Take that dana white!

by lee maury on Nov 10, 2009 8:15 PM EST reply actions

Not really. Dana got better ratings with Kimbo on one episode of TUF.

by naturalshadow on Nov 11, 2009 12:48 AM EST up reply actions

Yeah and all the Kimbo fans who watched that episode now know Kimbo isn’t really that good which means he’s not much of a huge draw anymore. Dana hyped up the fight knowing it actually sucked. Thats his job. Telling people that bad fights/fighters are good and that good fights/fighters suck. Read my post below.

by Kayo on Nov 11, 2009 1:09 AM EST up reply actions

so no matter how much money they pay fedor and no matter how much money is spent trying to promote fedor…and no matter how good he is…kimbo still got higher ratings when he fought primetime for elite ex….

and dana has kimbo…who can outdraw strikeforce’s biggest star…so dana has the last laugh after all

by HellaHectic on Nov 10, 2009 8:16 PM EST reply actions

except for the fact that a lot of newer mma fans now know how that short fat russian guy is. Look I’m not saying that the next time Fedor fights it will be kimbo ratings but it will be higher than this time. Kimbo on the other hand his ratings went down ever time he fought and his stock sunk even further when he got knocked out in 14 sec.

by armbar on Nov 10, 2009 8:20 PM EST up reply actions

yea armbar kimbo’s stock has dropped so low that when his fight with nelson was televised 4 months after it already happened it was the highest rated tuf episode ever…and if he fights again it will be the 2nd highest ever…

by HellaHectic on Nov 10, 2009 8:23 PM EST up reply actions

I didn’t say that it dropped low I just said that it dropped. If you look at the ratings everytime that he has fought it has been a decrease in ratings. I am by no means saying that he doesnt have a huge drawing power. I think that fedors ratings will do the reverse and go up.

by armbar on Nov 10, 2009 8:34 PM EST up reply actions

i just dont see it happening for the simple fact that there is no one for him to fight after werdum and overreem…ufc isnt gonna let any of their top hw prospects leave anytime soon…so is strikeforce gonna go through other sam’s club stores looking for more employees that fedor can beat up?

they gonna bring tank abbot or butterbean in for him? after the next 2 fights there arent any top contenders for fedor to fight…

by HellaHectic on Nov 10, 2009 8:46 PM EST up reply actions

yeah good points.

by armbar on Nov 10, 2009 9:00 PM EST up reply actions

Regardless, Kimbo may be the better draw right now…

But Strikeforce didn’t market this fight really at all. And they still got this much viewership. That’s impressive.

Imagine how well Strikeforce would have done with a UFC like hype and marketing team

by Bob Lawblah on Nov 10, 2009 9:03 PM EST up reply actions

There is always new fighters coming up, and Strikeforce has a great system (Showtime Challenger Series) for making new stars.

Bobby Lashley might be a year away from getting a shot but a few wins over top talent would put him in position for a shot.

Josh Barnett would be a legit contender in a year when his suspension is done.

and if Arlovski could get back on track alot of people would say “he was doing well before he made his mistake”

there will be plenty of challengers in the future don’t kid yourself.

by markie on Nov 10, 2009 11:16 PM EST up reply actions

Exactly what I was thinking. There are lots of HW prospects out there who wants to be the best. I´m sure SF will bring a lot of great fights in the HW division. By the way UFC doesn´t really have a great HW div. I would rather see Overeem, Fedor, Rogers, Bigfoot, Barnett, Aleks, Kharitonov and Herman then Brock, Carwin and Cain.

by johan-lofgren on Nov 11, 2009 4:06 AM EST up reply actions

@bob lawblah….STRIKEFORCE CANT HAVE UFC HYPE CAUSE THEY DONT HAVE UFC TALENT FOR FEDOR TO FIGHT!

when you hype a guy as “THE GREATEST MMA FIGHTER IN THE HISTORY OF PLANET EARTH” you better be damn well able to back that up….and prove it every time he fights…

@markie who says “theres new fighters coming up, strikeforce has a great system for making new stars” are u serious? thats how fedor is gonna continue to prove he is “THE GREATEST MMA FIGHTER IN THE HISTORY OF PLANET EARTH” by beating guys who no one has even heard of?

thats like drew brees and the saints playing a high school football team to prove to people they’re the best team in football….

by HellaHectic on Nov 11, 2009 1:36 PM EST up reply actions

hey Hella.. how do Dana’s balls taste? do they taste like all the other sacks you are on?

by Javster on Nov 10, 2009 9:22 PM EST up reply actions

im just stating facts…in america fedor just isnt a draw no matter how they market him…

the day fedor can draw a million buys on ppv on his own name alone will be impressive…till then he’ll just be “that russian guy who’s really good” to the majority of american mma fans…

and my point still stands…after alistar and werdum…then what? what are they gonna do then? who is left for him to beat up that they can still market as “the greatest fighter on the planet”?

might as well bring in bob sapp…that would look impressive to the average idiot fan who has no idea who the hell fedor is…cause they’ll be like “oh wow..he must truly be a badass cause he just beat a dude thats like 400 pounds…holy shit!”

the strikeforce fedor hype is nothing more than an hourglass with the sand emptying faster than they can refill it…after his next 2 fights there is no one left…they’ll be contacting rejects from this season’s tuf cast to look for guys for fedor to beat up…

they’ll be no contenders left…nothing but scraps…tank, butterbean, maybe ken shamrock, kimo, some people like that

by HellaHectic on Nov 10, 2009 10:16 PM EST up reply actions

First off, what fighter in the UFC can bring in 100,000? please don’t say brock. Tito Ortiz is the only one who possibly off name has a chance.
As well, people were watching to see Fedor. if 4.5 million people tuned in to watch him, then 1, Strikeforce and CBS made millions in the minutes before, during and after the fight in commercial sales. Remember, commercial rates can change based on numbers.

