UFC 107: Kenny Florian vs Clay Guida rebooked for Dec. 12

florian-guida-3

UFC lightweight standouts Kenny Florian (11-4) and Clay Guida (25-10) have been scratched from their scheduled bout at UFC 106 in Las Vegas and rebooked for UFC 107 from the FedEx Forum in Memphis, Tennessee on December 12 according to ESPN's MMA Live.

The move was likely done to help bolster the latter card after the departure of the fighter formerly known as Quniton "Rampage" Jackson.

It was learned earlier this week that "B.A. Baracus" will miss his main card fight opposite Rashad Evans to star in the upcoming "A-Team" remake and is expected to be out of action until early 2010.

While his absence should be considered a disappointment, the addition of Florian vs. Guida will certainly help soften the blow.

"Ken Flo" recently took lightweight champion BJ Penn into the championship rounds earlier this month in the main event of UFC 101: "Declaration" before getting submitted for the first time in his career by the jiu-jitsu "master" late in the fourth round.

Star-divide

However, during that fight, Florian continued to demonstrate the reason he is — and has been — one of the most improved 155-pound fighters in the world over the last three years. He hung right there with the champ — who is the top lightweight fighters in the sport today — for much of the contest.

The 33-year old previously fought for the UFC title one other time, falling to Sean Sherk by unanimous decision in a battle for the vacant strap back at UFC 64: "Unstoppable" in late 2006.

Between those two title fight appearances, the Boston-area native put together an impressive six-fight win streak over many of the toughest fighters in the division, including Joe Lauzon, Din Thomas, Roger Huerta and Joe Stevenson.

Florian has already requested he get right back into the thick of things — and they don’t come much tougher than Clay Guida.

"The Carpenter" has only compiled a record of (5-4) since joining the UFC at the beginning of 2007, but that includes four action-packed split decisions and an opponent list with names like Tyson Griffin (split decision loss), Roger Huerta (late round technical knockout after being ahead on the scorecards), Marcus Aurelio (split decision win), Mac Danzig (unanimous decision win), Nate Diaz (split decision win), Diego Sanchez (split decision loss) and Din Thomas (controversial unanimous decision loss).

Basically, he’s fought and performed well against a good number of the division’s best competition, including current number one contender Diego Sanchez at TUF 9 Finale, which is certainly a candidate for "Fight of the Year" in 2009

Like Florian, Guida seems to get better with every fight. And he never backs down from an opponent. Both guys coming off big time losses, so there’s going to be a lot on the line when these two face off in late November.

It, too, has all the makings for another "Fight of the Year" candidate.

UFC 107 will feature a main event between lightweight division champion BJ Penn defending his title against number one division contender Diego Sanchez, as well as a heavyweight showdown between former champion Frank Mir and Cheick Kongo.

This is going to be tough for Kenny. I am convinced Guida would give Brock a tough fight, the guy is an animal.

WAIT WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT BROCK

by CAPS LOCK on Sep 9, 2009 3:01 PM EDT up reply actions

It wasn’t serious steroidface. It was just saying how tough the guy is.

WELL WITH THE WORD convinced LOOKED LIKE IT WAS SERIOUS

I HATE KENNY!!

Tito ortiz:

“I was wrestling with Cris Cyborg and she’s a tough chick, man. For a girl, I expect her not to be so damn tough. We were just wrestling around and I went for a guillotine and she slipped out of it. When she slipped out of it, I traded off to a triangle and I locked the triangle and she went to go pick me up and slam me. She picked me up and slammed me on the ground and I had no pain. Nothing. I ended up choking her, but at the same time, it was just a factor of those little small things that I noticed. I’m good. I’m ready to do this and start working. I felt great. I felt really good.”

hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaahahaha!

No lay and clay here.

by NameNotRequired on Sep 9, 2009 3:40 PM EDT up reply actions

I like Clay and all but Kenny is going to get a sub here one way or another. With the exception of wrestling and sheer strength…Kenny is just better at everything. Cardio will not be an issue in this one. Kenny is just flat out smarter than Clay.

Can we get a mussle for Keith for this one though?

KENNY SHOULD JUST GO TO STRIKE FORCE HE IS NEVER GETTING A 3RD TITTLE SHOT

I cant believe I will be rooting for Florian

by El Mexicutioner, formerly The Mexicutioner on Sep 9, 2009 5:21 PM EDT up reply actions

wait, and I reading this right, tuf75 thinks guida is an animal? ok, I’ll bite, is it him humping everyone he fights or the way his hair is going al over the place that makes him look exciting?

by kevin on Sep 9, 2009 5:39 PM EDT up reply actions

I dont ever root or either fighters and I dont like the fact that Kenny has gotten a title shot while being protected against lw wrestlers..but I am interested in seeing how Florian will do against an aggressive wrestler..I always root for clay to get KTFO, but what intruigs me about this fight is learning exactly how much Ken flow has improved since the sherk fight because I still have my doubts, and that PATHETIC, thales Leites-esque performance against BJ didnt help my suspicions.

