Not gonna end well for Shogun – kinda wish he was fighting someone not at the caliber of Machida quite yet – id like to see him showcase more of his skills on someone else, Like a Franklin or Hamil type of fighteter..

So here’s a question for all…who is next in line for a title fight after this fight if Machida is victorious? Silva/Evans winner has already faced Machida recently and lost decisively.

I say give the next shot to Dan Henderson. If there not gonna give him one at MW give him one at LHW.
by mma guru on Oct 2, 2009 2:23 PM EDT up reply actions
I have a bad feeling that it’ll be Randy if he beats Vera…if not, than maybe…huh…good question.
by McArthur on Oct 2, 2009 4:27 PM EDT up reply actions
Yeah McArthur I feel your right if randy wins either that or he waits for the winner of Silva and Evans who were both defeated by Machida, Little NOG if he wins easily or maybe Machida will test the HW division until a #1 challenger comes but it most likely will be Couture I think Hendo really wants another shot at the spider.
by Puck Head on Oct 2, 2009 4:39 PM EDT up reply actions
McArthur is right for sure. It will be Randy if he wins. But he probably will not

Horrible fight for Shogun, Machida has better striking, cardio and wrestling as well as improving BJJ, like Andy, GSP, BJ and Fedor he is a complete martial artist with better all round skills than anyone else in his division.
Shogun only got this fight because of his Pride reputation and Rampage being a headcase, not because of his form and I don’t see what he can do to beat Machida. He won’t land a clean strike, he won’t take him down and thus he won’t be able to attempt any submissions, Lyoto is going to pick apart, frustrate and tire out Shogun.
As soon as this fight was rumoured I guaranteed victory for Lyoto and nothing will make me change my mind, I’m up for any name bet with the Shogun fans. Nobody is beating the Dragon anytime soon, unless him and Andy fall out, Gegard signs with the UFC or he moves up to HW to take on Fedor and even then Machida would have just as good a chance as his opponent at winning.
by David W-S on Oct 2, 2009 8:09 PM EDT up reply actions
I guarantee this will be the toughest fight of Machida’s career! PERIOD!
by john G on Oct 2, 2009 8:58 PM EDT up reply actions
idk remember what people said about the shogun griffin fight lol this sport is built on upsets so dont be to ready to write of shogun just yet. He could do the same thing to machida that forest did to him.
by Preston B on Oct 2, 2009 9:43 PM EDT up reply actions
I’ll be willing to take that bet David if you’re man enough – I am absolutely positive that Shogun will at least give Machida the fight of his life, even if he loses. However, my official prediction for the fight is Shogun destroys Machida in the clinch and finishes him off on the ground by TKO. I’m betting $40 on it – how much are u betting on Machida?

Like I said a almost a year ago, you can put Shogun in the same category as W. Silva. DEVASTATING in PRIDE, but we will never see that fighter again. Nothing Shogun has shown since coming to the UFC makes me think he would be a favorite against Rashad or Thiago, let the fuck alone Machida. Don’t let the UFC marketing machine fool you, Shogun is going to get destroyed. If PRIDE Shogun showed up, we would have the makings of a classic. Unfortunately, that guy is gone and isn’t coming back, sorry John.
by Diceman on Oct 2, 2009 11:22 PM EDT up reply actions
I got $200 that wins me $800 that says Shogun will win!
Diceman: Big difference between wand n Shogun. Shogun hasnt been through all the wars, and shogun is still so young that he is about 4 years away from his fighting PRIME, which is more then enough time to get that UFC title. No doubt in my mind that we will see the UFC title around his waste…and IMO there is a good chance that he SNATCHES IT from my boy, Lyoto!

Exit The Dragon…..Shogun will win, bank on it!

Sorry Stink- I think the Gun is firing blanks against Machida. Beating some guy that used to be Chuck Liddell doesn’t sell me on a Shogun who barely beat Coleman, and was subbed by Forrest. Ask CroCop how much winning a Pride tournement several years ago helps a fighter kick ass in the UFC. Machida has pretty much clowned everyone he has faced, in every round.

me too boys!
And winner by knockout Mauricio “Shogun” Rua
this fights ending on the ground boys!!!!
by Jared on Oct 2, 2009 1:48 PM EDT up reply actions
Yes shogun will be on the ground by the end of this fight, however Machida will still be standing.
by mma guru on Oct 2, 2009 2:24 PM EDT up reply actions
Machida is built completely around aggresive fighters… he is the least hit fighter in MMA history only gets hit once every 2.5 rounds because once he picks up on your timing he can predict every punch or kick your gonna throw for the rest of the fight and i dont see how you can beat someone like that.
by Mylah on Oct 2, 2009 2:59 PM EDT up reply actions
Stink: im with you brother! Shogun! Shogun! Shogun!
by john G on Oct 2, 2009 8:59 PM EDT up reply actions
I do, Shogun by sub….if Tito can get him in a triangle, I don’t understand why more fighters have not taken him down more…..
by Robert(1) on Oct 2, 2009 1:27 PM EDT up reply actions
Lyoto has excellent take down defense so I think it’s easier said than done. I think shogun will do ok he does have a chance to beat Machida. He has gradually progressed in every fight since his injury. Hopefully he will come out in Pride form this time. He will have to in order to win.
by jimmy_dean on Oct 2, 2009 1:39 PM EDT up reply actions
Imagine, if you will, that taking someone down was as simple as landing a single punch on that person.
Now imagine that person is Lyoto Machida, who gets hit once in every couple of rounds.
Now imagine that you have to do a lot more than land a single punch to get him down.
Now you should have a rough understanding to “why more fighters have not taken him down more”
by Chalkbot on Oct 2, 2009 3:50 PM EDT up reply actions
yeah but not many fighters have really even attempted to take him down, can you tell me one fighter that has gone for a double leg takedown on him? because i cant…
by brendan on Oct 2, 2009 5:02 PM EDT up reply actions
it took tito 3 roundsto getmachida down and look how much of a beating he took lol when guys come for machida he hits em with that straight right everytime and packs a good punchj too lyoto gunna hold this belt for a long time imo
by boyer on Oct 3, 2009 5:03 AM EDT up reply actions
I have the same felling…. still i hope Shogun knock him out
by ThiagO on Oct 2, 2009 2:38 PM EDT up reply actions
So here, basically Shogun is sayin that to beat Machida, he will have to use the same mental gameplan the Machida uses, in other words beat him at his own game ……. BUAAA HAHAHAHAHAHAHA… Not gonna happen