2, Werdum is a hell of a fighter and it was horrible for the UFC to get rid of him. Dos Santos is on fire! just a bad night. Overeem is a paper champ and not really credible as a heavyweight. I see him winning the strikeforece belt and the UFC trying one more time to sign him. if it falls through, I honestly see him retiring.

by Javster on Nov 10, 2009 11:04 PM EST up reply actions

You don’t think Brock’s name is a huge draw?

by naturalshadow on Nov 11, 2009 12:55 AM EST up reply actions

Hella do you think Kimbo still has drawing power after he got exposed twice on national television??? You are saying Dana has Kimbo but does that really even matter anymore? People tuned in because of all the hype Dana and the UFC put behind it when they knew themselves the fight really sucked. I just don’t think Kimbo is that much of a draw anymore. You also think the casual fan actually cared or knew about the opponents Kimbo has fought? Hell no they just knew kimbo could knock people out and the punch Fedor threw saturday night was more impressive than anything Kimbo has delivered. People I know who don’t watch mma at my work now know who Fedor is and are just amazed at the fact he beat a huge black dude twice the size of him haha. Those are also ex kimbo fans we are talking about so I think strikeforce did their job pretty well.

Same as Brock’s I bet.

grats strikeforce…

I don’t understand why all you guys argue so much about UFC or Strikeforce? It’s all about the entertainment to me and as long as there are some good fights on the weekends, I will be happy! This is coming from a big UFC and Dana White fan! So I ask “Are you not entertained?”

by Who Gives a F@€k on Nov 10, 2009 10:23 PM EST reply actions

Ton of my friends dvr’s stopped at 11 and missed the final fight. I wonder what the numbers woulda been if even would have been on time.

by Whyisitlegal on Nov 11, 2009 12:23 AM EST reply actions

Kimbo will eventually have super shiit rating on the other hand if Fedor keeps winning which is very very likely his rating will just increase and increase and increase.

by Khaos_Warrior on Nov 11, 2009 12:28 AM EST reply actions

If Strikeforce gave Bobby Lashley a title shot today, he’d actually be as deserving if not more deserving than Brock was when he got the title shot lol. Lesnar had 3 fights, and was just 1-1 in the UFC. His other win was against a Korean who was 2-6. So far, Brock has had 5 total fights, facing only 4 fighters. 2 of those fighters are gonna retire soon, and 1 of those fighters is probably the most overrated fighter in mma today. How can anyone reasonably say he’s the best again?……. Oh yea, because Dana White said so.

by art on Nov 11, 2009 4:32 AM EST reply actions

great post man!

by john G on Nov 11, 2009 8:59 AM EST up reply actions

It’s because of obvious talent. You don’t need to see 40 of Brocks fights to know he has unnatural talent. Lashley is a bum. You’re clueless if you think Lashley is half the fighter Brock is.

by jay on Nov 11, 2009 9:02 AM EST up reply actions

So, your MMA ranking is based on “obvious talent”?

Tiger Woods has talent, so if he fought once should he be ranked #1 at MW?

by OJR is King (formerly introvert) on Nov 11, 2009 9:51 AM EST up reply actions

At 2-1, Brock came close to beating Mir and had him in danger before the piss poor stand-up and point deduction then destroyed Herring for 3 rounds in much more impressive fashion than Big Nog had done, when Heath was coming off a win over Kongo. Lashley’s biggest wins are over Bob Sapp and Jason Guida, the latter being a far from impressive performance over a talentless bloated LHW or couldn’t even make weight for TUF.

Brock is also a full-time MMAist unlike part-time TNA wrestler Lashley and was a far more successful amateur and pro wrestler, making him a more decorated athlete and a bigger name than a clumsy idiot who sounds like a child when he speaks.

Lashley could be a great MMAist but Brock is taking his career a lot more seriously and is a bigger and better fighter than Bobby. He’s also a lot more charismatic so he can sell millions of PPVs, Lashley has no idea how to promote himself or a fight and sucked as a pro wrestler, his promos were laughable. Saying that Lashley deserved a UFC title shot more than Lesnar is laughable, he’s not getting fastracked but he’s also not the athlete or the name that Brock is so he isn’t anywhere near as marketable and wouldn’t be able to beat top HWs like Brock did.

Agree with art.

by LLC on Nov 11, 2009 9:02 AM EST up reply actions

Good ratings but lets see the real numbers. How much did they spend and how much did they make. Not the exact numbers but did StrikeForce really win or lose on this one?

by DolFan on Nov 11, 2009 6:53 PM EST reply actions

Those are some crazy ratings! Kimbo on UFC still drew better though for a way shittier fight, but this is good for the sport of MMA.
