Torn MCL forces Mark Coleman out of UFC 106 fight against Tito Ortiz

If Tito Ortiz plans to make his much-anticipated return to the Octagon at UFC 106 on November 21, he'll have to do it against someone other than Mark Coleman.
Mike DiSabato from MMA Authentics has confirmed that "The Hammer" has a second degree tear of his medial collateral ligament (MCL) and will be unable to compete at the upcoming event in Las Vegas.
While Ortiz "tweeted" earlier today that Coleman had "sissied out," DiSabato contends that the "Godfather of ground and pound" asked to have the bout rescheduled for January 2 to allow the injury to heal.
At this time, the UFC has yet to announce any changes to the scheduled fight card or confirm the injury report.
UFC 106 will feature a main event heavyweight title bout between two absolute monsters as champion Brock Lesnar will look to defend his gold for the second time against his newest challenger, Shane Carwin.
Stay tuned to MMAmania.com for more updates on this developing story.

Tito/Vera makes much more sense to me then Vera/Couture…

How about tito/couture, nah tito is afraid of randy.

Nah, Vera-Couture is better for it is a better skull in Vera’s vanquished foes collection…

Tito should fight jardine… its kind of a good thing mark coleman got injured… the poor old man would have gotten his ass handed to him

Jenna has some updates on her myspace saying that Mark and his “manager” are running her name through the mud and talking a bunch of shit. just figured I’d pass it along :)

Sucks that Coleman had to pull out. It was nice seeing him get a win even though I hate his emotional personality. I still like to root for the older guys.

This is actually a blessing. Now we we have better chance of Tito losing when they bring a replacement.. I hope they give him Bones
by Lestat on Oct 6, 2009 11:44 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Nearly everyone relevant is tied up with fights. The only one I can really think of is Jason Brilz or maybe elliot marshall. I think those would be interesting matchups for ortiz. But they both just fought in Sep. Maybe Matyushenko (but he also fought in Sep.?
by Cole on Oct 6, 2009 2:45 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Yeah’’’ it would be amazing to see Bones ‘Beat Tha’ Hell outta’ Tito’! cause that’s what will happen, Tito doesn’t have to much of a chance of taking Bones down.

The UFC has NOTHING to gain from that

Isn’t Jon Jones prepping for a bout against Matt Hamill? That’s a more compelling fight for both men.

Tito vs. Jardine or vera as replacement.
by natedog77 on Oct 6, 2009 11:45 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Vera’s fighting Randy in the UK…Jardine sounds good
by McArthur on Oct 6, 2009 11:46 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Jardine’s prob still under medical suspension courtesy of Thiago’s fist.
I doubt he would clear to train in time.
by Big Zino on Oct 6, 2009 12:09 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Jardine won’t fight Tito because Rashad has no plans to rematch Tito.

I’d rather see Tito/Vera and Couture/Jardine!
by shonuff on Oct 6, 2009 1:08 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
yeah Nate, like I said before makes a whole lotta sense to me against vera…much more than Vera-Couture.

I think Jon Jones is a good shout or Lil Nog or Luiz Cane?
by Dixon on Oct 6, 2009 11:48 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
I think Rogerio and Cane are actually set to fight each other.
by Pat on Oct 6, 2009 12:32 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Heard that also but i also heard that neither of them really wanted to take the fight. So this would be a perfect solution
by Dixon on Oct 6, 2009 12:35 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I think that’d be good. I’m sure Forrest would love to avenge that BS decision loss to Ortiz.
by shonuff on Oct 6, 2009 1:09 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Everyone I know thought Forrest won that fight. It was a close split decision, but it should’ve gone the other way.
by shonuff on Oct 6, 2009 2:27 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Razor thin on the 10 point must. In terms of damage overall Tito won it but could have gone either way with the UFC scoring IMO.
by Nick J on Oct 6, 2009 2:30 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
The first fight was close but forrest would win this time for sure.
by mma guru on Oct 6, 2009 2:30 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I don’t see how ANYONE could say that Tito won that fight.
Unless you were drinking massive amounts of alcohol while watching.
by KS on Oct 6, 2009 3:03 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Agreed. I understand what Dana is saying about not barring alcohol from the TUF house, but they should at least bar it from the judges table!!! Esp. when Forrest fights, cause I think they were drunk when they scored his fight with Rampage too.
by shonuff on Oct 6, 2009 6:04 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Forrest won that, usually UDs are not controversial!

