MMAmania finally makes it to the SB Nation platform
It only took us one year (almost exactly), but as you'll notice we are now officially on the SB Nation platform.
So what's it mean for you? What will change? What can you expect?
All good things we hope ... otherwise we never would have made the switch.
SB Nation has always advocated community participation, empowering fans to share their thoughts and have their voices heard. That means you can now do much more than debate hot issues and opinions in the comments sections of our posts.
It gets better.
That's because you will soon get to create daily threads and submit stories through "Fan Posts" and "Fan Shots." No more "off topic" comments, thread hijacks or having us decide what gets posted and what does not.
You, the reader, will have the power to create your own stories and have other Maniacs comment on them. It also means unique log in IDs, which is a major issue that our readers have been asking for since we started way back when.
That's just the tip of the iceberg of all the benefits now available to you.
Of course, I will continue to steer the ship and Jesse Holland has for whatever reason agreed to come along for the ride. Our other MMAmania contributors will also still continue to chip in whenever they feel like it or when we twist their arms.
Again, nothing will change in how we operate. In fact, the new format will help us build on this winning formula with more talented writers emerging through the new blogging opportunities.
We will post instructions and other tips on how to effectively use the new features on MMAmania.com in the next few upcoming weeks -- so keep your eyes peeled. That shouldn't stop you, however, from exploring the various new sections, creating your custom IDs (you may already have one if you visit BloodyElbow.com), commenting on stories and sharing your MMA-related opinions.
It's business as usual.
There will more than likely be a few hiccups -- this is all new to us, too. So let us know if something ain't right or isn't working the way it should. And if you have any questions feel free to ask them in the comments section below.
Thanks, as always, for making this place one of (if not the best) places on the Web for MMA news and discussion. It wouldn't be possible without our readers, so we definitely want to hear what you have to say.
Have at it, Maniacs. And, again, let us know if there is anything we can do to help to get you up to speed as quickly as possible.

Thanks ...
It’s really for you guys. Seriously. It’s much more “community friendly” than our old format.

Starting to dig the new format
BUT, I would have recommended not doing it on a “day before the event”. Unless that was done on purpose and you wanted it on a high traffic day – which I would doubt.
Favorite new feature = yellow unread comments.

Working…?

holy crap I’m in….
Hopefully everyone can figure out my new name (Big Zino was disallowed to post ALL morning… ?)
My fear is this is too complicated for me to balance my comments and my
job. – see how it goes as I know others are in my boat.

I hate the format. I mean I really hate it! Then again, I hate it everytime mania changes it! To be honest, I think the format gets worse everytime it gets tweeked. Mania was a unique site I really enjoyed..now you cant tell the difference between posting on Mania, bloodyelbow, mmajunkie…I mean..I dont even feel like I am posting on mania anymore. If this is what I wanted, I would have started posting on those other sites ages ago….Sorry, but I hate it!
The only good part is no more stealing screenames…I like being able to create my own threads, but Im probably not computer savy enough to figure out how to do it!
Sad Day in Mania if you ask me! Sorry
I do however Love
wat up John! long time no talk eh? linx here, don’t worry, this new comment section will grow on you you’ll see. I started posting on BE because of the layout, I’m glad Mania has decided to use SB Nation layout as well.
I hate spinach, and I’m glad that I do
because if I didn’t I’d eat them, and I just hate them.
but...
somebody else on SB already has my screename, so essentially I’ve been permanently hijacked. Plus I liked not having to remember yet another password. I hate any site that makes me create an account and remember another freakin password!

Who were you before? I had to alter mine a bit. Looks like a good number of us have. John is screwed. Lol!

Hahaha!
Honestly, I had a crazy ex-girlfriend posting stuff on my wall and all kinds of crap like Mafia Wars and So and So is feeling blue, yadda, yadda, yadda…I mean, these people are in their 30’s for god’s sake! It was kind of juvenile (but not funny juvenile like us, Mac).
:)
This is just a test!
This will take some getting use to
Dude
Once you get used to it it’s pretty awesome, especially when putting in links and stuff. The format is really user friendly.

agreed
an hour ago I was sceptical but IT IS easier…I like how the posts appear without refreshing…

yep, I’m not really complaining though, this is way better than it used to be, you guys from SB Nation have the best format of all, I visit BloodyElbow a lot as well, so I’m used to this format and love it! (I actually stopped commenting on Mania before because I got so used to the format at BloodyElbow).

looks too cluttered and complicated to me…plus my screename was already taken. :-|

is there a way
to have my own posts highlighted on my vew so i can easily see them and see if anyone’s replied to them?
by shonuff fuhreal on Nov 13, 2009 12:20 PM EST up reply actions
if you click on your name either on a comment or up in the top network bar, you’ll see the number of replies to your most recent comments and click through to the threads

Congratulations
The new plataform is great and all the friends will get into the new settings and all. Its going to be amazing to share thoughts and read what other members of the community have to say. Let’s rock, mates.

