I have never seen a rigged fight more then the dicesion of mahchida vs SHOGUN. That was the MOST set up decesion version version of a fgight that i have ever seen in my life I will never watch a fight again because of that out come. how can you ever feel that machida won tonight without thinking that SHOGUN won>

Like i’ve been saying all this time since this fight was anounced SHOGUN WILL SHOCK THE WORLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And he sure did. All you Machida nuthuggers can say what you want but SHOGUN won this fight period. It’s sad to say that this decision reminds me of what the UFC was soposed to be against of and that’s a boxing kind of bullsh!t result. This was clearly a SHOGUN beatdown of that bullsh1!t Mashida era crap. SHOGUN should be the LHW champ as we speak. I hope DANA sees this and gives SHOGUN a rematch right away. This is the bigest robery i’ve seen in MMA in my hole life, and I’ve been watching this shit since day one(UFC1

I am a Machida fan and I thought it was a bad decision. But then I thought it was funny that all three judges scAored three rounds for Machida. So I watched the fight again as a judge instead of a fan. I counted strikes landed and took into account my perception of their damage. Rounds 1, 3, and 5 were very close. I thought Machida won round 1 and edged 3. What stood out most was the biased commentating. I’m sad to say it affected me the first time I watched. Rogan is a Shogun fan and Goldy can’t think for himself so he followed Rogan’s lead. Anyway, if you give the close rounds to the champ, 48-47 is the score. We’re not used to seeing Machida take damage. He did tonight. Good on Shogun. Shogun was a Cinderella story so it’s easy to pull for the upset, but I’m not sure the judges got it wrong. Either way the decision went, we needed to see a rematch so we don’t have to get too carried away arguing this one. We’re getting to see them fight again and that’s for the best.

I don’t know why you give the close rounds to champion and not the guy who was being more aggressive

I’m not saying I agree with that philosophy, but it seems to be the majority opinion that tie goes to the champ.

Yea i hate that. Leave that sh!t in boxing. Give the round to whoever fn won it. I was predicting Machida to turn shogun inside out but i was way off. Shogun finally for the first time in his career fought in a technical manner. Keeping great stance, working the body, slowing him down with leg kicks. His work with Dida is really showing right now.

Punch, I agree about the commentary, even Goldie made a sly remark about Joe’s bias but was too cowardly and useless to go anywhere with it and went back to copying off what Rogan was saying. However, like NNR I think that the idea of giving the champion close rounds is a joke, I hate it in boxing and I hate it in MMA. Whoever fought the best in the round should win it, regardless of who it is. To me the champion excuse is a way to weasel out of controversial decisions and avoid making a proper decision, judges like that should be banned in both MMA and boxing, or else more Machida-Shogun and Froch-Dirrell robberies will happen.
In the last 2 rounds Machida could barely move, for the first time in his career he looked slow and plodding which shows how much damage Shogun did to his legs, right then I conceded the fight to Shogun and I was amazed when Lyoto won the decision. I’m a Machida fan but he lost that fight and I didn’t want to see my man awarded the win in such a cheap way, hopefully he can improve in the rematch, Shogun deserves an immediate one and it keeps the LHW division interesting.

You give the round to the champ because shogun tried taking Machida down and couldn’t. Look Shogun Was excellent compared to his last fight he was even better than in the Liddell fight. His cardio surprised me. In the end Shogun did not dominate Machida and thats what it takes to win by a decision if he could have dominated him then he should have.
by April on Oct 25, 2009 9:46 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
David, I agree for the most part. Biased announcing made it seem more one way than it was. However, I still think Shogun edged out a very close decision, but they should have both done more in round 5. I’m happy they are fighting again

I wanted MAchida to win, but was disspointed with the decision as I INITIALLY felt SHOGUN had one.
Was it a clear cut win if either of them got it? HELL NO!
I re watched the fight and simply put, Machida just outscored Shogun by punches.
They each threw an equal amount of kicks at each other, shoguns being more noticable…. but MACHIDA threw all the handwork, whilst I only seen a couple of fist throws from SHOGUn. The facts speak for themselves.
If your looking at who won the fight by the damage received/dealt… then you need to go watch some street fights without judges. If this was a real street fight…. no one would win because they are both standing.
Stop being butthurt and accept the facts and the scoring.

