The Ultimate Fighter (TUF 10) Finale: Jon Jones vs Matt Hamill possible for Dec. 5

There's a potential "Battle of the Buffalo area" brewing for The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 10 Finale in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Dec. 5, according to MMAMadness.com.
Iowa Central Community College national wrestling champion and undefeated blue chip MMA prospect, Jon Jones, is currently in talks to meet former TUF 3 alum and three–time Division III national wrestling champion from Rochester Institute of Technology, Matt Hamill.
Both fighters share similar strengths and ties to the upstate New York region. More on this 205-pound match up in a bit.
TUF 10 is scheduled to debut on Spike TV on Sept. 16, 2009, at 10 p.m. ET. Former Elite XC posterboy Kimbo Slice, as well as a former IFL champion Roy Nelson, several NFL players and others, will duke it out for a "six figure" UFC contract. It will be the first TUF season to feature heavyweights since the second season in late 2005.
Stay tuned.

Jones all the way on this one! on the good side, hamill will be able to hear, it will be a ringing in his head when he wakes up!
by RickyBobby on Sep 8, 2009 5:57 PM EDT up reply actions
Hamill will get his kicked in all three rounds. Bones striking is too much for him. Look at the way Franklin destroyed Hamill. He can’t deal with a superior striker.

Bones’ strategy will be similar to the way he fought O’brien….. defend the takedowns and use his reach and speed to pick him apart. I got Bones by UD or TKO. Hamill may shoot but this is the wrong matchup to finally decide to take his opponent down.

hammill is going to win. he focuses more than hearing does. hes going to win. believe me. hes good to go. he cant wait to fight so im with him. i talked to him in person and said win this one cuz u have to. ha! my heart goes to hammill. go win it man!!

Great fight choice will Jones be able to keep hamill at a distance? I think Jones has fought the better fighters but Hamill looks more improved each he fights it should be a close one but I think Jones will be to elusive for hamill and hamill will eventually get frustrated and start throwing wild strikes leaving himself exposed to and being KO.
by Puck Head on Sep 8, 2009 6:28 PM EDT up reply actions
i think this will be a boring fight despite jon’s wild style,i think hamill makes it boring
i say jones UD
by ufcaddict on Sep 8, 2009 6:30 PM EDT up reply actions
i don’t think jones has the knockout power to finish hamill
by ufcaddict on Sep 8, 2009 6:31 PM EDT up reply actions
he doesnt need knockout power…just non stop kicks to the body….rich franklin showed us how to beat matt hamill…
by rbs141 on Sep 8, 2009 6:37 PM EDT up reply actions
easyier said then done…….and matt hamill is not a boring fighter….he barely ever go’s for takedowns and just liks turning it into a standup fight…..and if jon jones isnt winning on the feet I dont see him being able to put hamil on his back….nobody has ever put hamill on his back and i dont think its gunna start in this fight
by JG on Sep 8, 2009 8:27 PM EDT up reply actions
Matt Hamill has the worst standup in the UFC. I was booing the whole time during his fight with Reese Andy. That said i think it’s gonna be scary what Greg Jackson and Firas are gonna bring out of Jones. All the haters will be converted.
by NameNotRequired on Sep 8, 2009 11:22 PM EDT up reply actions
yeah, Hammil is the worst stand up fighter in the UFC. I laugh every time he throws that jab and leads with his chin out. Jones is going to be way too quick!

yes! a good card has started! i hope that this is the first fight of the night

Great fight! Tought test for Jones. I think he takes this in a close decision. Hamill is a hard dude to finish.
by HoT SaUCe on Sep 8, 2009 5:33 PM EDT reply actions
hamill gonna take a beating in this one.. just does not have the standup near what jones has
by ralph on Sep 8, 2009 5:37 PM EDT reply actions
Why? Jon Jones is one of the brightest talents the UFC has, he always comes across great in interviews and is respectfull and humble after his fights! I think he posseses all the tools to become UFC champ one day. Even though i like Hamill ill be rooting for Jones in this one.

I couldn’t agree with you more. I watch his highlight over and over again. He is a naturally amazing creative and technical striker… I can’t wait to see him at the top.