hey folks
We (the SB Nation tech/product team) will be around today in this thread to answer any of your questions.
Personally, I’m a big fan of MMA & MMA Mania so I’m psyched to finally have y’all up + running on the SB Nation system. It’s designed to empower fans so it’s really your platform. Have at it!
First tip is to check out the different format shortcuts we provide in comments. Just click the ‘Show Formatting Guide’ link and it will open up.
Second tip are the keyboard shortcuts for reading threads. When you’re logged in, wait for a few new comments to pop-up (they’ll have yellow backgrounds) and then press the ‘z’ key. Will zoom you to the first comment you haven’t read and then we’ll mark it read (by switching the comment background to white). If you want to reply to that comment just click the ‘r’ key.
Here are the instructions:
Press C to tab to new comments, Shift-C to tab backwards, X to mark as read, and Shift-A to mark all read.
The best: Z will simultaneously mark and tab forward, and R will reply to the comment that has focus.
You can always find these at the top of any comment thread if you need a reminder.

woop
Nice one Mania/SB, tho one question, are we still gonna type replies to a comment only to find them nested about 20 comments below or not showing at all???
it does make it really hard trying to follow some comments/arguements
Welcome!
I’m excited about MMA Mania being on SB NAtion and am ready to cause some trouble! Woot!
I'm the kind of girl who loves to watch a GOOD fight!

Change
The format change will take some getting used to, but I think it’s a change for the better. (As long as the content stays the same and we have the same ability to post what we want.)

I liked the old site better.
it was more like a real news site. now this is more like a blog. like bloody elbow.
These are the same guys that run bloody elbow too….

I liked the old one better too
I like the yellow highlighing, but the reason Mania was the only site I post on was that I liked the format and layout so much better. It didn’t look all cluttered up like this and every other site. If I have to put up with this style of site anyway, I might as well go somewhere like BE that has better news stories.

I love this format
I love how easy it is to use and that the posts show immediatly….Having been posting with you guys since the ufcmania days and I am totally diggin this…Looks great MANIA!!!! KEep up the great work…
Glad you guys finally made the jump..
Once you get the hang of things, it’ll be much much easier to handle. Especially liveblogs.
Have fun guys. :)

Welcome to SB Nation Mania!
Seriously, very glad you guys made the jump over. I’ve been posting at BE for a while now and I’ve visited mmamania for just as long. I’ve just never really liked posting here in the past precisely because of:
“off topic” comments, thread hijacks or having us decide what gets posted and what does not.
Sometimes commenting just seemed futile and frustrating. I’m sure you guys will really like this format, and conversations will become more linear instead of being so disjointed. Also, your ability to moderate will give you more control over your comments sections and perhaps it’ll be more civil when people have actual accounts.
Cheers!
I love me some Sexyama!
Looks good
Okay, formerly Jeff on Mania’s site. Just wanted to let Jesse and everyone at Mania know this looks very nice and thanks for all the hard work.
Looks good
That math question was really hard in the sign-up. That will end up keeping some of the weekend warriors of the site at least.
Z
I love the fact that I can hit “Z” and it takes me to the new post instead of having to scroll and find new stuff!

Good to see you on SB Nation finally...
My only complaint is as much as I love the SB Nation platform and what it can deliver, in regards to the design…
My main two news sources for mma over the last couple of years has been Bloody Elbow and MMA Mania, but now they look too similar! I can’t tell which I’m on without having to check the URL, page header or article authors… I could really do with seeing some separation in the sites designs. Bring back the cage style borders on mma mania and a bit more grey back in BE :D
Also the story threads on the homepage don’t seem as distinctly separate anymore… feels too cluttered now!
Apart from that no complaints, can’t wait to see what the new system brings!
Piston fail
Don’t feel bad MM_Eh, I’ve been rapid-fire failing all morning as I adjust, like a piston rat-tat-tat-tat-tat-tat…
It's not enough that I succeed. Everyone else must fail.
This site feels...
The site feels a bit congested. Think you can make the article column expand (width wise) with the browser or something? Maybe make it wider? I like the overall move though; lots of nice, rich features, does feel more structured than before, and feels more organized. Congrats on the “upgrade” MMAmania!
You can make the site wider
Check out the “Narrow” and “Wide” links in the right column at the top of the page. If the site feels too narrow to you on your monitor, then click “Wide” to make it wider.
Proud member of the SB Nation product team
Thank you Jesse and the rest of MMA Mania!
I am so glad you guys made the switch to this format. I’ve been a reader for nearly 3 years now, and I remember when it was called UFCMania! This switch has been a long time coming and you hit the nail on the head when it comes to the comments.
To MMAMania members not familiar with SBNation: I realize this change is drastic for the time being, but you guys will come to LOVE the features here. The live comments alone make the community aspect so much more cohesive, as you will not have to reload a page to see new comments.
Also, the FanPosts and FanShots give EVERYONE a chance to write their own articles and post their own links outside of comments. I suggest all of you head over to Bloody Elbow so you can get an idea of what an established SBNation MMA site is like. Also, BE is a VERY good MMA Blog, I suggest you guys join it also.
Welcome to SBNATION!
congrads guys, happy you guys have changed the platform.
however my loyalties are now split – i was reading you guys before BE and have always comeback to you guys for the facts. Since BE started i have been posting MMA (from the Aussie perspective) thru their fan post section. i think i know the answer… is there a way someone can post the same article on both Mania and BE?
