Let me remind you Forrest…..you knocked the FCUK out!

by The5thBeatle on Sep 27, 2009 9:52 PM EDT reply actions

you’re right he did GET knocked the fock out in one of the MOST EMBARRASING KO’s in MMA history!

I’m not sure Franklin/Forrest makes sense, shouldn’t the UFC be RE-building two of it’s most popular and fan favorite fighters?? A loss could badly hurt either one!

don’t get me wrong tho i’d love to see it and think it would be a fantastic fight, just not sure it makes business sense right now anyways!
Maybe flip flop around and have:
Forrest/Bahna
Franklin/LiL NOG

then again who knowes how long anyone (ex: Rampage) will be around so i wont COMPLAIN about getting good fights outta guys while theyre still here!

Wasn’t impressed by Forrest attitude… Hope he’s saving his money!

That was a very awkward interview.

by Dsmith on Sep 27, 2009 11:21 PM EDT up reply actions

Farra has interviewed forrest dozens of times. It’s not the interviewer, it’s griffin. His shtick has run its course and it’s not just not funny anymore. It only worked when he was doing good not when he was absolutely murdered after thinking his “underrated” groundgame and an extra 25 lbs of water weight would do anything against a fleet footed striker.

Match him up with the loser of Cane-Lil Nog or put him in there with Jon Jones. Stylistically Forrest would have nothing for any of them besides cardio.

by NameNotRequired on Sep 27, 2009 11:28 PM EDT up reply actions

socalstun~

if forrest fought luis cane he would get embarrased just the same

and lil nog vs franklin would be a very great fight, but i feel nog would get the best of him..

they might as well just have them fight eachother and have one of them lose, rather than risk them both losing.

on the other hand, i would love to see banha make a name for himself by making the fight look like griffin/andy part 2!~

and like i said lil nog/ franklin would be a great fight.

by stinky~fingers on Sep 28, 2009 12:35 AM EDT up reply actions

Stink,

I agree Cane would annihilate Forrest and didn’t think about them both potentially losing instead of just one.

I don’t know, I think franklin would pick him apart and he is well rounded eneough and has a s olid enough ground game
To keep his head abov water!

Who ya got in Buentello/Duffee

by SoCalStunNa on Sep 28, 2009 2:44 AM EDT up reply actions

Duffee is a brilliant prospect. You just have to watch his fight with Assuerio Silva to see this kid is special. Buentello is merely a grizzled vet to give him ring time and a notable name on his record. Terrible defensive wrestling, sub par grappling game, questionable cardio -stylistically, Paul doesn’t have much to offer him except for the proverbial “puncher’s chance.” We might get answers about his chin but otherwise think, Velaszquez-Kongo II.

by NameNotRequired on Sep 28, 2009 8:09 AM EDT up reply actions

Is it just me or is anyone else starting to get annoyed by Griffin? I’m not sure what it is, but lately, he is less funny, and more abrasive. Also, what fighter says he’s tired of fans looking up to him?

He needs an attitude check.

by Cole on Sep 28, 2009 8:50 AM EDT up reply actions

socalstun~ i really like this duffee kid from what ive seen..

i think buentello is a good step up for him, and a good matchup for the fans to see how good todds stand up is..

i hope he doesnt ko paul arlovski style 10 seconds in..

i would like to hope buentello can make it last long enough to see how todds chin is, as well as how his cardio fairs after fighting for a round..

either way im looking forward to this fight..

i’ll take duffee via 1st round tko.. this kids hungry..

FINALLY YOU FOCKERS OPEN YOUR EYES!!! Finally I can bash the crap out of Griffin in peace without getting crucified. Griffin isnt GOOD!!!! HE is a tough guy, but he int very skilled. Griffin as a top fighter was an illusion created by the UFC to sell tickets….The hoouse of cards has FALLEN. I am thrilled to finally see you guys opening your eyes and seeing him for what he really is a c-level, b-level-at-best fighter!

No one said he was A GREAT FIGHTER you nub.
People, including me, liked him cause of his careless attitude and cause he will fight anyone.

He just got destroyed by the BEST FIGHTER ON THE UNIVERSE so I don’t think he’s very happy right now. You can really tell in this interview.

