Haha close, he thinks it’s Shane Curwhen. I think they both have enough power to know anyone out, it’s just Carwin hasn’t fought the kind of guys Brock has. With that said, Brock finally has a legitimate opponent in the sense this guy can knock him out and possibly put him on his back and has the abilities to scramble off his back if Brock puts him there. I am excited but I give an edge to Brock because I do think he is much more athletic but I would assume Carwin is the better strategist in the Cage, game planning is one thing but I am talking while in the moment.

I just wanna let all you guys saying Carwin is gonna win, YOU’RE WRONG!
I’m in no way a Brock fan and if I’m wrong (I hope I am), flame away on me!
I give Carwin a 5% chance at victory, that’s the one lucky punch before Brock takes him down and ponds him out! You heard it here first fellas!
by kevin on Sep 20, 2009 10:45 PM EDT up reply actions
Is there any need for that? Surely having him mount a heavy bag would achieve the same objective? Given he was just sitting up in the mount and leaving an escape angle open, it’s hardly like his partner was drilling escaping from the bottom and having Borck control him!?

Kev?? Heard it here first? Lesnar is a BIIIG favourite and everyone on here thinks he will G&P Carwin out, hardly a dangerous prediction.

bro, read all these comments, 90% of these guys are on Carwin. I agree Brock is and should be a huge favorite, I’m going by this site! I can’t stand brock, but I’m not drinking the Carwin Kool aid!

I actually like Brock, and I expect him to win. I think that Carwin may have more ko power standing, but that is really the only edge I would give him over Brock. When 2 guys are this big, an upset is always possible, as 1 punch can end the fight.

Thats what makes this one of the most exciting HW fights to big guy’s that are both skilled and dangerous in the cage. Tim Sylvia was on top in the UFC mainly because his size advantage that he used well against opponents as AA could tell you and Tim with no size advantage against either of these guy’s would be destroyed. These two guy’s are with out a doubt the two best fighters over 250LBS.

I think the edge 4 Brock might be his “angry sore loser” type personality , Carwin seems laid back and calm and the athletes with Brocks traits really push themselves out of a hatred 2 loose . eg . Michael Jordan .. who would beat Brocks ass by the way ;)

I’d really be scared no matter who I was in the MMA world fighting Brock Lesner you’d need to more mentally messed up than than MJ not to be.

lol Shane is gonna tear him up, yeah Brock is athletic and is explosive but i the and this is my opinion, but i think Carwin has way more KO power look at the people he has dropped and scored KO/TKO finishes, its impressive. All in all its gonna be a good fight…. Oh and for October WAR SHOGUN!!!!! :P

If handy can defend brock’s shot, i think Shane does too mostly with sheer force. Standing, i am thinking Shane throws harder too. Both don’t like to get hit though.

Your boy was right once again!!!!! The fight I mentioned last week between Buentello vs. Todd Duffe is being finalized for UFC 107. Should be a BANG!
by john G on Sep 20, 2009 9:00 PM EDT up reply actions
FYI: I am more of a Brock fan then I am of Carwin but I think Carwin is going to win the title! When power are strength are on an even playing field, thats when skills are the difference. Brock’s inexperience will show in this fight because it cant be masked with size and strength like it could against previous opponents.
by john G on Sep 20, 2009 9:05 PM EDT up reply actions
am thinking smashout for Todd. Buentello can’t take massive shots and he can’t wrestle. Todd does both. His wingspan probly doesn’t hurt either. He’s also not a stand and banger.
by NameNotRequired on Sep 20, 2009 9:05 PM EDT up reply actions
nah, Brock for the kill!! I do think Carwin is going to win it though as john said..
by RoBerto on Sep 20, 2009 10:28 PM EDT up reply actions
The biggest question is will Carwin be able to handle Brock on the ground or will carwin have good enough takedown defence to keep it standing it will be interesting to see what Jackson has in store for a gameplan I just think Brock will out work Carwin on the ground even though Carwin is big and strong he doesn’t have the same ground skills? If his ground skills are 3/4 as good as Brock he has a chance but I’m taking Brock in this one TKO in the second round.
by Beaver on Sep 20, 2009 11:25 PM EDT up reply actions
Brock’s ground skills isn’t better… It’s all about who ends up on top
by RoBerto on Sep 21, 2009 8:24 AM EDT up reply actions
How do you figure Roberto? I pretty sure if Brock ended up on his back he would be more likely to get it back standing or reverse to top control I don’t think carwin would fair as well on his back.

