i dont understand these odds can somebody please explain ? im from uk and used to seeing it like… evens or 2/1,
3/1 4/1 and so on so if i put 1 pound on at 3/1 i would win £3 plus get my pound back
by boyer on Oct 4, 2009 12:53 PM EDT up reply actions
basically if you bet on machida u have got to put £450 on him just to win £100 more.if you put £100 on shogun you win £325.thats the easiest way i can explain it.

-420:
you need to bet 420 to win 100
+330:
if you bet 100 you win 330
by shamo84 on Oct 4, 2009 2:20 PM EDT up reply actions
It’s pretty much the same, just with a decimal point shift. Take Shogun/Machida. “-450” on Machida means you have to risk $450 dollars just to win 100 back from the bookies (you’d get $550 back in total). So, negative values indicate favored fighters. The “+325” on Shogun means you only have to risk $100 to win $325 from the bookies ($425 total). That means positives are dogs.

they should just write the odds like 3.25 on Shogun instead of the + and -’s so you could understand better.

Bader’s a fantastic fighter and the definite favorite in that bout, but +500? Given Schafer’s ground game that seems like a nice upset line.
by Tony on Oct 4, 2009 11:27 AM EDT reply actions
yeah, I alreday laid some chump change down on Shaefer!
by john G on Oct 5, 2009 7:37 AM EDT up reply actions
U got $ on shogun john? I know you got him for the upset. Personally i didnt see any value in that fight. Maybe at +400 or more i would think about it and i never usually bet on favorites when they close in on -500. That’s how people got @ssraped by gsp or lil nog or kid for this yr.
by NameNotRequired on Oct 5, 2009 8:20 AM EDT up reply actions
yeah, i got some money on Shogun, shaefer, cain, joe daddy,oKami
I also have a parlay with:
Cain
JOe Daddy
Okami
Contemplating betting some money on Yoshida to upset Rumble!
by john G on Oct 5, 2009 9:37 AM EDT up reply actions
Good parlay. I would say there is value on yoshida. Good grappler with a clinch game. i bet after seeing the kos fight AJ will be head hunting the whole time too but they could set up clinches when he overextends. We saw what Clementi did to AJ but there is a chin issue there even if Zenko can take a shot and that clementi fight was taken on 1 wk notice.

agreed! But since I like a lot of the favorites on this event..I need some good dogs with value: I think shaefer, and Yoshida are worth a small play!
who do you plan on betting brother?
by john G on Oct 5, 2009 10:07 AM EDT up reply actions
LOL it wouldnt be worth putting any money on shogun, even if machida is at -800 john. I see a huge mismatch. If rashad was made to look in slow motion with his hand speed, i dont see shoguns slow looping punches giving the dragon any problems. the fght wont make it out of the first. lyoto by tko

I actually really like your parlay -daddy, okami, cain and might throw in barry. I’ll do some small change on eric as a single bet. Even smaller change on Ben, which i might actually parlay with Barry instead.
by NameNotRequired on Oct 5, 2009 11:19 AM EDT up reply actions
So far I got money on Joe Daddy straight up at -200 when he opened, and I got a 3 fight parlay with 3 easy winners:
Machida
Cain
Joe Daddy
I’m taking that parlay to the bank with a 1.33 times payout (approx)
by ViolentMike on Oct 5, 2009 11:56 AM EDT up reply actions
yea…well red showed he could be in trouble against a decent (albeit chinless) striker in houston alexander and pull out a win…we will see what he can do with an elite wrestler…this is probably the best fight to pick the underdog on in this event…
by salamagogo on Oct 4, 2009 3:48 PM EDT up reply actions
He might be able to blanket him, his win over Miller was pretty impressive
by frosnt on Oct 4, 2009 4:26 PM EDT up reply actions
Only one shot of tequila in your morning protein shake from now on.
Isn’t it great to have so many devoted fans to pick up on ALL your mistakes!?!?!?
I almost fell off my chair when I saw Machida at -450! At that number it’s like the odds makers are saying Rua isn’t even a real challenger. Put in Seth Petruzelli if that’s how big the difference is, really.
by Freddy on Oct 5, 2009 12:36 AM EDT up reply actions
freddy it doesnt matter who you throw in against machida, the odds would be the same. Even if it was against brock lesner, machida is in a league of his own. even anderson silva has said in the past machida basically oicks him apart during sparring, and will never fight him. mot just because they are friends, but because machida would make him look foolish. MUAY thai or other forms of fighting are useless against his karate.
by curly on Oct 5, 2009 11:08 AM EDT up reply actions
Its crazy to me that they arent giving Shogun a chance at all really. If this was 2 years ago, it would be the opposite. I am with Machida on this one, but I still think Shogun has a chance.
by enzo-enormous on Oct 4, 2009 12:15 PM EDT reply actions
Also, I might have to put some money on Shogun just because it is looking so nice.
by enzo-enormous on Oct 4, 2009 12:16 PM EDT up reply actions
Why don’t you just give your money to the poor if you’re looking to do some philanthropy?
by frosnt on Oct 4, 2009 4:45 PM EDT up reply actions
Reminds me of Vegas Vacation. “Just give me half of what you planned on betting, We’ll go out back, I’ll kick you in the nuts, and we’ll call it even.”
by naturalshadow on Oct 4, 2009 6:28 PM EDT up reply actions
haha I hear ya. Im just saying that its gonna help alot of people make some dough if Shogun gets the upset.
by enzo-enormous on Oct 5, 2009 11:06 AM EDT up reply actions
Odds are all fairly accurate, tho upset wise I’m looking @ rothwell cause I think Cain is very overrated thus far. And I like fisher a lot so I’m still pulling for him over ‘daddy’.
And that bader fight is hard not to be on with those odds.
Machida
Rothwell
Johnson
Fisher
Bader
Okami
by Daniel worby on Oct 4, 2009 12:36 PM EDT reply actions
Time to START thinking aout it? I’ve been thinking (and placing a few wagers) for weeks now. Maybe I have a problem. I too was surprised at Bader being -500 right out of the gate. Prob is some value on Schaffer but i dont think I’m going there. Mostly I’m just going deep on Johnson. I also like Machida, Cain , and Johnson parlay. I like the King Fisher as much as the next guy but I’m including Daddy on a couple very small parlays. I thought there is possibly a little value on Sonnen since he and Okami are about equally talented grapplers and Okami hasn’t been in the octogon for almost a year.
by naturalist on Oct 4, 2009 2:09 PM EDT reply actions
yoshiyuki better not try and stand with rumble..on second thought he might have no choice as johnson is a badass wrestler too…i still say rumble is the only current welterweight in the ufc that might have a chance against gsp…rumble vs swick for #1 contender and have hardy fight yoshida..guess its a little late for that matchup tho…

