My 105 picks

I got Swick.. Riley.. Kang.. Wilks.. Vera/Couture to me is a toss up. Vera has all the tools to defeat Randy Couture.. I want to see how Randy’s perfoms again fighting at 205.

have to say from reading these boards for the last lot of weeks bisping wasnt supposed to win, pearson wasn’t supposed to win & winner wasnt supposed to win! i hope our american friends are taking note

COME ON HARDY!!!

yes pearson looked good tho do you not think he looked small in comparison to riley? think he may be better suited to 145

Wow. Can’t believe Micheal Bispig won by Ko. Great way to turn things around.

by LaBeast on Nov 14, 2009 4:33 PM EST reply actions

taking him down to the ground was genious won him the fight

by ElStIkO on Nov 14, 2009 4:38 PM EST up reply actions

Bisping looked

surprisingly good off his back against Kang. He completely neutralized Kang’s top game. I’ve never been a Bisping fan, but also never understood all the hate for him on here. He’s not TOP 3, but he’s never been a slouch either.

by (shonuff) on Nov 14, 2009 6:03 PM EST up reply actions

i thought bisping’s fight was fixed…kang completely dominated round 1 and then didn’t show up for round 2, wtf?!?

by Shadyone33 on Nov 14, 2009 5:05 PM EST reply actions

No way Hardy should be put in with GSP.

There’d be a serious beating handed out by GSP.

by Phonk on Nov 14, 2009 5:07 PM EST reply actions

GSP by Murder. I hope he uses the money from his next fight to get a new SUIT!

by Shadyone33 on Nov 14, 2009 5:11 PM EST up reply actions

I pick GSP

I think GSP will be able to take down Hardy at will, from there he will Just GNP. However Hardy could catch him with a bomb somewhere in the fight. I think he could have finished Swich had he not gone for the takedowns. Lol the chicken dance…

by spyder007 on Nov 14, 2009 6:04 PM EST up reply actions

Doesn't matter to me

They are my two favorite WW fighters. I prefer GSP obviously, but if he has to lose to someone I would want it to be Hardy.

by jay. on Nov 14, 2009 6:50 PM EST up reply actions

GSP by any way he wants. Hardy looked great, Swick was hurt every time Hardy connected and his clinchwork was much improved, though against GSP he’s going to get picked apart standing and destroyed on the ground.

by David W-S on Nov 14, 2009 7:45 PM EST up reply actions

was impressed by not only Hardy’s striking but also he proved tonite he could take a punch. Also once he got Swick down he looked menacing with gnp…. vicious elbows
as Matt Serra proved anything can happen in the octagon so lets not discount Hardy altogether

by paolo78 on Nov 14, 2009 8:03 PM EST up reply actions

Hardy would have

looked much more impressive if he’d followed his stunners with KOs instead of repeatedly trying to take Swick down. Hardy showed great talent, but retarded gameplanning. I gave him both the “Upset of the Night” award and “Dumbass of the Night” award.

Dude, be realistic, the haters on this site never die. They’re not gonna be dissuaded by something as silly and insignificant as FACTS!

by (shonuff) on Nov 14, 2009 6:08 PM EST up reply actions

Bisping was very impressive to me

HIs ground defense takedowns, and general fighting intellegence impressed me tonight. But what really won me over was him bringing his son in the octogon for a little sparring after the fight. That kid will be 10 feet tall when he goes to school on Monday and all his friends are like “Dude, we saw you on TV putting your dad in an armbar in the real octogon!” Good Dad, that! I suspect half of these fighters don’t even know their kids’ names.

by (shonuff) on Nov 14, 2009 8:19 PM EST up reply actions

I’m pretty sure Dana is not going to give give Hardy an immediate title shot, but if Swick had one he would since he is 8-1 or 7-1 in the UFC.

by LaBeast on Nov 14, 2009 5:27 PM EST reply actions

If they bring GSP after the fight, the fight will happen. Dana came with GSP in the octogon so he’s definitly behind this.

by -Jee- on Nov 14, 2009 5:41 PM EST up reply actions

yeah, Dana clearly said...

the winner of this fight gets a shot at Dana, and he said it on THIS broadcast. Of course, that’s never stopped him from going back on his word before!

by (shonuff) on Nov 14, 2009 6:10 PM EST up reply actions

“the winner of this fight gets a shot at Dana,” haha. It would probably a closer fight than Hardy/GSP.

by jay. on Nov 14, 2009 6:48 PM EST up reply actions

Word!

Poor GSP and his English. He said, “Dan Ardy devinitely prove dat he’s deserve the title!” Don’t you think he should at least have to fight you first, Georges! George is just sooo generous! Heheh.

by (shonuff) on Nov 14, 2009 8:24 PM EST up reply actions

The UK angle

Dana will want to bank on the first UK guy to get a title shot. I would bet anything the fight goes down in England and the Brits will go CRAZY!!!! I would love to fly over just to party and celebrate with the New Champ

by JRE on Nov 15, 2009 2:43 AM EST up reply actions

better start your party before the fight, cause the only way you’ll see Hardy decision GSP is if you’ve done a buttload of halucinogens.

