UFC Fight Night 19 bonuses and awards for 'Diaz vs Guillard' Spike TV fights

UFC Fight Night 19: "Diaz vs. Guillard" from the the Cox Convention Center in Oklahoma City, Okla., has officially wrapped, which means that itβs time for those select fighters who went above and beyond in their respective fights to get a little extra grease for their efforts.
To the tune of $30,000 each.
The promotion dished out its standard post-fight monetary bonuses to four out of the 20 fighters on the card. And it may not come as a shock whose wallets are leaving "The Sooner State" a little heavier.
In addition to their base salaries, the UFC awarded middleweight strikers Nate Quarry and Tim Credeur "Fight of the Night" for their gritty, back-and-forth 185-pound war.
"The Rock" proved he still has plenty of heart, coming back to win a "Crazy" finish after getting popped on several occasions in the first round.
Jeremy Stephens may not have had much competition when all was said and done -- his TKO over Justin Buccholz (cut) was the only one on the card -- but it was still good enough to earn him "Knockout of the Night."
As expected, lightweights Melvin Guillard and Nate Diaz threw leather for a majority of their fight, with "The Young Assassin" doing most of the damage in the first round. However, Diaz proved why he is so dangerous on the ground, tapping out Guillard with a slick guillotine choke in the second round and securing a "Submission of the Night" bonus.
Here are the special fight bonuses for UFC Fight Night 19:
Fight of the Night β Nate Quarry vs. Tim Credeur
Knockout of the Night β Jeremy Stephens
Submission of the Night -β Nate Diaz
Again, each fighter received $30,000 extra for their performances in addition to their respective base salaries, which we will pass along as soon as possible. The Spike TV event drew approximately 7,500 fans for a reported live gate of $650,000.

Hey Stink I told you Nate was starting to act alot like Nick. I find it funny when he trys to flex. But I knew he had to many tools for Melvin. Great fight on Nates part, Im still a big fan!
by JV on Sep 17, 2009 1:08 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
jv, im not sure i understand.
how was he acting like nick?
talking shit in the cage while fighting?
by stinky~fingers on Sep 17, 2009 1:11 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
the flex stance is just a “ghetto thing”.. it’s just showing ur confident or brave, thats all..
by stinky~fingers on Sep 17, 2009 1:13 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Throwing his hands up after getting hit. Isnt that what Nick does? The “ghetto flex” is what I’ll call it!
by JV on Sep 17, 2009 1:19 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
yeah, but thats how nate has always fought..
that is one of the simularities they have..
but he’s definitely not trying to “act” like his bro, it comes natural..
to be honest nates stand up didn’t look up to par tonight.
by stinky~fingers on Sep 17, 2009 1:50 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
was pretty lame when he did that though, he waved him in like “come on” and then straight away went to take him down, that’s as far from ghetto and tough as u can come.. Melvin had that fight in the bag, he just gave it away, not thinking at all..

Guillard threw that fight away. He abandonned a great strategy to score points on the judge’s cards.
Condit-Ellenberger was a draw. 10-8 first rd for Steve. If fact i thought Condit was out when he covered his face and didn’t move. Should have been stopped IMO.
by NameNotRequired on Sep 17, 2009 8:37 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
yep, can’t believe they didn’t score the 1st rnd 10-8 to Ellenberger.. also can’t believe Huerta didn’t win the 1st rnd on all scorecards