I think Forrest is still recovering for a dislocated jaw. Little Nog is not a bad idea.
by Mr. Jitters on Oct 6, 2009 11:59 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Lil Nog is scheduled for 105 and Forrest never had a jaw issue.
Match Ortiz up with RASHAD.
by GG on Oct 6, 2009 12:12 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Lil Nog’s fighting Cane at 106, chance for either of them to get a higher profile fight on the same card if Tito will accept. Both would be much more dangerous opponents than Coleman.
by David W-S on Oct 6, 2009 1:09 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I’d really like to see Tito/Lil Nog.
I’m so glad Tito is back!!! The UFC LHW division has changed so much and there are so many new and exciting opportunities for him to get his a$$ handed to him!
by shonuff on Oct 6, 2009 6:08 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
That’s not a bad idea. Rashad Evans still needs a fight now that Rampage is out.
by prokstar on Oct 6, 2009 12:13 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
give tito a test right off th ebat i say give him Jardine. Jardine needs a big name in order to become relevent again
by ralphie on Oct 6, 2009 12:11 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Jardine TKO’d two UFC champs and has fought 4 TOP-5 guys in the last 2 years. I’d say that’s pretty relevant. He may not be a threat to the title, but he’s still a TOP-10 contender. He’s way more relevant than Vera (who he beat)!
by shonuff on Oct 6, 2009 2:59 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
he barely beat Vera and clearly took more damage in that fight.
by frosnt on Oct 6, 2009 6:10 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Ok, Jardine TKO’d Forrest, but I am drawing a blank on the other champ? His win against Chuck was a split decision.
by naturalshadow on Oct 7, 2009 1:59 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Yeah he didn’t TKO two former champs. Just defeated both of them. He did fairly well against Rampage too. Jardine is a tough guy and a great fighter. He just has a suspect chin. He needs to work on defending that more than anything because he is a great fighter and I actually had him picked over Thiago.
by RyanHobbs on Oct 7, 2009 6:08 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I bet UFC give Tito a can to fight.
With Rampage out of sight, Tito is the only other big mouth for the UFC….Pretty sad. They’ll protect Ape Head for sure.
Regardless…
I vote for:
Lil Nog
Jones
Vera
Jardine

this is good. Mark Coleman needs to realize that he’s too old to fight anymore, his body is only going to continue to breakdown. I know I for one, did not want to see this fight.
by Anthony on Oct 6, 2009 1:05 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Agreed, you have to feel for Coleman. He was just at the top at the wrong time and is broke now.
Its like an advanced version of bum fights. Give it a couple of years and he’ll tattoo TAPOUT on his forehead for $10.

I like Tito vs Rich Franklin. Both are big names. Both want to prove they can still fight big guys at 205. It would be a good match.
by shonuff on Oct 6, 2009 1:13 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
i sorta feel sorry for coleman, the guy is obv only fighting at his age so he can provide for his family, and all in all for someone who most think is past it, has done pretty well ok he no randy, but even tho he has lost majority of his last fights they have been against top opponents shogun twice fedor and cro cop
hopefully he puts a spanner in UFC and tito’s plans by smashing him in the new yr!
WAR OLD SCHOOL FIGHTERS!!!