Dang Hella that sucks. Same thing happened to me in the Kang Bisping fight. During the first round the stream cuts out then when it comes back Kang is on the ground and the fight is over.
After that I found some other site and it was good from then on.

Randy gets another win for holding the other guy for 11 minutes of 15 minutes fight. I just cant belive goddamn judges robbed Vera. i mean WOW

they need to fix their scoring system

forget the Ric Flair moto. Straight up winner takes it.

by ElStIkO on Nov 14, 2009 6:04 PM EST up reply actions

fuhreal doh!!!

Or at least publish their criteria so fighters and fans know what they’re looking for! Couture won the control battle and may have even landed more strikes (in the clinch), but Vera definitely won the damage battle.

by (shonuff) on Nov 14, 2009 7:33 PM EST up reply actions

ya if anything a draw

by ElStIkO on Nov 14, 2009 8:40 PM EST up reply actions

we need more draws!

if justice is to be served. I don’t give a shit if a bunch of drunks want to see a winner. If neither fighter wins or loses the fight (like tonight) then why should the judges have to split hairs to figure out who to give the fight to!!! It sucks for fighters to have losses on their record that they didn’t earn. They should have huge “finishing bonuses” to encourage fighters to finish their fights and not play it safe and intentionally try to get a draw, but if there’s no clear winner, there should be no loser!

by (shonuff) on Nov 14, 2009 8:46 PM EST up reply actions

It was very close

Randy kept the fight in his world and definitely dominated “octogon control” but Vera neutralized Randy’s offense and did more damage. I thought Randy won rd 1 and thought the judges would give 2 and 3 to Vera for the kick (2nd) and the TD (3rd) even though Randy recovered early in the 2nd and hurt Vera with punches elbows. I’m a huge Randy fan, but I was surprised by the decision.

by (shonuff) on Nov 14, 2009 6:16 PM EST up reply actions

As a Couture fan...

I’m happy for Randy’s legacy…but I feel bad for Vera. How many guys have done that well at neutralizing Randy’s clinch and takedowns. As with many of the fights last weekend, I was more impressed with the accomplishments of the underdog/loser than I was with the winner.

by (shonuff) on Nov 14, 2009 6:20 PM EST up reply actions

just watched it again!

After seeing it the second time, I guess I can see a how the judges could maybe give rd 3 to Couture. Not sure I agree. I definitely had him winning rd 3 up until the final minute takedown, which Randy did manage to neutralize and escape. Randy rocked Vera twice in the third round and was bullying him in the clinch with a lot of punches and elbows, much more so than in the earlier rounds. Then Vera got in 1 good body kick, missed 2 more, got stunned with punches, recovered, clinch stalemate, then the TD but no damage. Without the TD, the round would definitely have gone to Randy, so I guess it just comes down to how impressed the judges were/weren’t with that TD. .

by (shonuff) on Nov 14, 2009 7:41 PM EST up reply actions

not sure on Randys plans but crap he better not ever think of facing Belfort again or Chuck Or Tito because by tonights performance my god its over.

by ElStIkO on Nov 14, 2009 5:57 PM EST reply actions

randy did nothing

to deserve a unanimous decision….he hugged and hugged and hugged…he spent 13 of 15 minutes going for a takedown that he never got…cept for like the 7 seconds he had vera down in the 1st round but vera jumped right back up…

so give randy the 1st round..

2nd round vera drops randy with that kick…then gets on top of him…other than that the round was more of the same…randy clinching and doing nothing but having the ref break them up….

3rd round vera easily takes randy down and mounts him…randy spent the entire fight looking for that takedown but couldnt get it, vera gets it easily, and mounts him…how many people have ever mounted randy couture? plus vera landed some great kicks in the round as well

i had the 2nd and 3rd round for vera…

if anything then it should have at least been a split decision…not a freaking UD….

randy was completely terrified of vera’s standup…like…COMPLETELY…terrified…he wanted NO PART of it…and we could see why…he got dropped with a kick…ive never saw randy that scared to trade with someone..

by HellaHectic on Nov 14, 2009 7:41 PM EST reply actions

Randy hasn't

fought someone with legs as dangerous as Vera’s since Maurice Smith back in ‘97, and Mo didn’t have Vera’s Greco credentials. I have to admit, Vera did much better than I expected and I felt bad for him. I also thought the judges would give rds 2 & 3 to Vera (because of the takedown). I don’t agree that it was an easy takedown, and Vera didn’t get mount by passing guard. They were trying to take each other down and Vera landed on top in the mount, which Randy immediately neutralized and eventually escaped. I was initially surprised by the decision, but after watching the fight again, I could see rd 3 going either way.

by (shonuff) on Nov 14, 2009 7:47 PM EST up reply actions

The first round was tough to score but I had Vera winning the second and third rounds, the knockdown in R2 made it easy to score for Vera and the takedown and mount scored more points than Randy’s clinch. Not the most exciting fight of the night but very close, however Vera should have won it.

by David W-S on Nov 14, 2009 7:49 PM EST up reply actions

can't argue.

