I think if he was going to return they would just tell us like last week when they told us he was fighting this week

Roy did not impress me at all. That was some of the weakest GnP I have ever seen. I think Cain Velasquez hits harder. And I predicted Roy to win the whole thing.
Kimbo impressed me with some sort of fundamental TDD. Hard to believe but it looked like he improved just a bit. His humility makes it hard to hate him.
by OJR on Oct 1, 2009 9:11 AM EDT up reply actions
It’s not possible to do crazy gnp from crucifix position unless you have him looking up or have lesnar reach. That’s why good wrestlers GNP from half guard or side control. I am mad that Roy didn’t go for the sub. It still doesn’t get more dominant than that. Effortless work and the opponent doesn’t defend one shot. If he had gotten that same stoppage with Arlovski (had he not been stood up in EXC) then everyone b!tching would be all over his nutsack right now.
by NameNotRequired on Oct 1, 2009 9:21 AM EDT up reply actions
NNR-
I disagree. Hughes crucifix is brutal and very effective.
Roy was disappointing. Let’s hope he improves his performance.

yeah going to dvr the rest of the season. there is no reason why kimbo should come back. jones can’t fight? ok then put in the 5 other guys to mix it up and let him fight after them.. hello
by Mikeybear on Oct 1, 2009 9:52 AM EDT up reply actions
NNR- I just posted almost the SAME thing in the Recap thread about not being able to generate much power from that position.
Also- think that SPIKE will do this at the end of every episode? Tease the audience into thinking Kimbo could fight again? I wouldn’t put it past them.
by Synyster on Oct 1, 2009 10:05 AM EDT up reply actions
he’ll fight again at the finale for sure…my bet is that was the only reason Dana signed Seth…Kimbo is just too small at HW…he looked better but no where near UFC caliber…weak season if you ask me and should be won by Roy or Sims…
Good post NNR…

wtf? kimbo has been training mma for at least 2 years now and that is all the ground game he learned from bas rutten etc.?
it looks like he just started.
by shamo84 on Oct 1, 2009 10:12 AM EDT up reply actions
Come on Hughes even with his strong base and pressure didn’t hurt bj. Penn was just too gassed and couldn’t move from the busted rib to do anything and just like in this fight Big John simply stopped it coz BJ could get his hands out to defend and wasn’t bucking. Roy was disappointing only in that he didn’t catch a sub against someone clearly unaware of what he’s doing. He would have done anything he wanted – straight armlock, a kimura, a keylock, an americana, a neck crank from that crucifix position.
by NameNotRequired on Oct 1, 2009 10:14 AM EDT up reply actions
Bas dumped him for not paying attention, thinking he knew everything, etc., so he probably didn’t learn as much from Bas as you or I would have if we had that opportunity.

Kimbo has developed some wrestling defense but his Jits is really bad, he’s mentally weak on the ground, he just flops like a fish. Kimbo needs to dedicate wrestling n’ jits 5 days a week 4-hrs a day at least for a full year! He should have already been doing it! Not to mention studying videos’ AnYthinG jits n’ wrestling whenever possible!
by DAVE A on Oct 1, 2009 1:24 PM EDT up reply actions
There is no way Roy wins this with Wes Simms in the house. I like Kimbo, I find his wrestling has gotten much better. His strking is good but he’s gonna have to do something about his Jits.
As for Big Country. Sit’s on the guy’s & punches like a fly. Man…
I hate that Dana is now using Kimbo for ratings. He might be back…blablabla. I wanna see good fights, no drama.

