I hope he doesn’t because I don’t want to see Vera vs Machida.

Worst training vid ever even if you didn’t watch the Lesnar one

I like the prospect of Vera fighting Machida. That would be one of the most technical striking matches to date…
by Syd on Oct 12, 2009 6:10 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
yep, much more of a challenge for Machida than fighting Rashad was.

your crazy… I guarantee Randy will dominate every aspect of this fight…
by belfort_fan on Oct 12, 2009 2:18 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
He won’t dominate every aspect. If he’s smart he will clinch w/ Vera, pin him against the cage, and use dirty boxing. That’s how Sylvia beat Vera, and IMO it’s the only way that Couture will beat Vera. Thanks for the “gaurantee” though.
by LJ on Oct 12, 2009 2:41 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
LJ.. is that right? sorry i dont recognize you, must be a newbe… Anyways.. Randy will take him down at will and yes like you said will use the clinch and dirty boxing to dominate. Randy will dominate on the ground and on the feet watch nd see.
by belfort_fan on Oct 12, 2009 2:49 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
If Vera gets rid of the scared’ attitude’ he could beat Couture, but everytime Vera is matched up with an elite opponent that can go the distance he mentally folds like a house of cards.

belfort_fan- I’ve actually been on here for about 2 years now. I’m just stating my opinion on how I think that fight will turn out. Vera’s wrestling and bjj is actually pretty damn good, which leads me to believe that Randy will will clinch and dirty box. I don’t think he can outstrike Vera. I guess we’ll see when they fight who is right and who is wrong.
DAVE A- I completely agree w/ you! He has to find his “killer instinct”!
by LJ on Oct 12, 2009 3:42 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I agree LJ. We all know that Couture is a freak of nature. He has silenced all of the doubters and critics so many times that it would be crazy to ever bet against him. However, at some point Father Time will catch up with everyone, including Randy Couture. I absolutely love the man, but he really looked a step slow in his last few fights, and i’m concerned that it’s the beginning of the end for Randy from a competitive fighting perspective. I hope and pray that i’m wrong, but if i were betting $$$, it would have to go to Vera.
by kg on Oct 12, 2009 4:23 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
@ belfort_fan – Randy will control every minute of the fight, not every aspect. The slight difference is that if he does not have total control in some area (standing) he will clinch or take it to the ground where he will control Vera.
by TheMattKing on Oct 12, 2009 5:15 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
comparing sylvia to couture is dumb. the difference between the 2 is about 8" and 50 lbs. i dont think couture is fast enough anymore to catch up with vera to take him down or pin to the cage nor is his striking anyhwhere good enough to beat him on the feet. not a knock against nog but i dont think his striking is technically as good as vera and couture looked like a punching bag against nog. vera by tko in the second.
by Egads on Oct 12, 2009 6:39 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
WEll the trick is for Vera to keep his distance and dissect Randy with brutal kicks. Like the ones he delivered to Mike “can” Patt…
by Syd on Oct 12, 2009 9:39 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Vera is going to own the standup, use punches and kicks and slip away the whole time. I think we could see some knees in the clinch too if it gets there.
by RoBerto on Oct 12, 2009 11:20 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Randy won’t beat Vera, Randy days in the spotlight are over.
by Deadman on Oct 12, 2009 3:14 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I agree with what your saying belfort_fan. I know I shouldn’t do this, but I am definately looking past Vera and wondering who Couture fights next after he beats Vera? Does he fight the loser of Shogun/Machida or does he fight the loser of Evans/Silva? Then after he wins that fight after Vera, we should see Couture fighting for the 205 strap towards the end of the year.
by Red on Oct 12, 2009 1:33 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
That would be sweet… I know he willl beat Vera, but do you think he can still hang ot Championship level at 205 still. Time will tell.
by belfort_fan on Oct 12, 2009 2:20 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Captain Paycheck is always one win away from a title shot. If he beats Vera his next fight will be the Machida-Shogun winner.

i defo think randy has the tools to put up a good fight against Machida,
Randy’s style of clinch against the cage and the taking down his opponent might prove a problem for machida… ok the guy is super elusive but if randy got hold of him and was able to take him down it could be a good fight,
realistically tho machida could prob dance around Coutour picking him apart and stuffing his TD attempts…
well it does look like im looking past vera, but i do think he has a good punchers chance of pulling off an upset, me an my house mates got ground floor £250 tickets so we pretty close to the octagon, so if you see some long haired hippy jumpin about like a mad thing in first few rows after vera knocks him out its prob me going mental :P
by CoN'r on Oct 12, 2009 2:30 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
You guys need to stop swinging from Randy’s sack! Machida would kill him with counter striking. If that fight ever happens, it would be The Dragon by KO in rd 1. Randy is getting old, and he’s never faired well against counter strikers!
by LJ on Oct 12, 2009 2:42 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I do agree with you on that Lj Rand wouldnt stand a chance against Machida…
by belfort_fan on Oct 12, 2009 3:03 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
LJ I agree, Couture would have a tough time catching machida in a clinch and even then it would be tough taking him down. It would be extremely difficult for Couture to set up takedowns with striking 1st. Couture would suffer a lopsided defeat against Machida.
by DAVE A on Oct 12, 2009 3:21 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
£250 tickets bloody hell CoN’r, I could barely afford a couple of £65 tickets, to be honest there was no way that I was going to spend more than that for a card with no announced main event and I’m glad that I didn’t now as I’ve bought 2 £40 tickets for the Khan-Salita fight and am going to get tickets for either the V or Leeds Fests. Plus I might have to buy a new 360 as I got the red ring of death today (that’s 2 360s that have done that to me), if the insurance are buggers and won’t let me swap it for a new one as I still have a valid warranty. Either way my student loan is dwindling fast.
by David W-S on Oct 12, 2009 7:07 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
wrap your 360 with a towel and let it overheat and it will fix itself

I think so bro. Couture is at a perfect size at 205. He is not big enough at heavyweight. As Lesnar showed against him, size does matter. Also GSP showed Penn that size matters, too.

