i wonder how this fight would have gone down in Dream’s Super Hulk tournament.
by nameless on Nov 8, 2009 3:55 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
i was wondering that myself. for some reason i think gegard would’ve turned in a slightly better performance but impossible to say, really.
by frosnt on Nov 8, 2009 4:03 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
(not that I thought it was a bad performance. I thought he had a bad strategy though of trying to take Soko down in the first as Soko is very strong and has great Judo Gegard should’ve used his superior striking in the 1st then waited for his opportunity to take it to the ground once Soko inevitably gassed in the 2nd).
by frosnt on Nov 8, 2009 4:04 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
he said he went to the sauna too much. He likes to experiment with his training techniques and apparently this was not effective.
by frosnt on Nov 8, 2009 5:49 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Since Gegard has Fedor as a mentor he tried the russian sauna experiment. I guess it only works for russians.

Isn’t “The Russian Sauna” where you fart in bed and pull the covers over your girl’s head?

people are criticizing gegards performance but this was probably one the best sokoudjou performances ever seen. gegard weathered the early storm and then dominated.
by Jared on Nov 8, 2009 4:13 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Well overall, Sokodjou really has a rare and amazing skillset. Problem is that he doesn;t adapt it too well in MMA. Too bad he also couldn’t hang with the big boys for some strange reason. If I was that big and quick, I’d just walk through the whole UFC LHW div.
by Syd on Nov 8, 2009 5:20 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
yea, because tito is big and talented and yet he can’t do very well either so im sure u wud’nt jack to the best lhw fighters..
by guyverbob on Nov 8, 2009 7:30 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
But Tito doesn’t have striking, that’s the big difference. As for Soko, good TDD would do the trick….His grappling could use some work though…
by Syd on Nov 8, 2009 10:43 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Really it is just the ground part of his grappling that isn’t very good. Like Randy said, he is a great Judo practitioner, but he doesn’t have the submission skills to finsih someone he gets to the ground. He got off a few nice takedowns on Gegard, but when he had the dominant position, he didn’t seem to know what to do with it.

I know Syd personally, and I’m telling you: he would walk through the whole UFC light-heavyweight division.

Syd and MMA crossfire are the same person. Get out of here with this complete bull your feeding us. Your the definition of a keyboard warrior. If your so damn good go out and get a few fights locally and get your name out there. If you’ve already dominated on the local scene give us your name and let us look up your record. Otherwise please shut it on the subject and remember your place is at home on a computer.

Listen, anyone who isnt impressed with what mousasi and Fedor did last night are just ultra-critical haters. Being top fighters doesnt mean you destroy everyone they put in front of you in 1 minute and a half. and if Haters want to bash guys like Soko and Grim its just pathetic. Both are worthy opponents and very tough guys in certain aspects of mma. They just arent WELL ROUNDED like the Fedor’s and Gegards’s of the world. Sokoudjou is a very tough opponent, especially in the 1st round! Its just that we are too critical of him because he was hyped up way too fast after shocking the world ko’ing rogerio and arona. The guy is really young with not a lot of experience. THose fights with Nog and arona werent wars..they were quick ko’s. He has good and powerful hands, and some of the Nastiest kicks in the division. His egs are so strong that it gives him a great base and he knows how to use it because of his Judo, so when Gegard would take him down he was able to land on top. Its not like he was taking gegard down. There wont be too many people that can land on top of MOusasi the way soko did last night. Dont think Hendo can at all! Wrestling had nothing to do wiwth last nights fights. They were both attempting Sambo and Judo throws…thats snot Hendo’s world…so you cant automatically assume that Hendo wil be on top Gegard when they hit the ground the way Soko was.
Gegeard was awesome. He got some ring time and like Fedor he fought the perfect strategy. You have to be patient with guys like Grim and Soko and weather the early storm. its not that Gegard wasnt dominant because he was for the most part. He was following the game plan and being patient. Mousasi is turning into an Elite fighter and he will only improve. He now has Fedor’s demeanor, mental fortitude, gameplan execution, patience, calm, he is even holding his hands like Fedor and implementing Sambo throws. Same, ruthless Ground n pound. Watching Mousasi is a amazing. Its like a MOnster growing before your eyes!
just cause he didnt beat Soko in under a minute, iit doesnt change the fact that it was a masterful performance.

