UFC 103 weigh in results LIVE from Dallas for 'Franklin vs Belfort' (Updated)

franky-belfy

The official weigh-in event for UFC 103: "Franklin vs. Belfort" took place today (Sept. 18) from the Dallas Convention Center Arena in Dallas, Texas.

And either the scales were way off or everything really is bigger in Texas. That's because it took main event participant, Vitor Belfort, four attempts to make weight (196 pounds) for his catchweight fight (195 pounds) against Rich Franklin.

Perhaps that eventual (and permanent) move to middleweight (185 pounds) may not be that easy for "The Phenom" in the future.

In addition to Belfort, The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 8 winner, Efrain Escudero, was barely able to shed a half-pound to hit the lightweight limit (156 pounds) during his numerous attempts.

And former number one lightweight contender, Hermes Franca, didn't even try to shed the extra four pounds he smuggled into the "Lone Star State," agreeing to fight Tyson Griffin at 159 pounds.

Franca will now likely have to surrender a percentage of his purse to Tyson Griffin because he missed the mark.

Here are the complete UFC 103 weigh in results and LIVE stream:

***Escudero needed two hours to drop a half-pound.

Wait your gonna show Franklin v Belfort event free by stream???

by Mylah on Sep 18, 2009 2:56 PM EDT reply actions

the weigh ins guy, if you want the ppv for free by stream you gotta get an illegal stream

by bobby o'shea on Sep 18, 2009 3:18 PM EDT up reply actions

an “illegal stream” yeah guys watch out the UFC police along with FBI and secret service will be busting down your door. The last pacquio fight I watched on an HD stream along with 100k other people! I’m writing this from the prison in Zuffa’s basement.
Was the Franca fight always at a catch weight?
weigh ins are packed today!

by kevin on Sep 18, 2009 5:21 PM EDT up reply actions

why would tyson weigh in at 155 if the fight was at a catch weight of 159?

by AzCombat on Sep 18, 2009 7:11 PM EDT up reply actions

He is a small 155’er who previously fought at 145. He may not cut weight to make 155.

OR, maybe last night or this morning Franca’s camp approached Dana and Griffin’s camp and explained that Franca couldn’t make weight, and the catch weight was agreed upon then… meaning that Tyson had already cut his weight.

All the veterans of the sport are going to shock the MMA world. PHENOM by KO—-TWINKLE TOES by decision—-CRO COP by DECAPITATION!!!!!!

tapout-everyone of ’em, except that Dos Santos has this one!

why is Curt Angle weighing in against kos?
when did he sign with the UFC?

by kevin on Sep 18, 2009 5:22 PM EDT up reply actions

He does kinda look like him, huh? Seeing the saw 6 preview made me remembered that Halloween 2 was terrible. I’m so disappointed, they are in my fav movies and they are killing the franchise. Damn Zombie and Akkad jr.

by Alpha Male on Sep 18, 2009 7:15 PM EDT up reply actions

The original Halloween 1 and Halloween H20 were frigging awesome. Classics.

by Jeremyjackson on Sep 18, 2009 7:18 PM EDT up reply actions

Yep, 1, 2, H20 were the best. I even said before that the remake of Zombie first movie was very good. But the second one… gee, what a dumb thing to do. Not the same story at all from the original. 2 is my fav of all of them so I was really pissed.

by Alpha Male on Sep 18, 2009 7:27 PM EDT up reply actions

Damn Mod… And GI Joe was good BTW.

by Alpha Male on Sep 18, 2009 7:29 PM EDT up reply actions

I didn’t mind halloween 2, but I was never into the originals.
GI joe looked good, my son said it was, and it was cute to hear a 7 year old say that there were pretty girls in it too!

by kevin on Sep 18, 2009 7:42 PM EDT up reply actions

Kevin, I still can’t believe TNA hired Trigg for several months because he looks like Kurt Angle, what a joke.

