Paul 'Semtex' Daley: Carlos Condit is a worse version of Martin Kampmann

Props: MMAWeekly
Quoteworthy:
"(Carlos) is a great fight for myself. He’s a great, game striker. Like’s to have a bang, has some good submissions, and a bit of wrestling. But in my opinion, he’s a slightly worse version of (Martin) Kampmann, in that I don’t think he’s as solid in every area as Kampmann is. Of course I think I’m going to win and of course I think I’m going to win by knockout."
Cocky and confident welterweight striker Paul Daley weighs in on his next opponent, former WEC stud Carlos Condit, who will meet "Semtex" on the main card of UFC 108. The heavy-handed Daley vaulted himself to the upper echelon of welterweights after knocking out Martin Kampmann at UFC 103 on Sept. 19 and doesn't expect much resistance from "The Natural Born Killer" on Jan. 2. Will the crafty Condit get steamrolled in Las Vegas? Or is Daley getting a little too big for his britches after his win over "The Hitman?"

Should be a good fight! Looking forward to it. I do not know why but I will probably be cheering for Carlos.

Agreed. gotta say that Daley’s sprawl > Condit’s TDs. We saw that bomb slinging ellenberger nearly put him out last time so i can only imagine what a seasoned technical striker with explosive speed and power can do to him. I am thinking another upset if the betting lines favor Condit due to his distinct advantage on the mat.
by NameNotRequired on Nov 5, 2009 10:42 AM EST up reply actions
TD is one thing but we’ll see what Carlos can do from his back as pulling guard might be the only way to get Semtex to the mat…Carlos 2nd rnd sub
by McArthur on Nov 5, 2009 10:48 AM EST up reply actions
Semtex is right in that Carlos and Kampman have very similar skillsets. I think Condit watched closely to what happened to Kampman and won’t make the same mistake. I look for Carlos to control distance with lateral movement, work leg kicks, and wait for an opening for a takedown. Once on the ground, its a Condit. As long as he can weather an early storm from Daily, Condit will be OK. NBK by SUB.

condit will win the way kampman should of won….but condit will take semtex serious unlike kampman

I’m starting to like Semtex I think ground game is improving enough to at least be able to fight his way back to his feat were he will have the advantage will wait and see against a great test condit.

NNR: YOu know Im taking Semtex again buddy!
As much as I like condit, there is no doubt in my mind that Semtex is going to take his head off! I have been begging for the uFC to sign him for years now, while 90% of you all bashed the hell out of me! This kid has a very bright future and I am happy to see the day where I can post about Semtex with out being crucified by you guys!
The UFC needs to avoid matching him up against Rumble, because he will beat the piss out of rumble , knocking him right back down the welterweight ladder!
Semtex vs. Alves is one of the most entertaining match ups that the UFC Welterweight division has to offer!

haha im with John on this one, Daley is defo an up and comer and cant wait for him to destroy condit,
wanna see daley vs hardy ( tho i heard they both train at same gym..so might not wanna fight each other) and winner gets gsp
and even tho it a long shot i want daley to de-throne jesus saint pierre

You may catch a lot of crap John, but you have to admit that you are incredibly critical of people on this site as well and you are always talking down to people on this site, not trying to start a fight, just sayin
by Dave on Nov 5, 2009 11:17 AM EST up reply actions
MMA math 101. Kampmann beats Condit. Daley KO’s Kampmann. Daley must be able to KO Condit.
We’ll see how that math works out. Probably about how it usually does.
Condit by submission.
by wAyNe on Nov 5, 2009 11:46 AM EST up reply actions
I like to talk down to people too. If there werent so many nobodies with opinions then I wouldn’t have to. On the hand of Semtex, I have to thank John for talking about him all the time because this site almost never gave any coverage on him until he was in that tournament. Once I watched his fights I was hooked. Poeple used to rage on John a lot but not so much anymore. I do remember a certain somebody saying that Rua wouldn’t even be competition to Shogun and looked forward to making John or myself appologize for thinking he was… so when that type of crap happens, yeah I, just like John, want to get in that nobodies face and say straight up, you don’t know jack about MMA. just sayin
by Cogito Ergo Sum on Nov 5, 2009 11:47 AM EST up reply actions
btw Semtex will tear Condits head off. I thought Condit was over rated when he was in WEC and its being proven come fight time. I would love to see some black on black crime with Daley and Rumble cause it’d be like practice for Semtex. then after that the epic fight between Daley and Alves would be something I would pay to watch as a main event, no lies.
by Cogito Ergo Sum on Nov 5, 2009 11:51 AM EST up reply actions
john g i was just thinking the same fight man, alves vs semtex, i wouldnt put condit in with him yet, daley is going to end this one with a brutal knockout and expose condit as the fact HE CANT STAND he could against subpar fighters (c level at best) but semtex is an easy b level maybe a level fighter (hughes, kos, fitch, gsp, and alves are the other a level WW i consider) but other than alves not many of the others would stand with semtex and condit is getting destroyed
by randy murders on Nov 5, 2009 11:53 AM EST up reply actions
I like Semtex and believe he will kill Kampmann. But do you guys really believe he could be a good fight against Alves? Or that he would kill AJ? Not arguing, but you guys give him that much credit? I hope you are right but I just don’t see it.

