Surging 170-pound strikers Mike Swick and Dan Hardy are on a collision course for UFC 105 in a potential number one contender match from the Manchester Evening News (MEN) Arena in Manchester, England, on Nov. 14.
According to MMA Fanhouse, the proposed bout would leave Dong Hyun Kim without an opponent. "Stun Gun" was originally set to face "The Outlaw," however it appears the UFC is shuffling the deck to draw a contender for current champion Georges St. Pierre in early 2010.
Swick pushed his undefeated mark in the welterweight division to 4-0 after a "quick" technical knockout of Ben Saunders at UFC 99: "The Comeback" back on June 13.
That performance, coupled with his tenure in the UFC since debuting on the inaugural season of The Ultimate Fighter, had the Texan in line for a title shot against "Rush" with a win over Martin Kampmann.
Things didn't exactly go as planned.
After Swick was dumped on his head during training and got yanked from the fight when it was revealed he suffered a concussion, "The Hitman" was shot down by Swick-placement fighter Paul "Semtex" Daley at UFC 103.
Kampmann out, "Danny Boy" in.
Hardy is coming off perhaps the biggest win of his career — a razor thin split decision over Marcus Davis at UFC 99: "The Comeback" in June 2009. It was a super close call and one that had most mixed martial arts fans divided right down the middle.
Nonetheless, it was the third straight win for "The Outlaw" inside the Octagon and his sixth since a disqualification loss to Yoshiyuki Yoshida in late 2007. In fact, Hardy has won 11 of his last 12 fights, including a devastating first round knockout of Rory Markham and a split decision win over the venerable veteran Akihiro Gono.
The blooming British star has not had an easy road since his debut for the organization, and that difficult journey will continue against the American Kickboxing Academy combatant.
UFC 105 will also feature hometown favorite Michael "The Count" Bisping taking on Pride FC standout Denis Kang and former champion Randy "The Natural" Couture returning to light heavyweight to battle Brandon "The Truth" Vera.