The original Halloween was a classic and I’ve heard good things about Halloween 2, but like all horror franchises they ruined it by making pointless sequels (to be fair H:20 was good but they ruined that by retconning the ending in the next film and killing off JLC) that were nowhere near as good as the original before an even more pointless remake (at times not even remotely like the original) is released.

Unfortunately Saw, which started off with a quality original film, has fallen for this trap and gone on to release unneccessary sequels that are more about gore than plot, which is a shame because the original was my favourite ever horror film. I won’t be surprised at all if they make a remake of Saw in a few years time that isn’t in the same league as the original. Hopefully they end the series with this next film because another would just be ridiculous.

by David W-S on Sep 18, 2009 7:56 PM EDT up reply actions

I am a huge Halloween fan, haven’t seen the new one yet.. GI Joe was always gonna be good with Channing Tatum in it

by RoBerto on Sep 18, 2009 8:56 PM EDT up reply actions

Halloween 2 was THE worst movie of 2009 right next to District 9 i shut that movie off after stealing it for 20 minutes.

by Hater R us on Sep 18, 2009 9:17 PM EDT up reply actions

District 9 was an amazing movie, sure the first half hour was sort of documentary but it was great from start to finish, definately top 3 this year

No Roberto, GI Joe will alwayd be good with Sienna Miller’s hot as$ on it, hehehe!

by Syd on Sep 19, 2009 2:14 AM EDT up reply actions

Halloween 3 was the absolute worst. Nothing at all to do with Michael Myers, just a bunch of halloween masks from some crazy company. Not to mention that awful song getting stuck in your brain.

cro cop looks to be in great shape!!!!!!
someone tell me how Vitor looks, I gtg get my son at school!!!

by kevin on Sep 18, 2009 5:28 PM EDT up reply actions

Kev: I just came back from the weight-ins and Vitor was over by three pounds and had to get completely naked to get down to 196.5 lbs. Not impressive.

Also over weight was the mexican fighter Efriam.

The UFC, Dana and company are staying at the Hilton Anatole here in Dallas.

Franklin got the biggest cheer with CroCop next….people actually booed Koscheck….and for some reason the crowd cheered for McFeddries.

by TheSaint on Sep 18, 2009 7:30 PM EDT up reply actions

good stuff buddy, I’m a huge Vitor fan, but this worries me! I really wanna see him and Silva at MW!

vitor looked in horrible shape!

Did he?

by john G on Sep 18, 2009 5:41 PM EDT up reply actions

Nah, he’s not as ripped at 195 but he didn’t look horrible. I am surprised he came in heavy though considering yesterday he weighed 200 lbs in that blog?? 5 lbs shouldn’t have been that tough.

by O damn he got caught on Sep 18, 2009 5:42 PM EDT up reply actions

Yeah. Crap.

i don’t think he made weight?

He had an hour to lose a quarter of a pound?

by Puck Head on Sep 18, 2009 5:57 PM EDT up reply actions

Why you guys saying that Vitor looked in horrible shape? Is it b/c of what you saw the old previewed fights Highlight, where he looks way bigger? He looks the same that he was against Lindland.

by Alpha Male on Sep 18, 2009 6:25 PM EDT up reply actions

Nah, he looks softer and less defined than he did against Lindland. Apparently his cardio is better now though, and physiques don’t tell us that much in this sport. He’s faster than ever with less muscle to carry as well.

by Jeremyjackson on Sep 18, 2009 6:27 PM EDT up reply actions

A guy that I’m worry about is Cro Cop. He was suppose to be around 245 for this match up and he came in at 225. Not a good sign. Damn that I hope that I’m wrong.

by Alpha Male on Sep 18, 2009 6:39 PM EDT up reply actions

JJ you saw how much love Kampmann was getting at the weigh in? He won’t sell more than Stun Gun if he’s the next in line.

by Alpha Male on Sep 18, 2009 7:07 PM EDT up reply actions

Your honor, I present to the court defence exhibit A: Thales Leites.

