HELP WANTED!
OK Maniacs, I need some info. Anybody know what happened to the PRIDE HW title between March of 2003 when Fedor won it from Nog, and Nov 2003 when Nog won the interim title in a bout with CroCop? Why were the Fujita and Goodrige fights non-title and why was an interim title created?
by shonuff on Nov 4, 2009 12:35 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Can’t remember. One of the Nog/Fedor fights was ruled a NC, but it was tournament and wasn’t a title fight.
by OJR Is King (formerly Introvert) on Nov 4, 2009 12:40 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
fedor beat nog then was supposed to fight crocop but broke his hand so they had an interim between crocop vs. big nog! fedor went on 2 beat him 2 more times after that
by d*locc on Nov 4, 2009 1:09 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
well he didn’t beat Nog 2 more times, just once. The second fight was a NC. But what happened to the belt in between? I could see maybe the Goodridge fight being non-title because it was in a tournament and had different round limits, but why was the Fujita fight not for the title??

This was hands down a better production than any countdown show the UFC has put together. 24/7 is on a whole different level though.

It didn’t let me watch it as an embed anywhere, but on showtime’s own site I watched it fine. I’m from the UK.

ufc needs to take notes, that was a cool show… way better than any countdown ive seen, oh and… russian girls FTW! mmmm
by brendan on Nov 4, 2009 11:57 AM EST reply actions 0 recs
I disagree… Like Dana says “showtime is 2nd rate in everything”, Countdown and 24/7 are much better shows. How about some background on the fighters?
I do agree with the Russian girls tho!
by Fokman on Nov 4, 2009 12:29 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
How the heck are the “countdown” shows better? I do like the 24/7 shows, and if you think they are better than this 360 show I won’t disagree….but the “UFC Countdown” shows are not as good as this one, imo…not even close.
by OJR Is King (formerly Introvert) on Nov 4, 2009 12:36 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
24/7 is the best obv… I just feel that countdown give more information that one might not know about the fighters than this did. Maybe they will get better as they go but Ill take countdown any day over this.
by Fokman on Nov 4, 2009 12:46 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
countdown is definitely not as good as this 360 program. Without this show even coming out the UFC already badly needed to redo their whole “countdown”. 24/7 is obviously the best because its an hbo production. if the UFC could get something like 360 and 24/7 it would do ten times better

This video tells nothing of their FIGHT history or acheivements, only biographical info. While I enjoyed this peek into their personal lives, I’m much more interested in Countdown type shows that tell us their fight history and show us highlights of their fights. I thought the COUNTDOWN on Belfort was one of the best they’ve ever done. I don’t think a video like this will attract nearly the kind of audience that a few hightlight spots would. Speaking of spots, I’ve yet to see ANY commercials on CBS promoting this fight and I watch CBS more than all the other networks combined. Strikeforce is really dropping the ball on advertising this thing! I also haven’t seen any promos that show clips of Fedor’s fights. I thought he owned his own footage and could at least show the Affliction fights even if Zuffa tied him up in court over the PRIDE footage.
by shonuff on Nov 4, 2009 1:20 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Couldnt agree more… I was looking for some footage of their old fights as well. Fedor definitely owns his and Strikeforce does own Brett’s.
I have seen small 15-30 sec spots advertising the fights only during football games. I may only see one or two during 8 hours of watching football. I dont think they have advertised as much as they should be and I think the numbers may reflect that come sat. Remember that TUF really only does about 2 mil viewers(on a good day) without having Kimbo on it and now its averaging like 3 or 4 mil this season because of Kimbo(which is a little ridiculous).
by Fokman on Nov 4, 2009 1:30 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
ur wrong, ufc owns all fedors highlights.
by kevin on Nov 4, 2009 2:32 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
yeah this was dissapointing to say the least, not only did they fail to shed much light on the two fighters records or past opponents, they also used every tired cliche in the book.
countdown covers usally 3 matchups aswell, thats what makes it so good – this pales in comparison, i mean where were miller/shields, werdum/silva, gegard/soko?
Strikeforce had their best chance here to really hype the whole card, it should have been an hour show really and could have been freaking awesome but they missed the mark by a long way.
Rogers came across as a pretty cool guy, hard not to like his persona, shame its such a mismatch.
by Paniczoo on Nov 4, 2009 2:41 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Don’t you think this show is a little more genuine than the UFC Countdown shows? All those shows are is Joe Rogan and Dana White saying “this is going to be crazy, huge, best fight you’ve ever seen in your entire life, and these two fighters are going to come out and bang and leave everything in the cage….crazy, crazy, crazy!!!!!”
Every UFC Countdown show is the exact same with different fighters.
by OJR Is King (formerly Introvert) on Nov 4, 2009 12:44 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
I think thats called PROMOTING, not sure tho! I do think that thats what this show was lacking some real hard promoting.
by Fokman on Nov 4, 2009 12:47 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
I know what promoting is, you don’t have to YELL. As an MMA fan, I don’t need the promoting….do you? I’d rather get some insight from the fighters, and get a little look at some of their lifestyle, and day to day stuff. I don’t need a promoter to tell me over and over again the same old rhetorical “best fight ever…stand up and bang…leave it all in the cage…heavy hands…blah, blah, blah….”, it’s like a broken record.
That’s why the 24/7 show is so good…it’s not just promotion…it’s almost like a documentary format, instead of some promoter trying to sell you a fight. Are they all promotional shows?…yes. Do they all serve the same purpose?…yes. Is this 360 show and the 24/7 shows better at promoting the fighter instead of the promoter selling you a PPV?….yes.
by OJR Is King (formerly Introvert) on Nov 4, 2009 12:55 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Respectfully disagree with you. I got nothing out of this show, sorry I just didnt. Coming from you I expect the anti UFC stance and its all good.