by Dixon on Nov 5, 2009 12:31 PM EST up reply actions
Dixon… That is my point I have been making here forever. There seems to be a few guys like cogito and others I won’t name that think this is their site because they have been posting here a little longer than others. It makes them think they are smarter or better than everyone else. It’s sad really when you think you are cool because you have been wasting your life blogging longer than others. I hate it when they say stuff like that. But for the most part they are nice guys.
by jay on Nov 5, 2009 12:40 PM EST up reply actions
Jay I know you know that I don’t think this site is mine and I definetly don’t act like it. What I’m saying is there are guys on here who like to act like they know something over you. When I run into those guys, I’m relentless and because this is just a blogging site I have no qualms about what I say and or do. Honestly, if your a humble blogger and you give good valid opinions, then I don’t mind. But if your on here telling me that I am wrong for thinking (just an example) that Rua couldn’t hang with Machida then I’m going to grill you. I don’t hold grudges and on one thread I can be cool with you and another one I’ll be a prick. I’m sorry its just the way I am and I can’t say that I don’t deserve to be grilled sometimes too. btw I only go on this site at work like everyone else, so its not like I don’t have a life, its just that I’m lazy and this is a good outlet for letting frustration go. So take it or leave it how you may.
by Cogito Ergo Sum on Nov 5, 2009 12:49 PM EST up reply actions
I have spoken to you a few times on here and you have always been nice. I didn’t mean anything by what I said. You weren’t who I had in mind when I said that. But you are one of the olde school guys so I used you as an example. Calling people nobodies is implying that you are better than them though.

lol @ Mac.
John you know that I was one of those guys that were flaming you for Semtex and I’m gonna do it again for this time, even if you made me changed my mind last fight and that I took for him. Semtex did what he was supposed to do of surprising his opponent by finishing him quick standing up. Now that every body know for sure that he’s got power in his hands they just gonna take him down repetitively b/c every body knows that he’s pure sh!t on the ground. I don’t see Daley passing thru Condit easily like he think he will. I’m sure that Condit will do everything to get the W and that’s taking Daley to the ground and submit him.
by Alpha Male on Nov 5, 2009 1:46 PM EST up reply actions
Mac, if anything I overuse IMO. Unless I’m talking about an Andy fight then it’s obvious who is going to win ;).
Semtex should be the favourite for this fight, he looked superb against Kampmann albeit Martin came in with a horrendous gameplan. However, Carlos has worse striking and was very lucky to not have the fight stopped against Ellenberger, he was badly hurt twice. If the fight stays standing then it’ll be a quick win for Daley, if Carlos gets it to the ground then he’ll get a submission, although I think he’ll be more likely to catch Semtex when hurt on his back than by taking him down and submitting him on top. The smarter fighter will win this, hopefully it’ll be Semtex by KO.

Yes, I will argue to death when I know I am right about a fighter! To the mthafockin DEATH!! and more times then not I am right. I like to identify hot young fighters before their meteoric rise, let you all laugh at me…and then come on this site like a proud papa and sit back and listen to all you fickle fockers that slandered me for years, hop on my boy’s warwagon! Remember Thiago Alves? Remember when no one paid him any mind, and endlessly flamed me for trying to get everyone to bet on him KO’ing Karo? how that play out? Remember when cro cop was stilll invincible coming off a smashing of Eddie Canchez, and I promised Kongo would mau him? where is VM at, I think I actually talked him into betting Kongo that night and Kongo was an unknown who was getting beat up byy Marrero! We all know the Semtex, and Rua story.
If I fight with someone to the death on a certain topic, its usually because I am right 9/10 times. I am the first person to back out o a debate and admit that I dont know anything about the topic in question. But when I battle to the death about a specific topic…ITS BECAUSE I KNOW WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT!!!!! Just like I was one of the 1st to expose Forrest as a crappy fighter…people are finally starting to believe me..just like people are starting to realize that Mir is garbage! my next Crusade is to make you guys realize that Rashad isnt top 5! When I go on a personally crusade its cause Im 99% sure that I will be right….just like I promised Nogueira would beat Randy NO PROBLEM whether it was 2004 or 2009.
Of course there are few exceptions to my rule, like when Bisping got a whole punched through his head by Hendo, or Alves losing to GSP….but more times then not I am right, and when I am wrong its cause I am picking the underdog. I dont usually mess up when I guarentee a favorite will win!
-The mma GOspel of john!
notice I dont talk down to people any more. If I think someone is a troll, or doesnt know mma as well as I do, I simply dont respond to them…unless they ask questions. I will never deny a fan a chance to educate themselves on my beloved sport! Always happy to help a fellow fan!