If that guy can get a title shot, so can Kampmann. Sometimes they just need an opponent for a title fight, and they throw in the best available candidate. This could well be a situation where that is the case.

by Jeremyjackson on Sep 18, 2009 7:14 PM EDT up reply actions

lol, yeah, I hope not. If he is, I’ll seriously send a email to complain to Zuffa .

by Alpha Male on Sep 18, 2009 7:21 PM EDT up reply actions

And bear in mind that unlike Stun Gun, Kampmann HAS at least headlined one UFC event.

by Jeremyjackson on Sep 18, 2009 7:30 PM EDT up reply actions

Yeah and he could’ve did it twice if he wouldn’t injured himself before fighting Franklin.
I was saying Stun Gun b/c of your joke of the rec center. IMO, Swick got to be the next, then the winner of Alves/Fitch, then the other contenders. that would give them 1 year to get wins and determined the next in line.

by Alpha Male on Sep 18, 2009 7:44 PM EDT up reply actions

I’m very worried about Vitor, he did not look good at the weigh-ins and considering that he wants to fight at 185 it is shocking that he struggled to make 195, I knew that he should have been doing more than watching the US Open final. So much for him fighting Andy anytime soon, I now have serious reservations about him beating Franklin. Hopefully Vitor can prove me wrong but this was certainly a step in the wrong direction and Rich is going to be the fighter in much better condition.

Kampmann is nowhere near ready a title shot but unfortunately Swick got injured, the AKA trio won’t face each other and GSP has been too dominant so it would be difficult to promote any rematches. I don’t think wins over some can, Condit and Semtex should get Kampmann anywhere near a title shot and he got smashed by Nate at MW but at this point any GSP fight at WW would be a one sided beatdown, so he is the best option at present. That is why I want to see GSP move up to MW, as he’s cleared out the WW division. Unless Shields and Nick Diaz are on there way to the UFC, GSP should move up if he is going to face better competition.

by David W-S on Sep 18, 2009 8:02 PM EDT up reply actions

245? are u sure u heard right? Cro Cop would either be fat as hell, or roided to get to that weight.. him being at 225lbs (his usual weight) in shape is a good sign, it’s all about letting his hands and kicks fly!

by RoBerto on Sep 18, 2009 9:02 PM EDT up reply actions

Im almost positive that cro cop came in slightly above 240 at his last fight(to my surprise) against mustapha al turk…but you’re right..225 is about his usual weight.

by salamagogo on Sep 19, 2009 2:47 AM EDT up reply actions

Yeah RoB, that’s what he said that he wanted to do for this fight… put on more weight. Though Mirko probably have problem to figuring out his own weight. At the weigh-in Dana asked him how much he was supposed to weigh, and he said 230, then he got on the scale and it was 226.

He should be fine though.

No they haven’t, and I hope it works, most sites (BE), the streams never work.
This will be the first event in forever that I’m not buying. I have a sat/sun 25k guaranteed TOC poker tournament and a birthday paty sat night.
I will watch Vitor knock Rich out and Cro cop knock Dos Santos out online when I get home,
I did DVR the prelims. In my opinion this is a good card to miss (not that I like to miss any)!

lol yeah considering thats top 5. what do you think you get 800 a win? Like I said (if you could read), the chip leader has 3600 and I played 3 out of the 6 months of qualifiers…I was chip leader in june when I stopped for the summer (chilling with my son is more important than poker. I got 1st on wed. in my 3rd tournament back and made final table all 3 days! Man skope, is it to much for you not to hate? When I was accumulating my 2800, I made 12k in less than 6 weeks… I’m sure that sucks too in 65 and 100 dollar tournaments! you are amusing me today!