nNR: I agree that the Condit fight should have been stopped, but I am thrilled that it didnt. I lost a lot of money on Larson and Cantwell. Condit losing would have been a disaster for me. Luckily I fought back to win my money back and go up 12 bucks total or the night(lol) winning money on Diaz,Maynard (which I only bet after losing a ton on prelims),condit, Quarry, and stephens. Making my total for the evening +12! hahahahahahaha
Ellenbereger should have gotten the stoppage, but props to Condit for showing his toughness and fighting back. If he had 2 more minutes left he would have finished Elenbereger. I will say that either Ellenbereger was all greased up, or Condit’s jits was really sloppy. He slipped off Jake every time he attempted anything. If Jake didnt grease, then Carlos should be really dissaspomted in the uncharecteristicaly sloppy jits that he displayed last night. Normally he could have ended that fight about 10 different occasions with various submissions.
Wish I bet more on Nate, but I let all you fools scare me withh your bogus Melvin upset special, crazy talk! lol..I wasnt going to bet the Maynard fight, but after losing a ton on Larson I used Nate to chase my lost money, and I am happy I caught up to it. lol.
Quarry is no better then Kimbo slice! lol. He is terrible, but his heavy hands always save him. Happy they did, cause I had money on him.
I will say that Crueder is improving.
Elenberger is tough and a good find by Joe Silva.
Melvin still cant win a big fight.
Nate is the man!
Maynard has Sean Sherk syndrome and now also fancies himself as a striker.
Huerta is better then I thought especially coming off a lay off!
Dont understand how the Fock, Cantwell lost to Stan!
Baffled by how Larson lost a decision getting out wrestled!
Thrilled that stephens sliced buckholtz open, cause i needed that win badly!
Melvin should be fighting someone like Sam stout or Spencer Fisher

I can’t believe 2 of the judges scored it 30-27 for Condit. There’s no way Condit won the first round!

what the fock? did they really score it 30-27?
by RoBerto on Sep 17, 2009 6:53 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Nate had nothing for Melvin on the feet so i wouldn’t go as far to say it was a “great” fight for Diaz.
I hope the UFC gives Melvin a few fights against some fighters who aren’t submission specialsts, and that Guillard focuses on submission and takedown defense.
by Ermac on Sep 17, 2009 9:24 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Nate looked horrible, he won b/c Melvin gave him the win.. the lesser fighter wins sometimes
by RoBerto on Sep 17, 2009 10:46 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Nate’s standup was looking waaay better in round 2 than in round 1 – plus Nate is always a slow starter. He got tagged and dropped by Melvin’s first overhand right. From that one punch, he was able to begin timing Melvin and Melvin didn’t land that same punch again and Nate would have the counter each time.

I like Credeur as a person, and the fight was entertaining, but it bugs me how the sloppiest fights are the most celebrated in the UFC. Seriously, what the hell is with Tim’s chin sticking out like that? Does he not know what an accurate striker will do against defence like that? MMA guys need to use their shoulder to protect their chins more, like we learn in boxing.
by Jeremyjackson on Sep 17, 2009 1:15 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
yeah, Quarry’s standup is terrible also. I mean what was Credeur thinking running forward like that with his chin up in the air. He could have easily kept his cool and distance for the whole fight and that way won easily!
by RoBerto on Sep 17, 2009 2:13 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
btw jeremy there was no defense at all.

agreed JJ…crazy/quarry was def sloppy yet entertaining…imo condit/ellenwhatever shoulda got fight of the night…very entertaining fights all round though!!! nice comeback by Nate too! It shoulda been called Fight Night 19 " A Night of Chins"

Quarry has the most mechanical standup in the universe. Then again it’s the UFC so stand and bang MAN!!! This is why i hate chris lytle nowadays.

It’s pretty fun to hear how Kenny is all over Quarry “Im so impressed with his improved standup” what? He is terrible standing up..
by RoBerto on Sep 17, 2009 10:48 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I think he was far beyond exhausted, they both were. Both guys took a lot of hits but it did get sloppy. When they were stood up in round 3 nate couldn’t get up right away. I thought the Condit fight was better. Talk about a come back he looked like he lost twice in one round, guess he wasn’t out cause he came back and won.
by hatteras on Sep 17, 2009 9:05 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
And Condit looked stronger in the 3rd round than he did at the beginning of the fight (minus the fact he got rocked). It was the same in the Kampmann fight, if it went 5 rounds, Carlos would have won the decision. His conditioning, heart, determination, and chin can NEVER be questioned!

