Clay Guida enlists the Greg Jackson camp to prepare for Kenny Florian at UFC 107

Never-say-die lightweight scrapper Clay Guida (25-10) appears to be pulling out all the stops for his recently announced fight against Kenny Florian from the FedEx Forum in Memphis, Tennessee on December 12.
"The Carpenter" will be joining the famed Greg Jackson camp, home to several MMA superstars including Georges St. Pierre, Nate Marquardt and Rashad Evans to help improve his skill set according to Yahoo Sports.
The former deep-sea fisherman has compiled a record of 5-4 since joining the UFC at the beginning of 2007, but that includes four action-packed split decisions and an opponent list with names like Tyson Griffin (split decision loss), Roger Huerta (third round submission loss after being ahead on the scorecards), Marcus Aurelio (split decision win), Mac Danzig (unanimous decision win), Nate Diaz (split decision win), Diego Sanchez (split decision loss) and Din Thomas (controversial unanimous decision loss).
Basically, he’s fought and performed well against a good number of the division’s best competition, including current number one contender Diego Sanchez at TUF 9 Finale, which is certainly a candidate for "Fight of the Year" in 2009.
Like Florian, Guida seems to get better with every fight. And he never backs down from an opponent. Both guys are coming off big-time losses, so there’s going to be a lot on the line when these two face off in mid-December.
Whether or not the move to New Mexico to study under one of the top minds in MMA will help him, remains to be seen.
Certainly can't hurt.

Nice move. This may make an enough tougher fight for kenny.
On a side note, wasn’t guida’s loss to huerta a RNC submission, not a tko?

yeah i thought it was a rnc too..
dont u guys think it’s a little shady of greg jackson to train kenny in his last fight[bj] and now train against kenny in his next fight[guida]?..
either way, i got guida for the win!~
war guida!~

Greg Jackson didn’t train Kenny, GSP and his trainers in Montreal did.

I dont like Kenny or Guida. I think Kenny is the better fighter but stylistically I would say the nod goes to Guida. Kenny has yet to prove to me that he can beat dominant, aggressive wrestlers and until he does I wont pick him to win against one!

What exactly has Guida improved on??? Finishing opponents? Attempting to finish opponents? Passing guard? Posing a threat with his stand-up? That would be no, no, no and no. I guess clasping his hands together behind his opponent’s back when said opponent attempts an omoplata or arm bar counts, as does burying his face into the opponent’s chest during an attempted triangle.

I don’t see any other outcome than Kenny winning by sub in this one. Clay is a solid fighter and I like his intensity but skill wise he is outlassed in every aspect except wrestling and strength. I’m glad the UFC gave him a wrestler to face so that Kenny can show how much he has improved since Sherk. Even if Kenny is on his back…he is one of the most active guys off his back and hopefully the judges see that if this does go to decision.

I am with PW on this one.
I don’t hate Guida but he has to be one of the most overrated fighters in the LW division.

I’m with ya dubs… Clay and pray Guida sucks ass

I don’t think he’ll mesh well with the team. Also he doesnt bring anything to the table except for that hump or die style of fighting.

guys switch camps all the time stink (non loyal guys), and kenny is a sit yo tung (spelling) guy first and foremost!

I disagree. BJ Penn said that to be the best, you need to train with as many different people as possible. You can learn from each person. Also, it gets rid of the excuse that you can’t fight someone because they’re your partner. Lastly, as they say in all sports: It’s a business.

I never said a loyal camp can’t fight, anyone who folows my posts knows, I’d fight my mom if we were both fighters and the money was right

Did kenny train in Greg jackson’s camp, or did he just train with GSP? I was thinking just GSP.

it doesn’t matter, it’s not like his game plan or cardio will be any different. Shoot hug takedown lay repeat!
by kevin on Sep 10, 2009 3:24 PM EDT reply actions
oh wait, make his hair flail all over the place so people will be convinced he’s exciting!

Basically!
Cool write up on your imaginary brother! lol Joking!
by john G on Sep 10, 2009 4:43 PM EDT up reply actions
Kevin, you forgot using his hair as an excuse why the judges gave the win to his opponent, or even worse why he didn’t win every round.
Hopefully Kenny will submit Huggie Bear or KO him before he gets the chance to use his Clay and Gray tactics en route to a decision. I’ve never liked the arrogant boring idiot so I’m always happy when he gets smashed, hopefully Florian can finish the job that Diego started.

I wish you guys would do more threads like this. Like Luis Cane going to ATT, Rich training w/ Anderson, ect… IMO, it definatly has an impact on the possible outcome of a given fight.

Clay is gonna take this one. He is a machine!
by Dirty Sanchez on Sep 10, 2009 3:34 PM EDT reply actions
A Hugging Machine! A Dry Humping Machine. A decision Victory Machine! Yet sadly not for all his cardio and all his hair, that is his whole game!
by Da Monkey on Sep 11, 2009 2:30 AM EDT up reply actions
Will he be a Nipple Twisting Machine at the begininng of this one?
by Da Monkey on Sep 11, 2009 2:31 AM EDT up reply actions
Sorry but this won’t help him.
He’ll still be the crappiest striker in the division and will lose badly.
by Lester The Pimp on Sep 10, 2009 3:37 PM EDT reply actions
no, you forgot gray maynard and sean sherk are in this division along with andy wang!
by kevin on Sep 10, 2009 4:04 PM EDT up reply actions
Gray’s boxing looked good in his last fight when he punished and battered Jim Miller for three straight rounds.

Don’t flame me for asking, who’s the guy between Jackson and GSP? I can’t get a name.
by Freddy on Sep 10, 2009 3:37 PM EDT reply actions
the crow by far… the rest of those guys have actually done something in the past 2 years
by Jared on Sep 10, 2009 7:44 PM EDT up reply actions
If that is David Louisa (SP?) to the right then he has my vote. All I can think by seeing this picture is to the tune of Electric Company….2 of these fighters don’t belong! Two of these fighters are different then the others!
by Da Monkey on Sep 11, 2009 2:36 AM EDT up reply actions
isnt this a bit weird with kenny training occasionally with st.pierre and sharing strength and conditioning coach with half of jacksons team? not to mention clay has short arms and his best bet is to hug his way to victory, luckily he’s not diego and can fight from the bottom.
by stayfitty on Sep 10, 2009 5:17 PM EDT reply actions
did you see the part of the fight where diego elbowed the top of guidas head?
by Egads on Sep 10, 2009 9:45 PM EDT up reply actions
Diego has some of the best BJJ in the UFC. Clay ‘n Pray secured the takedown and locked his hands together behind Diego’s back in a big hug to prevent any arm locks and cuddled his head against Diego’s chest to avoid several triangle attempts. Whichever judge gave that fight to Huggie Bear should have to spend 3 minutes in Diego’s guard and see if he comes away with a little different perspective on what Diego did to Huggie.

I guess it is kinda weird because they’re both kinda training with the Greg Jackson/Gsp camp. I don’t see any problem with them training at the same place because I’m sure both will be going for the win. I am kinda curious as to who Gsp will be pulling for. My bet is Gsp will be pulling for Ken-flo.

cannot take Guida serious until he cuts that stupid hair, it will cost him a fight soon and maybe then he will learn you need to SEE CLEARLY in MMA.. it is just common sense.
by DaveTheGayGuy on Sep 10, 2009 8:00 PM EDT reply actions
for me it could go either way it doesn’t matter because clay & lay or kenflow will always come up short in fights against bj or any other elite fighter.

this is really old news for any smart mma heads out there
