UFC Quick Quote: Frank Trigg vs Tomato Can coming soon to an Octagon near you?

"If my next fight is Serra, it's going to be a loser leave town match cause he is on a 2-fight losing streak, so that would be 3 fights in a row that he lost and for me, it would be a 2-fight losing streak if I lost and I'm out. One of us is going to have to go home. If I fight somebody else and I lose, I'm going to have to leave regardless because I would have 2 losses. I would like for them to give me a tomato can, like some low-level martial artist, so I can beat the crap out of somebody for a change and get a win streak going, but the way they work with me, it's going to be somebody tough no matter who it is."
-- Former number one welterweight contender, Frank Trigg, tells FightHype.com that he's got one more chance to prove he still belongs with the rest of the contenders in the UFC welterweight division. Josh Koscheck welcomed "Twinkle Toes" back to the Octagon after more than four years away from the promotion with a first round technical knockout at UFC 103 back on Sept. 19. Rumors have been swirling about a possible showdown with Matt Serra in early 2010; however, nothing is official at this time. Win or lose, does Trigg deserve the chance to finish out the remaining fights on his contract? Or is the 37-year-old fighter better off calling it quits if he drops two straight? Opinions please.

During the UFC 103 countdown show, all trigg w as talking about was wanting to be remembered with the greats like Hughes,Randy, chuck…Now he wants a can? Just go away, you are simply NOT GOOD ENOUGH!

With those little shiny red trunks on he at least has a future in the homosexual titillation industry.

Kinda pointless trying to prove you belong in the ufc when you want to fight tomato cans bud..

My thought exactly Steve.
Think him vs Serra sounds about right.

At least he’s being honest. And probably trying to be funny as well. I bet a lot of guys feel that way. It’s nice to challenge yourself against top competition. But it’s also nice to whup someone every once in a while.
Anyway, if he didn’t want to fight the best, he wouldn’t be in the UFC. Regardless of what people say, there are no cans in the UFC IMHO. Just because someone is not top 5 in the world does not make him a can.

But I considered Nakamura a can when he came to the UFC, so I guess there are still cans in the UFC.

Steve….very true, I just hope he wasn’t really serious. Who in the world of MMA asks for that?

When you first enter the UFC its alright to fight cans, but Trigg is a vet on a secondary league win streak, he should get Ellengerger next. Taking a Koscheck fight 1st was dumb, but I think some people overlook wrestlers like Koscheck. Also Trigg shows how good UFC is, because he beat Jayson Mayhem Miller at 185, but at 170 Ellenberger or a UFC “CAN” which there are few of could win!!
I also like Trigg fighting Serra, Rumble, Yoshida, Daley.
Trigg could maybe beat shane primm or another TUF looser, but hasnt proven himself to be worthy of a matt hughes aniverseray match until they r in wheel chairs.

I’d like to see Trigg Vs NOBODY! He is boring at best! Adios

I like Frank but he was never very good. He has some of the most lopsided losses in UFC History. Still couldn’t beat Hughes even after kicking his nuts up his stomach and got beat so badly by St Pierre I felt sorry for him.

Give Trigg Paul Taylor, as that is the only level of WW he’s going to be beating these days. Trigg is past it and is clearly lacking confidence if he needs to beat a nobody to get a win on his record, beating a can is meaningless and won’t help him improve at all.
Trigg wasn’t even that good in his prime, so now that he is past it he won’t beat any young WW contenders and will struggle to beat the older generation like Hughes and Serra, even Hallman could end up with a quick submission win. After this fight he’s going to end up getting cut and will have to go back to TNA and play his Kurt Angle lookalike role.

He could always change his name to Froink “The Scottish Annihilator” Trigg or something so he can at least be a regular on the UK cards.

Then he’ll come out with bagpipes to 500 miles. That would get the Spartan Army to cheer for him, especially if he claimed that he wanted to buy a house in Scotland.

I hope Serra comes back with a bang. He’s shown he has the tools – i think he will make another run, as long as he keeps active. The guy is exciting as hell to watch, but where the phuk is he??

Serra is not going home, though if he losses to Trigg, he should seriously consider retirement. Serra is a former champ, and his last two losses have been to GSP and Hughes(split decision). Last time I checked, those two were not tomato can’s.

Matt serra, I don’t really like him but I can respect him. He was a decent WW and he actually got the title, yeah it was an upset, and yeah it didn’t last long, but he got it. That being said I think that Serra should consider retiring if he gets anymore losses, esp. to trigg.
by Steve on Oct 14, 2009 10:03 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
The difference between Serra and Trigg is that Serra has tons of fans and he beat GSP. And I’m sure he’ll beat Trigg as well. And I’m not sure Trigg could beat a can.

Bravo! Bravo! Good speach, Frank! He’s actually saying what most fighters are thinking! Whether they admit it or not!

He signed a contract for four fights, give him four fights. Trigg’s been around long enough, at a high enough level, that he deserves that much.

Are you going to pay to see Frank Trigg fight cans? Or worse lose badly to legit fighters? I know I don’t want to. Let him retire before it is too late or let him go somewhere that needs him for the name recognition. I don’t want to pay to see him fight.

2010 will be the year of Matt Serra!
I am so happy that Serra said he’s fighting more than once during 2010. Although I beleive he’s much better at lightweight, he still has the tools to beat some tough WW competition. However in his last two fights especially the second one with GSP, he tried standing with him the whole time. I know Matt has very strong boxing and already dropped GSP before, but he should use his BJJ skills more! Matt has a very good gaurd with the credentials to submit anyone. Serra vs Trigg is a joke. Serra would maul him. Trigg doesn’t have the greatest chin and one right hand from Serra would floor him. If trigg takes it to the ground, he’s fucked. Trigg’s submission defense is like watching kimbo’s takedown defense.

Serra has the credentials to sumbmit anyone?Really cause he hasnt since 2002.

He should get cut today for saying this. If you are looking for cans, the UFC WW division is not for you. Even their worst guys are top fighters
