He is the best ever but the percentage of people that know that is very little. If you asked the average person who fedor is they wouldn’t know.

IDK intro. it’s a win/lose. If he wins and it’s a murder, no one will care. if it’s an epic back and forth battle, it could be water cooler talk, if he loses, it’s all done, he just bankrupted another company! The average fan who knows the UFC will still say he can’t beat Brock. Also, he doesn’t speak english. It takes more than a little bity of CBS hype to become the next T.O. or Ocho Cinco, as much as I hate both, the “Joe public” finds these types intriguing…just look at Roberto!

by kevin on Oct 15, 2009 6:42 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Kevin, would you explain to me how that would bankrupt Strikeforce? When Kimbo lost, EliteXC was already 25 million in debt. Strikeforce has NO debt and makes profit. EliteXC’s cards depended on Kimbo, while Strikeforce is trying to develop a stable of fighters. You underrate a great organization my friend.

yup exactly kevin even if he ended up going to the ufc and winning it would still take him a couple of fights before the average fan knows hes greatness

by Nor Cal Mexican on Oct 15, 2009 7:31 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Strikeforce does have debt… They took all of EliteXC’s debt when they folded. Strikeforce is depending on Fedor to make them bigger than they are.

by SnakeG on Oct 15, 2009 7:37 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

because look at what he wanted from UFC, do you think M-1 took less from strikeforce? they are putting most eggs into the fedor basket. Don’t believe the affliction payouts, it was widely reported the signing bonus Fedor got, he’s part of the reason the went under too!

SnakeG, I don’t know about that. I’m not saying you are wrong but that just doesn’t sit right with me.

SnakeG, that is an outright lie. The former parent company of EliteXC, ProElite, is still open. Showtime merely bought the EliteXC video library and some of their fighter contracts.

I will watch it. I wouldn’t pay for it, but I will watch it on free tv. Fedor is a great fighter, and if he wants to fight on his own terms, that is his choice. However, if he wants to go down as the best HW or p4p fighter of all time, then he has to fight in the UFC. At this point in time, I don’t even see how that can be argued.

Well I don’t know who Fedor is, LOL.

My stup!d neighbors here who are casual UFC fans actually pick Fedor when I asked ’em who will win in a Lesnar-Fedor fight. Does that make ’em knowledgeable? I still say no! Hahaha!

by The Negation on Oct 16, 2009 7:14 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

He is definitly a legend of the sport and one of the greatest ever if not greatest. Don’t get me wrong when I say this but I don’t think he’s the best now that just my opinion but it’s becoming more and more long time MMA fans opinion who have seen this sport grow. I know some of you Fedor fans will get all emotional when I say this but you have to understand the best eventually lose at some point and I think Fedor and his management are trying to prolong his record as long as possible only problem is to be called the best you need to fight the best and that is something he has not done for a long time and us fans are not ignorant that fact like his fans are.
If he came to the UFC and won every fight no one would be arguing that Rogers, Werdum or Overeem are better and thats a fact even the Fedor fans can’t argue. I was very disappointed when the Barnett fight got canceled because Barnett was one of the fighters I thought could give Fedor a run for his money but other than that there has not been a fight worthy of the #1 ranking and I don’t see one anytime soon.

by Puck Head on Oct 15, 2009 6:43 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

lee, I know what you mean, but he's slowly getting out there by word of mouth. It doesn't help, but you have to lol the fact that the UFC owns his pride and affliction footage so strikeforce has to market him based on reputation and training clips.

