i think this is more of a mismatch than people think, vera is going to be a fish out of water once randy gets him against the cage and starts beating the crap out of him

by brendan on Nov 3, 2009 2:40 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Randy although game in his last 2 fights has looked really old, slow and unable to take a punch…If Vera was smart he would come out guns blazing, then again this is Vera we’re talking about

by Robert(1) on Nov 3, 2009 3:56 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah, Vera has all the physical tools to beat Randy, but his head has been his biggest weakness for quite some time. I hope Vera KO’s him, but won’t be surprised if Randy bores us to death w/ clinch/dirty boxing against the cage all the way to a decision.

by LJ on Nov 3, 2009 5:08 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Vera had some pretty spectacular fights against a bunch of nobodies and a fat post-accident Mir. I would love to see him put everything together, because he has the tools to be great.

by PW on Nov 3, 2009 5:20 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I see Couture winning this one rather easily, which is to bad because I like Vera. Afterwards I expect to see COuture in a big fight at 205, maybe Rashad or Tito with the winner gettting a title shot

by ---Caesar--- on Nov 3, 2009 7:01 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Vera could be amazing! He cut his bones in the HW division, so Randy’s strength wont overwhelm him and take him out of his game. Vera’s speed combined with Randy’s deteriorating reflexes makes Randy getting knocked out a big possibility. Vera’s Greco background shoud hep him avoid being pressed up against the cage and getting Manhandled by couture. sure Sylvia was able to press him against the cage for 15 minutes, but Tim is a lot Bigger then Randy and Vera was out of that fight mentally as soon as he brock his hand in the opening minutes of the fight!

Not really a fan of either fighter. I do think that Vera could be great if he ever realizes his potential. I gotta go with Vera in this fight, especially now that he is training with Big nOg!

ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ comments are putting me to sleep with this “Couture is old” “Vera will own him” BS. Couture wins by complete domination; quit hating, the guy is a legend and at 46 years old still a bad ass, just be glad you get to see him fight live cause there isn’t much time left. When he’s gone you’ll miss him; just like you’ll miss Wand, just like you already miss Chuck whether you were a fan of his or not. Quit being punks, whether you hate the guy or not he deserves the respect, he’s earned it. As for me, always been a Randy fan, always will be, one of the all time greats; you ppl that call him overrated or bash him for getting title shots and WINNING those belts can go F*** yourselves.

by O damn he got caught on Nov 3, 2009 10:19 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

this is not hating on couture at all, i just see vera beating him, even knocking him out. i know im stretching a bit here, but he has a physique and tools similar to anderson silva. he just doesnt show it. i dont think nog is all that fast and he made couture look slow. randy cant exchange with vera. vera is toll tall and fast and way more technical standing. randy can only clich to the cage and vera will punish him with knees. i see a second round KO win for vera.

by Egads on Nov 3, 2009 11:43 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

You didn’t really just draw a parallel between Anderson Silva and Brandon Vera, did you? Hahaha, come on now.

by just some dong on Nov 4, 2009 12:32 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

O damn, randy’s inconsistency casts him out of the all time great list. Maybe an all time good but simply not great. I don’t think there is anyone who would claim he’s done what guys like Hughes, Fedor, Nog, Silva, ect have. Am just sayin.

by NameNotRequired on Nov 4, 2009 3:03 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I absolute;y despise matt HUghes, but I would never deny him being a legend! why? Cause he has successfully defended his title countless times. how many times has Randy won a fight as a champion? Maybe twice? 5 time champion, with only 1 or 2 title defenses? Not very impressive. Take age out of the equation, and you are left with a GOOD but NOT GREAT FIGHTER!

by john G on Nov 4, 2009 8:27 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Come on, guys! Look at the calibre of guys Randy has fought compared to Hughes!!! Hughes deserves HOF for defending the belt for so long, but if you look at who those defenses were against, only GSP and BJ would rank up there with the guys Randy has fought. Sakurai, Castillo, Riggs, Lytle…those guys were never on the same plane with Liddell, Ortiz, Belfort, Sylvia, etc.

