Spider camp: Anderson Silva will be able to fight at UFC 108

Props: Terra Magazine
Quoteworthy:
"Anderson pulled out some pieces of bones damaged because of the use of his elbows along the years. It’s a simple procedure and he will start training in a month. The surgery took place two and a half weeks ago so he will face Vitor Belfort. Everyone wants this fight, I want this fight. I just think it would be at 88kg whereas Vitor just returned to the event. Be calm people, Spider will throw his web again."
Anderson Silva’s coach, Josuel Distak, is confident that his star pupil will be healthy enough to throw hands with Vitor Belfort at UFC 108, which is scheduled for Jan. 2, 2010. "The Spider" underwent a minor surgical procedure to remove bone fragments that had been giving his elbow trouble after many years of fighting. Like team mate Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, the recovery time is very quick and "The Phenom" should have his chance to do what no man in the UFC has done before him: Defeat Anderson Silva.

I’ve been a belfort fan for years, and a bigger silva fan recently! I’m anticipating this fight as much as I am Sanchez/penn

Pretty straight forward if you ask me- Penn domination and Silva domination.

still might be Anderson’s most difficult match up!
As for Diego, he is by far, Penns biggest competition at 155…
Doesnt mean I think anderson and BJ wil lose…just sayin…“know what Im sayin”

Vitor has plenty of heart, he just lacks mental toughness. He was 2 days away from fighting at middleweight, yet he was ASKING TO FIGHT FEDOR! Thats heart if you ask me!

All these fighters get the bone spurs/fragments taken out of their elbows and they say it is routine and no big deal. I can’t get the VA to do it for me. They keep claiming the scar at the tip of my elbow could cause more problems than the irritation caused by the spurs. Something tells me if I was a pro-athlete I would get a different answer.

Sick of him winning go watch wwe then. Not sure how someone can be sick of watching the most dominate fighter in the world but maybe thats just me
Prediction Anderson by murder

its not that im sick of him winning, i love anderson and think hes a stud, i just dont like anyone to be immortal(except GSP, hes too pretyy to lose and ill swing from his nuts like tarzan forever). i dont have a good reason for that, but it is what it is. just lose once more, both him and machida, then go on a crazy win streak again. who knows, if anderson loses one of his remaining fights on his contract, he might extend his career a little longer.
by Egads on Oct 17, 2009 1:36 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I agree, I don’t particularly dislike him but I do want him to lose at least 1 fight before he leaves. He’s a little cocky now and he needs to learn that no one is invincible. Also, if he loses then I don’t have to hear so much about him being the best p4p fighter which is really a stupid concept I can’t believe how much importance people place on it.
by frosnt on Oct 17, 2009 6:32 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Have you ever read any of the Silva interviews? He’s as humble as they come. He’s never said he was the best and said he doesn’t believe in p4p lists. I’ve never really seen him being annoyingly cocky
If I ever want to see him loose, it’d only to be so that 185 becomes more interesting again. But fudge that, can’t fault Silva being unreal

Andy is a showboater and that winds up some fans, personally I think that it’s great and makes his fights even more entertaining. Otherwise he comes across very humble to me.

how could u be tired of someone winning.. WOW UR A HATER. I think the better man should win and Anderson puts in work hasnt been proven to do steriods and is the best fighter in the UFC i want to c him demolish Vitor. Vitor is not a worthy opponent he has been broken by several fighters including Hendo!