Jesus guys, i like Randy Couture too, but c’mon?? Machida would slaughter Randy. To think that Randy could compete for the LHW Title is more than crazy, it’s reckless. I think they should continue signing Randy to fight interesting fights. He always puts on a great show, and I love the fact that he’s willing to take an interesting fight because he likes to figure out the “puzzle” aspect of it. I think Randy could spend another 2-3 years taking fights like Vera and Nog………but to put him in against Machida or Lesnar is just insane. Randy’s one of the greatest ever, but he’ll get worked by those guys, and i don’t like to watch icon’s take a beating…..
by kg on Oct 12, 2009 7:41 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
It’d be more exciting for the division if Vera wins, A convincing finish over randy and vera is only 1/2 wins away from a title shot.
by blakemore on Oct 12, 2009 1:38 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
yea…I really dont know who to root for…Vera was on a warpath when he first entered the ufc, but has looked lackluster lately…maybe its the matchups…Id love to see a hungry Vera take on Machida, tho….Randy vs Machida is also interesting, as long as randy could get in and clinch without eating too many shots….but as someone posted a lil further up, father time is eventually gonna catch up with him. I didnt see in his last 2 fights…just attributed his losses to the fact that his opponents were better on those nights…Randy is a legend, and I enjoy watching him fight. However..I dont want to be watching a fight where his age does catch up and he is seriously injured…hope he knows better, swallows his pride and retires (FOR GOOD) before that happens.

I think Vera wins this by knock out…then again Vera has disappointed me in the past by coasting to wins and not trying to finish fights….hence Im not that impressed with his physical training he always had the tools….more concerned about his mental prep

Vera is the underdog in the physical AND mental match up

Who ares abt either fighter? Vera is abt as exciting as a snail and couture is front cover of oldnews.com or hasbeen.com

guys remember Brandon Vera hasn’t looked the same in a LOOOOONNNGGGG time. He lost to KEITH Jardine! Andy Reese was giving him some type of fight. ANDY REESE!? Vera hasn’t proved shit since losing to tim Sylvia. People who think he’s anywhere close to a title contention need to study the UFC a little closer.
by Carnage on Oct 12, 2009 2:02 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
really? a win over randy and then he could maybe face winner or thiago/evans possibly. if he wins that fight he could easily be given a chance at the title. will he have deserved it? no. but the ufc could give it to him anyways depending on how all other fights in the division go down. sorry, but you are the ignorant one thinking the ufc doesnt give undeserving fighters chances at title shots. especially in the LHW division. id say the next title fight there is a perfect example.
by Egads on Oct 12, 2009 2:49 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I agree but I don’t know who else they would put in to fight Machida….Shogun is well known and does have 2 wins in the UFC both by ko

i love randy as much as any one, but this fight scares me. I didn’t think the shot from brock would daze randy, and the shots nog hit him with were good shots, but i have seen him take more and harder ones. Vera isnt the better fighter out of the two, but i can see any solid stiker knocking out randy at this point.
by Blazy J on Oct 12, 2009 2:04 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
That punch from Brock hurts everyone it hits. Mir went down from it, Herring did a back summersault from it.

the thing is vera isnt a good striker… he landed F all againts slow ass Krystof. Randy will do what he did to Gonzaga

Vera will take this one if he can keep it standing but we all saw what Verdum did to him even though it may have been stopped a little premature. Has anyone watched Vera fight off his back?

I think Vera looked like he lost against the TIRE. :)
Which Vera will show up?
He used to be a finisher. Is he even able to finish fights anymore?

i was very unimpressed with his training! i think he was a better hw then a lw. he doesnt look strong at all dropping to 205 and his conditioning is horrible. i hope he gives randy a fight, but i think randy will be too much for him.

Is it just me or did Vera look kinda goofy on the floor-ladder?
by mburtoni on Oct 12, 2009 6:15 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
I don’t think the floor ladder was responsible for making Vera look goofy…..Brandon made himself look goofy. His strength looks terrible and I’m surprised he would let anyone film this!

NO Vera did not look funny he’s also getting ready for dancing with the stars.
I hope randy mauls him.
Admit it Vera has looked so bad in every fight since his contract negotiations

This isnt even going to be a fight, Randy by total domination!!! Actually this fight does not excite me in the least. 1st I cant belive Vera is still i the UFC, he has to have pictures of Dana doing something he shouldnt be doing. What a waste of a main event. Brandon Vera is a can, why is he still here? and why is he in a main event? He will never even come close to being a champion. What a joke, fights like this one make me shake my head. This will be one I dont pay for!!!!! Everybody got up in arms about Franklin Vs. Hendo 2 but will put up with this crap………..FUCKING CRAP!!!!!!

Vera has a lot of talent he just never puts it all together.

It’s WIN or LOSE w/Vera. If he loses this, I don’t think he will remain in the UFC for much longer. He has become a boring a$$ fighter. Who will by tickets to see this cat now? I used to love this cat, but he pisses me off w/his boring fights.