Good day. ;)

John – just for the record, I have never been a Forrest fan. I can appreciate his drive and his willingness to bang, but as you said, he has always been overrated in the skills department. Unfortunately he is one of Dana’s “chosen ones,” so he is going nowhere anytime soon.

by Cole on Sep 28, 2009 1:16 PM EDT up reply actions

I dont thhink Forrest will ever beat fighters like:
tHiago Silva
Rashad
Rampage (rematch)
Shogun with 2 acl’s
Rogerio
Banha
Franklin
Hendo
Machida
anderson

He can put up a good fight against those guys with his toughness, Size and Randy’s gameplan’s…but he should be fighting guys on his own skill level such as:
Hammil
Jon jones
Tito
Jardine
Vera

by john G on Sep 28, 2009 2:26 PM EDT up reply actions

I honestsly feel that Forrest/Anderson was one of the most embarrassing performances that i have ever seen in a big fight. Can anyone recall a more embarrassing outcome of a major fight? I sure as hell cant!

well, he WAS beating Rashad for 2 rounds…

by Synyster on Sep 28, 2009 2:41 PM EDT up reply actions

That’s an excellent list John. At this point i think Bones has surpassed him. I don’t think Forrest would be able to deal with his wrestling or standup for that matter. He might try to outcardio him but i don’t think greg j would allow that.

by NameNotRequired on Sep 28, 2009 3:03 PM EDT up reply actions

Syn: Congrats on Forrest winning 2 rounds against Shad…problem is, he got KTFO in the 3rd, so I really dont get the point in bringing that up as if its some kind of accomplishment…especially since it was a 5 round fight! On top of that, Rashad is a historically slow starter who usually gives away the 1st round anyway so am I really supposed to be impressed wit him winning the 1st few rounds of the Rashad fight? Not to mention I am still not really sure how good Shad is, because he really hasnt beaten anyone legit…His only wins are against fighters that the UFC marketed to be better then they actually are. Jury is still out on Rashad, in my eyes!

People. You are such dramaqueens. Is life really this though? All you do is write one negative comment after the other.

And by the way. He’s right. I also thought this was a fighting sport. Not some reality show where people make pop with their mouths. Their’s way to much “childrens playground” in the UFC.
He has a right to be fed up.

by SnakeG on Sep 27, 2009 11:00 PM EDT up reply actions

I only recognize a couple of regulars on this thread.. sometimes knuckleheads just show up and pop off, then never to be heard from again… anyway Forrest tried to fight Silva like other’s wouldn’t. Forrest stood toe to toe with possibly’s MMA’s best lb for lb fighter ever’ and he got immediately KO’d for it. The guy is one of the hardest working fighters out there, won the title through hardwork, which was consider way beyond his talent and capabilities, which more talented fighters will NEVER achieve. I’m impressed with his efforts and success. Forrest could have stuck around after the loss with Silva, but he bolted… if that’s the worst thing a fighter ever does other than shooting their big mouth off, I’ll accept it and root them on! Forrest attitude is as expected, his demeanor hasn’t change he is still the same joking self-deprecitated character he’s always been. It’s cool if u don’t like him… we all have our own favs n’ losers… but Forrest has always been humble a hardworker and loyal fighter willing to take on anyone… I have a lot of respect for him and hope he bounces back with a ‘W’.

by DAVE A on Sep 27, 2009 11:22 PM EDT up reply actions

DAVE, I assume you are a Forrest fan and I respect that. But in my opinion he was always a marketing ploy to get a certain demographic interested in MMA and it WORKED!!!! Bonner Vs Forrest spells target audience!!!!!Both have recieved alot of preferential treatment (Why is Bonner STILL in the UFC) and one of the only wins I truly respect of Forrests is Shogun (All excuses aside.)Oh and I do think he was robbed against Tito, but Tito was a big shot then and Forrest was rewarded for that loss with an undeserving win against Jackson. All in All, I think he is a very overrated fighter and the treatment he recieves for being a mediocre fighter and poster boy may be why people have such a problem with him…………Just my 2 cents……. Lil Nog would be his best opponent because he would not humiliate Forrest with strikes, or some no name to rebuild his shattered rep……

by ItsCalledMMAnotUFC on Sep 28, 2009 3:44 AM EDT up reply actions

ICMU, believe it or not, I’m not a Forrest fan, I was surprised as anybody to see him get so far. Bonner is still in the UFC for obvious reasons… also he’s come back from a long layoff due to a serious injury and like Frank Mir… the UFC is going to give him time. Forrest gets some preferential treatment like all other very marketed fighters plus he was the 1st TUF winner. I watched the Jackson vs Forrest fight 3 times because I was shocked that Forrest won… the last 2 times I watched it, I realized that Jackson did not win and the Forrest win was legit. Anyway, it is no secret when UFC fighters are popular they get preferential treatment it goes along with the territory.

