UFC Fight Night 19 fighter salaries and paydays for 'Diaz vsGuillard'

The Oklahoma Athletic Commission today released the official fighter purses for those who competed at UFC Fight Night 19: "Diaz vs. Guillard" last Wednesday night (Sept. 16) from the Cox Convention Center in Oklahoma City.

Former Ultimate Fighter Nate Quarry was the big earner of the night, pocketing a suitcase-busting $60,000 for his winning performance over fellow TUF alum Tim Credeur.

Fresh on his heels was another reality show veteran Nate Diaz. Not only did the Stockton native bank 30 G's for tapping out "The Young Assassin," he also racked up $48,000 for the second round victory.

Like Diaz, former WEC stud Carlos Condit took home $48,000 -- and a few lumps from a very game Jake Ellenberger, who earned $10,000 in a losing effort.

Here is the complete list of UFC Fight Night 19 payouts:

Star-divide

Nate Diaz $48,000 ($24,000 to show, $24,000 to win)
Melvin Guillard $14,000
Diaz defeated Guillard via submission (guillotine choke) Round 2

Gray Maynard $24,000 ($12,000 to show, $12,000 to win)
Roger Huerta $21,000
Maynard defeated Huerta via split decision

Carlos Condit $48,000 ($24,000 to show, $24,000 to win)
Jake Ellenberger $10,000
Condit defeated Ellenberger via split decision

Nate Quarry $60,000 ($30,000 to show, $30,000 to win)
Tim Credeur $10,000
Quarry defeated Credeur via unanimous decision

Brian Stann $22,000 ($11,000 to show, $11,000 to win)
Steve Cantwell $10,000
Stann defeated Cantwell via unanimous decision

Mike Pyle $30,000 ($15,000 to show, $15,000 to win)
Chris Wilson $17,000
Pyle defeated Wilson via submission (guillotine choke) Round 3

CB Dollaway $28,000 ($14,000 to show, $14,000 to win)
Jay Silva $6,000
Dollaway defeated Silva via unanimous decision

Phillipe Nover $20,000
Sam Stout $24,000
(Fight canceled to due Nover health issue)

Jeremy Stephens $24,000 ($12,000 to show, $12,000 to win)
Justin Buchholz $8,000
Stephens defeated Buchholz via TKO (doctor stoppage) Round 1

Mike Pierce $12,000 ($6,000 to show, $6,000 to win)
Brock Larson $26,000
Pierce defeated Larson via unanimous decision

Ryan Jensen $8,000 ($4,000 to show, $4,000 to win)
Steve Steinbeiss $6,000
Jensen defeated Steinbess via submission (guillotine choke) Round 1

Keep in mind the salaries listed above do not include fight bonuses, sponsorships, percentages and other unofficial payments. It also does not include deductions for expenses such as insurance, taxes, etc.

For example, the UFC often hands out extra cash for "Fight of the Night," "Knockout of the Night" and "Submission of the Night." To check out these figures for Fight Night 19 go here.

The total base fighter payroll for the blockbuster Spike TV event, which attracted an official crowd of 9,490 attendees (6,687 sold, 2,803 comped) and a solid gate of $577,966, was $476,000.

I never noticed it, but I thought that the TUF winners (like Nate) got a larger contract. Or is it just a contract that they have a guaranteed amount of fights with no cut clause

by IrishKev on Sep 21, 2009 3:03 PM EDT reply actions

Nope, they just get about 4K more per fight than the other TUF guys.

by DDT on Sep 21, 2009 3:08 PM EDT up reply actions

Surprised to see that out o f all those fighters, Larson and Quarry have the best contract.

Anyone see the Cantwell fight yet? I havent watched it and I thout Cantwell was an absolute Lock. Can anyone tell me how in the world did he lose to a can like Stann?

by john G on Sep 21, 2009 3:26 PM EDT up reply actions

Having seen it either but from PBPs it looks like instead of taking him down quick and subbing him- he wanted to be chris lytle because his standup became unbelievable when Cane didn’t KO him.

by NameNotRequired on Sep 21, 2009 3:34 PM EDT up reply actions

Stann kept circling away and conter striking the all fight.

by Alpha Male on Sep 21, 2009 3:41 PM EDT up reply actions

stann stayed on the outside with much improved footwork and somewhat improved striking and would engage and get out frustrating cantwell. cantwell could not cut him off at all

what was really amusing was cantwell started to get mad during the fight throwing up his hands like come on stop moving so i can hit you….that kind of annoyed the hell out of me when a fighter complains about being held or controlled or this case not being able to land strikes…………………i was thinking to myself do something about it if your the better fighter win the F***king fight.

when they were getting ready to read the decision I was suprised they gave it to stann and one judge had it 30-27 stann

and I was happy that stann won because cantwell has no class.

i wouldnt say stann is a can but he is not yet a full mixed martial artist but he looked like aa different fighter in this fight so if he keeps learning and devoloping he can be decent he has the heart thats for sure.

a battled tested marine with the silver star i would say he has more courage then anyone in the ufc not many people are willing to risk death in iraq

THanks for the responses boys. Always appreciate it!

I like Cantwell, but I do agree that he has ZERO CLASS!

by john G on Sep 21, 2009 3:55 PM EDT up reply actions

I didn’t see it, but MMAweekly scored it 30-27 Cantwell. I have read a few summaries of it, and heard it described as curious, confusing, and contrary to the way most “analysts” scored it. I no its unfair to be upset about a decision for a fight I didn’t even see, but I also cannot imagine Cantwell losing to Stann this time around. I hope to see it somehow, but not sure how that would be accomplished.