Time to really find out what you are made of Kenny because all thats left for you to fight against is wrestlers:
Tyson
Maynard
Guida
Edgar

Time to find out what you are really made of Kenny…but your day of reckoning is when you have to face the nightmare again!

Earlier this Month?

by JRE on Sep 9, 2009 6:11 PM EDT up reply actions

so John, who do u think she trains with? If Randy said he trained with Gina and she arm barred him, would it also be so funny? or better yet Fedor? Good for Tito saying she’s tough instead of being all macho and not saying anything!

by kevin on Sep 9, 2009 6:24 PM EDT up reply actions

Buster: we still dont know if Kenny is capable of beating an aggressive wrestler, so I actually give clay a chance to neurotically dry hump his way to a decision again

FIGHT ANNOUNCEMENT (sort of)*

UFC 107:
Todd Duffee vs. TBA!!!!!

Tba is getting KTFO!

by john G on Sep 9, 2009 6:47 PM EDT up reply actions

tba = kongo!~

with mir vs nog pt/2

by stinky~fingers on Sep 9, 2009 7:03 PM EDT up reply actions

clay is going to beat kenny, wet blanket style!

kenny has some seriously BAD take down defence and in a weight class full of wrestlers it is only a matter of time until it catches up to him

by ufcaddict on Sep 9, 2009 7:20 PM EDT up reply actions

in fact he has never fought a top class wrestler and won!!!

if he were to come up against the likes of tyson griffin, edgar, maynard, clay (like he is doing) and even a rematch with sherk, he would get exposed off all of them

by ufcaddict on Sep 9, 2009 7:23 PM EDT up reply actions

what was so funny with that Tito/Cyborg story? he called her tough, she slammed him on his back and he didn’t feel any pain.. I mean what’s weird about you is that you are a Rampage fan and not a Tito fan at the same time, when they’re so alike..

by RoBerto on Sep 9, 2009 9:51 PM EDT up reply actions

don’t even get me going roberto. John tells me I’m an hour late on AS not getting surgery and in the next thread says GSP is in ADCC when he marquart and maia have been out for weeks. he says I’m patting myelf on the back when I’m letting people who may not go to other sites in on news I found. Yet he’d be like “I told you Fedors cock was big, my ass is so sore, my mouth has stretch marks and all I got was his panties as a souvenir!”

by kevin on Sep 9, 2009 9:55 PM EDT up reply actions

You lot are f***** nuts lol….Some funny comments!

I appreciate the efforts Kevin as I am one of those who doesn’t get the time to check other sites so this is my one and only news reel!

I think we all know what will happen here, They stand and trade for about 20 secs until Guida can’t handle it then takes Kenny down…It’s just a matter of wether or not Kenny will get the Submission or just get mauled on the floor!

I personally want Kenny in this one, Clay does my nut in!

by ToeLock on Sep 10, 2009 5:17 AM EDT up reply actions

p.s….Talking of Edgar, where is that guy? When is he fighting again?…Haven’t seen jack about him on here for ages? My memory is terrible but i think i remember something about him having a broken hand?

Anyone know anything?

by ToeLock on Sep 10, 2009 5:24 AM EDT up reply actions

Guida’s gonna take this 1 it has LnP written all over it.

by frosnt on Sep 9, 2009 3:02 PM EDT reply actions

THIS SHOULD BE A GREAT FIGHT! Guida has never looked bad.

by Vee on Sep 9, 2009 3:05 PM EDT reply actions

I got Guida in this one.

by BeerMan on Sep 9, 2009 3:06 PM EDT reply actions

This is the fight to see who gets to fight Sanchez after BJ demolishes him. I can see Guida winning this and either getting a rematch with Sanchez or getting his title shot.

by sigpesal on Sep 9, 2009 3:11 PM EDT reply actions

I think the carpenter wins, I dont think Kenny has any KO power and in the clinch Clay will be all over him…with that being said I dont expect a very exciting fight

by jet99 on Sep 9, 2009 3:20 PM EDT reply actions

You mean, not exciting like his last fight with sanchez? cmon…guida always puts on a great and entertaining fight. Even the slight borefest against danzig, it was still fun to watch.

