Kimbo is everywhere lol

I was excited about this season. But the closer it gets it looks like it will be more of the same douchebaggery just bigger douchebags. Wes Sims pretty much confirmed it for me with his quote from the previous thread.

Unfortunate. I guess I will have to DVR it and just watch the fights as I have the last few seasons. I physically can not watch grown men act so dramatic and immature. I keep waiting for a little class in the TUF production and every time I am disappointed.

by wAyNe on Sep 10, 2009 4:45 PM EDT up reply actions

I thought TUF 9 was a little more classy than usual, more focused on fighting and not getting drunk etc

by Ermac on Sep 10, 2009 6:25 PM EDT up reply actions

I think that Roy Nelson was very smart for going through the ultimate fighter. Sure he could have been right into the UFC without going through this show, but he is going to get so much publicity especially if he wins.

This show has the drama of the coaches hating eachother. We had that with Hughes and Serra but both Rampage and Rashad can both talk trash. Hughes sucked at it. We have former NFL players and of course Kimbo Slice. I can’t imagine anything better. It’s going to be interesting to see how everyone hates Kimbo at first. Apparently that changes and it’s going to be cool to see that transition in my opinion. We will get to know more about him than before. Hopefully that will shut people up about how much they hate him for whatever reason.

by RyanHobbs on Sep 10, 2009 11:24 PM EDT up reply actions

Sadly the reason why people hate him is he was given an opportunity that none would have refused. He was given the oppotunity to carry an MMA promotion for mega, mega dollars. He never claimed to be the best. Those words never came out of his mouth, as far as I could recall. There is not a single person out there that would have said “Oh no Sorry, I am going to have to pass on the millions of dollars that you want to pay me, while I go do this backyard brawl for $1000.” He took, the opportunity, has grown from it, and has used it as a catalyst for the rest of his career and financial future. You can’t hate on that. He is obviously not so big headed that he won’t try to work his way up from the bottom again and actually pay his dues by doing the TUF show. He is going in to TUF with a bullseye on his back, since he went from backyards to cable overnight. You have to give this guy some credit.

Da Monkey: Great post! Im not really a Kimbo fan, but I do really like the way he carries himself. None of us would have turned down the opportunities that he was given, yet people still act like immature idiots and crucify him.

He has been very respectful towards my beloved sport, and when opportunities presented himself, he took them. Not much of a fighter, but I definitely dont see any reason top bash the man!

by john G on Sep 11, 2009 9:42 AM EDT up reply actions

Thank You! People have to realize this guy came from one of the crappiest zip codes in Florida and probably one of the crappiest in the country. He managed to not get killed in drive bys, lived through the 1980’s/90’s and the Miami Vice Violence that plagued his area of the city with all the Columbian drug lords, is not a lifer in prison, and managed to make a small little name for himself with the 2 gifts God gave him, his left and his right. The internet made him known and Elite tried to make him King! I would love to be King for a year, a month, hell a day would be nice and make some money while ejoying it. He has been good for the sport and has with a few exceptions remained a fighter who has done nothing but talk respect and love for mma.

by Da Monkey on Sep 11, 2009 10:56 AM EDT up reply actions

kimbo is going 2 win everything. He is the best fighter ever!

by doobieboy on Sep 11, 2009 12:38 PM EDT up reply actions

Da MOnkey, he’s not even close to a thug, he wants you to think he is. From what I read (as usual I will research it to back me up) he had a scholarship to go to miami University and then hurricane andrew came. I want to say academically he was good, but will look it up. He did get “famous” by out striking nobodies in backyards, kudos to him. I used to do that and wasn’t smart enough to film it. He really never knocked anyone out (maybe 1) and isn’t very talented. That all said, i’ve repeatedly defended him for being humble and well spoken in interviews (when not talking tough “you know what I’m saying”)?

by kevin on Sep 11, 2009 12:43 PM EDT up reply actions

exactly what I thought, he was on an academic scholarship, so those of you naive guys who believe the thug/oppressed act are sorely mistaken, you’re the same guys that believe Rampage will get more than a million or 2 for the A-Team movie!

by kevin on Sep 11, 2009 12:45 PM EDT up reply actions

You make it sound like being awarded an academic scholarship is a bad thing. Just because you are poor doesn’t mean you have to be a dumbass. He may not have been some street hustling thug, but he wasn’t exactly white collar either. I mean he was doing security for some budget ghetto porn outfit. Yeah, he plays the thug role up a bit, but so do the Diaz brothers. Just because they really do sound dumb as shit, doesn’t mean I think they were so much more oppressed. I get sick of hearing about fucking Stockton in every interview. Yes, it is not a nice place, but the shady parts of Miami are not exactly Disneyland either.