Hello everyone i am a Shogun fan even tho it didnt go his way tonight. He put up a good fight agains Lyoto but i’am not here to argue against the result of the fight as it was so close.
But i will say that i am disapointed in the LA fans well mma fan in general as there is no need to boo when you go to a event. Shogun and Lyoto went into this fight stuck to there gameplan and still the fan boo Lyoto cause he won even if they didn’t agree there is no need to boo one of the best fighter’s in the world be cause you scored it diffrent.
It is just really upsetting to watch all i hope is when i go to ufc 105 that this SHIT dosen’t happnen. As i fell it just go’s to show why other people say that us REAL MMA FAN are just a bunch of drunk blood thirsty idiots which i know a lot of people will agree with me here that we dont want to be looked at like that.
As the sport seems to grow i feel we will only get looked on more badly for it as the people that go to such events cannot be repectful enough of the sport and it fighters. Why is it that a select few give the rest a bad name it is BULLCRAP IMO AND I AM SICK TO THE BACK TEETH OF DRUNKIN FANNYS WREAKING THE REPUTATION OF THE SPORT IN WHICH I LOVE!!!.

i will nwvwe!!!!that’s never order a pay per-view UFC again…what a friggin rip off!!! UFC has turned into boxing – what a scam!!! Dana White has ruined MMA and ruined great fighters – Shogun won the fight – too bad Dana and his UFC cronies weren’t in the octagon – because that’s who Shogun really needed to defeat…because when it came to fighting – Shogun controlled the action (in a lackluster fight), Machita could barely walk – looked defeated, looked scarred and in the end had to look to Dana and the UFC to keep the title!!! Never again Dana – never will I watch the UFC – it’s other “REAL” MMA organizations for me – I hope the UFC never get Fedor!!!

Thats just one of many factors of why SHOGUN WON. HE was the one pushing the fight, HE was the one landing the most effective strikes, and what did Mashida do absolutely nothing SHOGUN WON with or without the mute button and everyone that isnt a Mashida nuthugger knows it. Mashida era my ass. Let the SHOGUN ERA begin!!!!!!!!!!!!
by TaPouT on Oct 25, 2009 3:02 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
all the exclamation points and statements like “everyone who’s not a Machida nuthugger knows it” says to me your still running on emotion.
For the facts in your statement:
Shogun was pushing the fight. Yes, I agree, but it’s subjective whether or not that should give him the close rounds. Some would say that machida landing more hand strikes while answering most of Shogun’s leg kicks with kicks of his own gives him the round.
As for Shogun landing more effective strikes. I don’t think that can be determined from bruising. Machida landed more head shots (not necessarily the face) which aren’t going to show up visibly.
Finally, what did Machida do? He stuffed every takedown. He answered body kicks with kicks of his own. He mixed knees, elbows, hands, and kicks.
Was I impressed with Machida tonight, no. He seemed off his game. Was I impressed with Shogun, yes. He seemed like he had a great strategy and was in great shape.
Do I think this was one-sided. No. And that’s my logical opinion not my emotional one.
by Punch You in the Ovaries on Oct 25, 2009 3:13 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
The fact of the matter is that SHOGUN won this fight ,Machidas hand strikes didnt do as much damage as the counter leg kicks to the body and legs SHOGUN landed. As for Mashida stuffing the takedowns, thats all he really did but that really isnt enough to win a round or fight, at least SHOGUN went for the takedowns instead of just stuffing them. Just look at Machidas face(and body while youre at it) and tell me SHOGUN didnt land some good head strikes. Stop being in denial.

Machida did win, and everyone who thought Shogun won was brainwashed by Rogan’s biased commentary. This is not a conspiracy all three judges scored a Machida victory- it wasn’t even a split decision, so all you gamblers who didn’t win a lot of money betting on Shogun CRY CRY!!!! Hard work makes you money- so eat it!!!

Totally agree. If you were to watch the fight with the television on mute (so you couldn’t hear rogan choking on Shogun’s nutsack), this would have been a much tougher fight to call. Do I think Machida clearly won? No. Do i think it was close enough to go either way? Absolutely. Also, why do people think that the UFC and Dana White had anything to do with this outcome? The referees and the judges are an independent source. It’s like Dana said, they don’t give a shit what he says. If anything, i think the UFC is to be applauded if they give Shogun an immediate rematch.

