Mirko, I really hop this is your comeback to greatness. Would be great to see him standing over Brock after a powerful leg kick. (Sadly, I think this is just a fan’s dream.)

awesome dream, when i read this i got the image of ali standing over liston, only with cro cop standing over brock

it really is, and Crotia is one of Europe’s most beautiful countries..

cro cop has fought and beaten some of the best in the world, while Dos Santos has beaten one legitimate opponent in Werdum, who looked like he did 90% of his training at Dunkin Donuts, Cro Cop is going to crush Dos Santos

Maybe I’m just buying in to the hype. Like some have mentioned before, no fighter is going to be negative pre-fight. They are all always going to be much improved and in the best shape of their lives. But I just get the feeling Mirko is really back. Now I don’t know if he will hold the belt. But I think he’ll give us a couple more exciting KO’s.

You know what man, these dreams are meant to be shattered. Sorry, but Crop-CO is a 1-trick pony…

man i hate croatia
for football reasons or as Americans would call it soccer reasons
anyway
i will be rooting for dos santos, not because i hate croatia but because i would rather see young talent rise above ageing talent
+ this young talent is exciting as hell! (not taking anything away from cro cop)

Basically, Big Nog, the winner of this fight, the winner of Kongo/Mir, the winner of Velasquez/Rothwell should have a four-man mini-tournament to determine the next two HW contenders.
Obviously Nog and Dos Santos won’t fight each other, and Velasquez/Kongo has already happened, but matchups should be made between these guys once the smoke clears.
by Jeremyjackson on Sep 11, 2009 7:30 PM EDT up reply actions
i don’t think lesnar will want to wait for a mini tournament to pan out
by ufcaddict on Sep 11, 2009 8:17 PM EDT up reply actions
He could fight the winner of one contender fight while the other is still upcoming.
by Jeremyjackson on Sep 11, 2009 8:44 PM EDT up reply actions
I like the idea of a tournament, JJ, but not just for contender status. I think it should be a Grand Prix like Pride used to do and Brock should be right there in the mix. Actually, what I really prefer are tournaments where you don’t know who you’re fighting till you show up, and you have to beat 3 guys in one night to take the trophy. To me, that’s the real test of who’s the best fighter. UFC’s motto is “As Real As It Gets” but in the real world, in a real fight, you don’t get 3 months to train for the specific strengths and weaknesses of a particular opponent. You have to fight whoever attacks you and be ready for anything he throws at you.

I’m really getting behind Cro Cop for this one. I’ve been a long time fan of his and I’m really feeling that this IS the fight to start the ball rolling for title contention.
by MeanGene on Sep 11, 2009 3:07 PM EDT reply actions
Mine is seeing Randy Couture beat Machida and recapture the LHW title one more time. (I do believe he’s got a better chance than anyone else, stylistically speaking.) Then, if your dream comes true, and CroCop is HW champ, Randy could fight him and we could see the old man take that belt one more time too! sigh Dangit, where’s Beyonce’ with my pina colada!

You’re right Matt, Beyonce is slowin’ my roll…somebody tell Jessica Alba and Halle Berry that there’s a position open right behind Leonor Varela…and hold the jalepenos on them nachos.

lyoto is too “ELUSIVE” for anybody so you might as well give randy a shot….war couture
by jbone on Sep 11, 2009 4:05 PM EDT up reply actions
‘zactly, jbone! And eluding a punch is different from eluding a guy who pushes you against the fence and takes you down. It’s still a long shot, but I’d say Randy has a better chance of getting a takedown than anybody has of landing significant strikes standing with Machida. Shogun will be the test. If Shogun can’t hit him, nobody can (ex Anderson).
by shonuff on Sep 12, 2009 2:27 AM EDT up reply actions
he will win this time. Dos Santos can’t kick so he is toast
by hatteras on Sep 11, 2009 3:18 PM EDT reply actions
Randleman can’t kick, and he did just fine. Plus, are you really sure Dos Santos can’t kick? Most people didn’t know Gabe could kick until he KTFO’d Cro Cop.
by Pat on Sep 11, 2009 3:36 PM EDT up reply actions
cro cop didnt kick me much in their second fight. hahaha
by chris on Sep 11, 2009 4:04 PM EDT up reply actions
Dos Santos is a good test for CroCrop to see where he stands. Definitely not a title-shot granting fight, but if he wins that one, I believe he is gonna get Big-Nog and whoever wins that fight is getting a shot at the champ.
by Skope on Sep 11, 2009 3:26 PM EDT reply actions
Cro Cop looks beastly right there; lots of punch’s n bunch’s. I feel even more strongly now that Dos Santos is eating canvas.
by O damn he got caught on Sep 11, 2009 3:29 PM EDT reply actions
This fight has a lot of potential for both guys, I’d love to see Cro Cop kick Dos Santos’s head right into the 3rd terrace where I’ll be sitting for this event!! I think I’m looking forward to this fight more so than the main event…I can’t wait! Does anyone know if the weighins are at the AA center?
by Chadx23 on Sep 11, 2009 3:46 PM EDT reply actions
Lil Nog vs Luis Cane @ UFC 105.Good fight but that can’t be the main event can it?
by JT on Sep 11, 2009 3:55 PM EDT reply actions
Great fight forsure. I doubt that will be the main event. Dana still has something up his sleeve. I see Cane winning that one.
by Skope on Sep 11, 2009 4:00 PM EDT up reply actions
Cane vs Lil Nog at 105 is supposed to be happening.

