Great odds in hopes for a huge upset but does anyone think Huerta has a chance?

I dont know how anyone would feel comfortable betting money on Huerta. Too many unknowns. Too much stacked against him. The kid hasnt fought in 13 months, and I cant imagine him spending much time training during that period. Cage RUST has a lot to do with outcomes of fights.
Aso, how can anyone feel comfortable betting money on Roger, when we dont even know how much he cares about this fight. Is his heart in it? its no secret by now that Roger is quitting mma to go into acting/modeling full time.
The UFC is putting him in a stylistic nightmare the way they did to Tito when he was booked to get destroyed by Machida. Contract talks with the UFC broke down when Huerta lost his damn mind and asked or a better deal than BJ Penn. He wanted all types of crazy money and a piece of the ppv % pie. The UFC is booking him to lose against Maynard in case that Huerta changes his mind about his mma future and signs a more lucrative deal with strikeforce. Losing to maynard in his most recent fight will lower his negotiating power with strikeforce as well as the UFC, if he even wants a new deal at all. As a lightweight, being in the UFC isnt as important as it is for Welterweights and LIghtheavyweights, because the UFC has a monopoly on top fighters in those two divisions. Lightweights DONT have to fight in the UFC to get big fights against some of the best in the world. If Huerta goes and fights outside the UFC, he can still face top opponents like:
Shinya Aoki, JZ, Hellbow, Kawajiri, Ishida, Melendez, thompson, Eddie Alvarez, Nick Diaz…and of course, there is one of my stylistic dream fights waiting for HUerta outside of the UFC:
Roger Huerta vs. Takanori Gomi!
I dont think Huerta is one of thhe best LW’s, but he is definitely one of the more entertaining, so I woould LOVE to see him continue his mma career, regardess of its in the UFC or not, but so far, word on the street is that Huerta is done with the sport which would be a shame.
I cant pick or bet Huerta in this fight with Maynard. Its a bad fight for him stylistically. Cage Rust will play a factor, and we dont even know if he cares about this fight or just wants to get it over with so he can fulfill his contractual obligations with the UFC and move on with his life. If Huerta some how wins this fight, I would be very impressed!

of course he does, Gray may do well in MMA but Roger is a better fighter… lets put it this way, Gray fights great (hugs guys to death) but Roger is a great fighter

There are two guys I truly respect in the lightweight and they are Huerta and Sanchez. If we ever see a lightweight going up to welterweight again without making a fool of himself and pose a serious threat to GSP, I think it will be from one of those two. "If" such a thing ever happen.

There he is! Methinks training with Dave Menne isn’t enough but whatever. What does he care.
by DSmith on Sep 11, 2009 8:12 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Btw- I love Roger but he is crazy if he thinks he didn’t need to clean up/sharpen his game technique wise. I’ll still be rooting for him all the way even though Maynard will probably win.

What he needed to do was to refine his defensive skills, his offense has been working perfectly all along! some guys just needs to be animals and Roger is one of those guys…
Ain’t no ugly a$$ american farmboy gonna beat Roger!

Whats wrong with Americans, f*ckstick? I bet you live in America, you shouldnt talk down about the people who let you live in their native country.

RoB is Swedish and lives in Sweden, he wasn’t bashing Americans he always bashes Gray for being an ugly farmboy and a boring fighter with no personality.

Native, as in where you were born. I’m just saying, I think Roberto was being slightly prejudice in his statement. By saying “ugly American farmboy”. That’s like me saying dirty little Mexican…..get it?

by Lester The Pimp on Sep 12, 2009 7:53 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Lester RoB’s Swedish so using a racial slur against Hispanics is really ignorant, it’d be like calling me a French frog it just wouldn’t make any sense at all.
RoB wasn’t even being racist in the first place, he just hates the typical American amateur wrestlers from the country not because they’re American but because they mainly boring fighters and personalities. He always bashes Gray Maynard I don’t get why all of you are throwing a hissy fit and your attempts to be racist towards him are both insulting and laughable.

I agree that he needs to do more than train with Menne to reach his potential but Roger doesn’t seem interested in fighting anymore. He is more bothered about being an actor and a model. I was a Roger fan but he seems done with the sport and the UFC have put him against a difficult opponent who just so happens to have boring fights and have done nothing to promote it, they are expecting and hoping that Huerta gets clay and grayed to a decision. I’ll be amazed it Roger wins this one.
It’s such a shame what has happened to Huerta as he seemed to have a lot of talent and looked to be the guy to crack the Hispanic market for MMA, but he has gotten too big for his boots and the fire is gone. He matches up horribly with Gray and this one has Maynard UD written all over it.
by David W-S (the only respectable poster named David) on Sep 11, 2009 9:58 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Agreed. I didn’t think he was sour on the sport before. I think he was just trying to get paid and not screw over the UFC by turning down fight after fight (see Rampage), so he decided a break from the sport would be best. Being so young he had plenty of time to come back it, but being shut out by the UFC for almost a year and what not- his attitude has probably got more to do them not so much the sport itself. Maybe some time and maturity will change that. I’d really like to see him fighting for the organization again.