by erick on Sep 9, 2009 4:15 PM EDT up reply actions

I never realized Rampage spelled his first name Quniton. Learn something new everyday on this site. :)

by BigFatManiac on Sep 9, 2009 3:28 PM EDT reply actions

I don’t like kenny one bit but he’s pretty tough.
Kenny can catch guida with a knee or kick and rock him as huerta did.
Still i Hope guida surprisingly brings an unexpected fotn like always

by phenomenal angel on Sep 9, 2009 3:50 PM EDT reply actions

you mean kind of like the kick that sanchez gave him to the dome when he just stood right back up and kept fighting? he is definitely an animal. he’s extremely good at slipping out of and staying away from subs. I would like to see guida take this in a decision…well i would like to see him win with a knockout but a decision is probably going be the case.

by erick on Sep 9, 2009 4:14 PM EDT up reply actions

I mean rock him and catch him in submission, besides bj I think kenny has 2nd best jits in lw hands down

by phenomenal angel on Sep 9, 2009 8:26 PM EDT up reply actions

What about Nate Diaz? That guy has some seriously slick Jits man!

by ToeLock on Sep 10, 2009 5:20 AM EDT up reply actions

CLAY MUST HAVE BEEN PRAYING TO THE DEVIL THAT HE DIDNT HAVE 2 FIGHT KENNY FLORIAN!!!

by d*locc on Sep 9, 2009 3:53 PM EDT reply actions

This just can’t be said enough:

Fuck Rampage.

by Lester The Pimp on Sep 9, 2009 4:11 PM EDT reply actions

Best post you have ever written.

by BNF on Sep 9, 2009 4:20 PM EDT up reply actions

Why is it that mania always writes Kenny took BJ into the Championship rounds… Come on mania. You know you wanted Kenny to win but BJ just whooped on Kenny and so will Guida! Mania Kenny never was in that fight. He either closed that gap or ran the whole fight so he wouldn’t get hit in the face. He didn’t take BJ into those rounds but rather BJ let Kenny into those rounds cause BJ wanted to fight standing. Guida will out work Kenny and break him and his will. Mania predicted Kenny to win his last fight and i will predict mania will do the same in this fight. Guida wins by unanimous decision!!!

by Gotta Luv haters on Sep 9, 2009 4:24 PM EDT reply actions

Gone are the days of crappy cards. well except for cards in the UK jajaja!!!

Seriously though, all these cards are great 107 looks crazy!!!

by manalito on Sep 9, 2009 4:32 PM EDT reply actions

Lol @ Lay and Clay

by PimpDaddy on Sep 9, 2009 5:05 PM EDT reply actions

Thanks Rampage – going to Vegas Nov 21

Was looking forward to seeing this fight live. Fckng Bllsht but what are you going to do. Guess I’ll be renting 107 – didn’t care about Rampage Rashad anyway. Rampage no longer cares about fighting

by DF on Sep 9, 2009 5:31 PM EDT reply actions

I know I may be in the minority, but this fight does nothing for me and it does not in the least add to the appeal of the card for 107.

by Five Finger Death Punch on Sep 9, 2009 6:02 PM EDT reply actions

I think we should expect a great fight. They are both coming off possibly the most devastating losses of their lives (career wise) and each should be looking to make a statement in this fight. Plus Clay will not be able to hold Kenny the whole time therefore it should be exciting.

by BNF on Sep 9, 2009 6:19 PM EDT up reply actions

Kflo was way more pissed about losing his last fight than Clay was and come in this fight more focused and with a bigger chip on his shoulder I call a first round submission and dominate performance for Kflo.

by Puck Head on Sep 9, 2009 7:37 PM EDT up reply actions

Didn’t Guida lose to Huerta by submission? Guida has never lost by TKO or KO.

by MMACrossfire on Sep 9, 2009 6:26 PM EDT reply actions

Hard to see Kenflo not winning this one. I see Kenny winning with a submission- probably rnc and being more technical in the standup.

by Kdog on Sep 9, 2009 6:37 PM EDT reply actions

u all know who i got!~

by stinky~fingers on Sep 9, 2009 6:44 PM EDT reply actions

I believe Kenflo will Machida-cise Guida. Than bore a hole in him from his Rambo knife elbows. All while Clay dryhumps, derfs, and grinds his way to a possible decision. I predict one of the bloodiest porn-free fights ever.

by Sky on Sep 9, 2009 7:30 PM EDT reply actions

Guida takes this. Florian is overrated and his takedown defense aside from the times he grabs the cage is bad.

Guida might earn a decision win by simply getting takedowns and holding him there like he did against Josh Thomson but he’ll win a decision.

by jumponthis on Sep 9, 2009 7:44 PM EDT reply actions

Im hoping for a double ko…I hate both of these fockers

by SluggerCitySoldier on Sep 9, 2009 9:32 PM EDT reply actions

The guy at the top must be refering to top 155#er Brock Larson
:)

by Marty on Sep 9, 2009 9:37 PM EDT reply actions

This will be a great fight! I hope Guida can bounce back with a win!