You make it sound like being awarded an academic scholarship is a bad thing? Just because you may be poor, doesn’t mean you have to be a dumbass too. I don’t think Kimbo was some kind of street hustling thug, but he wasn’t white collar either. He was doing security for some shit-budget porn company. I also get sick of fighters playing up that thug act, but Kimbo isn’t any worse than the Diaz bothers. If I have to hear about Stockton one more time, I am gonna puke. We get it, it is not a nice place, but there are a lot of places in Miami that aren’t exactly Disneyland.

by naturalshadow on Sep 11, 2009 5:17 PM EDT up reply actions

Crap, this is gonna be a double post. Sorry ahead of time guys. haha

Kimbo is everywhere because he made it to the finale.

by real mma on Sep 10, 2009 7:00 PM EDT up reply actions

wanna bet? I’ll bet you one of your paychecks to one of mine!
he’s everywhere because he’s the “biggest name” on the show. you guys are quite naive!!!!

by kevin on Sep 10, 2009 7:04 PM EDT up reply actions

lolz, you’re right kevin..
john g should have mentioned how Tito approached that kid in the gym.. say whatever you want, but he’s obviously a cool person

by RoBerto on Sep 10, 2009 8:56 PM EDT up reply actions

Lol I guess he’s obviously a cool person if you think stupid thugs are cool.

by frosnt on Sep 10, 2009 9:43 PM EDT up reply actions

thug?.. well, u go hang out with your boyfriend

by RoBerto on Sep 10, 2009 10:54 PM EDT up reply actions

Seriously. He hasn’t said anything negative or thuggish for as long as I can remember. Dude is like 34 yet all people seem to want to do is judge him by the way he looks.

by Kenflo4ever on Sep 11, 2009 7:17 AM EDT up reply actions

and by the way he markets himself and his fights. something must have passed you by cause that’s exactly what you should do in the MMA business!

by RoBerto on Sep 11, 2009 8:16 AM EDT up reply actions

I hope so…

by RoBerto on Sep 10, 2009 8:09 PM EDT up reply actions

I have nothing against Kimbo making money and actually think he’s a pretty smart and for the most part well spoken guy, that said, I’m Kimbo’d out! Every other thread is about a guy that won’t win 2 fights on TUF GUARANTEED!
I know I put a spoiler out there months ago that he loses, but put that aside, what does he have that makes you think he can win?
no ground game
no cardio
no chin
no heavy hands (he never even ko’d a youtube nobody.
He is on the show for one reason…ratings which means charging more for advertising. For those of you not familiar with how TV works…MONEY FOR UFC AND SPIKE!!!

by kevin on Sep 10, 2009 3:38 PM EDT reply actions

good interview, like I said, a humble, well spoken guy, I can’t knock him for that and it’s not his fault elite put all their eggs in a 35 year old basket with holes in it (his game)!

by kevin on Sep 10, 2009 3:56 PM EDT up reply actions

no heavy hands!?!?! r u kiddin me. apparently you have seen where he knocked the guys eye out of socket. thats pretty heavy hands if you ask me

by mrc on Sep 10, 2009 6:25 PM EDT up reply actions

Compared to quality strikers in MMA Kimbo doesn’t have heavy hands at all, he couldn’t even drop James Thompson a guy who was handpicked for a highlight reel finish, that stoppage was one of the worst that I’ve ever seen in a fight.

by David W-S (the only respectable poster named David) on Sep 10, 2009 10:41 PM EDT up reply actions

Kimbo is not remotely heavy handed. As Dave says, James Thompson has the biggest glass jaw at HW in the world and Kimbo was nowhere near KOing him.

by attakdog on Sep 11, 2009 5:24 AM EDT up reply actions

I think the only thing keeping James Thompson on his feet was adrenaline and stupidity. He looked absolutely out of it the couple times he got caught with an uppercut.

by tiger_style on Sep 11, 2009 9:38 AM EDT up reply actions

Kimo also said a few things that give away what happens with the UFC, he stated after Franklin asked about not being on a pedestal like in Elite he said “when I lose a fight” if he had been all about winning fights on the show he would have said “if I lose a fight” and he also made referrance to future fights in the UFC whitch says to me that even though he did not win he got a deal for more fights

by jet99 on Sep 10, 2009 4:01 PM EDT reply actions

I think you read too much into it, but obviously he loses, no one except 12-15 year olds expect him to win TUF!

by kevin on Sep 10, 2009 4:03 PM EDT up reply actions

Dana’s just gonna milk Kimbo for all his worth. I respect a guy for even getting into the Octagon without even any amateur experience in any striking or grappling arts. But let’s get real, he couldn’t have won Iron Ring, let alone The Ultimate Fighter.

by Pat on Sep 10, 2009 4:15 PM EDT up reply actions

Kevin he very much did ko a few guys with one punch. There’s one where he breaks the guys orbital bone. And another where he let’s the man hit him 3x in the face before ducking under a right to throw a right of his own to put a different man to sleep.