Good test for Jones. Hamill is not elite, but he is tough. I agree with irishlilpete

Am I the only one who’s not sold on all the Jones hype? Just because he does some flashy moves doesn’t mean he’s a great fighter. BTW, I don’t think Hamill is that great either.
by frosnt on Sep 8, 2009 5:57 PM EDT reply actions
well i guess the “flashy” moves is all your looking at then because hes dominated every person hes fought
by JG on Sep 8, 2009 6:07 PM EDT up reply actions
Frosnt: I agree to a certain extent. It’s hard to tell just how good he is until he is tested by a top 10 fighter. However, I still can’t get over the way he threw Bonnar around like a rag doll. His throws are amazing.
by Adam T. on Sep 8, 2009 6:27 PM EDT up reply actions
He has skills there is no doubt about that and Hamill has looked better every fight should be a a great fight.
by Puck Head on Sep 8, 2009 6:43 PM EDT up reply actions
His throws were impressive but not practical really, Bonnar was able to get back up mostly before Jones could get on him. A traditional freestyle takedown is far more effective than throws. Also those spinning back elbows are a joke—unless spinning back elbows become a gameplan I don’t consider them a very practical weapon either.
by frosnt on Sep 8, 2009 7:21 PM EDT up reply actions
Basically, we just need to see more of Jones, and this fight gives us that opportunity. Jones is an exciting prospect and Hamill always comes ready to fight. I’m a Hamill fan, but I give the edge to Jones. His quickness and diversity of striking will be enough to win a close decision. I like this fight, as the winner will likely see someone in the top ten as their next opponent.
by CL on Sep 8, 2009 7:51 PM EDT up reply actions
frosnt ask Jake O`brien and Bonnar if the spinning elbows is a practial weapon. Bonnar got dropped and a big cut and O`brien got choked after getting hit by one.
by tbecks on Sep 8, 2009 8:28 PM EDT up reply actions
Try landing one of those on someone who doesn’t suck. I don’t know what kind of clown gets hit with a spinning back elbow.
by frosnt on Sep 8, 2009 10:26 PM EDT up reply actions
this is not a good matchup, hamil just has wrestling and no stamina
by iamdanawhite on Sep 8, 2009 6:20 PM EDT reply actions
Hamill will lay and prey himself to a decision.
by jayshogun on Sep 8, 2009 7:08 PM EDT up reply actions
Should be a tough test for Jones. Hamill has fought a little tougher competition than Jones has.
I’ll be pulling for Hamill. Cincinnati kid, and hard to cheer against him.
by Miketsi on Sep 8, 2009 6:34 PM EDT reply actions
I like Hamill, but Jones is going to destroy him. Jones by KO near the end of R2 when Hammil gasses and starts leaving his hands way down.
by Shane on Sep 8, 2009 7:04 PM EDT reply actions
Jones said he wouldn’t try to pull off those crazy moves anymore after his last fight. He’s going to need a solid gameplan for Hamill.
by Machina on Sep 8, 2009 7:23 PM EDT reply actions
HAMIL BY GROUND & POUND !! HES BEEN LOOKING GOOD STOPPING PEOPLE BESIDES FRANKLIN! I HOPE ITS A GUD FIGHT!
by d*locc on Sep 8, 2009 7:26 PM EDT reply actions
Hamill by KO after the bell! lol. Some day that’s gonna happen with him.
by frosnt on Sep 8, 2009 7:47 PM EDT up reply actions
I am still hesitant to get on the Jon Jones bandwagon but I have to say so far he is looking like the future of MMA to me. The guy tossed Bonnar around like a ragdoll. After seeing more performances like that & the Jake O’Brien fight, I think this is in the bag. This cat’s skills & being in Greg Jackson’d team, I am sure we will continue to be impressed. I just wish it wasn’t against the Hammer. I like the dude but I don’t see him winning this. War Jones…

did anyone notice Jon Jones is making the “dat ass” face in this picture? LOL
by Bill Maher on Sep 8, 2009 8:20 PM EDT reply actions
winner of this one vs Vera. Hamil was suppose to fight Vera the last UFC and if he wins should fight Vera next. If Jones wins a fight against Vera would be an interesting match up. Vera is like a 205lbs Mike Swick.