by DAVE A on Sep 28, 2009 11:39 AM EDT up reply actions

meh, Forrest tried to fight Sylva just like everyone else. try and go toe to toe. Franklin did it twice, Hendo did it. Nate tried. and certainly Leben tried as well. What made things interesting is that Forrest said he wasn’t going to do that, based on the success rate of others before him. Then he did what he said he wouldn’t, not only that but he quit like he said he wouldn’t.
DId he really win the title? many say “no”. did he defend it? “no”, should he have had a title shot to begin with?I don’t know. Im biased because i never thought he was very good. There are alot of humble hardworkers out there, and most of them don’t run out of the ring but I don’t actually think he’s so humble. but i think this fight humbled him. or not, based on that interview.
WHo knows and quite frankly who cares.

by katch-22 on Sep 28, 2009 6:12 AM EDT up reply actions

There are a lot of humble hardworkers out there… no doubt, but did they win TUF? Did they work their way up the ladder coming close to and also beating opponents that were consider way above their skill level? Did they win a title no one thought they had a chance to win “no” Running Out of the Cage is lame… is tapping a bad thing?… there was no doubt Forrest was practically out’’ and survival instinct comes into play… including ‘tapping’ they’re trained to do that… and it can often happen even if u say u would never quit in a fight. As far as Forrest running out of the cage, pretty lame, but I get more pissed off when I see a fighter mouthing off on the mike showing his IQ of 60. Did Hendo quit vs Silva?… looked like he gave up the neck to me (I’m a hendo fan btw), quiting happens. Anyway, I don’t think Forrest is very good either, but he had a good run that he’ll probably never have again, he made the most of his chances because he worked really hard and it paid off, if nothing else he should be an inspiration to fighters that are considered to have less talent and with hardwork and dedication u can make it to the top even if it’s just for a brief moment… many fighters dream of doing just that.

by DAVE A on Sep 28, 2009 12:02 PM EDT up reply actions

Agree Dave A. Here’s the other thing. Psychologically going up against someone like Anderson who is just in another league can really mess with your head because you see for yourself where you “are” in the pecking order. To know you’ll never get to "that" level is demoralizing. Rich Franklin commented after training with Silva’s camp that there’s no way he could go back to 185.

What is amazing to witness here is the rapid evolution of MMA. We’ve got a few athletes now who have evolved much quicker than others and who are approaching this new ideal. This new high level is where natural talent, gifted athletics, ideal genetics, crazy cardio, superior speed and flawless technical skill are the new “norm”.

We’ve all seen this new breed of fighter evolving but it hasn’t reached its pinnacle yet. We’re just seeing a preview of what’s to come. We’ve seen the transition between classic MMA fighters and this new breed and now we’re seeing another evolution from the new breed to an even higher level. I suspect that in 3 years things will have evolved to the point where even some of the current new breed of MMA fighters will look like today’s old school, classic MMA fighters.

Until more fighters make the evolutionary jump, you’re going to see the few who have, face those who haven’t or can’t, and will witness absurd disparities between champions and their contenders.

Awkward, very awkward. Non-sequitor comments and lots of avoidance. He was totally uncomfortable. I wanted to hear his viewpoint on Anderson. Expected in typical Forrest style for him to say something like… “that dude was fast, kicked my ass” or something but this… ehh… leave much to be desired.

I am surprised because I’m sure Dave prepped him on the buzz around the vacuum he created when he dashed out of UFC 101. I think this was his first “public” appearance in the last (almost) 2 months.

I like Forrest. He’s a great character for the UFC and he’s got a hell of heart and has fought some tough dudes and has had some very very memorable fights. Let’s not forget he helped put the sport on the public map in a big way.

On the flip side, what I hate to see (with any fighter) is the beginning of that streak of knockouts that inevitably lead to more knockouts and a career downturn. Let’s hope we’re not witnessing that here.

by mmajunkie on Sep 27, 2009 10:28 PM EDT reply actions

mmajunkie, u want Forrest to say the obvious? Is that really necessary? I’m sure there’s more interviews to come.. eventually he will… other than that I ‘really’ like what u had to say, especially about the KO’s leading to more, I thought the exact samething. I’m seriously hoping it’s just Silva making him look bad rather than the alternative. Good comment, not like the other knuckleheads on this thread.

