For me, this fight is as epic as Randy/Nog. Imo this is a fight between two of the top 3 lhw in the world!
I adore both Shogun and Machida. I am happy that all of you who talked trash about Machida are finally on his bandwagon, but yuou guys are kidding yourselves if you think that Shogun isnt capable of walking away from this fight with the title!!
Last time Shogun had so much riding on a fight, he went on to put on one of the greatest performances that I have ever seen, beating Rampage, lil NOg, Overeem, and Arona all in the same tournament!!!!!!!!
I am honestly expecting the Shogun of old to show up for this fight, and we all know what lyoto is capable of…so I am expecting a match up for the ages!
by john G on Sep 7, 2009 1:14 PM EDT up reply actions
A prime Shogun would be Lyoto’s toughest test to date but there are still big questions about his wrestling and cardio and the Chuck win did not answer either of them. Machida is looking unbeatable right now and I don’t see how Shogun can get the fight to the ground, whilst standing Lyoto is too technical and precise a striker even for Shogun. I’m expecting a great fight but I’ll be amazed if Lyoto loses this one.
by David W-S on Sep 7, 2009 1:57 PM EDT up reply actions
no one thought he had a chance against chuck either and we all saw what happened with that one
by brendan on Sep 7, 2009 2:03 PM EDT up reply actions
Chuck had already lost 3 of his last 4 fights, while Machida is unbeaten and is coming off consecutive brutal KO wins over undefeated fighters. I know Shogun was doubted last time but he is a much bigger underdog in this fight.
by David W-S on Sep 7, 2009 2:37 PM EDT up reply actions
I have a feeling about Shogun in this one. Not sure why as logic says a MAchida win but there ya go!
by Neil on Sep 7, 2009 2:47 PM EDT up reply actions
well, I knew he was going to beat Chuck. that fight was mostly about which Shogun would show up, cause I already knew he was better than Chuck.
Shogun is going to lay him out in the middle of the octagon with a knee!
by RoBerto on Sep 7, 2009 3:03 PM EDT up reply actions
john Im counting on Shogun to walk away with the title
by SluggerCitySoldier on Sep 7, 2009 5:38 PM EDT up reply actions
Shogun is sooooooo overrated it isn’t even funny. Machida will eat this guy up – fak even Forrest Gump beat him. He barely walked away with a win aginst Mark Coleman….given his cardio ability his best match would be against a cardio machine like Travis Lutter if he fought at 205.

I know I know I was half joking lol
Machida by KO in the second!!
by Lestat on Sep 7, 2009 1:10 PM EDT up reply actions
is that the 1st second haha? or second round lol
by boyer on Sep 7, 2009 2:09 PM EDT up reply actions
Ha Ha yea maybe the first second of the first round!
by Lestat on Sep 7, 2009 4:01 PM EDT up reply actions
his english has come a long way, open your ears lestat! wouldnt be surprised is shogun gets the sub!
by TRUTH on Sep 7, 2009 1:03 PM EDT up reply actions
I would be shocked if that happens TRUTH, and so will the rest of the milky way galaxy
by Lestat on Sep 7, 2009 1:13 PM EDT up reply actions
why would you be shocked? shogun has the best jits in the entire division. As much as we immortalize fighters after big wins, and think they are unstoppable….these are just men, and in this sport, upset happen easier then in any other sport. On paper, Machida is unstoppable and should destroy shogun, but I am expecting a much closer fight then what it looks like on paper!
If the version of Shogun who fought lil Nog shows up to fight the version of machida that beat Rashad….then we could possibly see one of the best fights in the history of the sport!

word~ great points, john!~
im taking shogun for the win..
3rd round tko!~… yeah… tko
by stinky~fingers on Sep 7, 2009 3:31 PM EDT up reply actions
Good points John , but I’ve been immortalizing Machida ever since I saw him fight Nakamura, and from then on he became my favorite fighter, mostly because of his spiritual side and how technical he was. I always knew he would be the champion, so many times it was frustrating hearing people complain about him being boring etc. Now finally most of the MMA world understand how he fights and from here on out it’s going to be even more amazing for all the Machida fans watching him defend the belt time after time. But like you said if the old Shogun shows up It might be a close fight after all, and I can’t fucking wait!!!!!