Puck-I understand what you’re saying, but your argument has a major flaw. You say that to be the best, you have to beat the best. So by your own standards, Fedor has to be considered the best until beaten.

by Diceman on Oct 15, 2009 8:39 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

No thats by the standards of the world buddy, the rule was always especially in combat to be the best you have to be the best, thats the path of a true ronin,a true warrior.Tyson didnt become the heavyweight champ in boxing by beating lesser ranked oppenents all his life,he beat champions to become a champion.GSP wasnt considered the baddest welteweight on the planet by beating Mayhem Millers a$$,he got that by crushing hughes the most decorated ww champ in UFC history. To be the man you gota beat him and until Fedor fights for UFC gold hes just a pus ducking real competition, the “Hercule” of mma if anyone has ever seen “Dragon Ball Z”.lol

by The Legacy on Oct 15, 2009 8:52 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

All of your posts make it obvious you’re just a hater, but I’ll respond anyway. Fedor is the consensus #1 HW in the world. You personally may not think so, but every ranking has him #1. So, by your own standards, Brock, or whoever you think is better, would have to beat Fedor to become #1. Because Fedor is the best, you have to beat Fedor. Fedor doesn’t have to go beat up Shane Carwin or Nog for a 3rd time to prove he’s the best, because he already has. Now that may not be good enough for you and your ronin warriors, but that’s the way the rest of the MMA world sees it.

by Diceman on Oct 15, 2009 9:02 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

And where do you guys get off saying he has to fight in the UFC to prove his worth? Carwin hasn’t proven to be any better than Rogers at this point in their careers, and Nog is next in line, and Fedor’s already beaten him twice. I mean besides Lesnar, it’s really easy to make the argument that Fedor has very comparable competition outside the UFC as he would have in it.

by Diceman on Oct 15, 2009 9:04 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Man most mma rankings are shit. And im not the only 1 on this blog who believes Fedors overated, read some of the entrys over again. We all must be haters.Difference is im more outspoken. If Fedor went into the UFC which is the best of the best hands fricken down and beat some legitimate contenders id even start believing this illusion that the press has painted about him also.It wouldn be no question that he could be the best than.Im not even saying beat the Champ of the back just a couple contenders. Then it wouldn be no question.

by Diceman on Oct 15, 2009 9:25 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Diceman what was said above was to be considered the best you need to be fighting the best!! Fedor has not done that at all !!! not lately he has a couple wins over some good guys but can you honestly say that he has beat top guys in his weight class? NO lets talk AA since that’s a former champ and has a loss to both fedor and rodgers, AA was beating fedor , he was winning that fight then he got careless and went for a crazy flying knee and got dropped. Rodgers ko’ed him in what 30 seconds i think that speaks for itself right there! Look at guys like GSP and Machida those are guys that will fight whoever , they are guys that want to fight the best to prove they are the best!! Machida has beat just as many big names as fedor if not more! why is he not considered the best mma fighter in the world? IMO machida would own fedor

by TheDragon on Oct 15, 2009 9:31 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

What???? Machida is on his way. He’s amazing, but how many big names has Machida dispatched? The biggest I know of are Rashad, Thiago Silva, Rich Franklin, and BJ Penn. Who else are you talking about? Styles make fights. Because Fedor took 3 minutes to take out a 6’4 very skilled HW doesn’t mean AA wasn’t a quality opponent.

by Antihate on Oct 16, 2009 1:05 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

That is so annoying, how can you say that AA was winning the fight when he got knocked out in the first round? Sure he won the first few exchanges, but come on, how can you think that he would have survived till the 3rd or 4th round? This would be like saying he was winning the first 5 seconds of the Rodgers fight. Now to people saying that Fedor is not fighting top competition, he is fighting best guys available for him to fight, he fought Sylvia who was top 5-top 10 at the time, and he fought AA who was 2nd at the time (and was flirting with P4P ranking), and he was supposed to fight Barnett (also ranked 2nd). Now if you want to say that top fighters are in UFC, you might want to say that they have the biggest stable of fighters and most talent, but they dont necessarily have the best ones.

by Gleb on Oct 16, 2009 2:01 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