A big AMEN to the above comment about fighters complaining about “non-engagement” during a fight. It takes two to prevent “a tango”….so to speak. Same goes to the guys that complain about being laid on. Do something about it! Either prevent being taken down, get out of the position, or control your opponent long enough to get stood up. Good post dia….

all guys on this card has sh!tty contracts.. I can’t believe Roger risked his shoulder for no money

by RoBerto on Sep 21, 2009 4:20 PM EDT up reply actions

NNR… Kyra, Arona and Faber out of ADCC!

by Alpha Male on Sep 21, 2009 5:48 PM EDT up reply actions

I posted about Kyra but Faber too? Crazy thing is IntheGuard had just put out training vids/picks of her and Jaoude. I was getting excited then this. Arona said he was out right after the beastman fight was signed. I don’t think anything worse can happen anymore and if it does i just hope its not at 77kg.

good money for nate. that’s cool that nover still got paid

by 818CALI.NoHo on Sep 21, 2009 3:06 PM EDT reply actions

But I think their pay goes up with each successive fight it goes up.

by DDT on Sep 21, 2009 3:09 PM EDT reply actions

no it doesn’t

by shamo84 on Sep 21, 2009 3:59 PM EDT up reply actions

TUF winners do get a better contract. Notice how Nate Diaz has a 24k to show / 24k win bonus contract whereas Gray Maynard only gets 12k to show / 12k win bonus. Both were on the same season of TUF but Nate won hence the better contract.

by Saywhat on Sep 21, 2009 3:11 PM EDT reply actions

ya but I also think it has more to do with the fact that Nate has a much more recognized name specially being nick diaz brother

tim wtf fuck 10gs

by Mark R on Sep 21, 2009 3:12 PM EDT reply actions

he got fotn too which is like another 30k so i’m sure he’s satisfied, he got more than most people on this card.

by AzCombat on Sep 22, 2009 12:25 AM EDT up reply actions

Ellenberger won that fight. He took the 1st and 2nd rounds hands down. Sometimes I wonder if the judges even pay attention

by RichT on Sep 21, 2009 3:19 PM EDT reply actions

I saw 2nd round for Condit. He did far mroe in that round. if by “won” it, you mean that Ellenberger spent more time on top in the round, then you’re right, but Condit acquired dominant positions like the mount and did more than Ellenberger.

by frosnt on Sep 21, 2009 3:41 PM EDT up reply actions

Agreed. I gave rounds 2 and 3 to Condit. Ellenberger had top position longer, but Condit definitely transitioned more, had the mount. Essentially it seemed to me he did a lot more with the positions he had.

by Amos on Sep 21, 2009 4:01 PM EDT up reply actions

Also agreed. Close fight for sure, but Condit was a lot busier in rounds 2 and 3 and deserved the razor thin decision IMO. Ellenberger looked very good however, and despite the L, gained a lot of fan interest and could become a factor at 170.

by CL on Sep 21, 2009 4:19 PM EDT up reply actions

i don’t know what fight you watched, but Condit pretty clearly took rounds 2 and 3. sometimes i wonder if MMA fans even pay attention.

by kitsunex on Sep 21, 2009 5:20 PM EDT up reply actions

Surprised that Larson makes as much as he does?!?!!

by LJ on Sep 21, 2009 4:04 PM EDT reply actions

I can’t believe he makes more than Condit. Condit needs a new manager.

by FCFighter on Sep 21, 2009 5:09 PM EDT up reply actions

Did anyone happen to notice that Nover still got 20K for not fighting? I can see paying Stout, but I don’t know if I would have opened the checkbook for Nover.

by BeerMan on Sep 21, 2009 4:38 PM EDT reply actions

Im happy Maynard didnt get more, he doesnt deserve a penny more until he actually finishes someone.
Griffin stepped up at 103, Maynard better do it next time.

by Lester The Pimp on Sep 21, 2009 4:48 PM EDT reply actions

I can hardly blame him for not finishing Huerta. I still can’t get over Roger not tapping.

by Amos on Sep 21, 2009 6:01 PM EDT up reply actions

no kidding! that was painful to watch, i was cringing just seeing it happen, i can’t imagine how Huerta was able to get out of it.

by kitsunex on Sep 21, 2009 6:13 PM EDT up reply actions

Heurta is the man. That’s how. Too bad he has better things to move on to. Clearly makes sense to me why he took off. No beatings, injuries, and ha ha ha @ anyone that thinks he won’t make 21k elsewhere. Dana wanted him, he should learn to pay these guys.

Huerta, rampage, cung Le, Randy, won’t be the last to venture elsewhere for money & fame. Wanna keep em, pay em accordingly. STRIKEFORCE has probs doing so with their restricted income thus far. UFC makes money hand over fist. Still refusing to pay properly. I don’t like seeing fighters leave, but ill never not take their side in this pitiful situation.

by Daniel worby on Sep 21, 2009 6:58 PM EDT up reply actions

Danial, usually you make sense, but I’ll bet you anything that Roger Huerta isn’t getting famous anywhere.. including mma!

by kevin on Sep 21, 2009 7:21 PM EDT up reply actions

What was the health issue with nover, was he just about to fight then they stopped iy on the night ?
