Swick has lost one fight in the UFC. How has he frozen under pressure?
by PW on Nov 10, 2009 11:20 AM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Swick would probably be a lot faster is he didn’t try to distract his opponent by sticking his arms out between punches. Man, that gets to me so much. It is so elementary. “Hey look at my right arm it’s sticking way out over here, Ok now he’s distracted and I can punch him with a left hook.”

just in case you guys who r interested missed it!
.******MONDAY MORNING BLACK BELT*******
Those of you that are football fans get the title, those of you overseas, it’s funny, trust me!
I haven’t had much of a chance to give my thoughts on strikeforce’s event saturday, so bear with me:
Werdum and Silva was an OK fight, nothing special!
I’ll give credit where credit is due in the next two, Sokuju looked really good in the first round. He wasn’t as muscular and didn’t instantly gas! That said, Moussassi is the man. He is slowly but surely becoming one of my favorites and I personally can’t wait until he is in the UFC, probably sometime next year! Not that strikeforce doesn’t put on a good show, but there is so much more LHW competition for him to fight!
On to, in my opinion, the fight of the night! If you’re a one punch KO fan, you were probably bored during the Shields/Miller fight, but if you are into BJJ, it was a great fight. The back and forth up down and transitions in this fight were very impressive. I was in no way a Miller fan coming into this fight, and was a pretty big Shields fan/ By thew 3rd round I was rooting for Miller and really losing any respect or fandom I had left for Shields. His stand up is so bad that it’s actually pathetic, and for an elite BJJ black belt under a guy who’s only given out 2 or 3 black belts, he should be embarrassed at himself! He had numerous mounts and had Millers back too many times to count, and did nothing. 3 More seconds and he’s tapping and Miller wins. Yes, Jake won the fight, but he lost a lot of fans in the process! Also, I’m glad to see he’s no longer calling out GSP, GSP could come into a fight with Shields with a broken leg and would dominate him! You notice the only person interested in hearing him call out Cung Le was his butt buddy Gilbert Melendez? Jake lives and trains in the bay area, and I know for a fact has every opportunity to train at Andre Ward’s gym (the Diaz brothers do), try it out Jake! One last thing, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but Jake, you’re not even the best MW in your camp. In a MW fight, Nick Diaz would make you look silly!
On to the main event. I don’t care what anyone says, Fedor was in trouble when Rogers was on top of him! In true Fedor fashion, he stayed calm and cool and won in great fashion! I don’t know where strikeforce goes from here. I for one have no interest in seeing Fedor/Werdum, I already know how that fight plays out! I truly don’t know who (other than Overeem) that strikeforce can throw at him and actually have a competitive fight.
I know a lot of you are jumping on Rogers for his post fight comments, and as you know, I’m old school and all about class and sportsmanship, that said, he’s never tasted defeat before. In the heat of the moment you got his true feelings. I’ll for one, give him a pass! He’ll go back and learn from this.
Overall a good night of fights, terrible color commentary, and too much nothing! When I say “too much nothing,” they try to fit in all this useless B.S. but we don’t get ring entrances, and 2 native Chicagoans actually got cut from the event. Yes they got their show money, but they didn’t get to compete after training to fight and didn’t get sponsorship money (which is reportedly higher than their show money). Also it ran 20 min over. PPV’s don’t go long, contractually they can’t! If you want to have a 3 hour show and compete with the UFC, then plan a 3 hour show, if not, plan your 2 hours better. I’m not into having to stream a main event online because I’m assuming the show won’t run into the news!
Good night of fights overall!

Way off topic but did anyone here watch Dhani tackles the globe? I just got it on my netflix and I had seen the Muay Thai one, but in the Sambo episode, he really impresses me. For those doubting guys that play football doing MMA, just wait until some of the youbg bucks that aren’t 350 pounds start trying to come over. Dhani is about 6 ft 1, 240 pounds, and he is easily the quickest guy in all the sports he practices, and he is an average football player. When the Ray Lewis’, Urlachers’, Patrick Willis’s, and Maurice Jones-Drews decide to purse MMA as opposed to football, things could get interesting.

I saw the MT episode and also the rugby show in England. Did OK as a wing forward, but any idiot can play that position. It’s like being a wing in the backline, it’s just where you start out so you can’t do any damage. And yes, I’ve played both positions. It looked like keeping up with his teammates in the pub was going to kill him though.

no it won’t, ur talking about guys that will be well into their 30’s just starting out. Yes, lesser organizations would like them for name recognition, but you fail to realize that MMAists now are starting in their pre teens and teens, some goofball NFLer that is too old to still play competitively in the NFL doesn’t interest me as much as someone who has dedicated their life to it!

In the Okami,Loiseau and Burkman fights he was tentative with his strikes and those were his biggest fights, I still like the guy, just seems that way, the same with Vera, doing enough to win but doesn’t look as destructive when facing top guys

Okami was way bigger, and Burkman was his first fight after Swicking down to WW. I’m sure I saw his fight with Loiseau, but I’ll be damned if I can remember it. I think he’s far enough ahead of Hardy at this point to handle him in a relatively short but firework-filled fight.

Fast hands, with KO power.. should be an awesome fight!

Swick takes this in my opinion,he’s more well rounded and he has the potential to hurt Hardy on the feet mutually.Difference is his hands are a little faster,I wouldnt want to see Hardy get out wrestled by GSP anyway,it would be another ground and pound clinic for St.Pierre,at least Swick does have some Jiu-jitsu on the ground.

He has very good hands, I think it will be close and both fights will be fast and entertaining.
Swick could probably take out Fedor if he was only in the UFC.

Handspeed is why I thought Vitor could catch Fedor and KO him when it looked like they would fight but you can’t be serious suggesting that Swick would beat him. He was tiny on TUF 1 compared to Stephan Bonnar when he went on as a LHW, nevermind the fact that he now fights at 170 and Fedor is 230. That fight would end up looking like the Fedor-Aoki grappling exhibition, he’s far too small to troule Gegard nevermind Fedor.

LOL
I’m just kidding.
But I do think this to answer OJH or whatever his name is from yesterday about best fighter of all time:
If I had to pick a best fighter and possibly my favorite fighter,I might go with GSP as the best fighter of all time, he has consistently fought top competition and has destroyed fighters considered to be amongst the best of all time like BJ and Hughes. Apart from 2 stumbles he has improved and impresses with every fight and made his opponents appear outclassed in their element.
Fedor is great but overhyped and can’t claim any of these things.

I want Hardy to win but Swick has to be the favourite, his handspeed will be too much for Dan to cope with. Only Belfort has faster hands in MMA. Swick gets stick on this site but I like the guy and I am expecting him to win this fight, though he has no chance against GSP.

Dude, those are some FASSSSTTT hands!!! Looks like he has improved his power as well. Maybe he’s adjusted to the 170 lb cut. Hardy won’t last two rounds!!!

Manchester makes me hungry. I sure could go for a nice hot basket of Swick ’n chips.

I heard Swick and Diego were training together recently. It was a closed door session but many commented on the noises coming out:
“aaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh”
“Yesh”
“aaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh”
“Yesh”
and erm… so on…………….

the only thing swick needs to work on to improve his stand up is keeping the hands up even when throwing those punches

the only thing swick needs to work on for his striking is keeping those hands up even twhen throwing punches becuase u can see he drops them when he throws.