WAR SHOGUN!!
only time i had to root against him was the liddell fight, because i wanted to see liddell win one last big fight. but now that shogun destroyed him i can never root against him again. i got shogun doing the unthinkable and outstriking machida
SHOGUN BY SECOND ROUND TKO
by Jared on Sep 7, 2009 1:22 PM EDT up reply actions
well maybe not outstriking but i see him arona’ing machida. hell get the fight to the ground and there he’ll f*ck up machida

Things we learned from this interview:
Shogun is doing nothing but trainy, eaty, and sleepy.
He’s very helaxed.
He realizes that Lyoto is very fast (like vroom vroom fast) and that he has fast heflexes.
by Lester The Pimp on Sep 7, 2009 1:04 PM EDT reply actions
Well, his english is a hell of a lot better than my portugeuse.
by MongoMan on Sep 7, 2009 1:23 PM EDT reply actions
Do you really need to have your hand held to understand my point?
by MongoMan on Sep 7, 2009 1:48 PM EDT up reply actions
Very funny, bash him for trying to learn a new language and speaking with a Portugese accent. Seriously Lester all you ever seem to do is bash fighters and make piss poor jokes about them. What next, are you going to laugh at Shogun when he speaks in Portugese?
by David W-S on Sep 7, 2009 1:55 PM EDT up reply actions
Im sure Shogun doesnt need you to “protect” him from a little joke, loosen up would you and take that sand outta your vágina.
by Lester The Pimp on Sep 7, 2009 2:33 PM EDT up reply actions
Lester is a true POS. He never has anything positive to say about anything.
by Jono on Sep 7, 2009 2:35 PM EDT up reply actions
It wasn’t even a funny joke just another cheap shot at a foreign fighter. Seems to be the theme of the day for posts on this site.
by David W-S on Sep 7, 2009 2:36 PM EDT up reply actions
no, lester is a racist that’s what the deal is about.. He lives on a farm somewhere in the US, he is matt hughes & brock lesnar’s biggest fan!

I’m not a real big fan of eighter of these guys, i see this fight like i see most of lyoto’s fights, a dance contest. If shogun trys to make the fight exciting early he will get dropped, if it goes into the 4th or 5th i can see shogun pulling something out, with his striking or on the ground. If this fight goes down like i think it will, then lyoto wins the UD.
by Blazy J on Sep 7, 2009 1:35 PM EDT reply actions
i said it before and i will say it again shoguns wins, i am not a fan of either, i believe shogun will win

but occifer, how can i walk that line when it is moving!?!?

I doubt Lyoto will even get touched during this fight. Anyone want to put a side wager on Shogun, let me know. I’ll cover anything. I’ve never been so sure of a fight’s outcome ever. I like Shogun, I think his English is just fine, but Lyoto is way too talented. We’re talking speed and skill. Shogun doesn’t have a chance.
by capt doug on Sep 7, 2009 2:45 PM EDT reply actions
Shogun’s going to get beat up something awful. I’m very excited. Machida could take Shogun’s lunch money and slap his momma around if he wanted to, Shogun can’t do jack about it!
by Speedy on Sep 7, 2009 2:58 PM EDT reply actions
I love all of you guys picking on his english – you may want to learn how to spell first – f**kheads! Shogun by TKO in the second for me.
by DownUnder on Sep 7, 2009 3:08 PM EDT reply actions
Good to see Shogun helaxed and ready to fight! ROFL.
Definitely rooting for Shogun, even though i like Lyoto. Hopefully he pulls it off and then he can go and helax some more.
by Xad on Sep 7, 2009 3:14 PM EDT reply actions
seriously cannot wait for this fight. Both fighters are awsome and its going to be hard to shout against either, but i have to take shogun. This should be a highly competitive fight that either fighter could take. I truley think that an in shape focused shogun has all the tools to beat anyone; However machida could step up and demolish another ‘Challenge’, who knows? all i can say is i cant wait for this fucking fight!
by Howard Marks on Sep 7, 2009 3:18 PM EDT reply actions
No one’s mentioned yet that Shogun may well have been on steriods in Pride and he might not be the same fighter in the U.S.
by frosnt on Sep 7, 2009 4:36 PM EDT reply actions
And even if he fought Machida on steriods he’d still lose =P.
by frosnt on Sep 7, 2009 4:36 PM EDT up reply actions
These guys are both epic, but I just can’t see past Machida for the win.
