TUF 10 Finale: Frank Edgar vs Matt Veach booked with Kurt Pellegrino hurt

H.I.T. Squad product Matt Veach will fill-in for the injured Kurt Pellegrino and take on Frank Edgar at The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 10 Finale from the "The Pearl" at The Palms in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Dec. 5.
MMAmania.com learned about the replacement earlier this afternoon shortly after news broke that "Batman" suffered a back injury during training.
More on this breaking news shortly.
TUF 10 Finale will feature a showdown between the top two finalists from the Spike TV reality show, as well as a light heavyweight war featuring Jon "Bones" Jones as he inches his way closer to contention against Matt "The Hammer" Hamill.

Why would Edgar agree to this??? This fight does NOTHING for him. He has everything to lose and nothing to gain. Now that Alves has pulled out of the Jon Fitch fight @ 107, I think Edgar v. Joe Stevenson on 107 would have made A LOT more sense…
by Reservoirdog119 on Oct 30, 2009 4:39 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
why would he agree? cause he is a fighter who wants to fight and will fight whenever and whoever the ufc tells him. Why not fight Veach probably and easier win for him and the same payday.

agreed with Reservoirdog119…its a no-win situation

dumb fight. this was supposed to be co-main event.

I agree w/ Mac and RDog as well. It’s really a no-win situation for Edgar. I do respect guys that will fight anyone anywhere, like Edgar and even Kos.

I like Edgar, hope he doesn’t pull a Koscheck.

what u “SPECTATORS” dont understand is fighters dont get paid fuck all, a pay day is a pay day. we gotta get paid. I’m not suprised frankie is taking this fight, although he deserves a title shot over fucking deigo.
by BMO on Oct 31, 2009 2:20 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Frankie has lost at LW, then decisioned Hermes and Sherk. Diego has won 4 straight, and decisioned Stevenson and raped Guida for 3 rounds. Frankie doesn’t deserve a title shot.
Frankie vs Tyson should’ve happened, imo
Winner gets a title shot if Gray loses to Nate.

then maynard should get the title shot cause he spanked edgar

FRANKIE DID NOT GET SPANKED BY MAYNARD WHAT FIGHT DID YOU WATCH.
by FRANK on Nov 3, 2009 6:14 AM EST up reply actions 0 recs
I agree with FRANK. Edgar did not get spanked by Maynard. Maynard came in with a game plan to impose his size advantage throughout the fight. As a result, it worked to Maynard’s advantage.
However, I believe Edgar should be fighting the top three contenders in his weight class by now. What it all comes down to is Frankie needs to get paid regardless of the fighter he faces, and hopefully within the future he will get a title shot.

If Frankie turns down this fight, then he waits another 3 months for a fight/pay day. He has already beat a handful of tough guys by decision. Now hes ready to get a big knockout or tko and show that he is ready for a title shot. Im saying with an edgar win the UFC should set up a rematch with Tyson. The winner gets Penn, who is gonna beat on Diego’s wierd ass.

RUMORED FIGHT***
KIMBO SLICE VS HOUSTON ALEXANDER AT ULTIMATE FIGHTER FINALE you heard it here first
by jmartinee on Oct 30, 2009 5:28 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Heard it here first? It’s been in the rumor mill for awhile.
by Ertz on Oct 30, 2009 5:37 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
If there is 1 fighter that Kimbo can beat (other than smaller guys) it’s Houston Alexander. This falls right into his hands. What has he done to deserve to have this fight hand picked for him. The UFC does not need Kimbo. So what if it’s an interesting slug fest, I can watch that on youtube while he beats the piss out of people at backyard BBQ or boat yards. I’ll be rooting for Alexander for the first time ever.
by BeerMan on Oct 30, 2009 5:53 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Someone came out w/ that rumor on here a couple weeks ago or so. If it happens, I hope Houston knocks Kimbo’s head into the 3rd row.