How exactly does Barney Carwin have more experience than Brock? Yes, he has more fights, but they’ve all been against the sort of competition that Kimbo slice fought in his back yard, save for one against Gonzaga, and GG is still milking an undeserved reputation after throttling Cro Cop. Lesnar is going to humiliate Barney in three miuntes.

Whats the different from him beating cans and Fedor beating cans they all count on the record right? And fedor has only beat one top ten fighter that is thought as a top ten today? I know what your saying and I agree but I respect Carwin more than Fedor as Carwin does not pick his opponents and has beat everyone the UFC has thrown at him he will probally lose his first fight but his strikes are the most lethal in the HW division I would like to see him face NOG before Brock but he is probally the only fighter that has a chance on the ground against Brock in the UFC right now I don’t think NOG is strong enough to do any harm to Brock yes he’s skilled but he had trouble against Barnetts wrestling on the ground and Brocks wrestling is better and he is bigger and stronger. Win are lose Brock is going to be hard to beat in the future as his MMA skills look better each and every fight that goes by when he gets ten fights under his belt I he’ll be the best HW with out any doubt I can’t wait to see his progression this fight!
by Beaver on Sep 20, 2009 11:37 PM EDT up reply actions
catch wrestling =/= freestyle wrestling. Had Barnett not caught that Kneebar, Nog would have straight up won that fight- Outgrappled him every which way to sunday. U’re not going to see brock going for things and tryin to catch subs. At this point, Brock’s main objective will still be to pin the hips and block movement while working half guard. Not a good business with Big Nog. Standing, i don’t think Nog would harm him but he would probly score point on the judges card simply coz he strikes better and throws long combos unlike Brock who waits, throws one or two shots, no head movement and still working out lateral movement. Only worry here is Nog doesn’t move his head either and will probly get knocked down once or twice. Then again i got Carwin putting brock away here in the 1st.
by NameNotRequired on Sep 21, 2009 12:27 AM EDT up reply actions
Possible but most likely your going to be wrong NNR and NOG will be next in line were Brock will show the doubter and haters how far he has came in so little time the man trains harder than anyone in MMA and has freakish athleticism for a big man. I like Carwin but because he has a full time job outside of MMA I don’t believe him having 6 or seven fights more than Brock will be any kind of advantage because Brock is 100% focused and training for MMA. The training Brock has put in will show many doubters how dedicated he is to the sport and less shrink once again his the amount of critics and haters.

Louie – He has KOd Gonzaga and a bunch of irrelevants. He does have KO power but if you think this fight is going to stay standing your way out of your mind. Carwin stands a punchers chance and that is it.

Until someone can stuff Lesnar’s shot consistently he is going to keep winning. He showed what he can do on the ground against Mir who is excellent on the ground. The only danger I see Lesnar having on the ground is with NOG. Carwin will come in looking to get the KO and get taken down, or he will be trying not to get taken down and still get taken down without throwing any power shots.
I think everyone should watch the Carwin Gonzaga fight again and imagine what would of happened if it was Lesnar not Gonzaga. Carwin was literally running at Gonzaga before he almost got KOd. That would of ended him up on his back getting pounded out. This may look like a good matchup for Carwin but really is not.
by ASR on Sep 20, 2009 8:45 PM EDT reply actions
Paniczoo, I guess that I owe you an apology for Dos Santos. I thought that Mirko would knock him out with strait punches and your Gypsy kept taking them like it was nothing. Congrats.
by Alpha Male on Sep 21, 2009 3:46 PM EDT up reply actions
Carwin always has a striker chance ASR he has the most powerful strikes and can end any opponents night if he connects thats what makes him exciting as he has the ability to beat anyone but I think you right Brock will be bring this to were he is the strongest as big and strong as Carwin is I can’t see him stopping Brock and will be on his back. Brock is a bigger stronger version of Barnett as every fighter that faced Barnett that tried to keep it standing lost almost everytime against the explosive takedowns of Barnett. Like GSP & Barnett Brock is a great takedown fighter and I think we will see Carwin on his back fighting for his life I give him tell the second or third before he is TKO.
by Beaver on Sep 20, 2009 11:48 PM EDT up reply actions
I think Carwin should surprise Brock and go for the TD. Contrary to popular belief, I don’t believe there is much of a difference in their wrestling. Just bc Shane went to a D2 school doesn’t mean he wasn’t on par with the D1 level. More importantly, HOW LONG HAS IT BEEN SINCE THEY WRESTLED IN COLLEGE?!?? The answer is a long, long while, and even an inferior wrestler can sometimes score a TD against a good wrestler just by timing it well and using good transitions.
If he gets it, Brock’s toast. Somehow I don’t see Brock locking in a gogoplata off his back.
by frosnt on Sep 20, 2009 8:49 PM EDT reply actions
What are you basing your opinion on about your belief about their wrestling? Also what makes you think that Lesnar would get finished from his back? There is a big difference in D1 to D2 by the way.

