UFC 108: Carlos Condit vs Paul 'Semtex' Daley possible for Jan. 2

Former WEC welterweight champion, Carlos Condit (24-5), is in talks to take on former Cage Rage 170-pound kingpin, Paul "Semtex" Daley (22-8-2), at UFC 108 from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Jan. 2, 2010, according to Fighters Only magazine.
Condit recently redeemed himself after suffering his first loss in nearly three years, a competitive split decision to top 170-pound contender, Martin Kampmann, at UFC Fight Night 18 back in April. The "Natural Born Killer" was able to somehow survive a brutal first round onslaught dished out by Jake Ellenberger at UFC Fight Night 19 last month to storm back and capture a hard-fought split decision.
The win over Ellenberger was more than likely tougher than Condit, as well as most fans, thought it would be ... especially after his undefeated (5-0) and dominating run with Zuffa's sister promotion.
And it's not going to get any easier against the hard-hitting British brawler from Nottingham, England.
In fact, Daley actually flattened Kampmann -- who had championship-contending hopes on the line -- in his Octagon debut at UFC 103 from the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas, on Sept. 19. The 26-year-old instantly vaulted himself to the upper echelon of welterweights after Mike Swick withdrew from the event.
He'll be out to cement that status against another top-flight competitor in the division. However, the submission-prone Daley will have to be very aware, and careful, of the submission-savvy Condit if he has any shot at walking away a winner on fight night.
UFC 108 is expected to feature a main event between 185-pound division deity Anderson "The Spider" Silva defending his division title against former light heavyweight champion Vitor "The Phenom" Belfort. Another former 205-pound champion, Rashad Evans, will also likely return to action against another Brazilian, Thiago Silva, in the co-featured fight of the night.

i said this fight wud happen in the last post, not like i want credit or anything, i thin k condit takes it as long as he does’nt try to stand too long..

stfu, anyone who has to post that they said this fight would happen before it was posted on Mania is looking for credit. Well here is your credit congratulations for reading it off of another website and posting it on here before Mania could verify if it was factual. And if your the only dude who was looking for Daley to fight Condit then another congratulations for you again, for being the only guy who would choose that Daley fight someone equal to or less skilled than Kampman was. Way to reach for the stars on potential match ups. Daley by way of ko in the first.

Condit disapointed me in his last two fights so I too don’t think he’ll last to the end of the 1st round.

MMA math been working out for you so far CES?
by wAyNe on Oct 16, 2009 10:01 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Who said I was using MMA math. I said Daley fought a similar fighter, chances are he’ll have a similar end… I didn’t say Daley fought random dude one and so did Carlos and Carlos lost so Daley is going to win. Being a jackass working for you lately?

I like The NAtural Born Killer’s Muay Thai, but I love Semtex’s power. That’s all I have to say about this match-up. It just spells detonation!!

This will be an interesting fight, I would have preferred to see Koscheck vs Daley instead.

This fight is the same as the Kampmann fight except condit can’t wrestle worth a sh!t unlike the hitman. Daley kills him standing.

u can flame me if you want guys but if daley does a number on condit he deserves the next title shot imo.i mean who else is there apart from maia moving down.
by scott on Oct 16, 2009 6:52 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
he’d only be getting a title shot by default…GSP won’t be back till 109, 0r 110 anyways…winners of Condit/Daley, and Swick/Hardy should fight for the #1 contender spot imo
by McArthur on Oct 16, 2009 7:48 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Someone should have to beat fitch or alves for the #1 contender spot. Hardy’s beat more cans than Kimbo – if he survives against Swick (which he won’t) then have him fight fitch or alves for the chance at GSP.
by Arnold on Oct 16, 2009 8:16 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
yeah but if fitch/alves win no one is interested in rematches.i like mcarthurs shout but theres no way hardy and semtex will fight each other.i think daley/condit should fight the winner of a potential alves/fitch rematch.in the meantime the winner of hardy/swick gets the shot and youve got a credible number 1 contender.just hope its not alves/fitch! lol