The only reason AA was ranked 2nd at the time was because he was fighting Fedor Gleb. The best fighter Fedor has beat is NOG by decision two times in only a 3 round fights I was discussing this with Beaver last night and we all now JJ guys don’t get points for attempting JJ moves especially from there back and he was unable to get Fedor like he was unable to Randy in a sub but he was able to outstrike Randy and this is how Fedor got his status in MMA and and deserving at the time but he has been living off those fights ever since. AA is a great striker but he has problems with fighters bigger than him like Sylvia and Rogers and he has a ify chin and defence wich is a bad combo. Rogers is with a doubt one of the most exciting up and comers but he has a lot of questions to answer on his game we know his striking is good but thats it. In MMA the most reconized belt is the UFC belt as it is the belt that has the most history and most viewed fights over and there is no doubt it is a more respected belt than any other. One thing Fedor said the last couple months is he has nothing to prove? I say bull to that if you want to be called the best then you must prove it.

by Puck Head on Oct 16, 2009 9:35 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Fedor is 7-0 against UFC Heavyweight Champions. All of them were on winning streaks and ranked in the top 10 at the time Fedor beat them, most were ranked TOP 2-5, and that’s not including CroCop who was TOP 2 at the time.

Name me ONE UFC fighter/champion who has 8 wins against TOP-10 Heavyweights??? Diceman is dead right, anyone who wants to prove they’re the best has to go through Fedor, not the other way around.

by shonuff on Oct 16, 2009 11:00 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Sylvia was coming off a loss to Couture and AA lost to Sylvia twice there is no way any man that has watched MMa for as long as I have that would call Sylvia a better fighter than Couture your just trying to fool yourself man. Now Fedor has beat two ex UFC champs that can’t beat Couture C’mon man we all know when there was Pride and the UFC the Pride HW were the best but there is no doubt the UFC has changed that fact. The point is Fedor has not faced the 2nd best or even third best or even 4th best or even 5th best fighter for some time anyone that had AA or Tim as a top 5 in the world does not know MMA that well sorry man but thats the truth infact over 50% of the fighters on Fedors list are not even top 20 fighters little alone top ten he was the best but I don’t believe he is anymoreshonuff if he is prove it get the #1 belt in the world. At least Cro Cop tried and your probally right like Tim and AA he was not at the top of his game like his Pride days.

by Puck Head on Oct 16, 2009 11:31 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

“anyone that had AA or Tim as a top 5 does not know MMA.” So you’re saying Sherdog, MMA Weekly, BE, FOOP, ESPN, etc…none of them know much about MMA? Ok, just checking.

“infact over 50% of the fighters on Fedor’s list are not even top 20.” That’s called “working your way up”. Not everybody comes in from WWE and gets a free pass to the top 5. And 50% of 30 wins still means Fedor has beaten more ranked opponents than any current UFC HW has even fought with the possible exceptions of Couture and Nog.

by shonuff on Oct 16, 2009 12:18 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Still doesn’t prove Fedor is the best now like I said he is one of the greatest HW fighters ever if not the best as far as a career right now but many believe he isn’t the best HW right NOW shonuff I’m not argueing that he isn’t a great fighter as he is a legend of the sport and one of the greatest fighters ever in MMA but I do think he can very easily lose in the UFC maybe I’m wrong but most believe if Fedor is going to lose it would be to a guy named Brock even some believe Ia guy named Machida and Silva could but pretty much everybody agrees the fighters in the UFC have the best chance and if he was to get the belt he would be proving he’s the best but right now he’s proving nothing cause like he said he doesn’t have too he’s riding on his status mainly on beating another legend of the sport NOG. If you respect that that’s to bad I believe you can’t be called the best unless you beat the best and 5 years ago means nothing NOW!

by Puck Head on Oct 16, 2009 1:42 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Puck Head-you’re still proving that by your own standards Fedor should still be considered the best. You again came to the “to be the best, you have to beat the best” argument. So until someone beats Fedor, he’s the best. I don’t know how you can try to get around that. It’s your own standard.

by Diceman on Oct 16, 2009 3:10 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I see what your saying and yes his name should be mentioned with the best I’m saying he’s not the undisputed best figther he’s only arguably the best the difference between the two is one is proof the other is opinion and your opinion is he still is the best and I believe there are a few fighter out there that can beat him infact I had Barnett to beat him not because I wanted Barnett to win but I felt Barnett had the ability to control Fedor on the ground and the ability to take Fedor to the ground. With saying that all the UFC belt is the #1 MMA belt in the world and really if a fighter wants to be called #1 come and prove it.