by ASR on Sep 21, 2009 4:15 PM EDT up reply actions
I read an interview with Shane Carwin as well as a man who coached both of them in wrestling basically saying they’re fairly equivalent. Much more important though are the points that a) that was a long time ago and we have no idea where their wrestling is at now b) wrestling in mma is very different from pure wrestling. If this were a wrestling match 10 years ago I’d probably bet on Brock considering he has the more impressive pedigree.
I think Brock would get finished off his back bc Shane has vicious GnP, Brock doesn’t like to get hit, and because Brock is totally untested off his back. It’s also possible that he doesn’t train the position much bc he arrogantly assumes that no one can ever take him down.
by frosnt on Sep 20, 2009 9:29 PM EDT up reply actions
The levels of competition and quality of matches Brock was in compared to Carwin were on a much higher level as well was his record. Wich really shows the competitor Brock is and wrestling isn’t everything the ability to control the positioning on the ground is a huge advantage just ask GSP, Hughes, couture, barnett,… I also believe wrestlers have a advantage because they have competed at such a endurance draining sport if you haven’t wrestled it is 10 times more fatigueing than any sport wich also mentally prepares them to battle in MMA and usually come in the sport with the endurance needed to compete at such a high level. Carwin might have the most lethal strikes out of any MMA HW so he does have a decent chance and if his ground game is a good as he say’s it is then maybe he has a better chance of winning but then again if Brock keeps improving the amount he does each fight he might turn out to be the GSP of the HW division with his ability to control were the fight takes place either way I’m looking forward to what could be one of the greatest HW battles!!
by Puck Head on Sep 21, 2009 10:37 AM EDT up reply actions
No, no. no.. That is why they have divisions… The weaker ones are of there in D2. Brock all day! Carwins big head will be the end of him. I his eyes rolling from brocks GnP.
by Manila on Sep 20, 2009 9:02 PM EDT up reply actions
honestly now, college wrestling obviously has some influence, but not as much as everybody thinks??
take G.S.P for example….didn’t really wrestle before MMA – no D1 or D2 schools, but he trained wrestling specific for MMA and look he is the best wrestler in the UFC (debatable)
all im saying is dont put too much into their college credentials obviously there is some influence… but it was a long time ago, you have to look more at who they are training with, what specifically are they training, and how much their wrestling has developed SINCE COLLEGE. For all we know Carwin has trained way more wrestling than Brock since college and very well could be the better wrestler. We won’t really know until they fight though!!
by Blunt N' Beer on Sep 20, 2009 10:00 PM EDT up reply actions
College wrestling is a step down compared to olympic wrestlers and that’s who GSP trains with- Canadian Olympic team. Though people do say there is a big gap b/t D1 and D2 wrestlers so Brock automatically runs through Carwin. Personally when i think of high level wrestling clashing in MMA i think of Van Arsdale-Couture and i just don’t see Brock and Carwin doin that. I suspect clinching and throwing bombs.
by NameNotRequired on Sep 21, 2009 12:32 AM EDT up reply actions
Why is it when anyone talks about college wrestlers they bring up GSP. He is the exception and a huge exception at that. Wrestling overall is a skill that takes years to master. Div I vs. Div. II is leaps and bounds ahead. College Wrestlers are the most dominant fights in MMA. I do not think it is how much there wrestling has developed since college but how much there mma has developed. Are they still a college wrestler or ar they a mixed martial artists. That is what dictates wrestlers success in mma. RAshad Evans, John Fitch, Koscheck, FRankie EDgar, Couture, Henderson, Eddie Alvarez, Gray Maynard(work in progress),tyson gRiffin are all relevant and are dominating fighters because they have become above average/to great strikers and boxers. That is the difference imo…

