UFC Quick Quote: Gray Maynard looking to control Roger Huerta on Sept. 16

"Huerta's a guy who is all heart so I think he'll be prepared. Before Clay (Guida), I mean, he had some tough guys, but I don't know if anybody had the time or the kind of skill to plan until of course Clay, but his plan is to do the same thing as Huerta, just go in there, it's all heart. Kenny Florian had a plan and so he did good, so I guess we'll see. I just plan on trying to control it in every area. You've got guys like GSP, he's got it in all areas and we're all trying to strive to get there. That's the goal, to be good in every area and control it. Some guys try to be good, I want to be great in all areas."
-- Undefeated UFC lightweight Gray Maynard looks to bully his record up to 8-0 when he collides with former UFC 155-pound sensation Roger Huerta at UFC Fight Night 19 from the Cox Convention Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on September 16. "El Matador" is returning to the Octagon to satisfy the remaining fight on his current deal after declining a five-fight contract extension to pursue a career in acting and modeling. He may go out on a high note if he shows some of the ability that took him to an impressive 20-2-1. Or the former Ultimate Fighter 5 (TUF) contestant, who tells MMAWeekly that he's "in control," could deport him to the land of also-rans with his suffocating wrestling. Who ya got?

Grey better get a title shot if he wins this fight, I still cant see him beating BJ but he’s right up in the mix.

grey will probably control huerta
anyone know if hurta has signed a new contract or is he leaving after this fight

Unless some miracle has happened in his takedown defense I don’t see Huerta winning this. If there is a miracle Gray will clinch him to death. It will be 15 minutes of smothering either on the feet or the ground.

he is probably leaving after this fight. everyone thinks he is being a pretty boy because he wants to go into acting. he did not sign the new contract offered him because it stated that the ufc would have 100% rights to his name. are you kidding me? 100% rights to his name? that means if he writes a book on his life he gets none of the proceeds. anyone with a lick of business sense would not sign a contract like that. the ufc makes millions upon millions, how many millions is enough? a fighter should be the one who profits off of his name because he has earned it not the ufc. i applaud roger for not signing the contract, he has taken alot of heat for it but is currently under contract so he cannot say anything. i would love to see him go out on top with a victory.

Diversity? i believe it’s an old wooden ship

He will prob have one more fight – lots of people (myself NOT included) think he is boring so he needs to dominate Roger in the stand up.

yeah he should be next with a win over huerta, it would be nice to see roger leave with a win but thats why the ufc gave him grey to make sure that doesn’t happen.

your right he looks improved everytime he steps in the ring if he put’s on a dominate performance here he should be in the contender mix.

Yeah I agree with Bobby, Maynard looked good on his feet last time out. I think Sanchez should consider himself a touch lucky to fast-track to a shot.

THE most boring fighter followed closely by Griffin and Guida.
And no, standing and throwing punches that couldnt even knock out an ant doesnt make him any less boring.

Are you kidding me? Both Griffen and Guida have been in some of the best L/W fights of all time. You are crazy.

gray’s one of my favorite fighters. for anyone who thinks he’s just a boring wrestler, i gota disagree with you. i think sometimes he reverts back to wrestling b/c he’s afraid to lose but can you blame him? in the ufc one loss pushes you so far down the ladder. Hopefully gray is allot better at ground and poind. id love to see him against bj for the title. i think it would be the first time a tuf coach ended up fighting the guy he had on the show. pretty interesting

Thats the thing about Frankie Edgar, even although he lost to Grey he’s still great to watch. He looked awesome against Sherk and will probably be second in line for the winner of BJ/Sanchez.

Can’t wait for this, if roger somehow finishes it leaves a hole in lw division, I think putting edgar in top.
I think ufc must have told grey, take roger down and hold him boring fashion, do wat u can and a bonus in it for u.
Besides that I’m hoping roger can ko grey

Sorry Pimp but Tyson is far from boring. Guida is another story.
Huerta will get taken down easily on this one

Plus he’ll have been out for almost a year. And hollywood is on his mind. If Maynard doesn’t finish him, i’ll be pissed. I was actually very happy to see Gray’s boxing progress in the miller fight.

“Control it” AKA lay-in-Pray
Maynard is probably going to win but I bet this fight is going to be a sleep unless Matador has took the time to train takedown defense

I try never to talk trash about a fighter, but this guy is so boring and I hate watching them fight.