by Puck Head on Oct 16, 2009 3:20 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I would love to see Fedor fight Machida. Even Rothwell said he would like to see Machida vs. Fedor.

by naturalshadow on Oct 16, 2009 5:20 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Machida, Brock, Silva, NOG, Carwin and even Couture would be huge draws that would draw in record PPV crowds and if they were on TV would shatter whatever records for at least Fedors first fight. Still pisses me off now that we are talking about it that he went with a second tier organization.

by RedDog on Oct 15, 2009 8:32 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

People perceive he is the best because they’ve bought into his mystique and his Pride legacy. Many a great Pride fighters came back down to reality after entering the Octagon…what makes Fedor so special that he doesn’t have to test his hand against the best fighters in the world and ppl still think he’s the best? Lesnar would rock him. So would several others I believe.

by RedDog on Oct 15, 2009 8:34 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Anderson Silva lost 2 out of 5 fights in Pride by your logic does that make him a bad fighter or is it only if they fight well in pride and bad in the ufc? Perhaps there are other reasons “Pride fighters” don’t perform in the ufc?

by mike on Oct 15, 2009 9:00 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Fedor already HAS fought and beaten the best. He has more wins against TOP-10 Heavyweights than any other fighter in the sport.

by shonuff on Oct 16, 2009 11:13 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I think I am like many, I was so excited and thought Fedor would be coming to the UFC and when he didn’t I was mad and irritated and thought Fedor was scared of the UFC. Now looking back it wasn’t fair because he has no say in where he signs but M1 does. I don’t care that he is fighting a bum (and yes I consider Rogers a bum, he probably has the power to knock out anyone in MMA but that is just luck) because I will watch it. I would be much more excited to see him fighting someone legit in the UFC but damnit I love watching Fedor fight.

by Edgecrusher71 on Oct 15, 2009 6:25 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

guess we will find out if it was luck or he can fight. is there such thing as a lucky punch?

by the still operator on Oct 15, 2009 6:35 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Fedor is part owner of M1, of course he has a say, but he has a loyalty to Vadim, that’s why he didn’t sign.

Strikeforce still has Werdum and Overeem as opponents that could legitimize Fedor to newish fans, even though those names aren’t as prominent as UFC names.

Bigfoot Silva and Rogers (cans) are also there to keep Fedor active. I’m going to enjoy hearing the UFC backlash after each of Fedor’s fights.

by rockwell on Oct 15, 2009 7:24 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Its a such thing as a lucky punch when you have next to no skills or training in standup whatsoever..OR..u duck ur head into your nutsack simultaneously throwing a hermes franca windmill haymaker from ur a$$ crack to knock out a former ufc champion who was winning the standup until he decides to be a genius by throwing a flying knee from the middle of the got dang ring.Just a couple examples.

by The Legacy on Oct 15, 2009 8:17 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

So when someone who is highly skilled in their craft does EXACTLY what they were trying to do it’s luck? So if I find a photo of A-rod hitting a home run, and his eyes are closed at the instant the bat hits the ball that’s luck? You gotta be kidding me.

by Diceman on Oct 15, 2009 8:50 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Fedor wasnt even looking at Arlovski when he threw that haymaker he was looking at his fricken Bunions. He was getting owned in the standup,or slowly but surly picked and out pointed with precise and acurate boxing on the feet until Arlovski dumb a$$ went air born.Fedor has heavy hands, but technically hes sht on the feet.Hermes has heavy hands also but look what technique did to him in his last fight.Think about it.

by The Legacy on Oct 15, 2009 8:59 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

You don’t have to see to anticipate someone’s movements. Hermes Franca is 19-8, Fedor is 30-1…that is the worst comparison I have ever seen.