Thursday morning conversation*************
Alright men, I’ll cover the whole night right here.
Quarry fight was great, glad Quarry won!
Maybe I’m a little out of line, but Carlos Condit (who I’m a huge fan of) needs to get back to basics. His ground game was pretty sloppy. He had mont and dominant positions and instead of keeping his cool and working the ground, he was sloppy and gave up those dominant positions. He won, but I wasn’t impressed by the win!
I have to give credit where credit is due, Gay Laynards stand up looked decent and in my honest opinion was better than Huerta’s. The only reason I bring this up is because I’ve been pretty hard on Gay for a while now for really liking to hump his opponent!
Nate Diaz… I wasn’t overly impressed! I’m the biggest Nick Diaz fan, but don’t get overly excited for the younger, less mature and less skilled Diaz brother! Guillard was controlling and winning that fight (with take downs I may add) and just made a stupid mistake. Props to Diaz for the win, but I’d pay to see the rematch!
As far as the night as a wole, over an hour of commercials doesn’t intterest me. the promos during a ppv are annoying enough, but man a 2 hour show that really only has 53 min. of fights?
************TUF********
Man do I wish they could have saved that wrestler for Kimbo. Wasn’t an overly exciting episode, and I’m sick of all the Kimbo hype! I knoe=w it’s all about business and money, but for a guy that Dana says ha no skill, he’s the only guy getting hype and hyping the show for the UFC. Just kinda lame, there are 15 other guys.
One other thing I notice, is it in Rampage’s contract that he has to try (and I mean try) to be funny every time the camera is on him? I like naturally witty people (I happen to be one), but the great thing about wit is it comes naturally, it isn’t force fed to me every time I see somebody.
overall I’d give the night a 7, it could have been an 8 with one more fight on the fight night card shown and cut out one of the 5 minute promos for a video game!
by kevin on Sep 17, 2009 2:16 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I thought Condit had a good showing.
He couldn’t keep the mount because he had a stronger opponent.
by KS on Sep 17, 2009 9:17 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Kev, I wanted to know from a Diaz fan perspective, how many times that you saw Nate connecting with his punches last night? The fight is not on fightmetric yet and I’m in the assumption that Nate didn’t even touched Melvin once. What have you seen in that fight?
by Alpha Male on Sep 17, 2009 3:11 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
BTW it’s a figure of speech… I know that he connect more than once but not that much either.
by Alpha Male on Sep 17, 2009 3:17 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Kevin great recap. only one disagreement. Kimbo would have beat that wrestlers ass!! Now I’m no Kimbo fan, but he wouldn’t have laid on his back and did absolutley nothing but grab his own ankle every few minutes. (man Abe had no flexiblity) He would have fought. Abe didn’t fight. Everyone blogging here could do what Abe did and some here would probably have done better! I question his 6 wins! but great recap!! I hate video game comercials that are mimi movies! Show me the game in play dammit!!!
by getrawbc on Sep 17, 2009 9:26 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Abe had a better ground game than Kimbo. Madsen would have been one of the absolute worst matchups for Kimbo. You are either insane or the GrillMaster from Kimbo’s BBQ’s
by ViolentMike on Sep 17, 2009 11:05 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I wasn’t even going to respond Mike. Kimbo woulda gotten mauled just the same!
by kevin on Sep 17, 2009 11:11 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
VM I’m not saying Abe doesn’t have better ground game than Kimbo. Although I do question where he hid it for that fight. However!!! Kimbo has better takedown defense than Abe and when I say that wouldn’t have happened to Kimbo I mean he would have been tougher to take down and would have been fighting a lot harder than Abe if he did get taken down i thought Abe showed no heart or desire to win that fight. He was content to lay there and survive. If you think kimbo wouldn’t have fought harder than you are just hating because you know i’m right. and I’m not a kimbo fan I’m a fight fan and that fight sucked@@@@@@@@