His stand up all around improved for sure even the way he moves around setting up his strikes and defence against looked pretty good and like you said his TDD was improved but still not were it needs to be and if he does get another chance thats what I would be working on most of the time because no matter how hard he works on his ground game in the time he has on tuf he will get worked on the ground by most of the fighters. Yeah Roy is big but you can not let him past half gaurd otherwise his weight and skills will be hard for any HW that is under 240 with limited experience to get out of but if you can keep roy at gaurd like you said OJR his strikes are not all that powerful you should be able to wear out the big man enough to get it standing again. The reason I think roy doesn’t throw the big bombs is because he knows he will tire to fast as he has in the past.
by Puck Head on Oct 1, 2009 9:27 AM EDT up reply actions
Yeah but those were less than normal punches. he was dropping his fist on Kimbo as if Dana told him to go easy on Kimbo… Just wierd to me. Especially when you are at the end of the round. You could tell the ref wanted to jump in. Again, almost as of Dana told the ref not to jump in too early.
by neeko on Oct 1, 2009 9:30 AM EDT up reply actions
No the ref realized the time was short and Kimbo was moving the second time the ref realized Kimbo didn’t have the ability to get big roy off of him and stopped the fight because there was a lot of time still left.
by Puck Head on Oct 1, 2009 9:36 AM EDT up reply actions
I agree Puck, I was watching the clock in Round 1 as well.
He just saved Kimbo the embarrassment of laying there defenseless for another 3 minutes. Roy was doing something, it’s not important it was ineffective, they were still unanswered blows.
The uproar when they stood Thompson up from the same position that they were favoring Kimbo was deafening. I wish I could go back and find who complained about that and compare it to the list of people bashin Big Country now.
by Jas on Oct 1, 2009 10:58 AM EDT up reply actions
Thompson’s blows were concise and alot stronger than Roy’s.
Also, Thompson was in the half guard. Roy’s huge girth covered Kimbo’s entire upper body and face.
Roy pit patted his dome like he was an amateur boxer in the Olympics.
Not a valid comparison at all.
by OJR on Oct 1, 2009 12:17 PM EDT up reply actions
well his return might not be next week..but definately at some point this season…thats why we werent told straight up…but he will 100% fight again
by newfie on Oct 1, 2009 9:19 AM EDT up reply actions
HES ALREADY SAID HES TRAINING AT ATT FOR A FIGHT AT 107 IN MEMPHIS! IF he does come back he will just get beat again… if he came back and won then he would fight at the fight night not the ppv. use some logic here, its just a marketing ploy to try to keep the ratings up
by sac165 on Oct 1, 2009 9:46 AM EDT up reply actions
NOPE!!! He is fighting at the Finale, it has just been confirmed! But he is training at ATT!
by john G on Oct 1, 2009 10:21 AM EDT up reply actions
Let’s get real..Roy was weak and all he did was lay on Kimbo. The last thing the UFC needs is another boring ass wrestler. he was scared to stand and bang and no one wants to see that
by Bambam on Oct 1, 2009 8:03 PM EDT up reply actions
When will the Kimbo show end, other than the coaches he’s the only person getting any promotion and TV time. I understand ratings are important but the Nelson fight proved that he is the same fighter that he was in Elite. He isn’t going to fight again so why build the whole show around him, now that he’s lost give some of the other guys some TV time. At this rate nobody is going to know anything about the finalists and the winner won’t have any fanbase at all.
by David W-S on Oct 1, 2009 9:17 AM EDT reply actions
I would like to see Wes back myself out of the three losers as long as he is willing to work on his cardio the man can hang with anybody on the show and if it wasn’t for his brutal endurance could of beat Evans #1 pick?
by Puck Head on Oct 1, 2009 9:34 AM EDT up reply actions
I agree. If he can work that, I see him as a force to be reckoned with after the show. Plus the guy as a person is entertaining as hell.
by neeko on Oct 1, 2009 10:18 AM EDT up reply actions
yeah I just realized that. Although Sims cardio is also questionable. Doesn’t have that many fights that went past 1st or 2nd round.
Not a fan of Shivers. Then again I don’t know much about him…
by neeko on Oct 1, 2009 1:19 PM EDT up reply actions
David: I could be wrong, but I swear I saw Kimbo beating the crap out of someone that wasnt Roy in a TUF Promo a while back.
I agree that non of the other contestants are getting any love, then again so far, none of the ones that fought are worth talking about…although I do like the 2 dudes that fought in the 1st fight. McSweeny has some nice Muy tai, and could be decent if he cuts to 205 and gets IN SHape! AND THAT DUDE WES SHIVERS has POTENTIA and is a legit HW….If that guy gets in shape, he might Kill someone!