Nicky I was referring to your man enough comment. By your standard Gracie was not man enough to stand with people as he always wanted the fight on the ground. My point is that fighters should go to their strengths. You seem to be just hoping for a Lesnar loss and want to find a way to not give credit if he wins. If Lesnar wins by taking Carwin down and pounding him out(90% chance) then you will say he wasnt man enough to stay standing. Go watch some WWE.

Gracie had a strength and size disadvantage over a lot of his opponents. His victories were won through skill alone. Brocks fans, who seem to be dazzled by the brightness of the sun they see shining out of his backside will disagree, but as far as I am concerned although Brock may have the skill his victories are due more to size and strength. Brock is like the MMA version of what Semi Schilt used to be in K1 with the adavntges he had over his opponents. It wasn’t a matter of if he was going to win, just when. I couldn’t wait for him to get beaten. Although Brock does come across as being an arrogamt prick, that is my only real issue with him. This is a match where this is not going to be the major advantage he has over his opponent. I am looking forward to it.
by Ade on Sep 22, 2009 6:33 AM EDT up reply actions
lol Gracie used to take guys on like Brock’s size back in the day and make them squeal like girls ahahaha! That was always so cool seeing a 175-180 lb guy take out bulked up behemoths at 250+ lbs….ahhh the good ole days!
PS I got Brock winning this by TKO in the 2nd round. Carwin is good, but he’s nowhere near Brocks physical size (not talking wieght here) Brock is still the largeer man…also, Gonzaga was TKO’d by Randy the LHW, so in reality, its not like a huge deal for Carwin to KO Gonzaga, its not like Gonzaga had never been finished and that was Carwin’s first legit test. I like Carwin, just don’t see him being able to take out the GIANT that is Brock. Carwin also proved he can be rocked big time when he took that punch from Gonzaga, I’m betting Brock hits just as hard if not harder than Gonzaga. Just my opinion….

Carwin is Brocks best competition so far. Brock will win this fight but he really needs to learn to be more patient and will need some amazing counters to beat dos Santos when it’s his turn to fight. I say Santos will take the belt due to an amazing combination of timing and counter punching. Santos learns fast and he will be ready for Brocks wrestling. When people talk about Lesnar dryhumping and hammerfisting it just shows how little you know about MMA. Lesnar’s fight against Mir showed he was able to nutralize BJJ. He did this by controlling Mir’s hips and head and using good cage position in the second round.

Brocks Div. I credentials are better then Cains. I don’t think Cain would be Brock on the Ground. BRock was like a 106-5 as a college wretler over 4 years-2 of them div. I, where he has more accolades then Cain. Cain was 50-10 as a Div. wrestler in 2 years.

Brock steamrolled right over the top of any and all in his path bar none.
He was at the point of beating the hell out of Mir in their first fight but got bold after beating the hell out of him and carelessly stood up to let him up and got his leg caught.
Brock got big heaeded…otherwise….Brock totally beat the hell out of Mir…same as the rematch.
Brock has wrestled all his life and likely then some.
How can you sit there and type such outright BS as Brock lacks experience.
Seriously….on the ground Brock rules and flat out is going to beat the hell out of anyone on their back. These are facts.
These guys stepping up to bat are going to step right back down after realizeing tbey have not yet had a worthy fight…till they crossed the path of one Brock Lesnar.
You guys say Brock is not the real deal yet all along he had proved these champions have been having 2nd rate fights and are hardly even competition worth worrying over.
Its like this fellas
Brock is going to say he is going to beat the hell out of the guy in the next match and thats exactly what he is going to do.

I just want to see Lesnar and Fedor. Why won’t this happen? I want to see this when Fedor is at his peak not in 2 years when Fedor is on the decline. Why can’t this happen? Eventually it will if both keep winning but it may be at a time when neither fighter is at their peak or when Fedor is too damaged to be as good as he can. Why wont this happen?