How hard can Heurta really be training if this is his last fight?
by Muscle Dolphin on Sep 11, 2009 8:25 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
I agree with Muscle Dolphin he can’t be in the right mindset if he’s saying after this fight he’s gonna b making movies. The motivation must not be there while Gray Maynard may get title shot if he wins this fight so i think mentally huerta has nothing to gain but who knows?just my opion.
And who else thinks this should be the MAIN EVENT?
by Jme on Sep 11, 2009 8:36 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
i think this is probably the best thing he could have done these guys know him the made him his technique and everything good move im a big huerta fan i dont care if he fights ever again or makes movies or whatever i support him in wat he does this is a true fan not all the banwagons junping on or off HUERTA WILL TAKKE THIS ONE!
by elmatador1990 on Sep 11, 2009 9:53 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
I agree with Muscle. I looks like to me he’s already checked-out mentally. I think he’s thinking about other things like a movie career and whatnot. Which sucks because I love Huerta one of my fave fighters. I hope he hands Maynard his first lost, but it’s a long shot. He’s training looked week. I hope I’m wrong, I hope he wins by pound his face in with see Gray’s anatomy. Then I will never doubt Roger again.

top 5 HW according to the MASTER:
1.Fedor (WAMMA, Pride Champion)
2. Brock Lesnar (UFC Champion)
3. Big Nog
4. Allistar Overeem (Strikeforce Champion)
5. Shane Carwin (UFC #1 Contender)
6. Brett Rogers
7. Frank Mir (Only thing keeping him in top 10 is win over NOG… a 50% healthy NOG at that)
8. Randy Coutoure
9. Fabricio Werdum ( was on a tear before the dos santos loss)
10. Josh Barnett and Cain Velasquez ( even though Barnett should not be here)
by zack on Sep 11, 2009 11:06 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
1 Fedor (nuff said)
2 Nog (a beast when motivated)
3 Carwin (Lets see how Lesnar does with someone his own size)
4 Rogers (Very hungry – always out of shape but a Wrecking Machine)
5 Barnett (Roids yes – Still great fighter yes)
6 Cain (Too Impressive over Kongo – Best technical wrestler in HW)
7 Jr. Dos Santos (WAY underrated – Very Scary potential)
8 Lesnar (Too early – he beat an old man who should be fighting LHW and a skinny Mir and everyone thinks he can hang with Fedor)
9 Mir (Mr. Idiot – why would anyone taunt Lesnar)
10 Alex Emelianenko (Just read his wikipedia page – needs to fight more. UFC should grab him)
I respectfully could not agree less with Overeem. Dude has never won against a top guy even much smaller guys. Shogun abused him not once but twice both 1st round KOs, LITTLE Nog destroyed him, Arona, Chuck the list goes on. The only top guy he has beaten is Belfort. Also lost to Werdum.
Randy is done as a heavyweight. Big heart but no way he is top 10

1 Fedor (nuff said)
2 Nog (when motivated and in shape)
3 Carwin (Will upset Lesnar)
4 Rogers (Always out of shape wrecking machine)
5 Barnett (Still very good)
6 Cain (best technical wrestler in HW)
7 Dos Santos (VERY underrated – Scary potential)
8 Lesnar (Only reason not higher is he has only beaten an old man who should be LWH and a stupid skinny Mir. If he beats Carwin he will get props)
9 Mir – (Mr Idiot – Why would anyone taunt Lesnar – Just not a good strategy)
10 Alex Emelianenko (UFC shoul get this guy) Just read his wikipedia page.
Overeem has never beaten a top guy. Shogun KO’s him in 1st round, not once but twice. LITTLE Nog beat him, Chuck, Arona, Werdum, the list goes on. The only top guy he has beaten is Belfort. Look great against tomato cans.
Randy is done as a heavyweight. Love him, big heart but needs to go to LHW or retire.

Definitely not impressed. I was a big fan, hope he pulls it together for this last fight.
Seriously though. . .how long does he think he can have a career in modeling and acting? He’s not an actor. I don’t think even think he could be champ, but I do know that his fighting career could go a heck of a lot farther than an acting career.
by teaburger on Sep 11, 2009 11:49 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
He already had a 3 film deal inked before he decided to take a break and a book deal. He’ll suck at acting but get his paper and that’s the whole point- make the money while you can and come back to fighting in a little while. Not a bad decision for a 25 yr old. If he’s lucky his book will make Oprah cry and he’ll never have to work again. Lol.

His trainers could very well be half-a$$ing it too. How much motivation can there be for any of them?
UD win for Grey after 15 min of smothering
lay-n-pray, clay-and-grey, princess laynard ect…. Grey needs to do more than just win if he wants a title shot.

I think Huerta will be the better fighter that night and will win by knockout or submission if Maynard wins and he fights the winner of the Penn-Sanchez fight he will for sure lose!