Not bad. I’ve often thought that if Bonnar had gotten the fight with Tito after TUF instead of Forrest, he might’ve become the fighter Forrest became. IMO the Forrest/Bonnar match was a draw and the main reason Forrest progressed so much further was that he got better opportunities based on that “win”. If Bonnar had the same opportunities, he might have grown just as much as Forrest did. I know that’s way off topic, but I just wanted to throw that out there.
by shonuff on Oct 6, 2009 1:23 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Actually, I thought both the Forrest/Bonnar fights were draws. Come to think of it, I thought Forrest/Tito and Forrest/Rampage were draws too. They say Forrest works harder than anyone in training, but in all his recent fights he’s looked like he’s only putting half his effort into it. Maybe it’s just his gangly awkward style, but until he gets cut or hurt, he looks like he’s just playing around sparring.
by shonuff on Oct 6, 2009 1:26 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
didn’t Bonnar get popped for steroids?
by cheshirewulf on Oct 6, 2009 1:37 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
a while ago, yeah. I think the time off is over though (not sure)
by GreenStar on Oct 6, 2009 2:37 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Franklin just fought, he not gonna fight Tito so soon. Vera is fighting Couture, Hamil is fighting Jones, Jardine, Forrest and Franklin are on suspension I think and none of them will be fighting so soon, Lil Nog and Cane are set to fight, Rashad and Silva are set to fight as well… Just about all the top LHWs are set to fight. Just leaves the Bonnar who’s rumored to be thinking of cutting down to MW and Schafer who is a pretty good well rounded fighter just not that popular. I wanna see Tito vs Seth! lol
by jaime on Oct 6, 2009 2:06 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Well, if it’s too soon for Rich or Forrest. Let’s switch things up a bit.
Tito vs Thiago
Randy vs Rashad
Vera vs Who-gives-a-shit
OR
Tito vs Vera
Randy vs Jardine
OR
Tito vs Lil Nog
Randy vs Rashad
Thiago vs Cane
Greg Jackson vs BJ Penn’s mom

Rashad would be way too quick for Randy. That would be another TKO for Rashad easily in my opinion.

Tito vs Wandy…both are coming off surgeries claiming to be “new and improved”. Should be a major draw. (Though I think Wandy’s chances are better at MW)
by shonuff on Oct 6, 2009 2:25 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Plus Wand might want to avenge his loss to Tito from back in the day. I would say its up to Wanderlai as plenty of stories came out about how tough it was for him to get down to 195 (the catchweight against Franklin)….185lb Wanderlai Silva may never happen just because he cant get his weight down there.

Even worse, Kimbo challenged Tito on Twitter, he’s already claiming that he was joking but still wanted to hear back from Tito. That fight would bring in a huge buyrate, along with Lesnar-Carwin, but would be one of the saddest sights since Shogun-Coleman.
by David W-S on Oct 6, 2009 4:00 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Tito is Kimbo’s worst nightmare, a brutally strong Ground & Pounder with great takedowns. Kimbo would be on his back faster than he can say “Knowhatimsayin” and would never make it back to his feet. …and here I was thinking Kimbo was a fairly smart guy! Of course, that would be a HUGE money fight for all involved and if Kimbo is just in tit for the payday win or lose, he couldn’t do much better than Tito for a big draw opponent. Maybe Kimbo thinks that since Tito doesn’t have all that extra weight in fat, he’d be able to get out from under him…but he would be wrong. Tito is every bit as big as Kimbo and a much better wrestler than Roy Nelson. I’m sure if Tito caught wind of this rumor he is at Dana’s feet this very moment praying for it to come true. Big bucks against a sitting duck is Tito’s M.O. It’s better than fighting Ken Shamrock 3 more times!
by shonuff on Oct 6, 2009 5:03 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Haha i can’t even imagine the # of PPV buys that would do.
by frosnt on Oct 6, 2009 6:15 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Agree completely mate, Kimbo would get destroyed by Tito, other than Houston I couldn’t think of a better fight for Tito stylistically and both would make a lot of money from that fight, especially if it happens on the same card as Brock-Shane. Personally I think that Kimbo was joking around but would take the fight if offered and I bet Tito would be quite happy to take an easy tune-up fight that would be a huge draw, seeing how he was happy to destroy a washed up Shamrock all those times.
by David W-S on Oct 6, 2009 6:21 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Save that one for later. Hendo hasn’t even re-signed with the UFC yet and still has his eye on the MW belt.
by shonuff on Oct 6, 2009 6:02 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Tell you what they need to do…Dana made up with Tito, so let him make up with Frank Shamrock. Frank gave Tito the worst beating of his life and I can’t think of anything more fun than watching him do it again!