Why do people ride randy so hard? Congrats you have a horrible mma record and have successfully defended the belt what one time? Lets all get on our hands and knees now and praise him
by RandycoutureISTRASH on Sep 11, 2009 4:33 PM EDT reply actions
maybe its his age and everytime people count him out and say hes passed it, he gets a win and a convincing 1 too.
by boyer on Sep 11, 2009 5:10 PM EDT up reply actions
nah these two are right, he had his first professional bout in MMA at the tender young age of 34, with plenty of time to learn and adapt his style of fighting since 34 is about the age most pro athletes start their carreers. From there went on to beat Tito Ortiz, Chuck Liddell, Vitor Belfort, Pedro Rizzo, Tim Sylvia, Gabe Gonzaga (all complete bums) and continues to be competitive at the highest level of the sport against top competition at the young age of 46. Nothing special there, that happens all the time. Seriously…
by O damn he got caught on Sep 11, 2009 5:22 PM EDT up reply actions
Yeah, like I was saying about Randleman…you can’t judge a fighter based just on his W/L record when he’s been fighting the top guys in the world for over a decade. Sure Randy may have lost over 30-40% of his fights, but he’s fighting top-5 level fighters every single fight. Comparing that to an unbeaten record by JDS or Carwin is absurd cause those guys just now got in the major leagues. Whooptydoo, they’re unbeaten against 10 nobody’s. If you wanna compare their record to Randy or CroCop then Dos Santos’ “professional” record against ranked fighters is 1-0 same as Carwin. Or 2-0 and 3-0 if you count their UFC no-name undercard fights.
I’m not a baseball fan, but do they count hits in the minors as part of a player’s major league batting average? I kinda doubt it. Would you say a player who batts 300 in minor league season games was as good as a player who batts 200 in the playoffs of the major league?
by shonuff on Sep 12, 2009 2:45 AM EDT up reply actions
lol….I’ll always cheer for Randy for the fact that hes only 46 and so young and always expected to win everyfight he is in easily!
by Chadx23 on Sep 12, 2009 3:07 AM EDT up reply actions
If you take age out of the equation, Randy is good, not great! Simple as that!
by john G on Sep 12, 2009 2:07 PM EDT up reply actions
I will actually say that Randy was a great LHW…but as a Heavyweight, He was never anything special, and right now, I wouldnt Rank him in the top 10 of the heavyweight division.
by john G on Sep 12, 2009 2:11 PM EDT up reply actions
well, that would put you in disagreement with every ranking system I’ve ever seen online. I’d be very curious to hear what 10 HW names you come up with that you think should outrank him. Actually, I’d be impressed if you can come up with 10 ranked HWs in the UFC that he hasn’t already beaten.
by shonuff on Sep 15, 2009 2:08 AM EDT up reply actions
Also, John, regarding your comment about Randy’s age and being good rather than great. Are you forgetting that he’s the most decorated champion (at any age) in the history of the UFC and has had more title fights than GSP and Anderson Silva COMBINED!
by shonuff on Sep 15, 2009 2:17 AM EDT up reply actions
That’s not Jean Claude Van Damme and Team Cro Cop right? say it aint so!
by nameless on Sep 11, 2009 4:34 PM EDT reply actions
I really hope that Cro Cop can make a run at it since he is one of my favirotes and since him winning this fight makes so many other interesting fights possible.
Where is the source for the Cane/Lil Nog? On the MMA ahow (in canada) they were talking about Hendo/Lil Nog.

