Looks like he’s rolling with a 170lb guy… maybe he should practice falling down
by Arnold on Oct 22, 2009 7:58 AM EDT reply actions
Machida trans at his family farm, relaxed in nature(away from everything) and practic with his brother and his dad and trans A.Silva….. Shogun is preparing for the body building contest and he’s rolling around on ground with no name 170lb guy..

yea its not like it hasn’t worked in the past…Shogun wins by knock out

NNR: havent seen Razak, other then when Cantwell snapped his arm of, so I gotta defer to you on that one. YOU TELL ME!!!
I like Tibau alot, but I question how he will deal with a Nasty, and aggresive fighter like Neer. I think Tibau’s onlly hope is to try and use his size and put Neer on his back for 3 rounds. I had big hopes for Tibau but he has been disapointing me! recently. Im really afraid to bet this fight…talk to me about this match up NNR!
I bet ZENKO!
I agree that sonnen has false value. I see the match up the same way as you. Sonnen with supperior wrestling but Okami’s brute strength will be too much. aso Okami is a very good grappler and impossible to submit…I see Okami spending most of the time oon top, and thhat will make Sonnen, USELESS! Bet Okami!
I see Joe Daddy winning a decision. Out of the two fighters I like Spencer more, but Joe now has Jackson in his corner, and I think he will fight smart which in this case is NOT STANDING with Fisher, and turning it into a grappling . Spencer is under rated on the ground, but thats going to be JOe Daddy’s world and I can see him controling Spencer to a decision win

NNR: I dont know what to make of the Rothwell/Cain fight. On paper, this is Cain’s fight but it could easily materialize into something different. Rothwell isnt the most skilled fighter but he is one Big, tough SOB! Rothwell went toe to toe with DRE for almost 3 rounds, and Cain hasnt really shown much 1 punch KO abililty, so I think it will be hard for Cain to put him away. I also have a hard time betting against Rothwell because this fight really means the WORLD TO HIM! I know Rothwell isnt the best wrestler but he comes from a camp that specializes in that aspect of mma, so he wont be a fish oout of water when its time to defend a takedown. Rothwell has been fighting for ever. Cain is far from a finished product that is projected to be special! This iis a tough fight for me to call…yOur thoughts?
by john G on Oct 22, 2009 9:08 AM EDT up reply actions
Cain doesn’t knock out Kongo and all of a sudden he has no punch…Cain is the real deal and will punish Ben this Saturday…..Shogun blows out his knee and people write him off and even accuse of him of roids even though he has one of the worst physical bodies ever in MMA….Shogun will prove alot of people wrong by beating Machida
by Robert(1) on Oct 22, 2009 10:58 AM EDT up reply actions
no punch and knock out power are 2 different things….Before AA and Big Tim, Fedor wasn’t exactly a ko machine! Cain has all the skills and Ben will crumble. Not one punch ko power but so what? He might not need it, his cardio makes up the difference
by Robert(1) on Oct 22, 2009 11:50 AM EDT up reply actions
Well by that logic every1 has ‘punching power’. Their fighters aren’t they? If you don’t have ko power ur not really gonna be utilizing those punches vs a slugger like Big Ben who will weigh 275ish for fight time while Cain clocks in around 240. Ben is Brock sized and loses 20 just to weigh in @265. He’s also got a much better takedown defense then Chieck ‘forgroundgame’ Kongo.
I have big Ben for a win that surprises most but not me.
by Daniel worby on Oct 22, 2009 12:21 PM EDT up reply actions
The Rothwell-Cain fight is an easy pick for Velasquez. Ben as big and experienced as he is doesn’t have KO power. He put it on glassjaw anderi’s chin several times without even fazing him. Cain has shown a very sturdy one at that. We can safely say that Ben doesnt strike with the power and accuracy of Kongo. I think Cain’s top game will be too much for him. He’ll tough out 3 rds but still pretty lopsided. Wrestling wise – you could see in the Kongo fight how technical cain is. He wasn’t using any kind of force to hold him. Just a solid base and alternating grips to pin him. Ben has been training with Duke rufous, pat barry and schaefer so i think he’ll come out sprawl and brawling but i think it will fail him.

Now onto Razak-Kingsbury. Both of them suck and haven’t shown anything except that Kingsbury taps quickly while razak doesnt. Razak looks athletic but he was so robotic everywhere that i don’t know. I think i might just stay away. I was thinking of adding another multiplier for a parlay but might be too risky since we don’t know anything about these two.
I am with you on the Tibau pick. He’s gonna outwrestle and frustrate Neer. Neer gets after guys standing then finishes them on the ground because he does damage but doesn’t pack any serious heat to put them away while upright. Tibau has shown a good chin and serviceable boxing to set up his TDs to get him on the mat. Especially because Neer’s TD defense sucks. On the ground, he’s got an aggressive guard Tibau slow pace will frustrate him and not give him too much space to work on the mat, i think Gleison can get the UD. But I don’t see too much value in the lines though unless you got him in a solid parlay.
by NameNotRequired on Oct 22, 2009 12:51 PM EDT up reply actions
I got Zenko straight, parlay with Tibau, Joe daddy Gromley, then another parlay of Cain, Okami, Hardonk.

