Cain Velasquez: There is nothing Ben Rothwell can do to me

Props: Pro MMA Radio
Quoteworthy:
"He’s a normal person, just like me. Whatever he’s willing to do to me, you know, I’m willing to do the same to him. [I plan on] controlling him on the feet, making openings, taking him down. Just beating him up real bad, and picking my shots and really exploding on him; Letting him know that there is nothing that he can do to me."
UFC heavyweight contender Cain Velasquez talks about his upcoming fight with former IFL champion Ben Rothwell at UFC 104 from the Staples Center this Saturday, Oct. 24. Velasquez is coming off of a unanimous decision victory over Cheick Kongo at UFC 99 in Cologne, Germany. However, the victory was a disappointment to Velasquez, who took more punishment than he and his coaches had in mind. The fight with Rothwell will be his seventh professional fight. Can the AKA standout push his record to 7-0? Or will he face "Big" problems on Saturday night?

I don’t think Ben will win this fight.
Cain will be too much for him. His pace will win this fight.

The Pace is what worries me too but if Cain takes a big shot from Ben its game over because all the hoopla about Cain’s chin because he took a punch from a guy who has never knocked someone out with 1 punch is bologna! I hate Cain mainly because I think he is an overrated Brown Supremacist lol, stupid ass tattoo. Cain could hump Ben all night and squeak out a win but Cain controlling Kongo (Mr. I can’t out grapple chips from a bag) and controlling Ben on the ground are 2 different things. I hope cain gets the BROWN knocked out of him both in the forms of shit and racist pride attitude.

I agree, but in non-run-on sentences. Rothwell trains at MFS, so if there’s anything he can do, it’s grapple. If he can neutralize Brown Pride’s LnP, he’ll be able to win on the feet.

If you’re going to accuse Cain of humping, you need to reconsider the charge and change it to rape…..Clay Guida humps his opponents. Humpers are generally content in just staying in their opponent’s guard, and trying to look busy. Cain is no humper, he puts an absolute beating on whoever he’s on top of. Cain may spend a good portion of his fights on top, but he is constantly working to improve his position to mount, and in that process he’s laying down extremely powerful strikes. Rothwell is going to get crushed by Cain, and it will be a very lopsided beating.

I agree KG (with me and JB), that comment about humping was just because I do not like the guy. Other than that I totally disagree, Cain has nothing overly impressive and I mean NOTHING! Don’t get me wrong he has a good wrestling pedigree but it isn’t anything that would dominate the weight class. It wouldn’t outdo Brock or Carwin and I do not think it would neutralize good BJJ like Mir and Nog and his stand-up is pitiful and yes so is Brock’s and Carwin’s. Difference is Brock and Shane only need about a 1/2 a punch to end it all. I might eat crow on this but seriously he has been coddled so far except for Kongo and Kongo is apparently about as sharp as a pillow because Cain has great wrestling and Kongo has great staying on his back abilities and he tried to grapple with Cain.

Is Cain ready for Carwin or Brock? probably not yet…..but we’re not talking about Carwin or Brock, we’re talking about Ben Rothwell. He is going to destroy this poor bastard. I think Cain has a huge upside. His wrestling is so dominant that it will allow him to keep piling up the wins while he’s developing the other aspects of his game. He also comes from a good camp. I’m really glad that they gave Carwin to Brock instead of Cain, as he’s not ready yet. He does have a ton of upside though, and i don’t see how anyone can dispute that. He’s young, he’s athletic, he’s demonstrated a good chin thus far, he’s a dominant wrestler, he has good cardio, and he’s agressive as all hell. I think this guy will be relevant in the HW division for a long time.

Brown Pride was in survival mode against Kongo pretty much the entire fight. He was getting murdered on the feet and had to resort to holding on for dear life in top position because Kongo stupidly went to the ground and got rolled onto his back like a turtle. That is the definition of LnP.
by PW on Oct 21, 2009 2:37 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I agree PW and I just don’t see Cain ever being a threat to to tier in the Heavyweight division, yes he has an upside but if he would learn some striking and drop weight I could see him being more of a threat, maybe. A lot of knock out artists and BJJ guys in Light Heavy. After the fog and media love around Cain subsides he will be nothing more than a gate keeper for the rest of his career. I really feel that way and I get proved wrong then good for him and his Brown Neo-Natzi mindset lol.

The fact that he was in survival mode sorta proves my point……I felt that Cain without out a doubt had his bell seriously ringing from the strikes Kongo put on him. It’s not often that you see a guy in “survival” mode totally dominate a fight, which is pretty much what he did. There could be no question in anyone’s mind who won that fight…and that happened while his bell was ringing!!! That was an example of running right thru a guy, and Kongo’s a pretty big fvcker. I probably sound like i’m a huge Cain fan, but i’m not really, i just think that the dominant wrestlers have huge upside. I guess the Brown Pride thing really doesn’t bother me that much either, as long as he isn’t coming down on anyone else. He seems like a pretty quiet, down to earth guy.

Clear winner according to the convoluted judging/scoring system that’s currently in place — yes. Domination — not a chance.
by PW on Oct 21, 2009 3:57 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
PW, nothing wrong with the scoring system for Cain-Kongo, Cain was the one doing damage throughout the fight and constantly passing guard. He came close to finishing that fight and fought smart by controlling and dominating Kongo on the ground. Cheick hurt him a couple of times but spent the rest of his fight flailing on his back like a fish out of water, getting beaten up by a superior athlete and mixed martial artist.