He’s never liked himself. His humor has always been self-depricating. But you’re right. I think he is pretty down on himself right now. I think he needs some time off to enjoy his new wife and get some distance from the fight world and let some of this funk cloud dissipate.

by shonuff on Sep 28, 2009 3:41 PM EDT up reply actions

You guys who say he’s a douchebag and talks about how awesome he is has obviously never watched him fight. He’s always dissing himself about he doesn’t have the best technique. And yeah he’s not the best, but one thing is true at least. He will fight anyone at anytime. You can’t hate him for that. Nobody wants to fight Silva, he took the fight even though everyone knew it was a bad match-up for him. The UFC is forever grateful for that and has the best fight ever against Bonnar. The UFC is going to keep him around for that. No doubt!

by Crivas on Sep 27, 2009 11:27 PM EDT reply actions

by Conan the Barbarian on Sep 28, 2009 12:55 AM EDT up reply actions

Dude, cut him some slack! He never wanted that fight with Anderson. He knew he was being set up to get clowned on to make Dana’s pet spider look good after 2 boring fights that had audiences booing the P4P king. Forrest still worked his ass off and gave it 100% hoping he could do a little better than expected. He did worse than anyone imagined after all those months of work, Silva made him look like a retard. Who wouldn’t get emotional!!! The UFC deliberately used him as a target-dummy to make Silva look good. How would you feel if your boss did that to you in front of the whole world and your fiancee??? Forrest has never been a to-3 caliber fighter, but he’s busted his ass and made it to the top of the heap without ever getting cocky. That deserves your respect regardless of his fighting skills or how emotionally devastated he was. I’d rather a fighter run off to the locker room and get his tears out than cry on camera or talk a bunch of BS and make excuses like a lot of em do.

I know that he is not the best fighter in the world, however he is a good fighter and puts on a good show. Hes right this is a fighting sport, but the fans are what make this sport a sport. I have lost some respect for him after that interview and think he should get his head out of his ass and get back to fighting.

“he will control every part of this fight”

please~ were talking shogun here..

shogun isn’t some new fighter that just came along!~ he has back 2 back ko’s as well.. and his are probably more impressive than machida’s.. shogun ko’d overeem and arona in the same night!~ hows that for back 2 back?

don’t let rua’s fights in the ufc warp ur mind..

it’s the year of the gun, baby!~

His ko over coleman was impressive lol, that was the most embarrassing fight in ufc history. Machida will tool him.

wow, cant believe how negative people are about forrest on this blog. forrest has always been a funny in interviews and i think intentionally akward in character. he seems like a great guy and ya’ll are bashing him for very dumb reasons. forrest has some amazing kicks, stikes, and is ALWAYS pressing the action, ALWAYS! if you dont like that i dont know what you’re looking for

by j-izzo on Sep 28, 2009 1:04 AM EDT reply actions

Yeah, all these fair-weather fans piss me off! These guys are still human beings with feelings! Beleive it or not, they don’t live and breathe just to entertain us. He just had his pride shattered and got totally humiliated in front of the woman he’s about to marry and you b1tches think his first thought should be to take care of YOUR need for post-fight commentary! Get over yourselves! Buncha self-important piss-ants! No wonder he doesn’t have anything to say to you. You turn your back on him at the drop of a feather.

If Dana ever lets Chuck come back Forrest would be the perfect fight for him.

by revjames13 on Sep 28, 2009 1:07 AM EDT reply actions

AGREED!!!Great fight!!!!

by ItsCalledMMAnotUFC on Sep 28, 2009 3:49 AM EDT up reply actions

yeah, Forrest would be a safe fight for Chuck, or he could fight Coleman. Neither of those guys has the knockout power to pose a health risk for Chucko. I’m not saying Chuck would necessarily win, just that Dana wouldn’t have to worry about him getting seriously hurt.

What the..? Forrest is a douchebag now… He was being a total dick.

Acting like he can’t handle people and kids looking up to him now (that he’s lost and can’t handle it)…

I’m tired of this piss ant. That’s too many times that he’s acted stupid after losing. It’s like come on dude, man up and take your lumps…

you’re a pro fighter that fans pay to watch…THAT’S why you should answer their questions….

I loved the jogging crack…ZING!

i would actually enjoy seeing a forrest-tito 2 i think. it wld be interesting. a very disputable outcome in the first one. now forrest has kind of gotten a little more experience, notice i said a little, tito is trying to make a comeback. so i say after he destroys coleman lets see him and forrest again

by mrc on Sep 28, 2009 1:50 AM EDT reply actions

i thik forrest should move up in wieght and fight lesner….that is a fight i wouldn’t mind seeing!!!!!

