Dan Hardy: Mike Swick has 'no clue' about 'the beating' he will get at UFC 105

Props: ThisIsNottingham.co.uk
Quoteworthy:
"I have read some articles on the internet saying that I may lack the "killer instinct" in this fight with Swick because I've hung out with Mike and we get along very well. Not gonna happen.... A couple of days of pleasant conversation with Swick won't save him from the beating I am going to give him next month ... on the whole, it is easier for me to prepare for Swick than it is for Swick to prepare for me. I've only had three fights in the UFC and I've not shown even half of my skills yet. There are lots of things I do well that Swick has no clue about, whereas Swick has been in the UFC for four years and I know exactly what he can and can't do. I think this is the fight of the night. My style will gel very well with Mike's. We both come from a kickboxing background, we both have very fast strikes and there's so much on the line for us both."
Welterweight contender Dan Hardy likes his chances heading into his number one welterweight contender eliminator match against Mike Swick at UFC 105: "Couture vs. Vera" from the Manchester Evening News (MEN) Arena in Manchester, England, on Nov. 14. "The Outlaw" feels his relative inexperience inside the Octagon and hidden skills will carry him to victory on fight night. And, in the process, be impressive enough to earn him a future title shot against reigning 170-pound champion, Georges St. Pierre. Does Hardy truly have the tricks up his sleeve to topple "Quick" or will his bluff get called?

Semtex, I could stand seein’ him losin’.
As for HArdy, I like the guy[he looks like a carbon copy of my good friend, hehehe], so I don’t want him losin’ to the likes of D!ck Swick.
The trick for Hardy to win this is to land some punches faster than D!ck. If that happens, D!ck would be foldin’ like Rory Markham…Hope he talks trash to HArdy so it would be a lot more interesting!

This will be one of the legendary ‘battle of the tools’… I can only hope the winner gets GSP just to show the difference between #1 and a 5-10 level fighter.
Alves and Fitch would beat both of these guys 10 out of 10 and they were destroyed by GSP.

GSP against Swick or Hardy! Say it aint so. Who would pay to watch that public beatdown? Winner deserves someone more like Jake Ellingberger.

i agree that both are a league below the level of gsp and both are undeserving of a title fight, but in mma anything can happen and gsp knows that – look what happened in the serra fight!

Swick is good, but no where near Gsp. Dan Hardy could be good, maybe he does have tricks up his sleeve, we will see. I say a swickotine ends this fight early. Gsp beats swick rd 1 via rear naked choke, and silences critics for not finishing 2 of last 3 fights. Gsp has been proven to be more human than the spider and lyoto when he got ko’d by MATT SERRA. Therefore eventhough GSP will crush Swick, Swick has a punchers chance just as Alves did, but Alves failed trying. I don’t think Swick is better than Alves, but hes faster!

I am a big fan of Dan Hardy, and I think Swick hasnt accomplished a FOCKING thing in 4 years. He has been in the UFC for 4 years, and is still facing the level of competition that hardy has faced in his 1st 3 fights. Pathetic if you ask me.
I truly believe that Hardy is going to mold himself into a top WW. Will he be there already or the Swick fight, I dont know…but sooner or later, Hardy is going to turn into a top fighter. Believe me!
WAR OUTLAW!! From your American fans!

i like hardy, i think he has a good chance of winning this fight.
swick is over-rated he has fought very few top level fighters in his four years with the ufc.
i’m amazed how much hatred there is towards semtex, hardy and bisping. bisping, i can understand why people can’t warm to the guy but what has semtex and hardy done to warrant such animosity?
by paolo on Oct 13, 2009 8:14 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I dont get it either. I am an American, and I am a big fan of all the brits you mentioned. Poor semtex hasnt said a word, he stepped up on short notice and fought a stud in his octagon debut, and Knocks him the Fock out…yet still no LOVE!
Hardy is awesome! always improving and a great showman with an entertaining personality. He will become a top fighter sooner or later!

Wow your the best fight analyst there is. The key to winning is to punch him fast! Yeah it has nothing to do with trying to out pace Swick. You have to mess up his game, shoot for a takedown so he doesn’t come gunning in to take you out. Hardy has no ground game as well. and how the hell is this a number one contender match? Swick hasn’t beaten any top ten contenders in either weight class he’s been in, and Hardy got a lucky decision over Akhiro and Davis. Neither of these guys would stand a chance against GSP and I would never pay to watch them fight him. I would however pay to watch Daley punch their cocky faces in. I’ll go on a limb and say that Daley KO’s both those jokes.