by tiger_style on Oct 15, 2009 9:25 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I’ll think about the fact that Fedor’s only been put on queer street one time in 31 fights, and it wasn’t by AA. I’ll think about the fact that AA didn’t hurt Fedor ONE TIME in that fight. I’ll think that you’re crazy for thinking that Fedor sucks because the best HW boxer in the world out-pointed him for 2 and a half minutes before getting KTFO. And I’ll think about how little you know to keep comparing Fedor to Hermes Franca. Like I said above, I’m done arguing with you because you don’t know what you’re talking about.

by Diceman on Oct 15, 2009 9:28 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I dont know what im talking about, but Frank Mir said the samething.Your blinded by your love for Fedor.Get him to come to the UFC to fight the best will ya.im outy

by The Legacy on Oct 15, 2009 9:39 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Sad thing is the Hermes Franca comparison wasn’t the worst, comparing him to a comic relief cartoon character who got beat up by a child was even worse.

Fedor is the best HW, he beat the best in Pride and has stopped 2 former UFC HW champions in the first round in his last 2 fights, my problem with him is that he’s more bothered about his stake in M-1 than his fighting career. He’s the most well rounded and dominant HW in MMA by a mile, Lesnar could one day be better than him or beat him but right now Fedor is the best. I only don’t have him at the top of p4p because Andy and GSP have beaten better fighters in their weight class and in Andy’s case the division above, but Fedor is at least top 3 p4p and until he loses he’s going to be third at worst.

Grim is as worthy an opponent as Carwin, Cain and to a lesser extent JDS would be, he’s an undefeated prospect with one quality win over the last guy Fedor beat. He is going to be a threat standing and I wouldn’t be surprised if he caught Fedor early and stopped him, sure it sounds crazy but dominant fighters like Torres and Faber have been beaten by opponents they underestimated and if Fedor does the same then he could be the next dominant champion to have an upset defeat. Chances are Fedor will take Grim down and submit him but this is by no means a lock.

The “quotes” and the music were awesome, but the training footage of Fedor was utterly unimpressive.

I thought one of the famous/infamous clauses in his M-1 contract was that he owns his own fight footage. So why are we watching him battle tires instead of Nogs and Arlovskis? That’s like advertising an NBA game by showing Jordan run a 50 yd dash!

Fedor is the man and i have all his fights…. but hes not the best anymore, if he starts to fight agan and do what he does best, he will be back up on top in my books. i love Fedor but he is not lovin his fans.

Andre Arlovski exposed his standup. If he didn’t have such a glass jaw, that fight would have been a different story… I take nothing away from Fedor, who found the opening & grabbed it, but he is far from invincible.

Wow…when you list the rosters it really puts the UFC’s HW division in perspective…..no exactly what I’d call the “best in the world” now, is it?

Many of you guys like to say that the UFC is to MMA what McDonald’s is to fast food, and I don’t disagree…they are the kingpin of MMA without question. But, how did McDonald’s get to where they are? The great food? The wonderful atmosphere? The friendly staff? No to all of these.

McDonald’s got to where they are through advertising and targeting their main demographic with that advertising. They target young children through television commercials… and target as many as they possibly can through those commercials, much like the UFC has been able to do up until this point. However, with SF’s audience being through CBS, and the UFC’s audience primarily being through Spike TV… SF now enjoys a broader range of viewers through their TV deal.

You can all argue until you’re blue in the face about how a Fedor win or a Fedor loss will affect the future of SF, but all that really matters is whether or not anyone watches the fight. If Fedor loses, and you haters are correct in saying that the casual fan doesn’t give a crap about Fedor, than Bret Rogers just gained himself a huge fanbase…and correct me if I’m wrong, but Bret Rogers is on SF’s roster too, isn’t he?

by introvert on Oct 16, 2009 9:57 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

If Rogers wins the long time MMA fans will really question Fedors #1 status and even top 3 staus intro and yes will rise Rogers status but the #1 ranking on Fedor will be lost not to Rogers but the UFC champion were the ranking belongs. Your wrong in saying I’m a hater because I like Fedor I just don’t think he’s the best anymore but he the best HW ever as of now anyway and of coarse I will watch him fight as he finally is fighting a ligit top fifteen fighter that is on the rise not decline. Point is unless he gets the UFC belt around his waste he is not the undisputed #1 HW in the world now days.