I’ve lost some respect for Forrest after the way that he handled losing to Andy, he should have shown the superior fighter more respect and actually stayed in the octagon to congratulate him, instead he ran off like a bitch and bailed on his commitments as a fighter to speak to the press and the fans. In this interview he still is acting like a baby, the fact that he hasn’t gone back to training is pretty pathetic in my opinion. He looks like a broken man and for a fighter whose main strength was his spirit this could be the end for him as a LHW contender.

by David W-S on Sep 28, 2009 7:16 AM EDT reply actions

I believe running out of the ring is definitely unsportsmanlike. But in that fight, andy was also partially disrespectful. It’s like we get it, your an amazing striker. But he should have finished griffin off and not keep letting him get back up, so he can show the fans he can strike.

Let alone going back to Andy’s last fight where he was kicking the front of the dude’s knee (classless) or punching toes, (looks stupid).

Anderson is a much better fighter then Forrest. Anderson should have finished him off the second time he got knocked down. How was that fight going to end, Andy keeps letting him get up so he can try to knock him out on his feet? Thats how boxers get brain damage.

Finally we hear from this punk. This dude has issues, I know he likes to clown around but seriously you’re acting like a retard. This is your job, talk with some intelligence about what you do. Don’t act like you don’t know what happened in your last fight, either talk about it or tell people that your happy to move on to your next challenge. Don’t be a pu**y about it and say you don’t remember.

by MXN on Sep 28, 2009 8:43 AM EDT reply actions

I guess i won’t ever see a rematch between Forrest and Shogun.

by Danny_c on Sep 28, 2009 9:15 AM EDT reply actions

Feeling’s mutual…he’s tired of talking and I’m tired of listening to him.

by introvert on Sep 28, 2009 9:52 AM EDT reply actions

Ya and alot of people are tired of listening to you.

by mma guru on Sep 28, 2009 2:16 PM EDT up reply actions

ahh this guy has a long way to become an MMA legend or icon or ambassador for the sport. I know the UFC pegged him and wanted him to be the new “posterboy” after Chuck, but that aint gonna happen! He is overrated, not consistent, smug attitude and a sore loser.

I sometimes wonder if that is the way he really is, or is he just trying to be funny. Either way, it seems his attitude is getting worse and worse, and if you lose a couple more times………………..your outta here, and i for one wouldnt miss him. I kinda wanted to learn to liek the guy, but there is just somethign about him that i just dont like and this video just confirmed it more for me!

I hope he fights Rich so Rich can knock him the F*** out or i hope he fights the Cane or Rogerio, either one of them would destroy him!!!

by manalito on Sep 28, 2009 11:10 AM EDT reply actions

Dear Forrest,
You are trying to hard to be funny. It is coming across pretty lame and desperate. If you were doing stand up, I would probably run out, just like you did after your loss to Anderson Silva.

by doubled on Sep 28, 2009 12:16 PM EDT reply actions

Great idea, guys! Let’s talk trash about him and kick him when he’s down! That’s sure to make him realize how important the fans are and how much he owes us for sitting on our fat asses and entertaining ourselves at his expense! That’s sure to make him feel better and bring out the best in him!

by Ronin on a River on Sep 28, 2009 3:57 PM EDT reply actions

what happened to Forrest? he was a special guest at an event in VA back in 2006 and he was one of the best guys to be around. Now he sounds like he doesn’t want the attention that got him to the top. idk whats going on with him.

by Nate on Sep 28, 2009 7:16 PM EDT reply actions

same thing that happened to Vitor after his first fight with Couture…he got his spirit broken. Only time will tell whether “the old Forrest” will ever come back to us.

by shonuff on Sep 28, 2009 11:44 PM EDT up reply actions

What an ass, “you showed your jogging skills after the fight”, very awkward interview, forrest looked out of it, and seemed out of breath, maybe silva gave him a little brain damage.

by nathan on Sep 28, 2009 9:51 PM EDT reply actions

Dude, he just got married! Got schooled by Silva and then MARRIED! Talk about “out of the frying pan into the fire”!!! He’s obviously a glutton for punishment!

by shonuff on Sep 28, 2009 11:42 PM EDT up reply actions

I used to be a fan of Forrest. Now he is a db. He isnt even a gracious loser, running off like that… its just a shame really. I hope Dana shows him the door

by MJ on Sep 28, 2009 11:35 PM EDT reply actions

im sure if he won he’d talk to the public…….such a bad loser don’t even look like he wants it anymore….he’s lost his edge big time….he talked how anderson might win but he’ll never break me……he did just that surprised to see him still around

by ziggy on Sep 30, 2009 3:08 AM EDT reply actions

Regardless of the Silva fight, I still think he’s a great fighter and will eventually bounce back.