I’m not youtube’ing to do research right now cause I’m on my BB. But trust me they happened. That aside I too believe the spoiler to be true as he just isn’t well rounded enough & we all kno that.

No matter how much we’d like to see him do well. He Is a good guy tho.

by Daniel worby on Sep 10, 2009 4:47 PM EDT reply actions

Daniel, I know the ones you’re talking about, one of them is hard to find because the guy said he gave up and had his back turned and Kimbo sucker punched him from behind, the orbital bone one is a good example i guess, he couldn’t knock out Collosul. If you think he has heavy hands, you’re mistaken, anyone who knows boxing or punching will tell you.
It’s been a great day, I have finally been taken off of double super secret moderation!

by kevin on Sep 10, 2009 6:33 PM EDT up reply actions

Did anyone else catch that his word association for Brock Lesnar was undefeated? I’m not sure that Frank Mir would agree with you, Kimbo….

by ScissorSweep on Sep 10, 2009 4:51 PM EDT reply actions

Yeah I noticed that.Maybe he meant as champ??

by SluggerCitySoldier on Sep 10, 2009 5:35 PM EDT up reply actions

I guess avenging a loss kind of rectifies a loss in a way? That could sort of mean he is undefeated.

by RyanHobbs on Sep 10, 2009 11:29 PM EDT up reply actions

Yeah ScissorSweep I caught that, he’s definitely not a future commentator, but he did a fair job on MMA Live and he’s an ok guy. I’ve always liked him and will root for him in TUF, win or lose I hope he puts up a great fight… maybe 2.

by DAVE A on Sep 11, 2009 3:17 AM EDT up reply actions

Another good show.

As much as it seems Nate Diaz has the advantage against Guillard, there’s just such a large discrepancy in strength, and it’s not like Guillard doesn’t have skills to defend bjj.

but i’m with kimbo, “Diaz brothers all day”

by big G castle on Sep 10, 2009 5:12 PM EDT reply actions

1. Kimbo is always clinching his fist, that mas is always ready to scrap. Even in the Molley Qerim section, he couldnt help vut have his fist balled up jajaja.

2. Is it just me or was Franklin stuttering alot, seemed intimidated with Kimbo sitting next to him .

3. Head over to UFC.com to see the new preview of TUF, it looks craaaaazy! Rampage going apshit on a door, Rashad and Rampage going at it, one of the contestants punching another guy in the pool, its gonna be a good season!!!

by manalito on Sep 10, 2009 5:42 PM EDT reply actions

i also noticed the stuttering!!!

by kevin on Sep 10, 2009 6:41 PM EDT up reply actions

surprise surprise, Hamilton picks Guillard over Diaz.

by Paul on Sep 10, 2009 5:50 PM EDT reply actions

am i wrong in assuming you mean its a racial thing???

by manalito on Sep 10, 2009 6:20 PM EDT up reply actions

Who is Hamilton? Are you referring to Franklin McNeil?

by RyanHobbs on Sep 10, 2009 11:30 PM EDT up reply actions

I heard from a very good insider that Kimbo Slice has made it to the final!!!

No lie…

by Ali on Sep 10, 2009 5:53 PM EDT reply actions

Does anybody know if/where I would be able to watch Fight Night and TUF replays online. Spike is only on the digital channels up here at school so I dont have it.

by Muffin Stuffer on Sep 10, 2009 6:23 PM EDT reply actions

What martial art is Kimbo disciplined in? Oh, I forgot, none.

by El Mexicutioner, formerly The Mexicutioner on Sep 10, 2009 6:35 PM EDT reply actions

Seriously, why do we have to read about this washed up old bqack yard thug fighter?

by effcrone88 on Sep 10, 2009 7:19 PM EDT reply actions

Well,

at least Kimbo jumped into the deep end with the UFC.

That’s more than we can say for Fedor.

by yoshiman on Sep 10, 2009 7:28 PM EDT reply actions

Hey, dont know if anybody said this yet, but did you guys see the wand fight team shirt on Mayweathers trainer on Mayweather/Marquez 24/7? They made him change it when he worked with mayweather i just thought that was freakin hillarious. Could you imamgine if Greg Jackson showed up to TUF in a boxing shirt? lol

by Sky on Sep 10, 2009 7:59 PM EDT reply actions

I saw him get ass kicked by stand in fighter so I dont pay attention to k s

by kelpheadtwo on Sep 10, 2009 8:02 PM EDT reply actions

whoops, yeah, Franklin. I can’t remember a single time he has ever picked against a black fighter (except when the fight is between two black fighters)…so yes, I think it is a race thing.