Machida throws a left punch and shogun will fall like Thiago Silva…MAchida wins by KO…1st round.

What are you talking about, nobody has ever fought like Machida so how could it have worked in the past? Shogun plays into Machida’s style no matter what. btw not to disrespect senior Machida but if you read his interview he always is telling Lyoto to fight the wrong way. He says to go all out everytime but thats because thats how he and Lyotos brother fight. Its interesting because Machida is the only one of his family who is cautious when fighting but he’s also the only undefeated guy. Lyoto trains his style aggressivly with his father but when in the ring he slows it down, very interesting how that works and its also interesting to know that when he needs to he can just kick it into high gear since thats always how he’s trained.

I thought he was very aggressive against Rashad. BUt I feel that was a big part of the strategy as Rashad is a notoriously slow starter. I am willing to bet that going into that fight, the gameplan was to take Rashad out RIGHT AWAY!
Shogun fight will show us exactly how good Machida is. Machida has never fought a fighter of Shogun’s caliber so this fight is very interesting to me. Problem with being the east hit fighter in mma is that we dnt really know how he will react when he does get hit, and make no mistake about it…SHOGUN is going to TOUCH him! This fight will show us how Machida handles adversity. He will not hold onto his title Saturday without a fight. I have a feeling that Shogun will impress a lot of people win or lose.
Im also curious to see how Machida can handle Shogun on the ground. I think shogun has the best jits in the division, slightly above Rogerio which says a lot. We will find out how Machida handles the ground game and the clinch game because IMO, Shogun has the best Tai clinch in the UFC PERIOD! I think his Tai Clinch is even better then Anderson’s and that says a lot!
This fight is MOUTH WATERING. I think this will really be a memorable fight. I am expecting Rogerio vs. Shogun 2005 type of fight, and for those that saw that fight…doesnt get much better than that! I cant express how excited I am about this fight!
by john G on Oct 22, 2009 9:36 AM EDT up reply actions
Yeah I agree that Shogun is going to hit Machida. I have a feeling that Machida will not like it but I also think he will be able to stick to his normal game plan. I also agree that he was really aggressive against Rashad but Lyotos father said in the interview he told Lyoto that he should take Rashad down. IMO that wouldn’t be a very good idea, Rashad has refined striking but its nothing to be overly impressed about. His ground game however is something you have to be cautious of. Lyoto seems like he has a solid head on his shoulders so I would like him to actually stabalize the LHW scene by owning the title for a time to come but if Rua wins I won’t mind either. There are so many people interested in this fight, it’ll make Machida a must more household name if he wins.

Enjoy this fight because machida will be on the shelf for a while after this…He will be coaching TUF within the next season or two! UFC is going to turn him into a mega star!
by john G on Oct 22, 2009 11:05 AM EDT up reply actions
john I agree with your posts except the part about Machida not having fought anyone of Shogun’s caliber. The Shogun of old, maybe. But the present Shogun is probably going to be one of Machida’s easiest fights recently.
by jay on Oct 22, 2009 11:10 AM EDT up reply actions
I think a Lyoto/Silva TUF would be pretty awesome. There would be very little english but both are excelent fighters with very original training regimins. Anderson would have his guy dribbling tennis balls while Lyoto would have his guys drinking pee lmao. In all reality I am very interested in a Brazil vs US TUF. Not going to happen anytime soon but it would be amazing.
by Cogito Ergo Sum on Oct 22, 2009 11:47 AM EDT up reply actions
I can’t wait for 104. I find the Machida Shogun bout particularly fascinating and not because it’s for the title but because barring a few (Anderson, young GSP and a few others) you’ve got two of the most ‘true’ martial artists around. When we say martial artists we really mean it with these guys. You see things from them that are usually just reserved for the movies and they make them work. The way they use their skills is more representative of the true ethos of martial arts. None of the cuddle to a UD or pin them against the fence for the entirety of the bout.
What I’m trying to say is they haven’t watered down martial arts like some have. They make traditional martial arts moves work in an mma setting. That’s not a knock on other fighters but rather I like the flair styles they have lets say.

