Pacman v Mayweather ever gonna happen?

who cares? boxing sucks!!

by ---Caesar--- on Sep 10, 2009 10:12 AM EDT up reply actions

Possibly. If Mayweather could get past Marquez[and he would], and Pacman dismantles Cotto[if he could], then the superfight[well not really a superfight, nor megafight.it’s an Ultrafight!] is bound to happen.

Money may talk all the sh!te he wants. Pac’s gonna shut him the f*ck up real good. Unless Gayweather’s gonna do some more duckin’! Hehehe!

I agree Mayweather vs Pacman is a huge fight but I personally want to see Mayweather vs P Willaims no joke I think he is his biggest threat.

by Fokman on Sep 10, 2009 1:23 PM EDT up reply actions

Dana isn’t disrespecting Marquez, He is just stating the truth. This is not the fight that everyone wants to see. Most people do not even know who Marquez is. The fight everyone wants to see is Mayweather vs. Pacman. I know that is the fight I want to see. No chance in hell I buy this ppv. Probably will not even catch it at a bar. ESPN highlights are good enough for this one.

by mmafigjam on Sep 10, 2009 4:24 AM EDT reply actions

Typical Dana. Is MMA more exciting…? Yes. Do you get more bang for your buck by purchasing an MMA PPV…? Yes. Will Mayweather vs Marquez out-draw UFC 103 by a metric Sh*t-ton…? Yes.

Boxing is the original combat sport with well over 100 years of history, and dedicated fans worldwide. Its going to be a long time still before a top MMA card will be able to compete with/out-draw a once-a year huge boxing match. I’d say it will be at least another 4-5 years till we really see that gap close.

But in the end, I do see MMA becoming the accepted standard for combats sports.

Cole-

by OJR on Sep 10, 2009 9:16 AM EDT up reply actions

So are you guys saying that you think that Mayweather is going to generate more buys on the 19th than UFC 100? I also think that the fact that the UFC sells a ton of PPVs every friggin’ month should be considered before throwing around that “4-5 year” figure. Per year, MMA and the UFC are way bigger already. I mean, can you imagine the buy rate if for some reason the UFC only did one or two cards next year?
Honestly, I don’t know a whole bunch about the buy rates for these “big” boxing cards but I will be very interested to see how this all shakes down in the end. Especially with the counter programming the UFC is doing on Spike as a lead in to this particular PPV.

by Canucklehead on Sep 10, 2009 10:57 AM EDT up reply actions

Actually, I believe wrestling was the original combat sport when the ancient Greeks got themselves all oily and naked to see who the better man was.

by PW on Sep 10, 2009 11:02 AM EDT up reply actions

If the ufc put on one show a year, it wouldn’t do that much better. Who else is going to purchase it? Not 5 million people! I, like most mma fans but all of them.

It is possible to be a fan of both sports guys! If you are a massive fan of both then Mayweather/JMM is much more of a mouth watering prospect than Franklin vs Belfort. But with a UFCPPV you get a lot more than a main event and as a whole you get far better value for money on the UFC card than with a boxing card.

Dancing with the stars…. that was funny shit…. boxing is a dying breed, & I think now that De La Hoya is out, it’s really on life support here in the states. I was a boxing fan before I was an MMA fan, and if boxing and its alpha-bet belts and promotions was easier to follow I probably still would be.

Mr.Maher is correct- those fights will be awesome when they do happen. Every once and a while, just like in the UFC, you get dream match-ups of super-skilled competitors.