Crocop is going to take this shit round one KO.
by Khaos_Warrior on Sep 11, 2009 5:13 PM EDT reply actions
I hope Mirko takes this. Not that i want to see Dos Santos lose, but i want Mirko to make one last run. Dos Santos is young and has a bright future and there would be no shame to lose to Crocop. He has time to build his name up more! This is Mirkos last run i beleive, and i want to see him go out in style and fight for a title soon!
by manalito on Sep 11, 2009 5:48 PM EDT reply actions
i agree manalito
it’s almost kind of crazy to think they’ve been matched up together, if you look at it from an experience standpoint. I think cro cop is getting overlooked by a lot of people. Not saying dos santos doesn’t have a good shot.
What are the odds out on this fight?
by big G castle on Sep 11, 2009 6:05 PM EDT up reply actions
If Cro Cop can win this one and then one more he will get a shot at Lesnar should Lesnar still be the champ. It would be a huge main event. Let him rematch Gabe if he wins.
by hatteras on Sep 11, 2009 8:51 PM EDT reply actions
top 5 HW according to the MASTER:
1.Fedor (WAMMA, Pride Champion)
2. Brock Lesnar (UFC Champion)
3. Big Nog
4. Allistar Overeem (Strikeforce Champion)
5. Shane Carwin (UFC #1 Contender)
6. Brett Rogers
7. Frank Mir (Only thing keeping him in top 10 is win over NOG… a 50% healthy NOG at that)
8. Randy Coutoure
9. Fabricio Werdum ( was on a tear before the dos santos loss)
10. Josh Barnett and Cain Velasquez ( even though Barnett should not be here)
by zack on Sep 11, 2009 10:26 PM EDT reply actions
Hey Zack,
You say top 5, but have 10 spots, AND THEN you list 11 fighters. I’m sure a brilliant mind like yours has great insight on this topic….to yourself.
And Joe Daddy , (from below)
I’m sure this one minute clip encompasses his entire training camp. Sorry they didn’t show Crocop working his ground game for you. OMG, they didnt show him stretching, I can’t believe Crocop doesn’t stretch before he works out! You mo-mo, Joe Daddy. BTW, tell the 26 badassses that Crocop utterly destroyed how much of a joke Crocop is. I remember the UFC fans being kind of ,“eh, whatever” about Hendo until he turned Bisping into Bangers and Mash. Now he’s a god. Same thing will happen to CC when he dramatically KO’s someone in the UFC. I know, I know, it’s what have you done lately for the UFC fans like you.
Vulcano, (from Below)
Where to start… you really have an alternate sense of reality. Crocop got one of his balls kicked inside his body…literally against Overheem. Is that his fault? Is it Crocop’s fault that the ref didn’t stop the Al-Turk fight? No. And Sorry that CC checked his options with someone other that the sacred, holy UFC. He’s here. He’s taking on a very tough JDS. Sorry this guy did it differently than you (the MMA god) would have done it, something tells me he knows what is best for him, his legacy, and his best chance at a title is….just a little bit more that your fat ass does. I’m just saying.
by Striker Dave on Sep 12, 2009 11:35 AM EDT up reply actions
how come we dont see him working on his ground game in this video? oh thats right its already top notch…what a fucking joke this guy is!!!!!!!!
by joe daddy on Sep 11, 2009 11:09 PM EDT reply actions
Cro-Cop is gunna get KO’d I think. When was the last time he looked good? Was it getting tooled by Overeem or poking Mustafa for a sloppy win? He went from ducking Cain to as Rogan puts it showing everyone that he’s willing to take big chances. He takes the easiest fight possible then negotiates with Dream but ya he’s making a run at the top. He wants to fight in his basement for pride and honor. OR HE COULD JUST BE CASHING CHECKS.
by Vulcano on Sep 12, 2009 1:56 AM EDT up reply actions
I just want American TUF era fans to see what made CroCop a legend. Most U.S. fans only know him for that freakish leg twisting injury when Gonzaga KOd him with a bullet from his own gun. It hurts my feelings that in so many people’s eyes that’s the only image they have of him. I want all my fellow Americans to see the wrecking ball that tore a massive gap through the PRIDE HW division and gave Fedor a war he’ll never forget.