The fact that I can’t watch this in Canada is an excellent display of Strikeforce promotion. So one of/if not the best fighter in the world is fighting……..who????? what a waste, unless it’s just about the paycheck.

U people kill me. 8 months ago it was “he needs to beat AA” so..he does… Now he’s fighting a guy that destoryed AA (in much quicker fashion I might add) and u question the level of competition he faces…

They will never be satisfied. There is always an excuse about each fighter he beats. They get caught up in the Dana White war of words.

by Bob Lawblah on Oct 16, 2009 9:51 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

The fact is guy’s the UFC belt is the belt known around the world by fighters and fans as the world champion belt do you really think that the Strikeforce belt means anything. Fedor himself said he has nothing to prove and thats sad for MMA fans that he can choose his battles and ride on his decision wins in a 3 round fight over NOG for so long it really is sad for you guys If I was a fan I would be grasping I guess to at anything possible to find an excuse for him and why he doesn’t fight were most MMA fans including most of his fans want to see him fight.

by Puck Head on Oct 16, 2009 10:01 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

“The fact is guy’s the UFC belt is the belt known around the world by fighters and fans”
Until millions of people watch SF in November.

“ride on his decision wins in a 3 round fight over NOG for so long”
Which of the WIN"S" over Nog are you referring to?

“were most MMA fans including most of his fans want to see him fight.”
Most of the fans will see him fight on CBS…more than will watch him fight on PPV.

by introvert on Oct 16, 2009 10:27 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

spot on, Intro. What most of us hardcore fans fail to realize is that the average American doesn’t know who Randy Couture or Tito Ortiz are either. The sad fact is that more people have watched Chuck Liddell dance than have seen him fight, and as of Nov. 8, more Americans will know who Fedor is than know who GSP, BJP, and Anderson Silva are. Right now, Brock Lesnar and Kimbo Slice are the biggest names in MMA in the U.S. Is it because they’re the best? Of course not! It’s because they came from NETWORK TV and the Internet. In the words of Master Yoda, “Never underestimate the power of the Force, all around you it is!” That’s network TV kids! It’s EVERYWHERE. The UFC may offer premium angus burgers with all the trimmings, but Strikeforce will have their Fry Guys in every living room in America for the next month.

by shonuff on Oct 16, 2009 11:54 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

LOL there were 4.5million viewers watching TUF the night Kimbo fought my friend. The UFC is for the hardcore fan mainly as they put on 14 PPV a year 5 or six free live events a year and a couple seasons of TUF that are all successfule the numbers strikeforce will put up will be no were near the numbers the uFC puts up when they go on network TV next year as well no were near the amount of fights wich are around 100 fights a year plus all the bonus material they show of old fights and the TUF fights. You are fooling yourself into thinking Strikeforce is going to become near the UFC for one event no matter how much you love Fedor. The UFC is miles and miles ahead of Strikeforce it’s very ignorant to even think Strikeforce is on the same level.

by Puck Head on Oct 16, 2009 1:59 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

lmao…no crap.

“Tim will test him”…pow, choke, end fight.

“AA will KO him”…cablam, end fight.

Then, after Fedor walks through them both, and even though both these guys were ranked top 5 at the time…all anyone can say is “they sucked”…lmao…it’s so pathetic.

by introvert on Oct 16, 2009 9:59 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

BS intro most fans seen the out of shape Sylvia heading down hill and thats why the UFC didn’t re sign him and AA has always had good striking but his defence in MMA along with his suspect chin was always a issue. Don’t fool yourself we all know that there would be little if no debate if he were to sign with the UFC who the best was there might be some excuses made for Fedor but thats about it.

by Puck Head on Oct 16, 2009 10:06 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

BS Puck Head…Tim Silvia wasn’t re-signed by the UFC, because he was projected as a “boring fighter with no personality” and didn’t “fit the mold”.