Stop hating and start celebrating ;)

by loup02 on Sep 10, 2009 9:01 AM EDT up reply actions

Nothing boxing offers up anymore is worthwhile in my opinion. The decisions are almost always rigged or questionable and most of the time, Mayweather takes it to a decision. Not to mention the undercards always suck for the $50 we shell out. Boxing screwed itself in the fact that the big matchups would never happen. Since MMA has stepped up and captured the majority of the spotlight, boxing is being forced into big name matchups. I will never pay for a boxing PPV when I can wait a week and watch it on HBO the following Sat.

by slim473 on Sep 10, 2009 8:36 AM EDT reply actions

Dana is full of shit, he has to make UFC 103 free on spike on order to sort of compete with mayweather vs marquez. I will order the Gayweather fight just to watch Marquez beat him.

intro, gotta agree. He may be right about boxing fans being disenchanted in general and not asking for this particular fight but I’m pretty excited for it actually. Not only that but HBO’s 24/7 series is really getting me up for it. I didn’t know all that much about marquez before except that he was a great fighter but he seems like a damn good guy and i’d love to see him take this, throw a wrench in the pac man, mayweather fight and get another crack at manny. ignoring this would have been a better move by dana here. I’d buy it regardless. Always have. Always will. Its a fans duty to watch it live. If ur a huge boxing fan that’s fine as well. But if I’m not mistaken doesn’t sportscenter immediately show highlights of ppv boxing matches all night after the bout?

If so, then ill catch em there. If not i’ll have to figure it out. Maybe get a buddy to order and dvr that.

I tuned in to watch JUDO/Karate in the olympics…just cause I am a fan of the art of fighting.

And DANA knows who Mayweather is fighting..lol

by robbyc on Sep 10, 2009 10:27 AM EDT reply actions

Why do boxers wear those huge gloves with which its impossible to hurt each other?

Oh yeah I forgot, it’s so most fights can go to decision, so promoters can fix the decisions the way they like. People make it out to be “These guys go 12 rounds, they are great athletes”.

But really 12 rounds are necessary because it takes forever to do any damage with those big ass soft gloves.

I’d like to see boxing done with MMA gloves LOL. But boxers would be too scared to do it. Its the only sport like that…artificially prolonged to protect the limited athletes competing in it.

As you can see I am not a boxing fan. But I’m sure a lot of MMA fans will agree. Flame on.

by Skope on Sep 10, 2009 10:44 AM EDT up reply actions

“As you can see I am not a boxing fan”

More obvious is that you’ve never boxed or done any combat sport…otherwise you’d know that getting hit with a left hook to the body hurts just as bad…boxing glove or no boxing glove.

If boxing gloves make it impossible to hurt each other, then why do boxers break their hands all the time?

Go to the gym kid.

Anyway both sports are tough and u obviously dont know caus ur prolly fat and sit by a comp all day. u wuddnt last a second against the worst amateur boxer either way. And if a boxer had 4 ounce gloves on it would over for any mma fighter, do u think randy coutoure could ever in his wildest dreams hit harder than tyson , holyfield lennox lewis, or even maywheter. hahahaha u r a tool, boxing is the only skilled combat sport left. So boxing puts on one show a year that’s worth watching and the UFC puts on 6-8 shows a year. I’ll take the UFC. I used to be a boxing fan(I kinda still am) but let’s face it, it is a dying sport. And that is why you see prominant people taking pot shots at the UFC/MMA is because they feel threatened by it. If they didn’t, why would they even mention it in the first place?

Nothing will discourage any real fans from buying UFC PPV’s. If you get discouraged by something the promoter of an organization ( of which you are a fan of )says about another sport, you’re not a fan to begin with, you are a joke.

lmao…so you’re saying that potential UFC fans are a joke because they are on the fence right now?

I’m not saying that hardcore UFC fans will be turned off, I’m saying that with all Dana’s “we want Mexican fans” talk…this is not the right way to go about getting them.

There are no other fans in combat sports that are as hardcore as Mexican boxing fans, and if they see this of Dana pissing all over one of their fighters, they will never buy a UFC PPV. Dana may as well say that Pacquiao is a loser and piss off all the Filipinos while he’s at it.

by introvert on Sep 10, 2009 11:56 AM EDT up reply actions

I think Dana knows pretty well how to go about things promoting UFC worldwide.

The Mexican “fight fans” realize as well as anyone else that the UFC is the future. You are incorrect in your assumption that Dana’s polarizing comments will move them away from the UFC.

