Nate Quarry learned a painful lesson against Tim Credeur at UFC Fight Night 19

quarry-face

"The gameplan was simple so I wouldn’t forget it: Go and fight. I actually forgot that and was taking punches. I’ve had three round wars and first round knockouts. Don’t let anybody tell you different, first round knockouts are way better. They’re not as painful. I knew this was going to be a war. Tim is a family man, he’s fighting for his family. Everyone was asking about my next fight, but I knew I couldn’t look past Tim. It was a great fight."

Former TUF star Nate Quarry discusses his Sept. 16 bout against "Crazy" Tim Credeur during the post-fight press conference for UFC Fight Night 19 from the Cox Convention Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. "The Rock" survived multiple scares in the first round to roar back and steal the unanimous decision victory. The three round war was good enough to earn him and Credeur "Fight of the Night" honors and no doubt another spot on a future televised card.

Yep, I thought Nate was going to lose it for sure after that 1st rd; but BAM the right hand came in and changed everything. Love fights like that; both guys digging deep, taking big shots like that takes a lot out of a fighter, cardio, game planning, reaction time all diminished.. it’s all about the heart at that point and that was a great fight.

Your totally right o damn. That was a classic back and forth battle of two warriors. Heart indeed!

by enzo-enormous on Sep 17, 2009 1:51 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Back and forth battle it may have been but neither showed that they will be much more then 2nd tier fighters.

by NorthStar on Sep 17, 2009 3:01 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Sometimes a good old fashion brawl between “2nd tier” fighters is WAY better than watching the best in the world dance around the whole fight. Not everybody can be Anderson Silva. Free on a Wednesday, it was perfect for my taste.

Good post BNF. I like your style.

I have a new found respect for Tim and Guillard and Kimbo Slice after last night. What a great night of MMA.

You know surprisingly enough, Kimbo seemed like one of the more mellow, more respectful people coming into this season. You know? Know what I’m sayin?

That his street cred. It came out a little last night

Very entertaining fight but the lack of technique was painful.

They both need to work on their footwork and boxing defense.

I love when he said " I can’t recall ever being knocked down in the first round….wait…wait….except for when Franklin finished me.

Im sure it seemed longer than it was but it was almost like he forgot for a second. What a great fight… too bad it started at 8:16 and we watched the lead up BS in lieu of the Stephens TKO.

Loved the whole card – didn’t really see a lot of losers yersterday

What was Quarry saying about decisions right before this fight again? haha

by Crackbaby on Sep 17, 2009 1:45 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Pure class and heart from both these guys!

by jin on Sep 17, 2009 1:46 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Absolute war. Tim surprised me. Both guys are real gamers. No quit in either of them. I wonder where Quarry goes from here? How about Bisping or Kang?

by RobH86 on Sep 17, 2009 1:46 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

or the winner of bisping vs kang.

Fight of the night for me! A real war!

I put this fight in the race for fight of the year along Sanchez-Guida. What a great night of mma that was.

by 2TimePennConqueror on Sep 17, 2009 7:36 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

That’s why I don’t fight. I tried boxing at a fairly decent level for about a year and came to the conclusion that I don’t like getting hit in the face or absorbing pain.

by Adam T. on Sep 17, 2009 1:51 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

it took a year of getting punched in the face to realize it? how do you decide what cereal you like?

by mike on Sep 17, 2009 1:57 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

LOL. I liked the conditioning and learning aspects of the training. But when I started sparring with some badasses, not so much. Decided I could workout on my own and wasn’t ever going to become a competitive fighter.

Mike LOL. LO fuckin L.

Awesome picture and one hell of a fight! Thought it was over a couple times but either fighter knew what the quitting was!

I am not an animal, I am a human being! Holy shit I can;t believe this is what the winner looks like…Tim wasn’t that bad at the end of the fight was he?

by Da Monkey on Sep 17, 2009 2:14 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Great fight. Quarry is painfully slow tho, always knew he was.. But time has not done him any favours.

by Ray on Sep 17, 2009 2:15 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

wow thats what i noticed slow as fuck

by mike on Sep 17, 2009 4:09 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I would guess that even in a losing effort, Tim gained a lot of fans. I never thought too much of this guy before the fight, but now I can say I would like to see him fight again. The back and forth (especially in rd.3) had me sreaming at the t.v. for someone to get KTFO. All I can say is WOW, what a fight. Quarry is a Bada$$ and Tim went punch for punch with him. I’ll root for Tim from now on.

by BeerManG on Sep 17, 2009 2:48 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Yeah he has my vote too. he reminded me alot of a younger Forrest Griffin. It was a good battle

Agreed Mr. Beer Man…

by BNF on Sep 17, 2009 3:20 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Quarry will be a easy fight for Bisping. The guy seemed ill he was really slow and hardly held his hands up it was strange to watch. Tim should be embarrased he didnt win.

by Tony on Sep 17, 2009 2:55 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Sick fight, no technique on show but these 2 are true warriors and gave everything that they had to win this fight, if Tim had have been more cautious in the second round and hadn’t been so desperate to finish the fight he would have won but full credit to Nate for landing that big punch that changed the fight, as for Tim for surviving so many big shots in the later rounds. I was already a fan of both men and now I have even more respect for their heart and desire. I’m looking forward to seeing them both compete again.

by David W-S on Sep 17, 2009 3:02 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

A great war …but I saw that right hand miss a few times in the 1st rd and I knew he was going to get caught. I mean everyone knows Nate has a big right , but he was setting it up all day. I cant believe Tim stayed awake! And same with Condit! Great chins, great warrior spirits and def. one of the better UFC’s I have seen in a while! And it was FREE and no title shots and no “big names”

by robbyc on Sep 17, 2009 3:17 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Gotta love Nate’s Heart…but seriously he’s going to get hurt really bad in the cage again, it’s only a matter of time.

Did anyone catch the license plate # of the truck that hit Quarry? Unfortunately this was the one fight I missed. I hope they replay the UFN soon so I can see it, cuz after readin this thread, I’m pretty bummed I missed. I wouldve rather heard Credeur got the W tho.
