just do a proper press release on something like this instead of posting this stuff on a social networking site?….the answer to that is he loves to be the center of attention…..no matter who he damages in the process.

No wonder this clown can’t get a network deal done and is still the laughing stock of every other pro sports orginization.

I would be upset if I were Dana….but this is ridiculous.

You kept making all the stops?

Well people kept ringing the bell !!!!!!

Is there even anyone left in the UFC now who’s able to fight? Fighters dropping out like crazy! I’ve always enjoyed Karo’s fights too so this is horrible news.