I don’t see how shogun can take this one. He is aggresive. Thats his only style. I see him losing in the third by KO
by Carnage on Oct 2, 2009 1:36 PM EDT reply actions
No one can is elusive and can counter like machida.
by nathan on Oct 2, 2009 1:53 PM EDT reply actions
you cant forget about shogun chin either unlike rashad he can take a blow…..i see this fight going deep in rounds if not all the way
by bigsmoke on Oct 2, 2009 1:57 PM EDT reply actions
I agree with you 100 perecent on the chin. Shogun has the ability to take incredible amount of punishment and keep standing. Shoguns chin will be the factor in this fight. He will stay in the pocket alot longer than most fighters have lasted becuase of his chin. This will allow him to use his sick knees and elbows. Look at Tito, another fighter that can take shots he was in the pocket with Machida for a while and didn’t get KO’d. We all know that Shogun mixes his strikes very damn good better than Tito, This of course will allow hom to do more damage to Machida.
Again all this talk i hear about Shogun being overly aggressive is nonsense. I know alot of you guys think Chuck is overrated and thats why Shogun looked so good. Judging by the way Shogun fought against Chcuk i would say Shogun did a good job off not being to aggressive and picked his shots very well. I think he is mentally strong enough to do this against Machida as well. Lets not fool ourselves we all know that Shogun with damn good cardio will kill Machida end of story. I hope Shoguns training camp has him training for 1 10 minute rouns and 4 5 minutes round just to ensure his endurance through the fight.
by Danny_c on Oct 2, 2009 3:09 PM EDT up reply actions
Everyone has a good chin before they fight Machida. Machida is the creater of weak chins!

Danny_c-
“Lets not fool ourselves we all know that Shogun with damn good cardio will kill Machida end of story”
What has Shogun displayed in his career that Machida doesnt already do? Considering each fighters record, if there are any similarities in style or capability then Machida has clearly been doing them on a much higher level being undefeated.
by Machine on Oct 2, 2009 6:36 PM EDT up reply actions
Man you guys are full of nonsense. So glad some1 else said it before I did. How the hell are we fooling ourselves saying machida wouldn’t lose if Shogun had full cardio?
Are you kidding? Maybe that would’ve been a respectful statement if you said that was ur opinion, not telling us its ours. Or maybe if the guy that would ‘automatically lose’ wasn’t undefeated and holding the lhw belt.
Ur whole post was deemed useless by those few poor choices of words.
Machida will dominate. Too bad he is gonna be like a 5 to 1 favorite against Crocop 2.

good call i think shogun has a better chance at winning than anyones giving him.

Lol Jesse, judging by the amount of posts in this thread, and their content, I’d guess you think Shogun has the same odds of winning as I do(pretty close to zero).

omg wow this is going to be good… IF shogun comes into the fight in shape… if not 1st round ko via the NINJA Dragon

Machida via KO no later than the end of the 2nd. Write it down Jesse!

Hmmmm. I find it funny that all the fighters that Machida has beat are considered to be B and C lever fighters on other threads and posts by the same guys that are giving Machida the win 100 percent. Some of you guys even gave his last oppenent a nick name….Thiago “overrated Silva”. Then you guys make Machida look like he has fought top flight competition. Ortiz, Sokodjou, Thiago, Rashad??? Arent this the same guys that some of you on here claim to be big time over rated? everyone in this site is entitled to thier own opinion. when i post my comment up top a couple of you guys went out of your way to make me look stupid. The truth is that i’m not a MMA god nor do i claim to be one, I haven’t been following MMA for 20 years, and nor do i train any form martial arts. I have been following MMA for a little over 4 years and 1 thing i know is that anything can happen in MMA. Arona, Rampage, Lil nog, Overeem are just some of the few that shogun have fought. I bet 2 out of those few that i named will go throught the same fighters that Machida has beat as well.
by Danny_c on Oct 3, 2009 6:30 PM EDT reply actions
did you guys forget shogun had a knee surgery before the griffin fight… and reinjured it again training for griffin? He was training for less than 6 months out of 18 months. I don’t even know why he took the fight against griffin still if he was hurt. -400 underdog… shogun would be a value bet