you don’t have to be big, there are other things to use to improve on other things.
by RoBerto on Oct 17, 2009 5:36 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
are you going to accuse all quality fighters of being on roids? Andy is a world class athlete, he’s a big guy who has mastered the weight cut and is quality in every aspect of MMA, that is why guys like him and GSP are on another level to everyone else. The only people who’d accuse either of them of taking roids are jealous like you.
by David W-S on Oct 17, 2009 7:14 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
When did I say GSP is on roids? I didn’t because he’s not. When did I imply jealousy? I didn’t because it doesn’t exist. Well maybe a little because they get paid to train and fight while I have to do bullshit customer service, but other than that theres no jealousy from me. How about you quit trying to make assumptions to support your weak arguments?
Silva is on roids. Deal with it.
by jj on Oct 17, 2009 9:20 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I said GSP because like Andy he gets stick because he’s that good and people have to make excuses because they can’t accept his talent, that’s why BJ has acused him of being on roids.
Andy has passed all of his drug tests and come into fights in great shape, just because he’s big for his division and a world-class fighter doesn’t mean he’s on roids. Your accusations are unfounded and petty, if you dislike Andy actually come up with something better than he’s on roids.
by David W-S on Oct 17, 2009 10:51 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
argument could be made and this is a thing that many athletes have said after they’ve been caught. YOU can NOT hang with the top if you are not on something! that’s why we see guys who cheat suddenly become great and dominate, like Marion Jones did, Montgomery, Johann Muehlegg, Maurice Greene and all those other athletes. Some gets caught after years when their careers are over and some like my man Maurice Greene never gets caught. There was a cyclist in Tour de France i think it was last year that confessed after getting caught that he had passed atleast 100 drug tests, and sometimes they would inject or however you say “fill” his body with alot of blood the morning of the tests.
by RoBerto on Oct 18, 2009 2:11 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Fair enough RoB but if you’re going to accuse Andy of being on roids then you might as well accuse all p4p greats in combat sports as if success is the only argument you have then you could accuse anyone without proof. Considering the amount of weight Andy has to cut to make 185, I don’t see how taking roids would help him at all.

mybe vitor wont be asked to take a dive like henderson was in there fight I was there and it was plain as day. now henderson will be asked to fight the real champion fedor not the fake one the spider by the way that choke was a joke and after being told to take it easy on the spider why silvas nose wasent broke and would have koed by henderson in the first round the spider had no protection for his face for 180 seconds and standing did no damage in the first round the only thing he did was got one good knee in the hole fight I suppose you would say one knee was an ass kicking even when hendo gave him the choke there was not enough time to choke out henderson he was looking right at the clock when he on purpose gave him the choke say what you want I was there and evryone there knew it was a freaken joke I would take henderson every time over the spider every time

so hendo threw the fight?the conspiracy theories from you feeble minded half ass mma fans make me laugh till i cry.
you can’t handle the truth so you inject your alternate reality so you can deal with the fact that your boy got his ass kicked.
by samirpamba on Oct 18, 2009 10:14 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Are you really saying that Henderson gave and threw the fight? So did he try to keep things close with Rich? You know to not embarass him again like the Spider did. Let Rich get some confidence so he could remain in the game mentally. If Hendo is such an amazing fighter and knows he is on much higher plane of Mixed Martial ARts(that he can purposley give away the MW belt to the fighter who cleared out the division) why not just fight Nate and prove to the world that he can walk on MMA Water? I have been watching mma since 1993 and have seen a fair share of fights I thought may have been a little questionable, but that Henderson/Silva fight was not one of them and as a matter of fact you maybe the only person who I ever heard make that claim. Anderson has fought everyone put in front of him, unlike Fedor over the last 4 years or so who has chosen to fight Circus freaks and has beens-So how does that make him more champ then Anderson?

Wow! Not only is Anderson Silva maybe the best pound for pound fighter in the world, he is also a surgeon who was able to “pull out some pieces of bones”. Now that’s impressive. You are amazing Anderson.

Yeah, it is written in a way that would lead you to believe he performed his own surgery. Maybe he’ll bring a scalpel to the octogon. It’s about the only thing missing from his arsenal.

Anderson knocks Vitor out cold 100%. vitor doesnt deserve anderson and this one isnt goin to be close, as far as timsylvia4lyf said , theres nothin wrong with liking exciting fighters and fights and thats just what anderson gives us is entertainment so you can go suck on sylivas knob douche bag, dont ever bash anderson again if you know whats good for you

no way vitor get’s laid out cold, if anderson does catch him it’ll be tko. but my prediction is anderson goes down vitor will be the first person to hurt and finish anderson with punches.

