Blatant lies about the shoulder injury. Plus I really don’t understand why it isn’t a title shot. what happens if Sokoudjou wins? they gonna offer him a title shot against the guy he just beat? I know he probably won’t win but there’s always a chance. Sort yourselves out Strikeforce!!

GEGARD FOR THE WIN!!!

I never like to see champions in non-title fights, it feels crooked to me. Pride did the same thing and you had farcical situations like Aurelio beating Gomi but not getting the LW title. Thankfully Soko sucks so Mousasi should get an easy win here.

by David W-S on Nov 5, 2009 8:17 AM EST up reply actions

And then having Gomi win the title rematch by split decision or something, right?

This should count as a title fight. Its taking away from Gegard’s reputation for consecutive title defenses. And I would say Soko is a worthy challenger for the belt. Why not? Its Strikeforce, so its not like their serious about it or anything.

by Synyster on Nov 5, 2009 9:16 AM EST up reply actions

i knonw Soko hasnt had much success since his huge consecutive wins against BTT fighters in Pride, but Soko is still a very dangerous opponent. He has some very heavy hands and punishing Kicks. Standing he is a very worthy opponent, but once it hits the ground, he gets outclassed! I dont really care if this is a title fight or not because Mousasi will win, and it wont take him more then 15 minutes to do it! Making this a non-title ight is the only way they could have fit MOusasi into this cards time slot. There simpky isnt enough time during the CBS broadcast for 2 title fights. There were only 2 real options:

1)Make it a non title fight so they could fit MOusasi into the time slot on the same card as his friend/training partner, FEDOR….or
2) Push this fight back to the december event and make it a title fight.

i prefer the 1st option! This is such a historic event, that I am pleased that mOusasi wil be a part of it! Title or no title, MOusasi wasnt going to lose this fight, so either way…the belt will stay where it belongs!

i am a little mad that SF couldnt outbid the UFC for Rogerio. MOusasi vs. Nog would have made for an amazing match up!

by john G on Nov 5, 2009 9:36 AM EST up reply actions

You’re bang on John G. Just trying to get one of their best fighters on this card by whatever means possible. I have no problem with it, and I’d rather they fit him on the card in a 3 rounder than wait until December to see him fight.

True, but Mousasi vs Soko is more a title fight than Shields vs Mayhem. I mean, Shields is a 170-er beating up 185ers, impressive, but Mayhem isn’t even on a winning streak.

I’d rather have Mayhem rematch Lawler, or Shields defend the 170 lb belt and have Mousasi’s been a title defense.

John, I dunno if you’ve heard, but the rivalry between T.Silva and Cane is done. Since they both are at ATT now, they’re all buddy-buddy now. Thiago said he’d rather find a way to share the belt (should he win it) then face Cane, and Cane has acknowledged that Thiago is way ahead of him in the ranks, and isn’t thinking about title’s now.

Good think Rogerio is going to seal the deal for that. Rogerio vs T.Silva would be a nice grudge match for a No.1 contender if T.Silva beats Rashad.

by Synyster on Nov 5, 2009 10:07 AM EST up reply actions

Fock syn! I wanted to see those two animals go at it! lol

Rgoerio vs. THoigo woud be an amazing match up! HOpefully it gets booked if they both win…but I wouldnt mind seeing Rogerio show Rashad what a top fighter really looks like either!

by john G on Nov 5, 2009 10:54 AM EST up reply actions

Sorry guys but I think it should be a title shot. You all seem really happy to see Gegard fight, but doesn’t it bother you that it’s a pointless fight against a can? (I like Soko but he has no chance)

by Spinning Fat Kick on Nov 5, 2009 12:30 PM EST up reply actions

Syn I think Mayham will shock some peeps on Sat.

by McArthur on Nov 5, 2009 1:28 PM EST up reply actions

agreed Intro and John…I would rather not wait to see Gegard fight again and am looking forward to it BUT what if soko wins? that wouldn’t look good on SF…would he get an immediate rematch? I doubt it

by McArthur on Nov 5, 2009 1:29 PM EST up reply actions

Why not getting an immediate rematch, Mac? It’s not like Strikeforce got many contenders for this belt.