Lol u have no reading comprehension do u? The tournament is tomorrow, those r accumulated starting chips. This is a tournament of champions, maybe u don’t know how that works. Over the last 6 months everytime u win a tournament u get extra starting chips for this tournament while people that won once sta

by kevin on Sep 19, 2009 10:22 AM EDT up reply actions

I completely disagree.
This is a pretty good card. It’s the next one that sucks. I mean, we’ve got
Franklin/Belfort -great match up;
Crocop/Dos Santos -great match;
then there’s Kampann/Daley;
Koschek/Trigg;
Escudero/Miller; Griffin/Franca. What’s there not to be happy about?

Compare that to UFC104: Machida/Rua-awesome match up;
Velasquez/Rothwell-not bad;
Tibau/Neer-who cares?
Stevenson/Fisher-not bad;
Johnson/Yoshida-yawn;
Okami/Sonnen-whatever;
Hardonk/Berry-who cares; and it just gets worse from there.

UFC103 is a good card, while 104 is a real dud. What do the rest of you think?

by Caknakker on Sep 18, 2009 3:52 PM EDT up reply actions

This is a great card and the prelims being aired only makes it better. I dont see how the Franlin/Belfort fight or Crocop/JDS could disappoint. Trigg/Koscheck should be good too. Def worth the PPV $ IMO.

by stevo on Sep 18, 2009 4:17 PM EDT up reply actions

It never fails that the cards that look like duds, turn out to have some of the best fights. For example, I don’t think anybody was overly excited about Wednesday, but that turned out to be pretty damn entertaining.

by BNF on Sep 18, 2009 4:21 PM EDT up reply actions

104 is 1000x times better than this. That is the greatest ME the UFC has put ever put on. Okami and Sonnen are both top 10. Hardonk/Berry should be a great kickboxing war. Also Ryan Bader is on the card and he looked like a beast and is undefeated. Velazquez is a top contender but could well lose to Rothwell. Stevenson and Fisher also two highly ranked LWs. Not to mention AJ—the owner of the single dumbest post-fight interview i’ve ever seen—is fighting Yoshida. The only problem is the choices they made as to what’s gettin televised. 104 is a super-exciting card.

by frosnt on Sep 18, 2009 6:26 PM EDT up reply actions

live streams on this site? have i missed something? who would watch Mayrunner over this top quality event? a f**king retard thats all. Something i thought up that would be great is if Mayrunner gets beat or ko’d while the UFC main event is on or just finishing they should show it on the live screens in the arena and the crowd would go wild and it would get huge publicity too and humiliate Floyd.

im curious who the ufc/dana wants to win this fight. i would think its belfort as he can go down to 185 and maybe challenge for the title. rich losing doesnt really hurt his credability that much does it? Personally id like to see rich take a run at the lhw title or at least fight some top 5 or 10 guys in that division.

by bobby o'shea on Sep 18, 2009 3:19 PM EDT reply actions

yup, franklin/hendo and franklin/wandi were good fights, hope he makes his way to lyoto for a rematch (it wont be for a title though cause Shogun will have the strap but none-the-less) franklin/forrest would be good and franklin/couture wouldnt be bad either. AND vitor/tito rematch, vitor/wandi rematch, vitor/hendo, vitor/rampage, vitor/shogun, vitor/lyoto, vitor/A.silva, too many to list really.

by ( (Adam G) ) on Sep 18, 2009 3:54 PM EDT up reply actions

Vitor is going to fight at 185.