I dont know about you, but I would love to see an in shape Marcus vs. an In shape Shivers…thats a battle between 2 monsters! Book it for the finale dana!
by john G on Oct 1, 2009 10:28 AM EDT up reply actions
Shame that Shivers and Jones have no cardio as they are both monsters and if they were younger and in fighting shape then they’d have potential to make a decent run at HW.
As for that clip I’ve seen it and I’m not convinced that that was Kimbo, it was hard to tell but I think that it might have been Marcus pounding on that guy. Marcus definitely fights as another preview showed him just before a fight so there’s no chance that Kimbo is fighting again next week. I wouldn’t be surprised if he never fights again on the show but is still advertised as possibly fighting to trick his fans into watching.
by David W-S on Oct 1, 2009 12:21 PM EDT up reply actions
No way, there is a clip of Marcus entering the Octagon for a fight in the TUF promos. Once again they hype it up.
by john dosey on Oct 1, 2009 9:29 AM EDT reply actions
i was thinking he was just tired coming back to the house after a work out like Shivers he has brutal cardio and was probally just fatigued.
by Puck Head on Oct 1, 2009 9:39 AM EDT up reply actions
It looks like Kimbo is beating some dude against the cage in the promo. Maybe he will get another shot but not next week. Dude needs to learn some side control escapes. Basic jiu jitsu. Someone buy this man some Eddie Bravo dvd’s or robert drysdale…. something. He didn’t even attempt to escape from side control cause he didn’t know how. For f-ck sake grab any blue belt from any gym and say hey can you show me side control escapes? There are about 7 different ways to escape learn 3 of them like your life depends on it. With all that is on the line I just don’t understand how these guys can show up so unprepared.
by hatteras on Oct 1, 2009 9:37 AM EDT reply actions
I don’t see how anyone feels that Kimbo does deserve to be there. The show is Called The Ultimate Fighter, not The Next Houston Alexander.
I suppose some of you think The Jonas Brothers are a legit rock band too.
Dana jumped the shark with the Kimbo show, big time.
by El Mexicutioner, formerly The Mexicutioner on Oct 1, 2009 9:38 AM EDT reply actions
good post but I can’t blame Dana for giving Kimbo a shot and cashing in…the whole cast of TUF 10 is weak imo…Sims and Roy are the only 2 guys with a shot
by McArthur on Oct 1, 2009 10:20 AM EDT up reply actions
U think Sims has a shot? really? Personally I think, I could hang with Wes!
by john G on Oct 1, 2009 10:30 AM EDT up reply actions
Same here it’s really frustrating, I wouldn’t mind if he had have shown at least some improvement on the ground in the Nelson fight or if he wasn’t the only one getting TV time but it’s getting ridiculous now. Nothing against Kimbo being on TUF but I am getting sick of the Kimbo show and how he has dominated the MMA news for weeks now.
by David W-S on Oct 1, 2009 12:24 PM EDT up reply actions
After last nights performance, I’m not excited to see his potential return. Weak!
On a personal note, he is a very likeable guy.
by The Buffalo on Oct 1, 2009 9:54 AM EDT reply actions
What’s up with the “Dana told Roy to go easy on him” conspiracy theories? Roy HIMSELF stated before the fights that the rules call for a TKO stoppage if you are on top landing relentless pillow punches. So many morons act like Dana is behind EVERY detail or action in MMA. Ridiculous.
by Johnny on Oct 1, 2009 9:56 AM EDT reply actions
agreed! Dana wasnt even happy with Roy’s performance, so why would he have set it up that way….I cant stand conspiracy theories!
by john G on Oct 1, 2009 10:31 AM EDT up reply actions
I can’t wait for next week!…… bunch of bulls*it!!!!!!!!!!
by BarrioVanNuysXIII on Oct 1, 2009 10:09 AM EDT reply actions
I don’t see why anybody should believe any of the hype coming from Dana or anybody else in the UFC about Kimbo or anything else on this show. They knew weeks ago that the Kimbo-Nelson fight was nothing but a big waste of everybody’s viewing time, but they hyped it as “the most significant fight in UFC history” anyway. Let’s not get fooled again.
by steven on Oct 1, 2009 11:00 AM EDT reply actions
what I found interesting was Dana still singing Kimbo’s praises and beating down Roy after the fight .. looked like things didn’t work out after the show for Roy and he got booted and Kimbo stayed … so easy to fit interview scenes after the fact. In summary the lame season still continues .. although this show was a lot better than the first two episodes.
by commoner on Oct 1, 2009 11:55 AM EDT reply actions
It seemed to me Dana was bitter that Kimbo got beat.
by markie on Oct 1, 2009 12:17 PM EDT reply actions
Jones definitely fights, there’s a video of him walking out to the tuf cage to fight.
by mack3333 on Oct 1, 2009 1:43 PM EDT reply actions
I will only be interested to see him fight another striker, if he fights another wrestler everyone already knows what the outcome will be.