Soko did very well in the tourney, I wouldn’t be surprise if he win this saturday. Not only b/c of his stand up but also b/c of his wrestling and GnP. That said I got to go with my boy Gegard hoping to see him utilize his new weapon, the elbows on the ground.

by Alpha Male on Nov 5, 2009 2:01 PM EST up reply actions

Alpha, the Super Hulk tournament is a joke, beating large cans like Nortje and Sapp isn’t something to be proud of, especially when you attack them after the fight. The only proper fight from that tournament was going to be Gegard-Soko, and even then it should be an easy win for Mousasi if he takes down Soko. Hopefully Minowaman can pull off the upset, so Soko loses both fights can’t stand that arrogant, overrated tosser.

by David W-S on Nov 5, 2009 2:55 PM EST up reply actions

exactly Alph…there isn’t many contenders for his belt…by that rational, will anyone get a title shot or will they just fight Gegard while we assume he’ll win. You fight the champ and win, you deserve the gold period.

by McArthur on Nov 5, 2009 2:58 PM EST up reply actions

Soko’s antics were pretty disguisting when he beat Nortje and Sapp and really put me off him. On his feet he is extremely dangerous and skillfull and is every bit as good as Mousasi, but everybody knows he has no chance on the ground. Minowaman was pretty amazing in that tournament, and Michael Shavello cracks me up every time.

by Ade on Nov 6, 2009 9:59 AM EST up reply actions

if i had to make an educated guess, a 5 round fight would potentially disrupt their 2 hour time slot, and i’d rather have this card on cbs then have to pay $45 to see it on ppv. hey man, it is what it is. i bet the guys at strikeforce are doing the best they can. meanwhile you have guys like dana taking credit away from roy nelson cause he doesn’t kiss his feet. and he’s still butthurt cause roy beat kimbo. i’ll bet dana gave houston alexander an automatic ko bonus if he ko’s kimbo. same as shaw. and dana talks all that sh*t about him. turns around and is gonna do the same thing. don’t go hating on strikeforce unless you’re getting paid by ufc and zuffa. cause you know dana’s watching his back.

by PipRock on Nov 5, 2009 2:31 PM EST up reply actions

sorry, you guys already mentioned it. i can’t get how some people can have bad feelings about strikeforce. that’s where i get confused.

by PipRock on Nov 5, 2009 2:38 PM EST up reply actions

Why would the injury be a lie? Just because he didn’t go on and on about it?

by Kazuya on Nov 5, 2009 3:37 PM EST up reply actions

dont underestimate soko

Soukoudjou can fight…he’s a judo guy with great grappling that somehow morphed into this muay thai machine….but will he be beating Mousasi anytime soon…hell no…lol. Mousasi is a wrecking machine…standing, on the ground…he’ll destroy. He wrecks everything in his path with the creepy calmness reminiscent of Fedor. I don’t see that guy getting any real comp until he walks in the UFC.

I would have loved for Gegard to say “That Super Hulk bullshit was joke. I would have win anyway.”
Also, a good reply to this being a non-title fight would have been “I’m going to beat the Predator looking man anyway. My ‘anoos’ have more gas than him.”

$2000? WOW. My guess is that if he wins a few more in a row (which he will) he will atleast entertain the idea of making a switch to the UFC when his contract expires. Plus, there really aren’t many good fights for him @ strikeforce. He seems like the type that will want to fight the best.

by efisher on Nov 5, 2009 1:44 PM EST reply actions

There are some real good fights for him in the UFC.

In the 205 lb division, you’ve got Machida, Shogun, Rashad, Forrest, Tito, Rich and so on.

If, IF, he were willing to drop down to 185, he could square off against Anderson, and that might be the best matchup for Anderson the UFC could give him, then you’ve got Marquardt and possibly Hendo if he sticks around, which I think he will.
