Write it down: Alistair Overeem wants to fight Fedor in April 2010

alistairovereem.jpg

"I want you to write this down: Alistair Overeem wants to fight Fedor, April 2010. So write that down. (Asked where he wants the fight to take place) I don't care. Maybe in DREAM, maybe in Strikeforce. I don't care -- rather in DREAM but Strikeforce is also OK."

Strikeforce World Heavyweight Champion, Alistair Overeem, calls out the promotion's most recent free agent acquisition -- and arguably the top heavyweight fighter on the planet -- Fedor Emelianenko, after dispatching of James Thompson in 33 seconds at DREAM 12. "The Demolition Man" hasn't lost in nearly two years -- a win streak that actually began when he submitted Paul Buentello to capture the title back in 2007. The only problem is he hasn't even attempted to defend his title once since that time. Is 2010 the year Overeem returns to the states to defend his crown or will he continue to holdout overseas? Check out Overeem's post-fight thoughts after the jump.

Overeem, if you dont want to fight for strikeforce take the belt off. thats just disrespectful

by Carnivore of War on Oct 25, 2009 4:29 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

That was just funny. He’s still probly mad that Coker thought Vitor was gonna beat him up.

by NameNotRequired on Oct 25, 2009 4:47 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Fedor fights for Strikeforce, and Overeem is the Strikforce champ, but he wants the fight in Dream? haha. If there still a single person out there that doesn’t think Overeem is juicing his tiny nuts off?

If = Is

by naturalshadow on Oct 25, 2009 6:25 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

ya of course he would rather fight him in DREAM, cause they dont check for roids

by child on Oct 25, 2009 8:41 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Right here people. That if = me. If he was juicing why even take the chance of getting caught. Just give up the belt, after saying he couldn’t come to terms with Coker (to avoid suspicion so that fan boys stop the amsterdam roid trials). Not like it means anything in MMA (until fedor holds it) or as if strikeforce pays him more than FEG. He prefers fighting in rings, the flight to US sucks compared from Europe. He has a way bigger fan base there than in the states especially with the exposure from K1 WGP. fight Fedor in DREAM because that fight is inevitable within the next year. There simply aren’t that many viable top HW outside the UFC or freakshows for that matter. Also i’ve added up his weight gain from weigh in to weigh in since his first fight at HW, and it all adds up so far. Until i see that failed test, innocent until proven guilty – God bless america, you facist bastards, lol(that was a joke btw).

I’m English, we’re notorious for building people up then bringing them down, it’s in our nature. Seriously Overroids is an even bigger joke for saying that, he’s the SF champion and Fedor is in SF but he’d rather fight for Dream than SF. Even if he isn’t on roids (and that’s a big if) then he should vacate the title if he has no intentions in defending it, if he doesn’t then Coker should strip him. Even Cung Le gave up his belt, Overroids is becoming an even bigger joke of a champion than Cung and KJ. Pathetic.

Chances are Fedor-Overroids will be a good fight, but if it does happen I guarantee that it’ll be for Dream not SF, looks like the Japanese have tricked the Americans again. I bet this whole talent share was a ploy from Dream to get access to SF’s top talent like Fedor, Diaz, Melendez and Shields and have them fight in unification title fights in Japan, whilst sending no names back. SF are going to watch their top fights like Fedor-Overroids, Melendez-Aoki and Shields/Mayhem-Jacare take place in Japan and with that their profits go out of the window.

The Japanese are great at putting on exciting MMA shows and making the American promoters look like mugs, even the UFC get tricked by Pride with the Chuck-Wandi non-fight at UFC 63 and Chuck’s hammering in the Pride GP. I bet SF will be the next suckers, personally I don’t care as long as I get to see these top fights but if they all happen in Dream then SF will be in trouble.

Ah the good ol’ days of dana on his knees begging Sakakibara to co promote and getting played over and over. Well maybe after four years, strikeforce will have the money to buy out the DREAM tape library.