As much as I’m looking forward to this fight – is anyone else feeling a little disinterested with the UFC is going at the moment? I’m not even sure what it is I’m disinterested with! Maybe it’s the old guard all edging nearer retirement, the huge number of injuries plaguing almost every card lately, the introduction of Lesnar and all the Footballers in TUF – almost back to the old ways of big guy vs martial artist…
There just seems to be so many fights where I don’t really care about the fighters or the outcome! Too many fighters like Rich Franklin who aren’t good enough to win their division but don’t suck enough (yet) to be kicked out – instead they float around in middle ground limbo fighting other non-contenders… Bleh, I dunno, just feel the whole thing is lacking its exciting edge lately – and I’ve been following the UFC (and MMA in general) pretty much since it started.
by Jimrod on Oct 22, 2009 8:25 AM EDT reply actions
*edit – that first sentence was messed up – Should just read “disinterested with the UFC at the moment!” :D
by Jimrod on Oct 22, 2009 8:26 AM EDT up reply actions
I disagree, UFC has the best cards out there, Franklin is in a tough spot and should not get main event coverage anymore but that aside TUF has never been nothing more than c level fighters trying to actually fight for the UFC.
by Robert(1) on Oct 22, 2009 8:45 AM EDT up reply actions
I think as much as anything it was the last UFC 103 that really didn’t do it for me, I found it a pretty dull evening of fights – perhaps it’s the match ups I’m not really in agreement with. The previous mid-week fight night was awesome and was one of the best UFC events I’ve seen in ages. I think a lot of the fighters lately are lacking in heart and the “injuries” that they are always suffering from have always been there – just that the fighters were more “man” about it.
I think it was Chuck that said he’s never gone into a fight at 100% fit, which is what happens when you train hard – those kicks Jardine destroyed his body with didn’t even get a flinch from him, the last couple of events have had Franklin and Griffin fold easier than Christmas cards. I know they’re getting hit hard, I’ve been a kickboxer and Black Belt in TKD & Karate but look back at fights like Guida vs Sanchez (or Guida vs Huerta) and you see what it’s all about to be a fighter – grit, determination, “eye of the tiger”!!, Skills only get you so far…

machida is gonna walk through shogun very very one sided fight i hope i’m wrong on this i want to see a war but i don’t see it happening shogun is not the same guy he used to be
after shogun who is machida gonna fight? i mean really who can give him a fight at 205?
by TheDragon on Oct 22, 2009 9:32 AM EDT reply actions
Chalk me up in the “one sided” category! Shogun’s a good and exciting fighter! But, he won’t be able to figure out Machida or get his timing down before the dragon slays the slayer!

What I don’t understand is, if Shogun & the Dragon are friends, but they are professionals willing to fight eachother, why doesn’t Machida fight Anderson Silva?
by neeko on Oct 22, 2009 1:29 PM EDT reply actions
Man it funny how everyone is riding Machidas nuts lately. I can remember jsut a few months back before the Silva and Rashad fight, everyoe ncalled him boring, scared, and Kalib Starnes Jr. Now that he has 2 knockout wins in a row, everyone is riding his nuts like its 1999. Look i like Machida, and yes he has improved drastically, but everyone seems to forget who Shogun really is and alot of people arent giving him a chance at all. A fighter who was considered to be the #1 205er in the world. He has a less than stellar performance agaisnt Griffin and Coleman and everyoen gets off his train. Shogun is still a dangerous fighter and one of the most complete Mixed Martial Artists around. I beleive Shogun will beat Machida in what will NOT be an upset in my eyes. Shogun will have to show much patience and not jsut go in there and attack full force becasue Machida is one of the best counter strikers in the biz, and his cardio has to be on par becasue this fight i beleive will got in othe the 4th maybe 5th round.
Will it be easy for Shogun to win this fight? HELL NO! But it is going to be one of the best fights of the year, i truly beleive that.
After this fight, i can’t wait to see all the fair weather Shoguan funs quietly try to sneak back on to his train.

good post very true, and people forget machida has been taken down by bj,nakamura, soko so if shogun wants he can get him down.

watch the tito fight, another 15 seconds in the first round and machida would have tko’d tito
he laid back and dropped silva in one, patiently picked rashad apart a guy inwhich alot of you were saying was going to beat machida (uh just like you’re saying shogun will ) what happened in that fight??? ko for machida rashad landed what maybe 4 punches in a round and a half rashad is faster than shogun and imo has better stand up
by TheDragon on Oct 22, 2009 3:32 PM EDT up reply actions
lol rashad has better stand up than shogun, i don’t think so although rashad has improved his stand up alot.go check i always said rashad would lose that fight and i think machida is a great fighter and very well might beat shogun i just think shogun can win where you think this is going to be a onesided beat down well see after the fight. do you want to bet on the onesided beat down thing?

i will bet you roy i say it will be a one sided beatdown if im right just say im a god, then dont post for a month, if its a close fight i will do same
by dtoto on Oct 22, 2009 3:58 PM EDT up reply actions
Roy Shogun ‘s stand up is super overrated, he’s flat footed when he throws punches and leaves wholes for counters all the time, he doesn’t have a great sense of timing either he just wings it

well see, lestat we already have a bet on the fight so what are the details? i say if shogun wins you change your name to shogunnuthugger for 1 week and i will change mine to what you want. dtoto i will take that bet its a easy one show me a fight where shogun gets tooken out easy lol. make the bet work so it will fit in with my bet with lestat or just take on stinky.

How about you change your name to roymachidanuthugger (that way i’ll know its you) for a month and i’ll do the same for shogun , a week it’s too short. Unless you’re not confident in your boy lol
by Lestat on Oct 22, 2009 6:47 PM EDT up reply actions
roy what would you like to bet buddy??? shogun throws wild looping punches , look at his fight against chuck, he does that this time around he’s is done!
i’m no rashad fan by anymeans but i’m pretty sure if shad was standing with old man coleman and coleman was half dead (clearly gassed bad) in the first it would not take evans two more whole rounds to finish him it would have been done in the first!!! let rua come in wild and crazy against machida see what it gets him, KTFO that’s what