by shonuff on Nov 4, 2009 9:15 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

John G,

COUTURE HAS MORE WINS IN TITLE FIGHTS THAN ANY OTHER FIGHTER IN HISTORY except Hughes, with whom he is tied. He has more TITLE WINS than Anderson(6), Tito(6), GSP, Chuck(5), Penn (4), or Franklin(3). RANDY is the most decorated champion in the sport, so get that cactus out of your ass and let it go, Bro!

by shonuff on Nov 4, 2009 9:47 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Also, you keep saying Randy only defended a belt twice. In fact he defended 4 times, 5 if you count Belfort III as a defense instead of a capture, since their second fight was really a N/C. That one and the Barnett steroid-DQ shouldn’t even be on his record as losses. But it doesn’t matter how many Title wins were defenses and how many were captures. What matters is who walked out with the belt. And RANDY has walked out of more fights with the belt around his waist than any other fighter in history. (tied with Hughes).

by shonuff on Nov 4, 2009 9:49 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

John G, regardless of defense or capture, the simple fact is:

RANDY COUTURE HAS WON MORE TITLE FIGHTS THAN ANY OTHER FIGHTER IN MMA HISTORY!!! (9 title wins, tie with Hughes)

That’s more than Fedor (6: 4-PRIDE,2-WAMMA), Anderson(6), Tito(6), GSP, Chuck(5), BJ(4), or Franklin(3). RANDY is the MOST DECORATED CHAMPION in MMA HISTORY, bar none! So pull that cactus out of your ass and give peace a chance!

by shonuff on Nov 4, 2009 10:12 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

sorry for the repeat, it didn’t post the first time, so I tried again and then the first one magically showed up. But get used to seeing these stats cause I’m gonna start throwing them up every time these haters like John G and NNR talk trash about Couture’s record.

by shonuff on Nov 4, 2009 10:31 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

ya true that- I think dana white is just hoping that Couture wins, and if he does win for sure he’ll get the next shot at the dragon… i think thats why they gave vera to him cuz theirs a very good chance that couture if he just gets a hold of him he’ll GnP his way to a win.

by Ricky on Nov 3, 2009 4:02 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Same here, Randy will be far too much for Vera to handle in the clinch, he’s going to get him against the cage and bully him around with dirty boxing and superior wrestling en route to a UD or a TKO towards the end of the fight, depending on how tough Brandon is to break down. Should be a win for Couture either way.

by David W-S on Nov 3, 2009 4:59 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

post of the month by O damn, mania send that man a t-shirt

by dia mette on Nov 4, 2009 2:22 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

i don’t see a decision in this fight, it will be straight domination from vera or couture depending on who can use thier gameplan

by sac165 on Nov 3, 2009 2:57 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Oh its going to be a decision allright, and a boring one at that.

by Lester The Pimp on Nov 3, 2009 3:46 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Well if Randy can implement his ‘bullying’ gameplan, then it’s a boring decision. Otherwise, if Vera can turn up the heat, then it’s gonna be a spectacular finish. Hope Couture doesn’t get punished. Vera still has a lot of question marks when it comes to mental toughness.

by Syd on Nov 3, 2009 4:20 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Wow, I’m kinda surprised that Randy considers Lyoto to be the top guy in the light heavy-weight division. I wonder if his interview was filmed before UFC 104. Or maybe he just meant top guy as the official holder of the belt.

by Simon on Nov 3, 2009 3:09 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

It was recorded pre 104 obviously.

by Lester The Pimp on Nov 3, 2009 3:45 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

yeah pre recorded because Randy has gone on record saying that he thought Shogun beat Machida 4rounds to 1.

