Round one: Volkmann comes out with his "put up your dukes" style. He connects with a left on the chin of Kampmann. They trade a flurry of punches and Volkmann connects with a knee to the face as they break. He lands another straight right, which seems to stun Kampmann, but he responds with a shot that drops Volkmann. Kampmann is cut, but he looks to be finding his rhythm. Volkmann charges in with a big right, but once again Kampmann counters and puts Volkmann on his butt. Kampmann follows him to the canvas and is now working ground and pound inside his guard. Kampmann stands up and drops a punch as he comes back down to meet Volkmann on the canvas. Kampmann drops three BIG punches and Volkmann seems stunned, but not out. Hammer fists now. He gets to his feet while Volkmann is on his knees and he sinks in a choke from the north-south position. It's tight ... Volkmann can't get out and he's forced to tap. Odd standing submission. It's announced as a guillotine choke.

Final result: Martin Kampmann defeats Jacob Volkmann via submission (guillotine choke) in round one

-end-

Cole Miller vs. Dan Lauzon (155-pound limit)

Round one: Miller and Lauzon apparently have some personal beef ... let's see how it shakes out now that they get to hit each other. Miller misses with a kick to start off the action. Lauzon dives in trying to connect, but Miller roughs him up. Lauzon drops Miller with a big left hook out of nowhere. Miller somehow survives and is back up on his feet. He connects with a knee ... he's right back in it! He works the Muay Thai clench while Lauzon boxes his ribs. Miller now connects with a left ... and a right. Both fighters look spent. It's a furious pace thus far. Lauzon manages to get on Miller's back, but Miller reverses and is actually angling for an inverted triangle. Lauzon looks unimpressed. Not for long. Miller tightens it up and rolls Lauzon to his belly. He's trapped! That's it! Lauzon taps from what has to be one of the slickest submissions inside the Octagon in a long time.

Final result: Cole Miller defeats Dan Lauzon via submission (inverted triangle choke) in round one

-end-

My guess would be April or May. UFC 112 or 113.

Headliner is a sleeper

But the undercard looks interesting. Condit vs semetex looks like the one to see.

by Dball on Nov 18, 2009 3:16 PM EST via mobile reply actions

WHAT?!?

You think Rashad/Silva is a sleeper? That’s the craziest thing I’ve heard all day. This one won’t get past the 2nd round…and by that I mean Rashad is going to flaten Silva in Liddell-esque fashion.

"Before you criticize someone, walk a mile in their shoes. That way, you'll be a mile from them, and you'll have their shoes."

by Buster Bluth on Nov 18, 2009 3:21 PM EST up reply actions

After looking at the card, it doesn’t seem that bad, with all the injury and pull outs and all.

Predictions are:
Rashad by TKO (Go Thiago)
JDS by TKO
Daley by TKO (Go Condit)
Tyson by decision (but I like Jim Miller too)
Cole Miller vs Dan Lauzon— I like both guys, going with Cole so he doesn’t lose 2 in a row
Sam Stout vs Joe Lauzon— again, I like both guys, Lauzon takes a sub
Kampmann by submission
Sherk by TKO
Ellenberger by TKO
I dont care bout the last fight, but thats the only one I dont care about.

There are 5 potential Fight of the Nights here. Tyson/Miller, Shad/Silva, Lauzon/Miller, Sout/Lauzon, Daley/Condit. Even Ellenberger and Kampmann’s fights should be barnburners. Not alot of star power, but a great card for the year’s end.

I’m excited.

by Synyster_08 on Nov 18, 2009 3:41 PM EST reply actions

It is okay considering, but not even close to the caliber of last years year end card.

by BNF on Nov 18, 2009 3:51 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

Agreed

This is the worst New Year’s card in the past few years. This will be the first UFC card I will miss in a LONG time. It’s just not a good enough card to spend 50 bucks on after breaking my pockets on Christmas and New Years.

by naturalshadow on Jan 2, 2010 9:57 PM EST up reply actions

Syn here what i think…

Rashad got a chance to get a W b/c Thiago is a flat foot slugger.
JDS will be put on the ground in this fight and it’s kinda hard to expect the result.
Dayley…not a chance. He’ll get submit.
Tyson will be too strong for Jim who will probably gassed b/c of the high pace.
Cole…no doubt.
J-lo by sub? Stout got good jits himself and a better stand up. Stout TKO.
Kampmann?
Sherk should get this, I don’t think tractor will be able to catch him with a sub from is back.
No way Pyle lose this one. He got better ground game than Ellenberger.

Me too!

I really want to see Evans get beat again!! He is way to Cocky and the crap that went on with him and Rampage on TUF was just childish and in my opinion, not entertaining at all.

Need to take it back

I said on an earlier thread that both Miller and Stout needed to look good or I think they should be cut. I shouldn’t have said that. Both guys were great and showed heart and Stout has improved so I stand corrected. Great night of fights. Just can’t understand the whiners who complain when the cards change. UFC usually does a great job with substitutions.

by sudnvictory on Jan 2, 2010 11:30 PM EST reply actions

there is too much whining in general

about this “strikeforce sucks compared to UFC” all of that stuff…guys…listen…if you want this sport to grow, be happy with Strikeforce, WEC, UFC ANY that can get more fans, get more events on TV…The ONLY complaints should be the FIFTY DOLLARS for a freaking card of a few fighters when you have hdnet/spike prelims ufc/strikeforce on showtime to watch in a cheaper fashion.

as for changing fighters, there are a ton of fighters that need fights, I dont see how that is a problem with anyone but a fan of said fighter.