I think you have to give the first round to Couture cause Vera did absolutely nothing but get sucked into Randy’s world and stay on the defensive.

Second round clearly goes to Vera with the knockdown body kick.

Third round Randy had Vera stunned twice and landed a lot more shots. Vera got a really solid kick in, a TD, and a mount, but Randy was never in trouble and neutralized and escaped. Could go either way. If you score TD’s high, it goes to Vera. But Vera looked more like he was in trouble during those combinations than Randy did when he was on his back. So I can’t hate on the judges either way. I’m gonna watch it a 3rd time before I make a decision on Rd. 3.

However, if you scored fights as a whole, like I’ve always advocated, I think Randy kept Vera in his world but Vera did more damage and had Randy closer to being finished (rd 2).

by (shonuff) on Nov 14, 2009 8:37 PM EST up reply actions

Vera got robbed

come one judges, wtf are you looking at?!? hugging a guy for 10+ minutes w/o getting a single take down shouldn’t give you points, complete bull shit!!
anyways, i thought vera could’ve done more to win the fight, his game plan sucked, he went for the clinch and did nothing to try to avoid it , so frustrating to watch!!

by Mascarita on Nov 14, 2009 8:12 PM EST reply actions

I don’t give a shit about the decision.

Vera didnt do SHIT, hes boring and so goddamn stupid he deserves to be cut.

And Randy is no better, just hug hug hug.

Worst main event EVER im telling you.

I said it all along, this would be the worst fight in UFC history and it was.

by Lester The Pimp on Nov 14, 2009 8:33 PM EST reply actions

I've said all along...

this was a terrible match up. And that was before I read about Vera’s greco-roman credentials. Joe Silva should know better than to ever put two guys in the ring together who have that good of a clinch. Randy’s clinch, pace-setting-mastery, and ring-control clearly neutralize Vera’s standup. And Vera’s clinch defense and long base neutralize Randy’s offense. Obvious stalemate!

by (shonuff) on Nov 14, 2009 8:42 PM EST up reply actions

Randy looked a lot slower

in this fight than he did against Brock and Nog. I think he could still beat the ever-loving crap out of boxers like Rashad and probably Thiago (neither of whom have Vera’s greco-roman skills) but tonight proved he’s gonna have big problems against anyone with good kicks. (Machida/Shogun)

by (shonuff) on Nov 14, 2009 9:14 PM EST reply actions

randy showed..

that he deserve a title shot thats for sure…that truly was terrible to watch….the only 2 exciting moments of that fight was seeing randy get dropped and seeing randy get mounted…not because i hate randy…but because at least vera was actually doin something constructive other than butt hugging…..that was the most horrendous 15 minutes of fighting ive seen in a long time….

it reminded me of kenflo hugging bj against the cage for 4 rounds before getting tapped….that was the worst title fight ive ever seen ever….4 rounds of cage hugging…and this was 3 rounds of cage hugging…thank god it wasnt a title fight..couldnt have endured this for 2 more rounds…

if tito wins next week id really like to see tito vs vera..i think they’ll probably put that fight together since they’ll both be due to fight again at the same time….plus it would be a great fight….and theyd both do a lot of shit talking building it up…plus i think vera got a lot of respect tonight for being close to finishing randy…

yea tito vs vera…do it up

by HellaHectic on Nov 14, 2009 10:13 PM EST up reply actions

wtf was wrong with kang?

Can someone explain to me how someone who is black belt in BJJ can’t do ANY damage to his opponent for 4 minutes when he is on top, but when he is on the receiving end, VIRTUALLY, gets hit with every shot and has no defense what so ever?

I had no idea who kang was and when asked everyone said he’s strong etc… weakest guy on the ground I’ve ever seen, top or bottom.

by ashegam on Nov 14, 2009 9:43 PM EST reply actions

Change of heart

Ok, initially, I thought it was Vera 29-28 winning the 2nd and 3rd rounds. But I have watched the whole fight 3 times now and watched rd 3 five times and pause/replayed each exchange and counted up the damage. Watching each exchange repeatedly from both sides and tallying up the strikes on paper, I discovered a lot that I missed in my first couple of viewings. By my count, in ROUND 3, Randy landed 23 head punches, plus 2 elbows to the head, 10 knees, and 2 body punches. Vera landed 4 punches to the head 1 leg kick, 2 knees, and 1 very solid body kick (the other 2 were blocked or caught) plus he had the takedown in which he landed in the mount, but was unable to land any strikes as Randy completely nullified his offense and quickly escaped. So even if you give Vera 5 points for his wasted TD and 10 points for the big kick, Randy would still outscore him in Round 3. I may be wrong on my exact strike counts, but I think tomorrow Fightmetric will confirm my conclusion that Randy won round 3 and takes the fight 2 rounds to 1 by the 10 point must.. I’ll be interested to see how they score the performance ratings
Final analysis, the judges got this one right (for a change). Couture 29-28

by (shonuff) on Nov 14, 2009 11:41 PM EST reply actions

I’m beginning to get confused with what the judges are mainly marking to get the decision with all the recent UFC results. Vera definitely should have won that decisions!