Hey losers. Cry in a thread related to your nut hugging. Don’t ruin other threads like 5 year old kids that didn’t get their way. Focus on the thread subject, i know it’s tough, but you can do it :)

I bet his roid ass wants the fight to happen in Dream.

by El Mexicutioner, Formerly The Mexicutioner on Oct 26, 2009 8:59 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

YOu guys are all getting upset over nothing. This fight will happen in the USA strikeforce cage. Coker has been very patiennt with Alistar letting him fight all over Japan. do you really think he is going to give up the best fight that SF has the potential of putting together and just hand it to DRERAM? get a clue. That fight is too big for DREAM, its too big for showtime. If that fight happens it will be on either CBS or a SF ppv!

i know I often agree with NNR, but thats just because great minds think alike. I also looked up his weight from fight to fight, and there is nothing strange at all. I wont flame him until I see a failed drug test! FYI: Fedor willl destroy him! Mentally, alistar would be doomed b4 it starts!

by john G on Oct 26, 2009 10:35 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Forget about a failed drug test, show me a test he is/was willing to take. Has he ever tested negative? I haven’t seen anything that says he actually passed a test in the last 2 years. I agree with the other posters, this fight will happen just not in the U.S.

by jay on Oct 26, 2009 1:37 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

why would Fedor, a strikeforce acquisition fight for dream?I know about their alliance but this is strikeforce’s money match. I echo the 1st comment. If you dont want to fight for SF, dont. You havent fought for them in 2 yrs anyway. That belt he has is a paper belt. The real SF champ will be decided by fedor vs grim

by big_evil on Oct 25, 2009 4:39 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Hmm… I wonder why he’d rather have the fight take place in Japan…

steroids!!!! they don’t check for them in japan

by nicholas mirabella on Oct 25, 2009 10:13 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Overeem is smart, by April the steroids should have completely got out of his blood stream. Clever boy :)

by DownUnder on Oct 25, 2009 4:51 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

That’s exactly what I was thinking.

The guy is also the Strikeforce HW champ but he doesn’t want to defend the title for Stikeforce. Makes a lot of sense dumbass. He is just so overrated. Get him to fight a legit top 10 HW and he will get destroyed.

by RicJay on Oct 25, 2009 5:05 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Of course it makes sense! Steroids aside, if you knew you were going to have to fight Fedor, wouldn’t you prefer to do it without losing your belt!!! If they fight in Dream, Overeem gets the payoff without losing his belt, which he will continue to use to promote his overseas fights until Coker strips him of it.

by shonuff on Oct 26, 2009 1:14 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

This is some hypothetical bullshit being spewed by the steroid junkie. Notice how he brings DREAM into the statement… why the fuck would Fedor fight you in DREAM, you fuckin’ cheater?
Overeem will NEVER fight Fedor in Strikeforce. He can’t. He’s a light heavyweight who decided to stack steroids. Complete bullshit.

by erba on Oct 25, 2009 4:51 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Of course he rather do it in DREAM, because then he can get all juiced up, but if he fights in strikeforce he can’t cuz he can get busted like Josh Barnett did.

I know it’s a remote chance, but if Rogers beats Fedor will Rogers get the title shot against Overeem or will Strikeforce write it off as a fluke and still make the Fedor vs. Overeem match for the belt anyway?

by split decision on Oct 25, 2009 5:36 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Let me tell you something. Grimm is going to have to KO Fedor because he could beat on his ass for 5 rounds and strikeforce probably wouldnt stop the fight. It would be the same situation as Kimbo in elitexc taking 45 unanswered head shots and them not calling it. If Fedor does get in trouble and comes out of it the second he stuns Grimm they will call it. Just watch.

by ASR on Oct 25, 2009 7:17 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

such a conspiracy theorist… the athletic commissions choose the refs and the refs choose to stop the fight, strikeforce or ufc or whatever has NO SAY in the matter whatsoever!!!

by ---Caesar--- on Oct 26, 2009 12:34 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I am glad that so many of us find it so obvious as to why he would prefer the match to take place in dream! This gave me a nice laugh though so hopefuly he keeps these comments up cause I find them utterly hilarious.