Don’t know a lot about Veach but he is 11-0 with one win in the UFC. Could be interesting.
by DolFan on Oct 30, 2009 4:39 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
This is outrageous because how suspect his win was. He got pretty much finished and the ref didn’t stop it but when Grice got knockdown on him fn Troy Waugh jumps in when he was recouped coming back. BS.
by NameNotRequired on Oct 30, 2009 9:25 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Don’t remember the fight but I’ll take your word for it. Good point NameNotRequired
by DolFan on Oct 30, 2009 9:44 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I remember that, it was a truly dreadful display of referreeing and cheated Grice out of the win. I’m amazed that they never gave Grice a rematch.
Edgar-Veach is even more pointless than Edgar-Pellegrino, after beating Sherk Frankie should be looking for a top 5 opponent so he can get a title fight, fighting a guy who is barely top 20 won’t do him any good as the win will be meaningless and a loss would drop him right down the rankings.

It seems like so many of these last minute replacement fights end with the underdog winning the fight. I might be wrong if someone actually compiled statistics but it really seems like that.
Semtex vs. Hitman comes to mind.

Paulo T. vs Kos
Henderson vs Cerrone (sort of)
by Synyster on Oct 30, 2009 5:44 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
semtex was a legit replacement. I had Kampmann winning and boy did he prove me wrong – he wasn’t an underdog, he was overlooked. But i’ve seen him on an off night too

How about the fact that he’s clearly counting on a payday. Forget the title picture, how about being able to pay his bills.
by D.O. on Oct 30, 2009 5:06 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
yea screw bills! you should try not giving a fuck!

I know Veach and he is a good fighter with alot of talent. However… Edgar just beat Sherk and has been around for a while now. With that said… WAR VEACH!!!

Joe Silva, Dana White this is POINTLESS!!!
Frankie is one of the best 155lbers in the world, what is Gray Maynard doing????
by torresiawarrior on Oct 30, 2009 6:45 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Having a rematch with Nate Diaz, the only guy to beat him even if it was an unofficial fight. Gray and Edgar fought not that long ago which is why that fight isn’t happening, although it’s left Frankie with some piss poor fights.
by David W-S on Oct 31, 2009 12:24 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
why fight veach he won’t get a title shot with a win over him

what the hell is happening around the ufc fighters right no? alot of them getting injured & alot of replacement taking place right now, like what happened to fight he’s supposed to fight somebody before that guy got injured and thiago alves stepped up, and now alves also got injured and forced to withraw.
“sigh”

i mean “around the ufc fighters right now”
not “right no”

This is stupid. Edgar is a title contender and they give him a no-name opponent. Pelligrino was worthy opposition but even he really was not quite on Edgar’s level. A perfect solution would have been to match Tyson Griffin against Florian or Guida and then the other one matched against Edgar. Even Huerta would had been better than Veach. A Griffin or Maynard rematch would have been silly right now. This only makes sense from the UFC’s perspective because giving Griffin and Edgar lower level opponents (Jim Miller is good but not A level) assures a number one contender other than Maynard. Very similar to what they are doing with Swick (giving him Hardy who is not A level)…this favors a win so that they will have an opponent for the title holder.

Ill bet you almost anything that wont happen!
Veach hasnt subd anybody that has a winning record and has never fought anybody on edgars level! If veach doesn’t get Tkod he will lose a unanimous decision.
by ItsNormlToSmokePot on Oct 31, 2009 2:22 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Dont think Edgar is going to get caught in a RN, which seems to be Veach’s submission MO.
But agree that Edgar deserves someone better (ranking or namewise) than Veach. One more SOLID win after this and I think he will be in line for a title shot. Think Maynard is up next once he destroys Diaz.
by WB on Oct 31, 2009 2:13 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Can’t figure how Veach gets this fight and surprised Edgar agreed to it.
by sudnvictory on Nov 1, 2009 12:26 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
agree its weird veach gets this fight, but dont hate on the guy for seizing a great opportunity to shoot him up the rankings. he doesnt have the experience against great fighters like edgar has, but he has great skills shown against grice, and heart which got him through the tko attempt and won him the fight. Edgar is one of my favorite fighters because hes exciting and veachs style is very similiar and just as exciting. i think no matter what its gonna be a hell of a fight to watch.