Actually Cecil Peoples was a ref in the UFC and I think they also get to decide on Hamilton too. To think they can’t flex a little muscle is a little niave. DOnt get me wrong Im not saying its fixed yet but when I see the fight IN DEPTH and SLO MO for myself then I’ll give my official opinion, but there have been many questionable decisions in UFC history that have ALWAYS gone to the most marketable fighter at the time. Very suspicious to say the least……

DolFan…I agree about the compu-stats…I don’t think it was as big as a mismatch as people think. The announcing really factors into what is actually going on. I am one of those fans that thought Machida was going to rape Rua but I still don’t feel he trully won the fight. Like I said earlier also I do not think Machida defended with any urgency. Hopefully we will get a rematch with more then just leg kicks and occasional combos by both fighters….

I watched it in a loud restaurant and couldn’t hear the commentary. I think Shogun won that fight.
But I’m not believing the conspiracy theories, or grabbing my pitch fork and torch. It was a close fight. But I saw Shogun pushing the action, landing the more meaningful strikes, and doing the most damage.
Machida had that great flurry in the 3rd, but it didn’t look like he hurt Shogun or came close to finishing.
The dude had to keep changing his stance because his ribs and legs were getting abused.
by MongoMan on Oct 25, 2009 2:31 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
The more I think about it, (excluding the purely emotional posts), it comes down to if you think tie goes to the champ or tie goes to the aggressor.
by Punch You in the Ovaries on Oct 25, 2009 2:48 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
round by round go back and count shots. give more credit to powerful shots. There are three close rounds in that fight. It you call those Machida’s, he won. If not, he lost.
by Punch You in the Ovaries on Oct 25, 2009 2:57 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
And also why should being the champ give someone any special consideration in terms of judging? Being the champ is a symbol of previous accomplishments. The judging should be about the fight that is being judged at the time.
So to answer your question more directly. The tie should go to the aggressor.
by MongoMan on Oct 25, 2009 2:58 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Machida kept having to change his stance because of damage taken.
Again I never heard the commentary. Gave Shogun 2, 4 and 5, based on being the aggressor, controlling the action more (going for takedowns, pressing Machida against the cage, going for the clinch), landing the more meaningful strikes.
Gave Machida 3, based on the flurry at the end being the most meaningful action in a close round.
Round 1 was a coin flip.
Look I like Machida, and a hate this situation. But it was a bad decision, pure and simple.
by MongoMan on Oct 25, 2009 3:06 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs

I agree with you kibbled. Only about 10% of people are able to do what your asking. That is, look at it unbiased and score it on mute. I did. It made a huge difference. I can’t call Machida the clear winner, but it made a huge difference to do what you suggested.

I was there (with a good view) so I didn’t hear any of the commentary…everyone by me thought shogun won as did I. It seemed that machida won rounds 1 and 3 while shogun seemed to take 2 and 4, the tie breaker for us was round 5 which shogun I think clearly won. But it was a hard one to judge. For the most part I gave shogun rounds 2 and 4 because he was being more aggressive, not necessarily because he was clearly winning the round, sometimes it looked rather even but the tie breaker should always be who is more aggressive

This will be the last UFC fight I ever order. I have been to 13 events and will not attend another. Shogun won hands down. During exchanges Machida was not landing anything clean. Shogun was. I was a Machida fan, when you lose, man up and admit…“tonight I was outfought”. A re-match will have Shogun pushing forward to “prove” his win and he will get caught with a lucky shot. There is no way to beat the politics and marketing in the UFC of today.