By the way, am I the only one that thinks the Condit fight should have been stopped?
by kevin on Sep 17, 2009 11:18 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I don’t think it should have been stopped kevin. I think the ref for once did an excellent job. Did he fetal up? yes but when ellenberger tried to finish he recovered and defended. Had ellenberger been able to tag him one or two times when he fetaled, then it would have been stooped. but each time he was content to jump on top of condit. I feel that was his mistake there.
,
My question is how many times does a ref have to say "What the back of the head Carlos, before it’s a point because he said it like 50 times.
by getrawbc on Sep 17, 2009 11:31 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Sorry guys one other thing…
Greg Jackson and a college educated disciplined fighter (Rashad) as coaches or Rampage (I’ll walk off) and Tiki as coaches? I think Rashad takes this season easily!
I do agree with Rampage about the glove touching. Touch once (if you really find it necessary) and then fight… congratulate the guy after the fight!
by kevin on Sep 17, 2009 2:18 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
ok, one last thing, I’m reading all you guys saying the guy is a douche for shooting in while the other guy is touching gloves. I’m old school when it comes to sportsmanship (cant stand guys like Chad Johnson who thinks is great every time he does HIS JOB)!!!
The ref says fight and the clock is ticking. you’ve already touched gloves, said good luck and fought a round!
The ref doesn’t say “ok guys it’s round 2, touch gloves and fight.”
by kevin on Sep 17, 2009 2:35 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
NEVER TOUCH GLOVES AT THE START OF A ROUND!!! NEVER!!! If you have a stare down, the ref says if you want to touch gloves do it now. It is not mandatory to start every round with a high five. I can see if the two had bad blood leading up to the fight and didn’t touch gloves at the start. Then they proceed to have a hard fought war. Now, going into the last round they agree to touch to show that they have new respect for one another, ok I can live with that. But coaches need to let these rookies know that when the Ref says fight. YOU FIGHT!! There’s plenty of time to be mr. nice guy later.
PS. Dickhead move though to use the handtouch as a takedown setup. Kinda like Manvil using it to set up a kick. Not saying it was illegal or unfair. You’re in there to fight not shake hands, but still a dickhead move none the less

guess it wasn’t so foolish for us to see diaz being able to pull a submission off

don’t know if it posted or not so I’ll repeat it….Not so crazy to think diaz would sub him after all like people were saying… the guy really needs to learn sub defense thats the 7th one he has gotten into

i wanna watch the stephens fight.
i cant believe melvin kept clinching and taking him down.. points i guess? but its just not worth the risk, oviously. he now has 9 losses, 7 of them submissions i believe.
by AzCombat on Sep 17, 2009 12:51 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
All chokes at that! He does it everytime, get super aggressive and boom he is tapping out. Outside of that he is fun as hell to watch. He needs to figure something out when it comes to his choke defense…
by Da Monkey on Sep 17, 2009 6:32 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Getting the better of all exchanges so you play possum for no reason and then charge head first into a guillotine. And I have laugh at myself for thinking Guillard could ever put it together.

He stoof up most of the fight. Outside of a few takedowns mElvin was the one going for takedowns. He was really starting to find his range and rhythm in the standup when Melvin once again did his best turtle impression and said Hey look at how long my neck is!!!!
by Da Monkey on Sep 17, 2009 6:35 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
when somebody gives up their neck why not take it… he did stand up for most of the fight

Gotta’ hand it to Maynard, his standup looks crafty n’ polished, very impressive… Huerta as always, a ton of heart. I hope he has a fruitful career whatever it is he does.

guillard doesn’t suprise me… when the going gets tough and he starts to look gassed, he loses heart and his explosivness… maybe he’s just not mentlly tough enough to get further than where he’s at now.

Personally I preferred Condit vs. Ellenberger over Quarry vs. Credeur for FOTY
by VEe on Sep 17, 2009 4:47 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
great night of fights.quarry credeur was a tear up but tim should learn to put his chin on his shoulder.i think they need to look at the scoring because ellenburger deserved a draw imo.how can u not give the first round 10-8.what the judges are basically saying is u can get destroyed for a round win the next 2 closely and get the w.one of the judges gave the quarry/credeur round 10-8 so its all about consistency.anyway jake will get a contract either way and looks a solid pro he just needs to work on his gnp.roger done better than i expected it was never a 30-27 fight gray just reminds me of a mini koschek always looking for that overhand right.and nate did what nate does gets beat up for a bit and then pulls out a sub.