We actually have a lot to be thankful for when it comes to this event. We got a great ground clinic from Werdum while also getting a great fight from Soku and Gegard and another from Fedor and Brett. I didn’t particularly enjoy the Shields fight but he showed us how dominant a wrestler really can be… I personally will try never to watch a Shields fight again until he gets into the UFC, where he’ll have competition that he can’t hold down. I felt like Gegard controlled the whole fight and was playing smart waiting for Soku to wear down. Soku on the other hand was playing smart and not going all out like he normally does, he was trying to counter most of Gegards moves. And Brett stood his ground but at no point in that fight was I worried for Fedor. You could tell early that Brett had bought into the Fedor Aura. All in all a very great card imo, could have done without Shields and the constant booing. but imo that was because his opponent was to busy trying to play it to the camera and the fans rather than trying to play it safe and keep his distance standing.

settle down. He hasn’t been training martial arts long and this was his first fight. It’s unrealistic to expect him to react well to his first loss, particularly from his background. I actually liked his attitude post fight. He knew he made mistakes and seems like the type to go and put the time in to fix them. There’s far too much fake bullshit “sportsmanship” these days. PPl complain when an NFL coach doesn’t shake the other coach’s hand after a game or a fighter doesn’t laud his opponent after he loses. Who gives a shit? I appreciate when those moments happen and seem genuine but that’s not gonna happen every time and if they don’t mean it, I don’t want to see it. Stop being so fucking sensitive ppl. The best athletes always share certain traits. 1. they are insanely competetive and never really “accept” defeat 2. they are never satisfied with their own performance.
Don’t get so upset when a guy doesn’t react the way you think he should. It’s his life/career on the line and there’s alot of emotion tied up in it. We get upset cuz we might have lost some money on the fight but these guys are trying to achieve goals and provide for their families.
by Crowls on Nov 8, 2009 5:30 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
have you ever heard about respect, proffessionalism or sportsmanship? its a sport not a fight out on the street … Rogers is just losing fans and respect when he acts like that…
by anaconda choke on Nov 8, 2009 6:13 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
i’m sure he’s torn up about it. you said it yourself. Professional. These are not little kids. Fans shouldn’t get so caught up in handshakes and the like. Who cares, it’s about results, not what happens before or after the fight/game. Anaconda, you don’t want to root for him because of his attitude, it doesn’t matter. If he gets you to hate him and root against him, he’s still doing the job. It’s the Tito effect. The only way it hurts the business(and these are professionals right?) and his pocket is if you don’t care. Part of the biz is to garner interest in the fights.
All that is beside my point. I was just trying to point out that it’s the guy’s first loss and ppl shouldn’t jump all over him just yet. It’s not like he ran out of the ring before he could get interviewed or anything like forrest(twice) and to this point he has not had a nervous breakdown, stayed up all night drinking red bulls and then driven recklessly. So save all the outrage over his comments. There are much worse ways to handle a loss then saying “best believe next time I’m gonna throw my hands more”….come on guys, it’s not like he said fedor is a bitch and got lucky. Grow up. These are the type of “participation award” attitudes that are gonna ruin this country.
by Crowls on Nov 8, 2009 7:18 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
To me, for a guy that just got laid out cold, he sure was pretty cocky and full of himself. Just shut your mouth, say I could have done better and take the loss like a man, period.
by UFC Champ on Nov 8, 2009 8:43 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
I said this before and wondering I think Rogers may have lost something between the Fedor interview and his interview. It almost sounded to me like he felt Fedor called him out for the Rematch. Go back and watch his reaction and what he says. I think it is being overblown as well. He just ran the media circuit with Fedor for the last 2 months and now he just lost after doing more then anyone thought he was going to do. Most people didn’t give him more then 30 seconds, yet he took FEdor into the second round for the first time since 2006. Doesnt make sense…
by Da Monkey on Nov 9, 2009 4:58 AM EST up reply actions 0 recs
In fairness to Grim, it was the 1st time that he suffered a lost, and I am sure that he has never been Ko’ed like that. Its an emotional sport and I try not to hold post fight comments against fighters!
i thought it was real cool how THE GRIM made his enterance to the Undertaker song!
by john G on Nov 9, 2009 8:31 AM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Let the grim be cocky. In a rematch he still gets his head knocked off. The aura of Fedor got to him and he felt Fedors power. Do you think he’ll be any different in a rematch? I would actually like to see him rematch Arlovski first.
by Cogito Ergo Sum on Nov 9, 2009 9:18 AM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Sokoudjou did show some remarkable balance and body control in the first round but didn’t show up for the second round for some reason.
Mousasi is a true talent, but he better perfect his training regime if and when he fights Dan Henderson.