I dont even think i have to say anything, but i will. I am the biggest Shogun fan. Its not Machidas fault, even he knew he lost. Tonight, i feel robbed. I dont give a shit if yall call me gay or whatever, but i shed a tear tonight, the first time ever over a fight. This is on the real and i dont give a shit.
We have seen shitty decisions in the past, boxing, mma you name it. If people dont think that this is the biggest robbery of all time, then i dont even know what to say to them. I planned on getting on here tonight and typing up a curse word storm from hell, but i changed my mind after i calmed down. AM i pissed? yes, but im more sad and hurt and i feel like crap. I feel so bad for Shogun, the work he put in,to see him in his locker room in what looked like in tears, just to have his dream taken away from some idiot judges who should never have the right to work in MMA ever again. Cecil Peoples should be banned from all combat sport judging for life.
I was so upset that I vowed to boycott MMA for a while because i felt that it was the only true and honest combat sport left , but after tonight, im confused and hurt. AM i going to stop watching MMA, no im not. I love it, but something fied from me tonight for MMA and something was taken away from the sport tonight by some IDIOT judges and it will be a while before i can get hype for another fight. Thats on the real. Does the UFC care if i watch or not? Probably not, and its not their fault or Machida, I love the UFC, MMA and i even like Machida. BUt man, i feel empty right now. I feel like it will be a while before i can honestly sit down, order a UFC PPV and get hype for it. Why? So the clear winner can be robbed if his title again?
Dana, if you have any say over this, please make an immediate rematch. Well in all honesty, i wish you would overturn it because i dont think Shogun should have to fight again. He clearly won. He knew it, the fans knew it, Machidas fans knew it, and even Machida knows it.
Again, im confused and hurt tonight. I feel like we have all been robbed, not just Shogun, even though he showed so much class after the fight.

Sincerley,
a heartbroekn MMA fan

Karate does have it’s place in mma, it has nothing to do with the fight that just took place.
Judges do need a new pair of eyes though, as a Machida fan I think he won maybe 1 round. Shogun totally won that fight.
It’s nobody’s fault but the judges, blame it on friggin’ talibans if you want, but the only ones to blame are the judges.
Rematch will happen that’s for sure.

I think when it comes to Championship bouts, the fight should keep going until there is a KO, TKO or submission. Let them go round after round, someone will gas and lose.
I don’t blame the judges for giving Machida the win. Shogun did not do anything besides add up points on body kicks with no real game plan to get a decisive victory.
Machida fought the fight he normally does, but could not get that opening he was looking for because of the constant leg kicking.
Shogun did a good job of keeping himself out of harms’ way, but he did not WIN this match. You have to beat the man, to be the man.
by Mr Niceguy on Oct 25, 2009 2:41 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
The question has to be asked.
This is a sport, why should the champ have special privileges that give them an automatic win in the event of a close contest?
It invites the champ to not truly engage or put themselves in harms way, run the entire time and you won’t lose. Because you haven’t been “beat”.
by MongoMan on Oct 25, 2009 2:51 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Damn man I hope Shogun knows and can somehow feel that 99% of the people who watched the fight thinks he won it. The other 1% are the judges and the Machida fans who actually spent the money to sign up for karate and now feel stupid training with a bunch of 10 year olds and won’t admit their idol has lost. Come on Machida you know you lost yourself be a true champ and give Shogun the belt!

by stevia on Oct 25, 2009 2:57 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Dana has nothing to gain and everything to lose by fixing fights.
Machida did not score his own fight.
The judges…well. I just wish that they would be made available after the fights to the media. So that way they would have to answer questions about why they scored things the way they did.
It would help us understand if they are seeing different things than we are. Or if they truly are that retarded.
by MongoMan on Oct 25, 2009 4:12 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
The judges gave the win to Machida because it was smart thing to do from a business perspective. You people are fools if you think MMA is more honest than any other sport.
Dana White wants to make the UFC bigger than the NFL. It makes much more sense to keep the belt on an undefeated household name that did not lose by KO, TKO or submission, rather than give the belt to some no-name MMA fighter, that only hardcore fans of MMA know and appreciate based solely on points.
This sport will never be viewed with respect in the boxing world, if the belt changes hands on first title defenses back to back.
Shogun only deserved that belt if he won by KO, TKO or submission and thats the bottom line. Whine and cry about ROBBERY all you want. The only thing robbed was your “right of entitlement” to think you know more than the judges.

“The judges gave the win to Machida because it was smart thing to do from a business perspective.”
They “gave” it to him? You don’t believe he won?
“This sport will never be viewed with respect in the boxing world, if the belt changes hands on first title defenses back to back.”
Now there’s a bunch of people that believe it was rigged. I don’t personally. But how can this impression get respect from anyone?
“It makes much more sense to keep the belt on an undefeated household name that did not lose by KO, TKO or submission, rather than give the belt to some no-name MMA fighter, that only hardcore fans of MMA know and appreciate based solely on points.”
That’s somehow better than having a fan base believing the champ really got beat?
“Shogun only deserved that belt if he won by KO, TKO or submission and thats the bottom line.”
So a decision defaults to the champ always?
by MongoMan on Oct 25, 2009 3:30 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
The Champion does not have to beat the contender. The Champion’s job is to RETAIN the belt. The contender must BEAT the Champion. Do I think the Champion should be held in a higher regard on decision victories? YES. IF you wanna make the title go from person to person like a venereal disease, then give the belt to any person who lasts 5 rounds. With that being said, I do think Shogun earned himself a rematch.
by Mr Niceguy on Oct 25, 2009 3:02 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
The flip side to that is that it allows the champ to do just enough to stalemate a contest to retain.
A championship is about past accomplishments.
The judging should be fair for both contestants, not skewed toward the champion.

