Tim Sylvia agrees to FieLDS Dynamite!! debut; eyes fight against Hong Man Choi

Maniacs, calibrate your freak show radar!
Manager Monte Cox has given the green light for his client, former UFC Heavyweight Champion Tim Sylvia (25-6), to verbally agree to his participation in the FieLDS Dynamite!! event on New Year's Eve in Japan, according to MMA Fanhouse.
The tentative all-star line-up for the Dynamite!! 2009 MMA/K-1 hybrid fight card includes such notable names as Kid Yamamoto, Kiyoshi Tamura, Kazushi Sakuraba, Shinya Aoki, Tatsuya Kawajiri, Badr Hari, Jerome Lebanner, Alistair Overeem, and Hong Man Choi.
Make note of the last two names, as they are the likely opponents for Sylvia.
Cox gives his two cents on Sylvia's Japanese debut on the annual FEG-hosted combat sport extravaganza: He thinks that Hong Man Choi is a more judicious choice of an opponent than Alistair Overeem because the "Maine-iac" is currently on the comeback trail.
Since exiting UFC in the wake of his loss to Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira at UFC 81, Sylvia lost two consecutive bouts to the heavyweight king, Fedor Emelianenko and boxer-turned-MMA fighter, Ray Mercer in a total of 45 seconds.
He restored himself to the winning column with a first-round TKO victory over Jason Riley at an Adrenaline MMA event last month. Though he broke his right hand in the bout, the injury reportedly has fully healed.
Alongside the potential Sylvia-Choi showdown of the giants, the not-so-Hulk-like Super Hulk Tournament finalists, Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou and Ikuhisa Minowa, will square off the tournament gold.
In the K-1 department, the main event of the night will be the farewell bout for the two-time K-1 MAX champion, Masato against a yet-to-be-determined opponent. Masato is scheduled to face either the winner of this year's K-1 MAX tournament or his arch rival, Andy Souwer: The two are not mutually exclusive, as Souwer is one of the four finalists of the K-1 MAX tournament.

They’ve been goin back and forth but i think Timmah started it. He’s got this inferiority complex about MMA guys just having as good standup which they dont. Lebanner would chop him down with a couple leg kicks especially the way he stands on them with the knees slightly bent inwards.

thanks, I didnt know that…but agree that Jerome would detroy his knees. I wrote you some posts on the Shogun training video thread. Let me know your thoughts!

Hong Man Choi FTW! Best freak show in years.

After seeing him in officially the most boring fight ever in UFC history (vs Arlovski 3) I only want to see him in the cage to see him get KTFO. Throw him in against Overeem so we can see him get crushed and hopefully f*ck off for good.
Hong Man Choi has the killer instinct of a dead moose. This one has snoozefest written all over it.

Ever since the surgery on his pituitary gland, he’s become a docile cat. But he’ll have all the advantages that tim use to have and he won’t have to worry about real leg kicks or fleetfooted striking or slick takedowns/transitions. Should be an even fight i think.

i agree, hong man could easily beat him if tim is not ready. after seeing the shape tim has been in i would think hung to be the favorite.

by Nor Cal Mexican on Oct 22, 2009 5:30 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
hard as promoter to sign a guy who got KTFO’d in what 6 seconds? not to mention he came in over 300 pounds and the guy who ko’d him is a fat 50 year, past his prime boxer. timmy isn’t a bad fighter i just think he’s past his prime and should just retire

This has double knockout written all over it, and it will take 10 seconds for each of them to timber their way to mat.
has Timmy hit the mat yet after getting starched by Grandpa Ray????

I thought the match up between The Great Khali and the Big Show was the most even match up ever made?

i agree, i hope tim does well. two big monsters that can throw a punch standing toe to toe is always interesting.
if you want to see two monsters who can’t throw a proper punch, watch spike t.v. on wed. night.

Timmy has alot of haters for a fighter that has a record of 25-6 and has proven himself to be one of the best heavyweights in the world. I’m sure he will goto Japan and Destroy Choi, and make a return to north america for Strikeforce in the new year. Tim Sylvia isn’t done yet folks, get your popcorn ready

Yeh man, Sylvia aint done yet. He can put on a good show, ok not all the time, but when he does, its usually quite exciting.
His luck will prob go like this -
Blasted across the ring by Choi (Choi would definitely be able to work his game against Big Tim).
Prob put a beating on Overeem, which would fuck up the whole strikeforce ladder.
Fedor would be waiting around like a floppy cock for a so called champ who (assuming) just got KO’d by Timmy.
Big Tim loves to bring the upset, so dont be shocked to see Overeem go down if that shit ever happens.

He had some of the worst fights in UFC history against Arlovski (3), Monson and Vera, and left the UFC supposedly to take big fights then after getting slaughtered by Fedor he lost to Ray Mercer, a fat 50 year old boxer who couldn’t even get licensed, in 10 seconds after coming in woefully out of shape. Now he’s ducking Overroids to fight a joke opponent in Choi, who barely moves these days and was just submitted by Minowaman in his last fight. Sylvia is done and is only taking fights against freaks and cans, even worse he’s 1-1 with this type of matchmaking.

The funny thing is Tim will be loved in Japan.
by Doug on Oct 22, 2009 7:38 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Good, Timmy needs some love. I always felt sad for the guy cause he loved being champ so much but still never got any respect. He always gets treated like the ugly stepchild and it’s so obvious the guy is desperate to be loved. The japanese are much more respectful and kind to fighters. I hope he finds a nice home there and gets to take Bob Sapp’s place in Orange Juice and Pizza commercials.
