UFC 105 bonuses and awards for 'Couture vs Vera' in Manchester

UFC 105: "Couture vs. Vera" from the Manchester Evening News (MEN) Arena in Manchester, England, has officially wrapped ... regardless of where you are.

The event aired via tape delay on Spike TV at 8 p.m. ET in the United States, which was about an eight-hour lag time from the start of the first live under card bout. That means it's long overdue to pass along the select fighters who went above and beyond in their respective fights to earn a little extra grease for their efforts inside the Octagon this evening.

As usual, the promotion dished out its standard post-fight monetary bonuses to four out of the 22 fighters on the card ... to the tune of $40,000 each.

In addition to their base salaries, the UFC awarded middleweights Michael Bisping and Denis Kang "Fight of the Night" for their hard hitting, back-and-forth battle that was short on rounds but long on excitement. Bisping weathered an early scare in the opening frame, storming back from a series of blows that had him on "Queer Street" to register a convincing second round technical knockout finish over the Pride FC veteran.

He's more than likely more satisfied with his performance, coming off an "embarrassing" knockout loss to Dan Henderson earlier this year, than the extra scratch.

But it sure won't hurt.

Star-divide

His fellow countryman, Terry Etim, also added to his bounty with a submission win over Shannon Gugerty. It was the only tapout of the night; nonetheless, he deserved a something-something for notching his fourth straight win inside the eight-walled cage in impressive fashion.

And last, but certainly not least, German-bred fighter Denis Siver uncorked yet another awesome spinning back kick to set up his brutal finish of Paul Kelly. In fact, Kelly remianed down for several minutes after the referee stopped the match and required assistance to exit the Octagon.

Here are the special fight bonuses for UFC 105:

  • Fight of the Night — Michael Bisping vs. Denis Kang
  • Knockout of the Night — Denis Siver
  • Submission of the Night — Terry Etim

Again, each fighter received $40,000 extra for their performances in addition to their respective base salaries, which will more than likely not be revealed because the event took place overseas.

Yup...

Definately fight of the night honors!! They had to give it the UK poster boy tho because he is “back on track”…I thought Winner or Gustafsson should have got KOTN Siver didnt even KO kelly

That was the ref’s fault, Kelly was clearly done but the bloody idiot known as Dan Miragliotta let the fight continue when Kelly was lying on the ground holding his ribs in agony, I called it as soon as I saw the Loiseau style spinning back kick and I was in the nosebleeds (high up but had a good view of the octagon as I was on the side and didn’t have the screens blocking my view) so how that moron didn’t notice that Kelly couldn’t continue I’ll never know. Winner and Gustafsson were unlucky to miss out on the award though.

FOTN

Personally i fould Wilks vs Brown to be the most entertaining. They need to get rid of Roli D. too. Or open a 125 lb division for him.

roli is pretty damn big for a light weight man and he couldnt even cut down to 145

Best fights of the night

Wilks-Brown was a very good fight, it was back and forth and had a great finish, I thought Wilks had that kimura then Brown turned it around to finish with ground and pound. Very entertaining on the feet and the ground.

Bisping-Kang was a great comeback, the whole crowd went wild when Kang grabbed defeat at the jaws of victory yet again, while I was slumped in my seat lucking like a tit for cheering when Kang knocked down Bisping in the first. Even my dad was cheering for Bisping.

Hardy-Swick was a good, tactical fight and the best performance of Hardy’s career by far, at one point it looked like he had Swick done when he had him robbled. The crowd went wild for Hardy, then immediately started cheering for GSP when we saw him, I hope that fight happens in Nottingham the crowd will be manic.

Arrogant Brits!!

You guys win a card against shitty opponents and now you glout the only one Ill give you is Hardy who is gonna get his ass whooped by GSP I was just recently saying when is GSP gonna finish a fight and now he will!!

by N.Mamone on Nov 14, 2009 11:21 PM EST reply actions

Ummm...

Are you the same guys who were saying that Swick was gonna hand Hardy his own ass too? I know GSP is different but when you say “Arrogant Brits” are you meaning “Sore loser” Americans? You rarely see anyone on these boards giving fighters from the UK any credit at all.

Now criticize Pearson or Etim, I’ve yet to see them do anything other than impress in their fights or with their attitude…

Brits got screwed

Our hooligan friends across the pond really got a crappy main event that I’m glad was not ppv!

Arrogant brits

Firstly its gloat not glout.
Secondly you are the type of prick that would have been saying Swick and Kang would destroy Hardy and Bisping. Now it didnt happen there “shitty” opponents. Us arrogant ? You lot are the most self centred arseholes on the planet, Always an excuse for losing, like the last TUF when your boys got there arses handed to them by us Brits !!!

Brits vs USA is pointless

Let the argument cease. If you took the top the US fighters in each weight class and had them fight the top 3 British fighters in each weight class, the Brits would be LUCKY to get one win. Their only hope would be Hardy over Fitch but Fitch would take him down ad nauseum.

How was I arrogant?

What a daft thing to say, all I’ve done was enjoy myself at my first live MMA event, cheer on the talented British fighters that I like and boo the overrated ones. Hardy was superb and beat a top WW, very few people think he has a chance against GSP but it should be a more competetive fight than GSP-Swick/Kampmann would have been. Bisping shut me up, though again looked suspect at the start, easily getting counterpunched by Kang and almost getting KO’d, then spending the rest of the round on his back, however he dug deep and had more heart on the night than Kang, brutally pounding Kang en route to a stoppage win.

The TUF winners both did well, Pearson wasn’t given a hope by anyone and ended up beating a bigger and more experienced LW in his UFC debut, superb performance even if it was an anticlimatic ending. Wilks faced a tough WW in Brown and matched him until the flying knee, but did well to survive that and even almost caught Brown in a kimura before getting reversed and pounded en route to a stoppage defeat. With improved boxing he’ll be a good WW and Brown was a step too far at this stage.

Nick got a big win over a top prospect in Riddle, showing improved cardio and BJJ to get off his back and on top position. Winner also looked quality smashing Delgado while Hathaway showed that he could be a tough WW to beat as unlike most British fighters he has excellent wrestling, he took Taylor down with ease and controlled him on the ground throughout. Etim also looked good against Gugerty, outclassing him on the feet and the ground before sinking in a sick guillotine and keeping it on for a long time. Both him and Pearson deserve to face top 20 LWs from now on, shame that Neer got cut as he’d be a good opponent for both of them.

As for Kelly and Taylor they both proved that they’re not good enough for the UFC, as Taylor has no grappling skills and Kelly fought like a madman before getting stopped by a brutal spinning back kick, he was hurt very badly by that.

The majority of the British fighters performed well over solid opposition and entertained me, so there is no reason to bash them other than pure racism against this country and our athletes.

GSP dominates

Did anyone see what GSP did to a world class striker at UFC 100? Total domination of Alves….more of the same when he fights Hardy.

by From Hell on Nov 15, 2009 12:03 AM EST reply actions

I don’t think it will last as long as the beadowns of Alves and Penn.

Anyone who is not watching Pacquiao / Cotto right now….it’s a war!!!!!!!

Bisping and Kang would have been my fight of the night only if Kang won.