Kayo, some people would find YOU to be the idiot for lambasting people for having differing opinions on something as stupid as a UFC main event. I believe Shogun won some rounds on points, but I do not believe Shogun DOMINATED this fight, nor am I jumping on this Shogun bandwagon. It was a close fight, but he did not do enough to win. So quit sniveling and get over it.

I don’t know what to think here, Machida didn’t look like himself tonight. Dana will hear the complaints, I’m sure we will see a rematch and it will be an epic fight.
You rarely see a company as transparent as the UFC, let’s not blame the UFC or MMA at all, it’s the judges and refs that did this.
I’m off to watch this fight 5 or 10 more times now, I gotta figure out what happened here.

If the contender is “that good”, he will not allow the Champion to try and pull off a stalemate.

All shogun had in this fight were leg and body kicks he couldnt take Machida down, he didnt really throw many punches, and he never had Machida in trouble at any point. I was shocked at the end because I felt watching it they would have given it to Shogun because of all the leg kicks he landed. But leg kicks dont win fights people, Machida was def. out striking him on the punching and landed some nice knees to the body that hurt Rua at some points.
So watch it again and think like a judge Machida had him beat on the punching but then shogun had him with the leg kicks and they both had good body strikes. But like I said before shogun never had machida rocked yes those legs were def. hurting machida but thats it really. At some points it looked like machida had shougun rocked with a couple of punches, so i would say that factors in alot in the judges eyes and why he won.
by MadCap3 on Oct 25, 2009 3:17 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
I agree Machida fought a horrible fight. But, if the Champion is not defeated without a shadow of doubt, he should not lose the belt. A decision victory leaves a shadow of doubt. Which is why I think Shogun deserves a rematch despite LOSING to Machida.

So when Randy beat up Timmy for 25 minutes? Timmy should have retained because he was champ and wasn’t finished?
by MongoMan on Oct 25, 2009 3:33 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Timmy was completely dominated throughout that fight and should have lost via TKO because there were times when he wasn’t even intelligently defending himself. So its apples to oranges on that comparison.

Lyoto won that fight but it was very close..He landed more decisive strikes when they engaged and he tried to finish the fight atleast 4 times..Shogun just peppered him with leg kicks but also received counter strikes from Machida when he attacked..Those leg kicks did some damage but Shogun should’ve attempted to finish the fight..He knew he wouldn’t be ablt to hit Machida in the face so he used leg kicks but to me they weren’t just decisive enough to win the fight. for those who have been to a live ufc event, are the hosts’ voices (rogan) broadcast to the audience? i watched the ppv, but scored the fight at the least 3-2 shogun, likely 4-1. i’m curious how rogan’s commentary affected my decision. i’m usually good about being objective and not letting the commentary getting to me. that why im wondering if the audience heard anything (because they sure as hell boo’ed at the decision too).

Some good things to come from this are that any questions about Shogun have been answered, and no one will be drooling over a Machida/Anderson Silva match now.

Dana White is happy now that he can sell Shogun vs Machida #2. It does not take a genius to see the politics/marketing. In addition, as ben pointed out earlier: why did Rampage lose his belt to Forrest? Answer: Forrest was the UFC, LHW golden boy at the time.
Machida is the new LHW golden boy, but the so called “Machida era” ended on Saturday night. We all saw Shogun beat Machida in a tactful manner. Machida’s face, ribs and legs are proof of Rua’s victory.

Someone said before even the fans in the staples center knew who won, ok so how many of those people are real fight fans and arent just going for a night out…These are the same fans that boo when fighters dont strike for a couple seconds.
And when randy fought timmy well that was a clear domination if nobody thinks the same i suggest watching that fight again.