It should be a pretty good fight, although the winner hardly provides a contender for the dominant GSP.

ya but can you really think of anyone at ww who does? If Swick wins I think he will deserve it more but if Hardy wins the UFC has another brit to push on the UK and we will see GSP vs. Hardy in the UK I agree with you though GSP is so above both these guys but then again they have a punchers chance and pull out another Serra upset highly doubt it though

No-one can touch GSP that is the problem. Jake sheilds to come to the UFC but St-Pierre would steamroll him anyway.

I agree, I like Hardy, and think he has more potential than that moron BIZZZZPPPPIINGG to be a great English fighter. I think he has a fairchance of beating Swick… but should he get a title shot he will be mincemeat.

mane i could see swick ktfo this douche bag swicks got faster hands and better ground game i though the last guy hardy fought won and gsp would smash his face in worse than he did to fitch

Aren’t you the ignorant one for assuming he is a “yank”? A lot of people cant stand Hardy, myself included.

Yeah, I’m a Brit and I can’t stand Bisping OR Hardy, I think they talk too much for what they’ve actually achieved, which ain’t much really.
I’m hoping to see Swick vs Daley though, I like the way Semtex fights and I’d love to see Swick try his powder-puff punches against him.
Why do people keep talking about Swicks speed?? He rushes in, chin-up, wind-milling punches in a straight line.
No-one can convince me that he’s technically a better striker that Hardy or Semtex. I just don’t trust the guy…his hair’s greasy…his eyes are racist, there’s other things.

RK: Just coz he has a different accent than you doesn’t make him a douche, fact of the matter is the entire welterweight division should be worried about Hardy. In the words of Marc Delagrotte “He’s dangerous Marcus! He’s dangerous!” Hardy has vicious strikes. look what happened to Davis’s face. This guy is gonna make a living out of smacking around yanks so I suggest you get used to it and stop sucking on the nipple of ignorance when it comes to nationality of fighters.
You got my support Hardy. Kick his ass!!!!
by fantana817 on Oct 12, 2009 10:43 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
lmao, the fact that he fought a split decision with Marcus Davis proves he’ll only be a force against B level fighters. Dan Hardy is a farce.
by Cogito Ergo Sum on Oct 13, 2009 8:20 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Fantana, I have nothing against his accent it has nothing to do with that I just think he is a douch, its the way he carries himself. He is a good fighter but I dont think the whole division needs to be on watch for hardy, he would not stand a chance against GSP.
by RK on Oct 13, 2009 10:39 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
not the biggest swick fan but have a feeling he’s gonna knock this beat this dude up
by nick on Oct 12, 2009 10:50 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
My feelings exactly nick. Just never really like Swick, but I cant pinpoint why.
Doesnt really matter who wins this fight, because GSP is going to absolutely tool either of them.
PS – I too felt Davis won that fight against Hardy, although Hardy did inflict more damage.