I have a question, if Vitor destroys Rich fast does he immediatly pass up Hendo and Nate for a shot agaisn’t Anderson? I wouldn’t mind seeing that fight first.

by BNF on Sep 18, 2009 3:59 PM EDT up reply actions

Thats a big possibility BNF! The hype that a new challenger would be better than two who have already lost. If that were to happen, then I say put Nate/Hendo on the same card for next shot at the winner.

by JV on Sep 18, 2009 4:30 PM EDT up reply actions

I’d like to see Vitor/Wand 2 at 185.

by Jeremyjackson on Sep 18, 2009 4:32 PM EDT up reply actions

That sounds like a plan to me JV. And the UFC is always doing things like that anyways. Anderson, Rampage, Brock, ect…

by BNF on Sep 18, 2009 4:36 PM EDT up reply actions

I hope so BNF!

by kevin on Sep 18, 2009 4:53 PM EDT up reply actions

Hmmm, we’ll see on Saturday[well, Sunday here]…

by Syd on Sep 19, 2009 2:37 AM EDT up reply actions

I’d rather see Hendo get his promised rematch while Belfort destroys Marquardt or Wandy at 185. That will up the hype for the Vitor/Anderson fight.

I know a lot of you guys don’t think Dan deserves a rematch over Nate, but how can you complain about Rampage breaking his promise to Dana and then say Dana doesn’t have to keep his promise to HEndo. He said repeatedly and publicly that if Dan beat Bisping, he would “DEFINITELY” be the next one to challenge Silva for the belt.

I’m a way bigger Vitor fan than Hendo fan, but Vitor just got back and most fans in this generation don’t have a clue who he is. Two fights in the UFC before getting a title shot is not unreasonable.

by shonuff on Sep 19, 2009 10:51 AM EDT up reply actions

Dos Santos looks twice as big as Cro Cop. Cro Cop weighed in at 226? He should move down to Light Heavy Weight. There aren’t as many ground guys in that division either.

by RedRavi7 on Sep 18, 2009 5:30 PM EDT reply actions

yeah, he said he was bulking up before but it wouldn’t be too difficult really for him to get to 205 if he knew how to cut properly

by quidnunc on Sep 18, 2009 5:33 PM EDT up reply actions

He looks small for a heavyweight but too large for a LHW. Cutting 20lbs might not be easy for him – he looks pretty lean already.

by stevo on Sep 18, 2009 5:44 PM EDT up reply actions

Guys can be a ripped 225 and cut 20 pounds of water. Cro-Cop could definitely cut to 205.

If he loses this fight we just may see that.

by Puck Head on Sep 18, 2009 5:58 PM EDT up reply actions

I agree he’s too small to compete in this new generation of giant HWs, but it would be difficult to start cutting weight for the first time at his age. Most of these guys who can cut 20+ lbs have been doing it since High School wrestling.

Hermes Franca, Efrain and Belfort all came in heavy. Don’t remember the last time 3 guys came in heavy for a fight….Rogan did say Hermes and Griffin agreed to a 159 catch weight. Griffin came in at 155.5.

I’ll change my predicion from Franklin by UD to Franklin by KO.

by Lester The Pimp on Sep 18, 2009 5:37 PM EDT reply actions

Franklin look in much better condition than Belfort. Franklin by UD or TKO!

by theone on Sep 18, 2009 5:46 PM EDT reply actions

Couture is the only one to ever KO or TKO Belfort and he did it by just totally bullying him on the ground an not letting him move or breathe till his spirit was totally sucked out of him. I can’t see Rich overpowering Vitor on the ground like that. If Franklin wins, it will be by decision.

by shonuff on Sep 19, 2009 11:01 AM EDT up reply actions

How is Vitor gonna fight at 185 and he can’t make the 195 weight cut? He didn’t look anywhere near as hard as he usually does. I think he might be in trouble.

by knowone on Sep 18, 2009 5:47 PM EDT reply actions

That spells perfection to me! Ill be so damned pumped if ace wins this. Put a kink in da chains instantly. Rich is just to great a guy, and takes too much flack, for me not to root for him.

I think a lot of people underestimate Franklin as a fighter. He’s not only a great guy with true championship spirit and unwavering sportsmanship. I think he’ll be very competative in the upper echalon at LHW. I think he could beat 2 or 3 of the top-5 guys at LH.

That said, I’m still rooting for Vitor cause he’s a great guy too with oodles of untapped talent, and I’d love to see him restored to his former glory and make a run at the title again.