uhhh no, mousasi was fighter of the year for 2008, he fought six times in mma, finishing all but one opponent, and once in K1, also finishing his opponent… rashad evans knocked out chuck lidell and forrest griffin, while that is impressive, its nowhere near what mousasi did
by brendan on Nov 8, 2009 10:25 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Rashad was the UFC’s Fighter of the Year. The whole of MMA’s Fighter of the Year was Gegard Mousasi. I dunno if Sherdog did it or what, but it was Mousasi.

why are people so hung up on thinking hendo isn’t going back to the ufc, this is the same company who was “done” with tito ortiz, “done” with cro cop, etc etc, hendo isn’t ready to sign ANYWHERE yet, dana said affliction signed tito, then said it was strikeforce, hendo will sign with the ufc under negotiations with the fertittas like everyone else

I don`t know randy I hope your right because there is only one good fight in Strikeforce for Dan but Strikeforce needs a LHW fighter bad to compete against Gegard and might be willing to pay Dan a nice wad just look at what they give shamrock at least Dan is a top five LHW.

How old are you? 10?
Evans would get badly beaten by Mousasi, Machida and Rua would be close, A.Silva id say beats him at the moment but in a few years Mousasi will be #1 p4p (unless Fedor’s still around of course)
Sokudjou is always extremely dangerous in the first round and almost always wins it, Mousasi just weathered the storm and took care of business in the second.

Has everybody just forgot that this dude is
1) Very young and improving… FAST!
2) Really a MW, who jumped UP to LHW! Because his THAT good!
So if you wanna do a world ranking or PP-ranking, you better count him in as MW! My opinion: He would land as high as 2-3 and climbing.
He’s not flashy, he’s not cocky, he’s just very cool and confident and finds a way to win. Very Fedorish…
by Choke_Him on Nov 9, 2009 11:08 AM EST up reply actions 0 recs
mousasi could most definitely beat evans. rashad’s not that great! his big wins are over bisping, chuck, and forrest. we know chuck’s washed up. we found out bisping wasn’t half as good as anyone thought he was in his fight against hendo. and forrest my possibly be the most overrated fighter in the ufc today, well except for maybe rashad evans. mousasi would have his hands full against machida, spider, and shogun, but how long has he been fighting professionally compared to those 3 guys?

I’m a mousasi fan but none of those guys are top ten and none have beaten top ten fighters recently. No one knows what’s gonna happen that poor spelling fellow has as much chance of being right as you do. I think gegard will have a very bright future buts he needs more than two 205 fights before we crown his ass. To say he would walk through Rashad is a very questionable statement.

This Gerard guy seems pretty cocky. Any top 5 UFC LHW’er would murder him. Soko could’ve clearly gotten the mount pretty easy i don’t know why he didn’t go for it. The guy can fight but he isn’t as great as some of you make him seem. Please UFC sign this bastard and feed him to the wolves.

Mousasi is a great fighter is he the best I don`t think so but he can compete with the best and I have him rated number three in the world he has skills one fighter that we might get to see him face that I think is a top five LHW is Henderson.
1,2) Machida & Rua we will find out who is the best soon and of coarse Silva is there if you want him on the LHW list and probaly the best out of them
3) Mousasi
4) Henderson
5) Belfort
Close to the top five I have Evans, Jackson and TSilva in that order Jackson is falling down my list as I had him at 4 but he seems to be getting worse instead of better
Guys that can break in the future depending how they look and might already be but need to prove it are
Ortiz, Little NOG & Cane

Well machida is BY FAR the best LHW in the world, anderson silva is seconds, shogun is third, rashad is 4th henderson is 5th belfort is 6th and musasi is 7th.

I believe he’s top 5 based on his record which is very impressive. But labeling him top 5 based on his opponents i dont agree with,he needs better quality opponents to legit his top 5 position.Chuck destroyed babalu 2wice,Lambert knocked him sensless 2,Babalu submitted Soko for goodness sake, who Machida made look like a beginner,Jacares a legendary grappler not mma fighter yet and he even gave Gaga a scare until the 4th grade bike pedal,my point is he needs quality wins over guys like Hendo,Machida,Page,Nate,Jardine,Evans, and so on to legitimately start considering him on the pound for pound list.