by DirtyHarry on Oct 25, 2009 5:57 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Overeem is A joke! Strike force should just drop his good for nothing ass so he can keep beating bums in Japan. Hell lets see Kimbo vs Overeem Cause he does not deserve a shot at a real Fighter. If he does fight in the United States again I think it would be A GRIMM situation. Stay in Japan jerk Off

by My Left Hook on Oct 25, 2009 5:58 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Well I’m sure Kimbo would love to fight in the city of Japan.

by MongoMan on Oct 25, 2009 6:58 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

He might as well fight Kimbo, he’s on the same level as Thompson.

by David W-S on Oct 25, 2009 10:35 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

overeem should get off the shit, man up, and fight someone who isn’t an ass-clown. in strikeforce. or give up the belt.

by stoner_control on Oct 25, 2009 6:24 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

People need to stfu with all these dumb ass comments seriously….use those tiny brains please, Overeem does not duck anyone and fighting in Dream is almost the same as in Strikeforce get HDNET already and stop crying about him not fighting on CBS/Showtime.

He will defend his title now that he has real challengers to fight unlike in the past when there was no one.

by Khaos_Warrior on Oct 25, 2009 6:28 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Have you looked at the records of most of the guys he’s fought recently.

Of course he’s not ducking them.

by MongoMan on Oct 25, 2009 7:39 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

He should defend his title when he’s told to or get it stripped. If you refuse a mandatory in boxing you lose your belt and the same should apply in MMA, no way would the UFC let someone hold onto a belt for 2 years without defending it while he fights in K-1 or against nobodies in Japan and Holland. Even Elite had the sense to strip KJ, though their other stupid decisions meant that they never got another champion as Diaz-Alvarez never happened.

by David W-S on Oct 25, 2009 10:38 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

he is truly most ungrateful full fighter ever he wins the title strikeforce lets him not fight in strikeforce for 2 years but not he talks crap about strikeforce what a piece of Sh*t

Who cares about fedor fighting anybody, hes a chicken sh&t, he fights B&C level fighters, mainly C and some people try to tout him as the best heavy weight on the planet, what a joke, get your a%& in the UFC and see how long you stay undefeated

by steve on Oct 26, 2009 9:14 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Check your facts, Bro. Fedor has SEVEN WINS over UFC HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONS, all of whom were ranked TOP 10 at the time, (most of them TOP 5)…and that’s not counting beating CRO COP when CroCop was considered unstoppable. Sure, he’s fought some cans/MWs/and freak shows in his 30 fights. But who else has more wins over top ranked HWs??? Answer: NOBODY!

by shonuff on Oct 26, 2009 1:23 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Some1 above mentioned that they would allow 45 strikes or more in a row to FEDOR before calling it? Well shouldn’t you? The man has never lost (a cut that should’ve been no contest but was a tourney so couldn’t be). If you’ve never seen a man out or even close in 30 fights how do you kno what it looks like? He gets no benefit of the doubt after all he’s done and been able to absorb?

I for one would FUCKIN hate to see fedor’s 1st loss come from a questionable stop! Ugh that would be awful

by Daniel worby on Oct 26, 2009 9:39 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

This is why UFC doesn’t cross promote. Strikeforce loses my respect for having champs that don’t defend their belts.

Overeem need to be stripped and forgotten f u c k him he’s not elite. I hope Fedor banishes him for MMA period.

by zack on Oct 26, 2009 11:39 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Fedor challenging Overeem for the SF belt is SF’s best hope for a massive audience and market share in the States. No way they’ll agree to let that fight happen as a non-title in DREAM. But it wouldn’t surprise me if M-1 takes the bait. Fedor is HUGE in Japan and virtually unknown in the US. They stand to make a lot more money off that fight if it happens in Japan. However, if they’re thinking long-term about Fedor’s future marketability, they’ll want to establish him as a champ on US network TV. At the very least, I’m sure they think that will put them in a much better negotiating postion with the UFC.

“I’ll fight him, but I’d rather it not be for my title.” ….hmmm who does that sound like???

ANDERSON SILVA!!!

that’s who! I have lost all respect for Anderson and his management for all their antics lately, telling Dana who should fight who and who should and shouldn’t be allowed to fight for the belt.