i hate when people are like “yea but whoever wins poses no threat to gsp”…that is the most retarded remark on this site…NO ONE poses a threat against gsp…hes the best ww on the planet…
im probably gonna get flack for this but i think the only person who has any chance of even giving gsp a chance is kos in a rematch…gsp’s gameplan is the same now…takedown control inflict damage…repeat…and hes the best in the world at doing it…kos is the only person in the division who has a chance at his style..
yea i realize in their first fight gsp outwrestled kos and controlled kos on the ground…but i think kos underestimated gsp’s ground game, i think he truly thought gsp had no chance of controlling him the way he did…
but that was the biggest step up in competition for kos, gsp destroys hughes but couldnt finish kos…i think kos comes in a rematch more prepared for the wrestling game…hes the only person in the division who even has a chance on the ground against gsp…
plus its clear that kos has ko power…he is the only person who can give gsp a fight on the ground…
id love to see that rematch….
no im not saying kos could beat gsp, id certainly put my money on gsp, but i think hed give gsp the toughest fight of any ww out there right now
by HellaHectic on Oct 12, 2009 11:00 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
To be fair, I think GSP fought a VERY conservative/safe fight against KOS. It was his first fight after losing the title and he wanted to get back into title contention right away. The GSP that fought Kos is not the same GSP in the 5 fights since.
by Shadyone33 on Oct 12, 2009 11:20 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
nah i think he came in there to prove that his loss was a fluke and that he was still the most dominant ww in the world…and i think the ufc fed him kos for the specific reason that they thought gsp was gonna completely slaughter him to prove that…
kos had never faced a top contender and the ufc figured gsp would leave him a mangled bloody mess in probably the 1st or 2nd round but that didnt happen…gsp couldnt finish him even though he controlled every round…
in the past several years kos has given gsp his toughest test…he certainly gave a better performance than hughes, the serra rematch, bj, fitch, or alves…
like i said, i dont think kos could beat gsp in a rematch but i think it would be a good 5 round war…id love to see it…kos has ko power and hes the only wrestler who would even have a chance to counter gsps dominance on the mat…
by HellaHectic on Oct 12, 2009 11:53 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
The difference is that these two guys have fought nobodies aside from Marcus… They literally are irrelavant and I would not consider either top ten fighters. They dont’ deserve to be in the same ring as GSP, thats why people are saying they are going to get tooled.
by Cogito Ergo Sum on Oct 13, 2009 9:54 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Well put Shadyone. Totally agree. Though I do agree overall in the fact that I feel Kos poses the greatest threat since GSP already ran through Fitch and Alves.
And I dont feel its a retarted comment because I think he has proved that there is no one in the weight class that poses ANY threat – he hasnt lost A SINGLE ROUND ON ANY JUDGES SCORECARD since the 2nd round of the Kos fight. And call me crazy but I for one do not consider either Swick or Hardy elite fights compared to the rest of GSP’s resume.
by WB on Oct 13, 2009 12:02 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Shady I agree with you on this and have atually had this same conversation a few times with different friends. Yeah GSP controlled him but he did not sustain all that much damage, he was controlled. It was only a 3 rounder, but if you look back at how GSP had mashed mmost of his opponents, KOS walked away virtually unscathed all considering. Anyway I would love to see him get the rematch nod now that he has developed a much better standup game. IS it on GSP’s level, no, but he can take a big shot-sit in the pocket, throw the big shot, and possibly get back to basics and defend the take down as best as possible. Would he win, maybe not, but I do believe he has one of the best chances.
As far as HArdy and Swick go. I don’t think hardy has faced anyone who hits as hard as Swick. SWick has a good chin th eonly guy to ko him was Leben, who has big heavy hands. I know HArdy has not been ko’d yet but it could be that with te exception of Davis he has not faced anyone with hands.

I hope swick shuts this guy up if not gsp will
by denni on Oct 12, 2009 11:24 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
yea i think swick wins this pretty easy, hes just to quck and technically and plus the people he spars with everyday are just too damn good…
id like to see gsp and swick go at it standing up…i think it would be a great striking fight…it would be even i think…of course gsp will take it to the ground and gnp him to a dominant destructive win..
but if him and swick went toe to toe for the entire fight it would be a great fucking fight, swick is quick as fuck, it would be a great stand up war….but it wont happen
by HellaHectic on Oct 13, 2009 12:09 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Dan could be the champ by Feb. or March. I could see him catching GSP on an off night and getting the belt. Gsp would get an instant rematch and likely win it back.

Good fight, thankfully this is the co-main event instead of Bisping-Kang. Hardy’s good but I think Swick is more well rounded and has faster hands so he’ll get the better of Dan in this one, hopefully Hardy can give a good performance and prove that he can hang with the top fighters of the division. Swick has looked better recently at WW but he hasn’t beaten any decent competition at this weight class and Hardy will be his biggest test so far at 170 especially in front of a packed pro-Hardy crowd, while Dan has never been in a fight anywhere near as big as this so it’ll be interesting to see how he deals with the pressure.
However I’m not interested in seeing GSP face either of them as it would be a massacre, both would struggle against Alves and Fitch nevermind GSP. I’d rather see the winner face another top ranked opponent, either Swick-Semtex which would be a great striking match especially because of their rivalry, or Hardy-Kos, before either of them were even considered for GSP. I’d rather wait for GSP to return at 100% against a suitable opponent than have him rushed back to fight someone not in his class.

I think Swick wins this unless he gets caught with a shot which is always a possibility. Hardy looked pretty clueless anytime Davis got him on the ground (and I’m another who thought Davis edged that fight). I don’t think Hardy is hiding any amazing ground skills like he’s suggesting. He just hasn’t got them. Not yet anyway. Swick is much more rounded and should win but if they are both swinging leather anything can happen.

i hope they both knock each other out because neither of them have a chance against GSP.

Swickitine rd 1, after Hardy realizes he’s not faster, Swick hits like a middleweight, hardy goes for takedown and swickitines chokes the smacktalk out of his face.