They will buy the PPV and love it. Especially if Cain Velasquez is fighting.

Says a guy who can’t spell his (and my) name only joking mate “Daivd” just cracks me up. Intro is completely right on this one, he is ripping the clowns to shreds in this thread. Dana made himself and MMA look foolish in this press conference, whilst I hate PBF he is a world-class fighter and is a proven draw and insulting JMM like Intro said is ridiculous, how can you expect to expand into Mexico when you bash their top fighter in all combat sports. It was disrespectful and childish of Dana.

Whilst Mayweather-Pacman should have been the fight promoted as that would have been the biggest PPV draw of all time, because everyone wants to see that fight, Pacman-Cotto and PBF-JMM are both awesome fights. Dana is right when he says that these aren’t what boxing fans asked for but if PBF and Pacman both win then get together and agree on a deal to fight then boxing will make Dana look very silly indeed. With PBF-JMM and Franklin-Belfort being shown on free TV over here at the same time it’s going to be a tough choice over which show I watch, chances are I’ll tape the UFC and watch PBF-JMM with my boxing mates but whatever happens it’ll be an excellent day for fight fans and I’m looking forward to both cards.

As far as PPV buys it’ll be interesting to see which one is the biggest draw, personally I think that the UFC have put on a stacked card but will struggle because it is lacking a title fight and Mayweather is a bigger draw than Dana gives him credit for, though I hate the guy and I want him to look daft I have a feeling Money is going to be the one laughing all the way to the bank.

Boxing is still the more skilled sport no matter what, these guys in mma could not cut it in boxing because if they could become champions they would, obviously because the top guy in boxing makes 20 mil a fight and the top ufc fighters makes 5 if hes lucky. any way boxing is gonna come back with names like KELLY PAVLIK , PAUL WILLIAMS , MANNY, ANC COTTO. to show how much better and more skilled fighters boxers are lets see mayorga knock out his opponent in like 5 secs. Put those 4 ounce gloves on any boxer and see what happens!!! MMA For no rhythm white boys and guys who are scared to bang so they need to grab, boxing is for skilled FIGhTERS and true warriors

Zack, you weren’t gonna order the UFC event because you need your mommie’s permission and password to the cable box and she probably won’t give it to you until you break your newspaper-route piggie-bank and pay her in advance.

Dana has made the sport what it is today. If he hadn’t partnered up with the Fertita’s, the UFC would be dead and MMA shows would happen maybe once every 2 months and be unregulated and drug-filled. He says whatever he wants and that’s exactly what made him and the UFC successful. Keep it up Dana, no-one seriously cares about the boxing comments. It will in no way affect the UFC’s standing or sales.

yea that was pretty funny (yea ok) anyway while Dana White has been successful who’s to say some one else couldnt have done it. Regardless for every good thing Dana has done for mma he still does and says idiotic things that should’nt have a place. Dana White’s whole personality is that of a S h ** talker, he talks about the fighters in a degrading fasion as soon as they lose a fight or if they do not perform. Dana has a lot of mouth and real men dont talk that much without action, dana white has made himself an undeserved star!! i could care less about seein him on tv or on magazines. Only a tool would pay dana white respect over any fighter in any sport!! Bottom line the UFC would be in great shape with or without Dana, people were tired of boxing and the ufc came back at the right time.

Zack is a ignorant retard lol… no mma fighter can hit as card as a boxer lmao… compare power between Shane carwin and any boxer you please…. and dont talk about other people being fat on the computer because you havent ever fought in your life eather. O and btw I do boxing tourneys because im not ready to fight in mma yet… funny how that works . My cardio is perfect for boxing but when you put throwing another person your weight around into the equation its seimple to see what sport takes more talent/athleticism boxing is a 2d show living in a 3d world. as far as what dana sais he is ignorant but the man is a genious hes done so much for the world of mma and evry1 should be thankful for him. Nuff said