Hope Vera destroys him!

by john G on Nov 3, 2009 4:21 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Anderson actaully said he thought Machida won 4 rounds to 1…he is the only one and slowly I’m rooting for Vitor

Canada is in North America…. so its free.. back to grade 3 for you.

by Mike on Nov 3, 2009 5:20 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Canada is really easy to miss, all tucked away down there.

Every single UFC event is free in Europe.

Well in Sweden atleast :)

wtf is canada?

My comment was a Simpsons reference, not an unwitting attack on the American educational system.

by PW on Nov 3, 2009 5:58 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I have 2 doctorate degrees and have gone to school for 26 years of my life in the US. I am embarrassed to say that I have never had a single geography class. My son is in college and I do not think he has either.

by DrPepper on Nov 3, 2009 6:30 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

How can you learn history without geography? Guess you didn’t take much history either. Vera will knee his way out of the clinch and Vera can wrestle. However, Randy will land some shots and this will be a 3 round war like the Nog fight….I hope.

by hatteras on Nov 3, 2009 9:33 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

But you can actually locate Canada on a globe, yes?

by PW on Nov 3, 2009 9:39 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Canadia is the mythical birthplace of maple syrup and Celine Dion. Just head for Valhalla and take a left at the first Hockey Pub you come to.

by shonuff on Nov 3, 2009 10:32 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Its free on spike relax. & no worries, randy will expose Vera as the over rated, & most boring fighter of all UFC. Man he can only beat nobodies & he usually gets booed in those too. Then apologizes & throws in a lame excuse topped off with a “but I’m pumped to get back in here & show you guys what I can really do!”

Okay we’ve waited enough, do it already. I call his bluff.

by Daniel worby on Nov 3, 2009 5:09 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Ooooo thank god… Gotta go with the Natural on this one guys and i believe Swick gots this one too.

by phat_E on Nov 3, 2009 5:32 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

just remember peeps, don’t forget to turn the sound off when watching so we all can agree on who wins it case it goes to a decision…

by dorobikoy on Nov 3, 2009 6:30 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

thats preety brave to talk shit about americans online.. wait a minute that it is easy u fukin coward

by phat_E on Nov 3, 2009 6:48 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Damn right it’s easy to insult people especially when they don’t spell properly or don’t know that Canada is in North America.

by David W-S on Nov 3, 2009 7:26 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

IF Vera lets his hands and knees go early he can TKO/KO randy otherwise hes probably just gonna get Gnp on for 3rounds.

by Khaos_Warrior on Nov 3, 2009 7:09 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Duffee injured for fight with Buentello…Struve amongst others possible replacement.

by jayshogun on Nov 3, 2009 7:31 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

randy has lost 4 of his last 6 fights, if he beats vera and gets a title shot it will be a disgrace to every single fighter in the 205 pound division…oh and last i checked hes on a 2 fight losing streak in the 205 pound division…

it would be an absolute discrace for this guy to lose 4 of his last 6 fights then suddenly get a title shot by beating brandon fucking vera….

by HellaHectic on Nov 3, 2009 7:33 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

You put Randy in with any top-ranked LHW or HW and you’ve got one helluva match. There is nothing disgraceful about it. I call it fun to watch.

by That guy is my hero on Nov 3, 2009 8:56 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

He’s your hero not mine. Randy does bring his A game for fights as we all know, it’s the free title shots that are disgraceful. I mean damn, if Chuck comes back and wins ONE fight does he get a title shot cus he’s everyone’s hero too? I am tired of finding reasons to hate on Randy but they just keep on coming.

by Vulcano on Nov 3, 2009 10:34 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Dude, Randy has beaten more UFC Champions than most of your so-called “contenders” have even met. And like I said, when Rashad and Thiago do better against Brock and Nog than Randy did, then you can tell me how much more deserving they are.

by shonuff on Nov 3, 2009 10:37 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Randys last 5 out of 6 were championship fights. In no way will it be a disgrace.

by robmania on Nov 3, 2009 11:12 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Randy has not done well with strikers that have reach on him which Vera does. Still Vera lost to Jardine so…