My prediction:
Small feeling out period. Daley catches Condit. Not huge but enough to get his attention. Condit shoots. Daley sprawls and stuffs the takedown. They clinch. Condit sweeps Daley. Condit in full mount. Daley gives him an arm. Daley taps.

I still havent given the link to ANYONE on this site…Im kind of self consious about putting myself out there and giving people more fuel to bash me, and get me away from talking about mma…I was kind of trying to be annonymous about my work but you guys are my mma family so I shouldnt not share it with you guys, just so a few trolls wont talk crap to me about it…Keep in mind, its really new, its a work in progress. Few college buddies, with website knowledge wanted to do it, I dont really do much other then provide mma knowledge to them…They are pretty good writers, and I suck…so I basically just do rough drafts and they turn my knowledge into functioning articles that actually make sense. My partners also do know mma, so its not like its just me and 2 computer nerds.
Believe me, its nothing special, and you arent missing anything by not checking it out…just putting my mma addiction knoweldge to use. I will however let you guys know when I get an exclusive interview up there…but right now its slow, and I wont be able to get interviews that often. Keep in mind, I am building from te floor up, and its not even close to being complete. I probably shouludnt have even mentioned it until I improved it, but whatever. Its my baby, so please guys…Be Gentile! lol www.mmacrazed.com…unfortunatley I had no say in the name. i joined the project after it was already started and named!

exactly what I was wondering Jay! I personally wouldnt take the time to post under a different name, but thats just me!
by john G on Nov 5, 2009 4:52 PM EST up reply actions
This is my analysis:
Condit: Great ground game, great scramble, sub par stand up but durable, more experience in higher profile fights
Daley: Weak ground game (tho I havent seen it all that much, maybe its untested), same with scramble, good stand up, also durable, and much stronger than Condit
I see this fight being totally different than the Kampmann fight. I see Condit being smart and taking this fight to the ground right away. He will eat some shots getting the take down, but if he weathers those shots, I believe he will end up in a good position on the ground. This is where I naturally want to go with Condit, but like I wrote up top, Im not totally convinced that Daley has poor ground game. I expect Daley to be stronger and hit harder with the more accurate shots. I do feel that Condit will win by submission if he is able to weather the storm and get it to the ground. He will also need to be aggressive and relentless on the ground in order to expose the, possible, kink in Daley’s game. Daley has more than a good chance, but I believe that the experience and ground skills of Condit will get him through this with a second round rear naked choke or armbar.
by enzo-enormous on Nov 5, 2009 12:24 PM EST reply actions
I agree – NBK by sub. I actually think this will be a fairly easy fight for Condit if he shows up healthy and focused. Kampmann just had a terrible fight strategy for Daley, wanting to “prove something” by standing with Paul rather than making it an MMA match. That’s just pride f&ckin’ with ya, Mart.
Even still, I recall Kampmann delivered several clean shots in the exchanges, which doesn’t speak all that well of Daley’s boxing skills. He looked more like a brawler to me. Of course Kampmann took a lot more than he gave and I didn’t cry foul at the stoppage… but it’s not like Daley knocked him stiff or anything. And Daley landed a lot of clean, unanswered punches there at the end. Overall it was a very exciting fight, but I need to see Daley handle Condit his a$$ before I jump on the bandwagon.
by just some dong on Nov 5, 2009 2:21 PM EST up reply actions
I’m not saying that Semtex got lucky with Kampmann cause I don’t think he did…but I do think that Kampmann is the better all around fighter, and I think he can take Semtex a lot of the time. That being said, I agree with Daley’s assesment of Condit, and I’m taking Daley by TKO in the 1st.