Also, i know that MMA math doesn’t really apply most of the time, but if Kongo were fighting Rothwell, i’d make Kongo a considerable favorite. Looking at what Cain did with Kongo, Rothwell goes down quickly. Again, i realize it’s MMA math, but i just can’t imagine Rothwell bringing anything that Cain will struggle to deal with. There are some good heavyweights that might expose Cain as overrated, but Rothwell sure as hell ain’t one of them. Not to worry, if i am wrong, i’ll be back to swallow my serving of crow…..

When it’s all said and done, BROWN PRIDE will come out on top.

He has a lot of pride in his country, so what? As long as his not bashing other races I support his “brown pride”. Just like Machida, Silva or Fedor, they fight with their countries on their shoulders.

And if for his next fight Liddell comes out with his mohawk, black nail polish and a White Pride tattoo?
by PW on Oct 21, 2009 2:34 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
The tattoo doesn’t bother me though it is a bit silly and a Mexican Pride tattoo would have shown his respect to his home nation as well as avoided the links to racial supremacy groups that his brown pride tattoo will inevitably be linked with.
I actually think most of the tattoos in MMA look stupid and the best fighters don’t need them at all or only have small ones, you don’t see Andy, Fedor, BJ or Lyoto with tattoos and GSP’s are small and not an attempt to make himself look hard. I’ve got nothing against tattoos but I find it silly when people get them done just for the sake of it as they think it makes them look tough, real hard men don’t need to act or look tough to be tough.

Last Time I check Brown is not a country. He is attributing it to Race not pride in your country, 2 different things.

Brown ain’t no country I ever heard of. They speak English in Brown?

HAHAHAHAHAHA… HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA…. HAHAHAHAHAHA FOCKING iron jaw that is funny! Nearly got knocked out by Cheick I couldn’t knock out a lightweight with 1 punch Kongo. Kongo is a great striker but knocks people out with punches in bunches, never 1 punch and it wasn’t a power punch at that, that Cain took.

I am having trouble understanding why Chael Sonnen vs. Yushin Okami is not on the main card or, at the very least, on the televised portion of the card being aired on Spike? Without Dan Henderson in the picture the winner of this fight should be challenging Marquardt for the number one contender spot. I know this has nothing to do with Cain Velasquez or Ben Rothwell but I just looked at the fight card and it caught my eye. For the record I believe Rothwell will come out victorious against the very overrated Cain Velasquez.

Cain is overrated. Ben better be careful tho, if he beats cain to a pulp, cain’ll come back with a gun or his gang.

Everyone watch the UFC 104 Countdown? What sense does it make to have a “BROWN PRIDE” tat when your father tried 7 times to illegally cross the border before successful, escaping a primarily brown country, to come to what was a the time a mainly white country. So he’s proud to be brown, but wants to get away from a brown country lol. If you’re in America you should just be proud to be an American.

Yes I also said “what was a the time a mainly white country” in my post. I know it’s a very mixed country now. I was refering to when Cain’s dad came to the U.S. back when it was still primarily white. Soooo stop rambling you mindless bafoon.

Racism is ok, unless youre white. ..if youre white you’re expected to know better.
by MMArt on Oct 21, 2009 3:46 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
True. Everyone is a victim thanks to the evil white man. We white men are all abusive, slave driving, discriminating Nazi’s.lol. Slavery being abolished had nothing to do with the white man realizing it was wrong. Obama being elected has nothing to do with white people not being concerned with race when selecting a candidate, and it wasn’t a primarily white military from the U.S./Britain that stopped the Nazi’s. That’s sarcasm obviously. 90% of white ppl including myself couldn’t care less about race, but the topic and the double standard is always thrown in our face. Annoying.

Yea all he can do is knock you out!! Cain is going to be put in check this fight and exposed for the overrated fighter he is!

I have to support Rothwell on this. It’s funny to come online here and see everyone all hyped about the tattoo. I always watch Gangland on the History Channel and must say that I have difficulty supporting someone that has a gang name tattooed on their chest. Regardless of whether he’s paying homage to them or not, that’s the definition of a poor permanent choice.
Regardless I agree with many that Cain will be exposed by Rothwell. Come on guys, Rothwell has had huge fights. He’s fought 2 former UFC champs, has a concrete head, and held a title in another org. What has Cain done? Is there a legit response to that? He beat Kongo, not a who’s who of the HW division.
by numberMUNCHER on Oct 21, 2009 7:20 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Cain gets sent packing! Loser! I can’t wait. He is so damned over hyped its sickening! Lol I remember watching the countdown for 98 against Kongo when dana said “they called me & said you need this guy! He’s an animal and will run thru everyone.” or something along those lines.
Big Ben will land some Kongo punches, and move when Cain falls like a queer kitten trying to paw @ Ben on his way down, then he’ll simply pepper him with some more on his way down.
Bye bye Cain!

“ooh he has a tatoo, he’s overated i hope he loses” god some ppl are soo stupid. How is he overated? he’s smashed every person he’s fought including Kongo. And someone said he was in survival mode the whole fight? what the hell were u watching, Cain completely ran through kongo. he got hit twice the whole fight. U can go ahead and hate him but u better get used to him cuz he’s gonna be here for a looonnngg time
by gman on Oct 21, 2009 7:31 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
False. No he won’t be Gman. Just til contract is done 2×. He’ll have 5 more fights. And I love the “he ran thru all his opponents including Kongo.” lol name his others? Plz? Ha ha funny stuff.
He put on a less than impressive performance against 1 other can on a fight night that Jones tapped out 1st round. But Cain is a big scary wrestler! And a killer! And a beast!
Nope he’s lucky he hasn’t faced any top 10er’s yet. Can’t wait til he does. Gabe would even run thru this guy