Anderson Silva is just fun to watch, I hope he beats Vitor and 2 or 3 others before retiring with the belt. If he does that he will become the stuff of legends. Similar to how Royce Gracie was such a legend after leaving the UFC unbeaten. I hope we dont see a 40 year old Anderson make a comeback and get beat by some young punk that He could have dribbled around the Octagon in his prime.

well, we can go on all day about the quality of the wins vitor and anderson have had or how deserving vitor is of this shot, but now that he has it let’s just stick to fight predictions
by Jared on Oct 17, 2009 6:15 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Great news that this fight is happening, the elbow was getting me a little worried and I don’t want to miss out on this dream fight. Both are quality fighters, Andy is better in my opinion but Vitor is still a class act and the first genuine threat to Silva in a long time. If anyone beats Andy at MW it’ll be Vitor, with his handspeed, KO power, BJJ and new karate style he’ll be a match for anyone. I honestly can’t wait for this fight, good luck to both of them.
It’s been a while since Vitor has faced adversity so it’ll be interesting to see how he can cope if he struggles at the start against a legend like Silva, in the past Vitor folded against quality opposition but now he seems rejuvenated at 185 and this will be the most dangerous Vitor we have seen.
If Andy can smash Vitor then he has to be recognised as the greatest fighter in UFC history and be right up there with Fedor as the best of all time.

i like andy n all but he and his manager r kinda contradicting. they wanna say nate and dan havent earned their shot at the title, but agree to fight vitor at the flip of a hat, just cause vitor is going to fall into the spiders web. no it’s not rope a dope more like gon a pawn. well i hope their plan backfires and vitor comes out ontop. maybe he’ll actually agree to the fights the majority of fans wanna see.

I just want both of them at 100%……….Although, Henderson beat Belfort in the past, besides Bisping, he hasn’t KOed anyone in a while. Belfort has been laying ppl out in has past 3 or 4 fights. Hendo just needs to wait, if Vitor beats Silva, then he’ll fight someone he has already beat. If he wants more money, Go find more sponsors or at least take the fights that are offered to you. I’m sure Franklin doesn’t get too many problems with Pay with the UFC, he’s does everything they ask him to. That’s how it should be, you help the UFC out more, and its more than likely they’ll return the favor.
I’m ready for a new MW Champion, go BELFORT!
by merk on Oct 17, 2009 4:35 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
NOT an easy fight for Anderson! He may win, but he has never faced anyone like Belfort before. How can anyone think that this won’t be an awesome fight, if nothing else? Silva will not “walk through Belfort.”
Anderson is more precise, but Vitor is faster than him. That’s unusual.
Belfort is known for his hurricane knockouts, and yet he’s been a Gracie jiu-jitsu black belt since he was in his teens. That’s a new combination for a Silva opponent.
Belfort is a patient southpaw counter-striker whose hands are faster than Silva’s, and those aren’t lovetaps on the end of his lightning fists.
And did anyone notice how Machida-like Belfort’s stance was against Rich Franklin? There’s a reason for that. He’s been training and studying Machida karate with one of the Machida black belts. Count how many times Franklin missed him by an inch or a mile, to understand the new, quicksilver elusiveness.
There’s no one else like him on Silva’s records of wins or losses. No one. He is a dangerous opponent for the Spider, whether or not you’re banking on him to win, or you favor Anderson.
And just because it’s true and I can throw it in there for some Belfort appreciation to balance out this thread…how long did it take for Silva to conquer and destroy Franklin in both bouts? How long did it take Belfort to demolish him? Silva’s certainly capable of making quick work of some people, but Franklin can take a beating. Belfort just had to connect, and Ace crumpled. I think that deserves noting, however much credit you decide to give it.

I dont want this fight, Vitor doesnt want this fight he just wants to get paid. I think it sucks how Dana brought him, I still think the Franklin/Belfort fight was prearranged somehow, Franklin doesnt lose like that. Thats all I can say about it. This will be one of those super lame main events that just doesnt pan out. I honestly think there are only two guys out there that can fight Anderson and actually make it a fight, Nate M. & Hendo. The rest of these guys are just trying to survive and get paid. Belfort………phhh what a joke maybe he could fight Arlovski lol battle of the no hearts lol, undercard for sure!!!!