Dana White went on record and said that he “made a mistake in not re-signing Arlovski”…right before Fedor beat him.

They were both top 5 when Fedor beat them…no amount of hatred toward Fedor is going to change that fact!!!!

by introvert on Oct 16, 2009 10:23 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I agree with introvert on this. Tim Sylvia, while on roids, was one of the most exciting HW out there. Then he got the belt the 2nd time and started fighting not to lose. But at that time when he fought Fedor, he was still considered a very very good opponent. The fight before he dominated Big Nog for almost 3 rounds before getting submitte Before that fight he hadn’t been finished since AA in 2005. He had never been tko’d or ko’d before the fedor fight. His record was 24-5 at the time of the fight.

AA has always been solid. But you’re right his chin has been suspect. But still he was 15-5 when he fought fedor with a 5 fight win streak that included Werdum, Nelson, and Rothwell.

by Bob Lawblah on Oct 16, 2009 10:42 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Tim was a decent big fighter that would lose to Barnett, Brock, Carwin, Yvel, Santos, Gonzoga, Rogers, NOG, Cain and even Rogers. he used his size well but if he had problems out muscling his opponent or his opponent had a good ground game he was done and even though he beat AA the reason he did was because AA was not skilled enough to get out of the big mans grappling. yes AA was a exciting fighter and one of the best HW strikers but his defence was brutal and no were near a top 10 HW with his offence ability maybey being a top five he at best was near the top ten over all. Dana doesn’t always want just the best he likes exciting fighters that draw in crowds and AA was that guy he would of liked to keep thats it and thats all the only thing Dana said was he had great potential but was not a complete MMA fighter yet. Werdum and him around the same level and Tim Sylvia got very lazy when he becam champion anyone with common sense seen the decline of big Tim.

The UFC has grown their product over the past 10 or so years to a great extent, there’s no question…but has anyone really stopped to look at their PPV numbers over the last couple of years? There was a big rise in PPV numbers for UFC 100, but since then they seemed to have levelled off. UFC 100 was a huge card, and had a stigma to it (much like the Super Bowl does for football), so it’s no surprise that the numbers were bigger for that event, but what has happened since?

My point being…all this talk about the UFC becomming huge and continuing to grow is a little misleading. Considering the sport was not even on the sports radar 10 years ago, and the UFC is very popular among MMA fans right now is very impressive…but at what point do you stop comparing the UFC’s drawing power with what it was 10 years ago and start comparing from one show to the next, or even the last couple of years? We can look back to the beginning of any sports organization’s history and say “this sport is growing” when compared to the beginning….but what about in the last few years?

The only way the UFC continues to grow is through network TV. If you don’t agree with me, that’s cool…but I only need to direct you to the UFC’s PPV numbers to prove to you that the “growth” is slowing…not gaining. PPV numbers that stay relatively constaint tells us one thing, and one thing only… the same people are buying the PPV’s.

Network TV is a must have for future growth.

by introvert on Oct 16, 2009 10:38 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I agree with you 100% about Network TV, intro. But I think you need to look up the word “stigma”. In the words of the great Inigo Montoya, “I do no tink it means what ju tink it means!”

by shonuff on Oct 16, 2009 12:02 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Intro you know the UFC is going to be on Network TV don’t you? they are looking for the best deal possible and by the sound of it we will be seeing UFC next year and trust me they will be getting way more money on their deal than what Strikeforce is getting on theirs I don’t mind that Strikeforce is around intro and think they put on a good show once in awhile but don’t fool yourself into thinking they are near the UFC calibure because they are not. One of their biggest issues is the fact that their HW champion like Fedor is allowed to fight outside of Strikeforce and hasn’t defended the belt in almost two years!! Thats bogus and something the #1 MMA organization would never allow.