Condit always looks like he is smelling something bad or like he just farted.
by Ron Konkoma on Oct 16, 2009 9:25 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I don’t know scott, personally I think that to earn a title shot you have to beat some top contenders i.e. Fitch, Alves and Kos, even Hughes, Serra and Karo would be big wins in name alone so the casuals would be more interested in the fight. I’d like the winners of Daley-Condit and Hardy-Swick to have one more big fight before getting GSP, possibly against each other though Hardy-Semtex will never happen like you said, just as Fitch, Kos and Swick will never fight each other. Either the winners should face each other or if it’s the two English fighters have one of them fight Kos-Hughes (that fight is surely going to happen unless they’re both fighting cans) and the other get a title fight in the UK.
I’ve got Daley by R1 KO, he’s got much better hands than Ellenberger and he gave Condit fits. Daley is a much better striker than Condit and I don’t see Carlos getting the fight to the ground before being caught, if he does then he’ll submit Daley as he has sick jits off his back but he’ll be out before he gets the chance.
by David W-S on Oct 16, 2009 9:52 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
agreed david but theres too much of a chance that alves and fitch would win and i dont want to see a gsp rematch do you? same with kos.but i would watch a semtex gsp match.he hasnt got much of a chance but he could catch him early but i doubt it.ill go with u on daley/condit.i think iw will be the kampmann match all over again.1st round tko/ko.imo if daley kos condit in a round hes way more deserving than hardy.
by scott on Oct 16, 2009 10:10 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I think Condit gets this to the ground ties Semtex in knots. And Ron, that’s just a skinny guy mean-mug. CB “Hairlip” Dollaway fits the description you just gave.

Ron K, did you see the pic of Cain in the dethroneroyalty ad on this site? Also looks like he is smelling a fart. Not as bad as Condit but still pretty funny.

What difference does it make. GSP by destruction and humiliation with any one of them. GSP needs to move up. Would love to see him fight Henderson at 185.
by RamJ on Oct 16, 2009 11:17 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I think people are forgetting about Ricardo A. dropping from 185 to 170. He’ll make a much larger splash then Swick or Kampmann… even if he can’t get past fitch

SEmtex or another KO…Damn I love my boy!

sounds good to me..
if kampmann stands with him, he will probably get smashed on..
i think martins best shot is to take this one to the floor, if he can~
i hope they slug it out though.

Shouldn’t you be off reporting on other fights first before Mania can get them listed?
by Ron Konkoma on Oct 16, 2009 9:27 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Good matchup, it will be a good fight, I call semtex for the ko but it should be good.
by mma guru on Oct 16, 2009 1:40 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Sweet figh.Problem for Daley is if he cant keep it standing eventually he loses via sub, if he can though its nighty night for Carlos.
by Khaos_Warrior on Oct 16, 2009 4:39 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
condit has not looked good in the UFC so far… he’s durable yeah… but no superstar – Jake sheilds struggled with Semtex! I think the Americas are still underestimatng how good daley is – And he’s working relentlessly on his ground game!
Daley by round 1 TKO!
Personally I wanted to see Anthony Johnson v Daley!
by DanP on Oct 16, 2009 5:06 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
I think Carlos has looked great…his fight with Kamp couldve gone either way and was very exciting…I think he might have taken Ellenburger a bit lightly causing that fight to be close too…also, a very exciting fight
by McArthur on Oct 16, 2009 7:42 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Daley will smash Condit. Ellenberger had him in all sorts of trouble on the feet, but Condit pulled it back well to his credit.
If Daley keeps it standing though, his hands are on another level and he possesses scary power. Can’t see another survival and comeback from Condit this time.

Thats a handsome card…Stout/Lauzon will get bumped by a bigger fight IMO…
UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson "The Spider" Silva (25-4) vs. Vitor "The Phenom" Belfort (19-8)*
Main card (Televised):
205 lbs.: "Sugar" Rashad Evans (13-1-1) vs. Thiago Silva (14-1)*
265 lbs.: Junior dos Santos and Gabriel Gonzaga*
170 lbs.: Carlos Condit (24-5) vs. Paul "Semtex" Daley (22-8-2)*
155 lbs.: Joe "J-Lau" Lauzon (18-4) vs. Sam "Hands of Stone" Stout (14-5-1)*

I hate Condit but think he’s going to take this one easily. His stand-up is lackluster IMO and will look to take this to the ground quickly and submit Semtex. Look at the Semtex vs. Shields fight as a preview of how this fight will go.
Unless Daley catches Condit, he’s losing via sub.

Is it me or does Daley look like a messed up Mike Tyson on this picture?