“im still waiting to see Affliction splattered all over the UFC cage and around the arenas.”
Maybe Affliction’s waiting until M-1 is done suing their pants off first.

yeah nice one Fedor – suck affliction mma dry to the point that they die – then kick them when theyre down too you greedy bastard.
fedor – “fighting is not my passion, this is just a job to me” what you think of that intro? some hero
by Paniczoo on Nov 4, 2009 2:45 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
No shit a man that has nothing to prove anymore he can live off guys like intro lol. But really he and M1 are making more money than they ever have and don’t have to prove anything getting American money is like taking candy from a baby the great M1 hype machine has struck gold with all the wanna be hardcore fans that are easily fooled by his record.

im starting to like rogers more, unlike shane carwin and brock lesnar, he’s humble yet not about the fans just about putting on a show, without saying it’s for the fans 2 billion times before a fight, i hope grim wins this one he would make the ultimate underdog story..
though i don’t see fedor losing it would be cool to see grim winning

I think they portrayed Rogers very well in this show, and have done a good job with the “rags to riches” type angle in regards to his marketing.
I know many pro-UFC anti-everything else “fans” think SF would tank if Fedor lost this fight (ala Kimbo/EXC), and I think they are wrong. The reason you are all wrong is because Seth Petruzelli was unknown…Rogers is doing his best to become known and is an easy guy to like (easy going, down to Earth, blue collar guy).
Strikeforce wins whether Fedor does or not in this scenario, IMO.
by OJR Is King (formerly Introvert) on Nov 4, 2009 12:27 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
yeah that makes me laugh, strikeforce has been around before fedor and will be there after. and like you said if fedor loses they have created a star in rogers and one loss won’t be the end of the world for fedor either.
by roy on Nov 4, 2009 12:44 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Agreed.
If you think about the Kimbo/EXC downfall, it was basically a stupid decision to put Seth in the ring and that’s what screwed them all up. People seem to forget that Ken Shamrock was the original opponent for Kimbo, and he was the perfect fight for Kimbo (a household name). If Kimbo would have lost to Shamrock, I believe EXC would still be putting on shows (at least they wouldn’t have folded over that scenario…maybe for something else….but not because of a Kimbo loss to Shamrock).
by OJR Is King (formerly Introvert) on Nov 4, 2009 12:48 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
yeah, and seeing Kimbo’s ground game, Shamrock would have made a pretzel of him inside of 2 minutes.
by shonuff on Nov 4, 2009 1:26 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Rogers is big and strong, but waay to slow for Fedor. I bet fedor will finish him in the first round….. I am a little worried about Fedor’s transition from the ring to the cage, though.