lines posted here are bad.
Pinnacle has Machida at -408

I cant believe Joe Daddy is the fav over Fisher. Stevenson is so overated.
by cancrusher on Oct 4, 2009 6:25 PM EDT reply actions
yea…I believe that as well…not a big diego fan or anything, but he nailed it when he said joe daddy hasnt evolved…I predict joe will keep going for takedowns as thats his best bet here
by salamagogo on Oct 4, 2009 11:32 PM EDT up reply actions
How are Barry and Hardonk both (-)? I’m not a betting man but I’m used to seeing one (+) and on fighter (-).
by BeerMan on Oct 4, 2009 7:43 PM EDT reply actions
Both – on 2 fighters just means that Vegas lines etc aren’t willing to pay out or take a gamble just for us to win. The fight is too close to call in their opinions so they let them play as evens.
No overdog or underdog
by Daniel worby on Oct 4, 2009 9:57 PM EDT up reply actions
Lol no worries Beerman.
I actually preferred ‘thank daniel’
It lead me to believe you were threatening/telling others to thank me, thus making me feel powerful. ;)
My life is average

Eric Schafer is gonna pull the upset. The guy has more experience and is very well rounded. Smart money is on red.

Cain is the future….
Shogun has a small chance and would not be shocked if he won
by Robert(1) on Oct 4, 2009 9:04 PM EDT reply actions
I dunno man…we all saw kongo drop him several times…I can only imagine what would happen if he took a solid shot from carwin…he needs to train like 75% standup and the rest ground/submission…im no greg jackson or anything but its obvious where he needs work…will be rooting for shogun, btw, but heads goin with lyoto
by salamagogo on Oct 4, 2009 11:29 PM EDT up reply actions
I think I was more impressed with the fact that he took those shots and didn’t get knocked out….why is this card so far away?
by Robert(1) on Oct 5, 2009 8:32 AM EDT up reply actions
it means if you put a dollar on Shogun and Yoshida to BOTH win, you will lose a dollar.
by naturalist on Oct 4, 2009 11:24 PM EDT reply actions
And If I Was to put a Dollar on Machida and Johnson to Win? How much would i win?
by Drock on Oct 4, 2009 11:54 PM EDT up reply actions
How about a Rua/Schafer parlay? That has real potential.
by Freddy on Oct 5, 2009 12:38 AM EDT up reply actions
Thanks for not being bothered by my attempt at humor. If you make a wise parlay like Johnson(-300) and Machida(-450)(BET US.com), each dollar you put at risk will win you 63 cents. So if you put $100 on that 2 fight parlay you will have $163 at the end of the night. If you did a 3 fighter parlay and included Velasquez, each dollar at risk would win you $1.21.
If you had 100 to risk this fight I would put 50 on johnson, 35 on Machida/Johnson, and 10 on machida johnson, velasquez, and 5 on machida/johnson/velasquez/stevenson.
by naturalist on Oct 5, 2009 12:45 AM EDT reply actions
Why Won’t Anyone Answer My Question :( I Just Wanna Know What A parlay Is!
by Drock on Oct 5, 2009 3:23 AM EDT reply actions
I believe this is when the winnings of one bet are used as the wager for the next. So called accumulator.
by CasualFan on Oct 5, 2009 7:48 AM EDT up reply actions
It looks like you’ll be making no money off betting on Machida and Bader.
