Keep in mind the salaries listed above do not include fight bonuses, sponsorships, percentages and other unofficial payments. It also does not include deductions for expenses such as insurance, taxes, etc.

The total base fighter payroll for the blockbuster pay-per-view (PPV) event, which attracted an official crowd of 14,892 attendees and a solid gate of $1.9 million, was $922,000.

for those who missed my opinion on the fight. I haven’t been posting much, but am still trying to make unbiased rational sense:

I thought Goldie was more biased than Rogan, if you notice towards the end, Goldie is saying Shogun won while Rogan is hesitant! Here’s the thing you guys gotta realize, the fight isn’t scored as a whole, it’s scored round by round. I thought Shogun won the fight as a whole, but round by round an argument can be made that Machida won the fight. At worst it could have been a draw as some of the rounds could have been deemed 10-10. To be the man you got to beat the man, and I have no respect for someone who thinks thay are winning so goes out and tries to coast out a decision in the last 2 rounds. You need to put it on the line in any competition, neither fighter did that!

I don’t often do this, Kevin, but I’m going to completely agree with you.

I’m really surprised the way the fight went (and not just because Machida didn’t own Rua) because both men are coming off of back to back KOs or TKOs. I hope the rematch is more decisive.

by Mahde on Oct 27, 2009 7:47 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

yup, thing is, Rua hasn’t looked impressive yet in the UFC. I had Coleman beating him before the fight was stopped. I don’t wanna hear injury etc. I think the rematch may be a dominant machida win, Rua will press the action more and may end up getting KO’d!

by kevin on Oct 27, 2009 7:52 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Kevin— I think the same in a rematch. Shoguns chance to beat Machida was this last weekend. I mean, whats the odds that Machida loses 2 in a row after going untouched for 15 straight fights? I hope Shogun wins, finishes, and beats up Machida, but I’m not counting on it. If Machida is an underdog, I’ll be betting on him.

off to work guys, will check back in 10 hours or so, very interested to hear what you guys think! Bottom line, neither fighter did enough to win the fight…hence Machida is still the champ!

Watched it again last night with a friend who hadn’t seen it – before it started I asked him to pay attention to the fight and the commentary and tell me if anything was odd – the result: He was like “WTF” why are they ignoring all Machida’s hits and only commenting on Rua’s “awesome counters”?…

I watched closely, ignoring the dodgy commentary (though I doubt it, I wonder if they were pushing for the Shogun/Anderson fight due to lack of decent competition?) and to me Machida clearly won the first 3 rounds, 4 was a close one and Shogun definitely the 5th. Result – Machida win. A lot of you guys are totally off saying shogun got robbed, the judges were spot on.

I care what everybody thinks…which is why we are on here…..

by Robert(1) on Oct 28, 2009 8:30 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

so because the judges might not to there Job, shogun should have abandoned his entire strategy, rushed in and risked getting KTFO? please spare me that Generic line about how you cant leave it up to the judges. Fact of the matter is that not every fight can end in a KO or a submission. and when it goes to a decision its the judges JOB and RESPONSIBILITY to get the decision right!

Forrest taking Rampage’s title set the precedent that you dont have to clearly beat the champion. Challengers are allowed to win a close fight too! what do we even have judges for if they arent going to be held accountable?

Me, Violentmike, and NNR could have sat there and judged the fight better then that baboon, cecil people’s who always scored the fight the opposite of how it shouold be scored.

TBA is running the gauntlet there. Is it all in that order? Vs Smith, Lawler, then King Mo? Sucks for him. Worse than the Jardine treatment of Chuck, Wand, Vera, Page, T.Silva.

Johnny G- I predicted a NYE or SuperBowl rematch of Machida/Shogun. Either works for me- NYE will be a CRAZY SUPER DUPER MOTHAFUCKIN STACKED card, or I get that rematch on my birthday weekend. Can’t go wrong there.

Unless Brock’s fight is pushed back. I dont want Cock Lesnar on my birthday UFC PPV. lol.

I said a bad word, so stuck in mod. but if Shogun/Machida and Brock/Carwin are added to NewYears, along with Silva/Vitor, Shad/T.Silva, and Cigano/Gonzo, then DAMMMMMMMMMMMNNNN!!!!!!!!!!!

Go ahead and put GSP vs Swick/Hardy, and push back Penn/Sanchez on 108, move Cigano/Gonzo and Shad/T.Silva to 107. Milestone event for the UFC, all titles defended!!

I have to admit that I thought Machida was going to absolutely tool Rua. I paid my tab and left right as the fight ended b/c I thought Shogun had won (that’s not why I left, Hooter’s just has a horrible liquor selection and it was getting late).

by chefdaddy on Oct 27, 2009 8:18 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

But the thing is that Machida is the epitome of coasting out a decision. The problem is he’s getting rewarded for his ‘evading’… wait until we get two excelent ‘evading’ fighters fighting each other… try to judge that!

There’s a serious problem when 20000 fans (who cheered Machida) see it differently from 3 judges

by Baxter on Oct 27, 2009 9:30 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I thought Goldie was more biased at the end but only because he had Rogan orgasming in his ear for 5 rounds every time Shogun threw a leg kick. I got the sense that Rogan was beginning to catch himself being biased toward the end of the fight but he’d already convinced Goldie of a total domination by Shogun. Love Goldie and hate to say it but it seems like he just doesn’t get mma. UFC wouldn’t be the same though without his profound statements like so and so is such a dynamic fighter!!! I agree with you on everything else…close fight… if Shogun wanted it, maybe he should have tried something other than leg kicks the entire fight. Not that Machida did anything more but that’s why it was so close..

by H.I. McDunnough on Oct 28, 2009 1:18 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Rogan was most likely amazed that someone could compete with Machida besides Silva as he has said before Silva would be the only fighter that had a shot at Machida and was talking out of amazement more than what was going on making him seem biased to some but if you have heard what he has said about Machida I think you will agree he was more shocked than anything.

by Beaver on Oct 28, 2009 1:24 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

People mention Shogun coasting the final two rounds because he was considered up… funny how those are the two rounds that everyone gives him. BS on the coasting, BS on the decision, and like John said “don’t leave it in the hands of the judges” is garbage. The judges have a job to do. They need to stop letting geriatrics score the fights.

by ballhawkdawk on Oct 28, 2009 11:48 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

nice to see shogun actually make almost as much as machida. surprised rothwell made more to show than valesquez. also surprised at both rumble and zenko’s low salary. rumble is going to have to work out a new contract.
so did hardonk not get paid?? lol gets tapped out and makes no money, what a slap in the face. :P

New MMA Scoring!
1. Counter punches will no longer be scored.
2. Kicks to the leg or body will be worth twice as much if they only graze.
3. A poor facial expression at the end of the fight will deduct 10 points.
4. 5 points will be deducted if you are cut.
5. 5 points will be added if Joe Rogan has money on you.
6. 5 points will be added if you have ever fought in Pride.
7. The drunken crowds reaction at the end of the fight worth be worth 50% of your score.

AWESOME NEW RULES! This should make most people on here very happy :)