Tough to choose between two such classy guys and such amazing fighters!

Dude he missed by a quarter of a pound, they usually try to weight right in at the weight anyways. He could probably shave his nut hair and make the weight. He already made 185 and looked great at it twice in affliction.

by GSP4Prez on Sep 18, 2009 7:03 PM EDT up reply actions

Originally he was 197.5 so he had to do a Gina and still couldn’t make the weight. I’m glad that he made it later on but it is worrying and baffling, considering that he seemed to have no problems with Affliction. Then again a few fighters struggled with the weigh-ins so I’m wondering whether the scales were a bit dodgy, usually there are no problems so for 3 fighters to miss weight is mindblowing.

by David W-S on Sep 18, 2009 8:05 PM EDT up reply actions

Doing Gina would make you lose weight.

Sperm weight.

by Jeremyjackson on Sep 18, 2009 8:12 PM EDT up reply actions

Ya also I don’t remember them ever going to quarter pound precision so perhaps your right they may have got some new scales that are a bit wonky.

by GSP4Prez on Sep 18, 2009 9:57 PM EDT up reply actions

i agree with knowone, Victor looked soft while Franklin looked great as usually. Franklin by UD or TKO!

by franklin on Sep 18, 2009 6:11 PM EDT reply actions

knowone is right Victor looke soft,Rich is going to smash his face in. WAR Rich!

Fuck Flloyd Mayweather!! sry had to be said. Watchin the weighins and he is a cocky ass mfer. + how did he weigh in at 146 lbs. when the fight is contested at 144. I know about the lb allowance, ut 2? can someone enlighten my ass on this..

Franklin TKO
Crop Cop KO
Kampann TKO
Kos UD
Griffin UD
Escudero UD
McFederies TKO

Mayweather had Marquez agree to a typical WW 147 pound weight limit this morning because he knew he couldn’t make 144. Probably handing over some of his considerable purse. Usual Mauweather, angling for any advantage he can get, even against a 26 year-old lightweight.

EDIT: 36 year-old LW.

by Jeremyjackson on Sep 18, 2009 7:25 PM EDT up reply actions

Maybe belfort cut to much to fast?

by Sky on Sep 18, 2009 7:34 PM EDT reply actions

Escudero actually ended up making weight. The catchweight of 156.5 is false.

by E on Sep 18, 2009 9:07 PM EDT reply actions

“Escudero and Griffin will now likely have to surrender a percentage…”

I think you meant Escudero and Franca

I say Franklin by UD!

Trigg kept saying that he was bigger and stronger, but after seeing them together kos is way bigger! good night frank.

by BoBBy on Sep 18, 2009 11:18 PM EDT reply actions

Bigger doesn’t always equal stronger. Tito looked a lot bigger than Randy when they fought and Randy pushed him around like he was a welterweight.

by shonuff on Sep 19, 2009 11:14 AM EDT up reply actions

By the way. The lines on Franklin and Miller have already moved since both Efrain and Vitor missed weight.

by Muay Thai on Sep 19, 2009 1:38 AM EDT reply actions

Im so tired of fighters not making weight…its so disrespectful to the sport and the opponent…this is what these guys do for a living, its their life…be a damn professional and if you cant make weight…go up a weight class….

by salamagogo on Sep 19, 2009 2:40 AM EDT reply actions

Personally, I think the whole system of weight cutting is BS. Who is better at dehydrating and rehydrating themselves the day before the fight has nothing to do with who’s a better fighter. It’s totally artificial because what they weigh in at has nothing to do with the weight they actually fight at. PRIDE had the right idea. Get two guys who are about the same size and let them fight at their natural weight, whatever weight they fight best at. Weigh them just before the fight so there’s none of this dehydration crap that has nothing to do with fighting. Then they have to fight at whatever weight they actually are and can funciton at.