This show WAS BORINNNNNNGGG!
Wow Fedor is gonna destroy this guy quick… This show makes Rogers look big slow, clunky, with no accuracy… Did you see how ugly his hand work looked when he was throwing his punches?
Compared to Fedor rogers looks sloppy… Did you see how quick and hard Fedor was throwing those low Kicks? GOTDAMN!
by drew on Nov 4, 2009 1:09 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
it wasnt no hbo’s 24/7 or even spikes primetime with gsp vs penn but it was decent.. man fedor lives so humble im beginning to believe that m-1 and his management dont pay him what he really makes
by nick jack on Nov 4, 2009 1:11 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
fedor is so humble yet once he gets in the cage he turns into a killing machine !! can’t w8 to see this 1. rogers is lucky if he makes it outta the 1st round
by d*locc on Nov 4, 2009 1:24 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
Notice how Fedor says fighting is not a passion for him, it’s just a job! I think the guy honestly isn’t emotionally invested in whether he wins or loses. That’s why he’s so cool and calm and patient and precise. Fedor is the true “Ice Man” of MMA.
by shonuff on Nov 4, 2009 1:29 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
360 is much better than that countdown bs with Dana’s ugly mug in it every five seconds trying to be a star.
by bn on Nov 4, 2009 1:34 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
Most of you guys on here are so clueless because evrything that Dana says you believe it. In retrospect whenever it is not UFC affliated it’s garbage, but if its in the UFC then it’s FREAKIN AWESOME!!!!!! Bull, good fighters are good fighters and good fights are good fights, and I am looking forward to this one.
by bn on Nov 4, 2009 1:38 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
First off the 24/7 shows are the vest un the biz, boxing or MMA HANDS DOWN! So we can end that argument right there. How can you not liek Fedor, everytime he does an iinterview he just comes off as the most humble and genuine guy on the planet. (HIS WIFE IS BANGING by the way)
I PRAY Fedor does not lose, especially not in his biggest fight in the USA, on NATIONAL TV on one of the best Sports networks on US soil. Having said all that, im scared Fedor will get caught by one of those crazy wild strong punches and lights out. I dont bet on ROgers winning,im not rooting him for him by any means………… but he pretty much can and i think will shock the world on Saturday night.
by manalito on Nov 4, 2009 1:52 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
no way. Rogers has nothing to offer to Fedor. Fedor by sub 1rd
by zheka on Nov 4, 2009 2:49 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
One other thing, how do they not promote the other fights? Do you realize how many fags know who Miller is do to that gay ass show he does! Moussassi is one of the best in the world as is shields. Comparing Fedor to Kimbo is totally wrong, but thats what is going on here, strikeforce is putting all there eggs into Fedor’’s hands…only thing is, casual fans knew who Kimbo was!
By the way, the reason the Fedor highlight was blurred and Rogers wasn’t, when Dana bought pride and made deal with affliction, he owns ALL Fedor footage, at least in the U.S. So they couldn’t show any highlights on U.S. TV! Just another “common sense” thing you guys missed!
by kevin on Nov 4, 2009 3:12 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
First off, I was quite bored at times during the show, but entertained during others. It’s tough to compare it to the UFC shows, they hype the fight more, this was more a piece on the fighters.
second, how is Fedor’s wife hot? I’m a huge Fedor fan, but you “I must love everything Fedor” fans are funny. She’s hot if you love thin haired unshaven amish women!
I think Fedor wins, but at $-1 odds, I bet 100 on Rogers… Just in case. My prediction, if the fight ends in first 2 minutes, Rogers wins, after that Fedor wins!
by kevin on Nov 4, 2009 3:09 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Rogers is the REAL DEAL!!! Fedor is going to sleep, in the first 2 min of the fight. I am sad to say I may no longer swing from Fedors nuts. Well maybe a little because there are so nice and warm and fuzzy. I will take up swinging from Rogers nuts soon once I get over my fedor nut withdrawal.
by John G on Nov 4, 2009 2:52 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
Anyone else notice Fedor has no ring to train inside of. I wonder how that will factor in on fight night. I don’t think Bret will win but..
by J bone on Nov 4, 2009 3:19 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
I think Fedor will throw some punches just to get the takedown and end this thing in Rd 1 with a sub.
by rydinlow on Nov 4, 2009 4:21 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
rogers is a long shot but he is probably the best fighter fedor has fought in a long time… im goin with the upset (mostly just cause im from minny)

What a great guy Fedor is. This really makes me upset to the Russian mafia is taking most of his money. All his family and friends are at risk is he leave M-1. It’s a shame, he has no other options.

I like how they made Brett Rogers look like a worthy opponent who has over come a lot though.
